Re: Talking Point: Recent Sales Results Show That amiibo Needs Games For Success, Not Just Collectibility

Mario Party Star Rush? Yeah it looks rushed alright! Looks like yet another substandard game, like most of Nintendo's games lately. Rushed to the market to pad out the poor selection and to peddle the sinking Amiibo line. It didn't work with Mario Party 10, which flopped, it didn't work with Animal Crossing Amiibo Festival, which flopped even harder, and it won't work here.

@wazlon Yeah, the SNES games are different than New Adventure Island. Super Adventure Island is really simple and short (but has great music), while Super Adventure Island II is more like a Wonder Boy/Monster World game.

New Adventure Island and Super Adventure Island share the basic formula of the series, but still have different gameplay. The Turbografx game is one of the best if not the best traditional Adventure Island title.

@Kirk It sounds like you may have played Just Dance 1 on Wii. That was sort of a "prototype" for the series, and the games improved by leaps and bounds by every iteration, year by year. Just Dance 2015 is a very different game from Just Dance 1.

As someone who's been gaming for well over 20 years, I'll place the Just Dance series among the best videogames and best videogame series ever made. Just not based on Just Dance 1, but the later and better games.

Also, a lot of those Just Dance releases you linked to are compilations or regional releases, like the Just Dance Wii series for Japan. In those, Ubisoft together with Nintendo took special care to localize the series for Japan.

@Matclip Facts are even tougher to defeat, and you aren't even trying. It's one thing to hope for Nintendo's success, but to fabricate figures to claim Wii U did better than it actually did is just completely delusional.

Re: Nintendo Outlines Key Goals to Ensure NX Success

@Matclip I've looked it all up, that's why I'm telling you that you're totally wrong, you need to go make the search, because either you haven't understood the Nintendo quarterly reports and other info, or you're just making it up.

I'm telling you: go read the reports. I'm not putting any more time into proving something to you which you should already know if you have actually read them.

Re: Nintendo Outlines Key Goals to Ensure NX Success

Mahe

@Matclip No, you're mixing overall Nintendo profits to the Wii U. Wii U has NOT been profitable. Wii and DS backlog have brought in a constant revenue stream. Why do you think Nintendo is still re-releasing Wii titles as Nintendo Selects? Also, don't forget that new Wii titles like Just Dance have been outselling their Wii U counterparts, even though Wii total releases have obviously slowed down to a crawl.

At the same time, the "3DS family" has been profitable, thanks to 2DS for a large part. While those other platforms, accessories and licenses have been bringing in profits, Wii U game development, shelf space and upkeep has been eating away at those profits brought in by Wii, accessories, licenses and the DS lines etc.

Without Wii U, the rest of Nintendo's business would have been more profitable, because Wii U wouldn't have been eating the profits of Wii, 2DS, 3DS etc.

Re: Nintendo Outlines Key Goals to Ensure NX Success

Mahe

@Matclip Wii U didn't produce profits. Quite the opposite, it's also been eating the measly profits that Wii back library and 2DS/3DS have made.

Remember, Wii games have been selling millions even after the Wii U launch, and 2DS/3DS have also been selling better than Wii U.

@JaxonH That's awfully fatalistic of you. Even if Zeldabreath doesn't turn up hot in the end, that doesn't mean Nintendo can't make a good game ever again. You just need to look at the Wii/DS era to see tons of games that drew people in.

And even Wii U had some good games like Mario Kart 8, they just weren't enough to combat the Gamepad monstrosity.

Re: Nintendo Outlines Key Goals to Ensure NX Success

"So, for an avid gamer a game like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is one of those that you can't not play."

Oh, that's easy. Zeldabreath looks boring from what we've seen so far. I won't be getting an NX for it and I won't get it on Wii U. Next?
