Running a country is pretty serious business, and everything from the words spoken and imagery used by politicians is crucial to sharing the correct message. Apparently, for Brazil's president Jair Bolsonaro, the perfect way to express an important message is putting it alongside a musical ditty from 2006's Sonic the Hedgehog. Because of course it is.
The track was used in this video below, shared by the president on Twitter. The tweet itself is talking about investment in Brazil, so who wouldn't opt for some original Sonic music as an accompaniment?
If you're vaguely remembering the music and wondering where exactly it's from, it plays during the second phase of the final boss battle. Of course, the 2006 Sonic the Hedgehog game never made it to a Nintendo system unfortunately (or fortunately, going by reviews of the game at the time) so we'll let you off if this is entirely new to you.
Would Donald Trump's ramblings be easier to stomach if put alongside the Tetris theme? Should any talk of Brexit only be allowed if Zelda's Song of Storms is playing? The possibilities are endless.

I'm curious if he asked SEGA for approval...
Sonic secretly in charge of Brasil's government?
"[via kotaku.com]"
@Gibb the level of mismanagement we've been having since forever can only point to this being kinda true...
Donald Trump's speech should have Captain Toad's music.
Brexit should have the music from that movie 'Independence day'.
Sega was and still is a pretty big deal in Brazil, I can see why even a president would be Sega-savvy, but this is a game for a system beyond Master System and Mega Drive, the big stars in that country, still today, due to a special agreement with Tectoy, the company that manufactures and distributes Sega products there, and the fact that importing newer consoles was not permitted first and then so expensive they ended up sticking to 8-16 bit systems.
Master System, which still sells dozens of thousands of units every year there, with its design variations, is considered the longest-lived console ever because of this. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Master_System#Continued_success_in_Brazil
I guess he likes it because 2D Sonic is always running toward the far-right of the screen.
Sonic 06...
A quality game befitting of a quality president...
Real talk, the Solaris boss fight is one of the best the Sonic series has ever seen.
Fitting, considering he's the Sonic '06 of presidents
Can't believe i missed that lol
And the song actually fits nicely with the video.
Regardless which side one supports in politics, it's totally wrong for the president of Brazil or anyone else for that matter to use video game material for political usage/profit.
I'm just wondering here... instead of making such frivolous videos on twitter, why don't invest time on solving real problems?
How could anyone on the top public post of the country use a copyrighted material without autorization? What mensage he is passing foward?
Bolsonaro confirmed for Smash !
Make Brazil great again.
From the title I was really hoping it was going to be this music: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4sE7J4cilZM
TecToy have anything to do with this? XD
@ddowler85 Please mind your language.
The worst part is using music from a game that bad. That means we have to remember that it ever existed an no one wants to remember Sonic '06
Everybody knows the top floor of the Trump Tower Dungeon plays Ghirahim's Theme. Also in every summit meeting
Edit: or "Those Chosen by the Planet" (FF7) or "Rukifelth's Theme" (Bomberman 64 2nd Attack)
He should have used Sonic Mania instead.
Brazilians love SEGA
See, it's easier to resort to attacks when y'all don't know how to have a proper discussion lol typical.
@Frank90 agreed!
I won't comment on the subject matter.
As a brazilian, though, I'd like to make a formal request for you, NintendoLife, to avoid talking about Bolsonaro in your news, particularly when your video is actually his propaganda. Perhaps for a lot of users it will just be random words in a foreign language with Sonic music in the background. For brazilians... Well, I'll hold my thoughts to avoid discussions. He is a sensitive topic to say the least, and increased the polarization in Brazil. I know the intent was an entertaining video, but it happens to be offensive for many brazilians (while also being exciting for many others). It also has nothing to do with gaming news. Please, NintendoLife, avoid it if you can.
Thanks!
NintendoLife, even from a purely pragmatic sense, posting this without closing the comments section was a stupid idea. Whether this was a wise article at all is also a question. Not impressed.
Yeah I think Nintendo Life should just remove this article or close the comments.
I'm ashamed enough to have it as our chief of state and I don't want to deal with it in my gaming news.
I've been a fan of NL since forever, I don't wanna stop coming here.
@grupvilla Sorry, but I won`t get into this with someone who isnt even Brazilian... It`s very easy to support or criticize people from another country. Remember, everything you know is conveyed by corporations, which our biggest around here is GLOBO. They show you what they want if they want it. I`ve read similar things about TV companies from the States, but Since I dont live there, It`s really hard to filter what`s real and what`s not.
Any further political discussion will be deleted. So please let’s drop the subject. Thanks.
This is literally the greatest comments thread of all time. What an absolute hellfire.
Edit: nice.
"Would Donald Trump's ramblings be easier to stomach if put alongside the Tetris theme? Should any talk of Brexit only be allowed if Zelda's Song of Storms is playing?"
Since you deleted my other comment, again I'll ask: why would you even add that to the story? It's legitimately unprofessional.
I mean, I'm staunchly anti-censorship, so I'm not going to advocate that this story or comments section be removed (although, I wouldn't mind if it was), I will say this: don't post divisive crap like this in the future. It's extremely unprofessional. Are you guys really that desperate for clicks? This kind of BS would never have flown under Thomas Whitehead. The quality of this site has been on a steady decline without him, and in my opinion, articles like this one prove it.
Seriously, NL - the vast majority of folks (if not literally all of us) don't come to this page looking for political opinions and flamebait from the staff (aren't there enough sites for that already?) - we're here for information about Nintendo games.
Get it together before you lose your readers.
Wow. My first comment got removed/censored... because I gave you feedback on how it's in poor form to post flamebait articles that make assumptions about your readers?
Then, ironically, in my follow-up, I actually defend your right to keep the article and to not censor posts like some have asked.
Insanity. I mean seriously, if you wanna post ill-advised crap like this, you should at least have the integrity to accept whatever feedback that you receive from it. It's not like the thing about Donald Trump or Brexit had literally anything to do with gaming - so don't be upset of the comments aren't all about gaming either.
Just my two cents - not that I think either of my comments will be here in 20 minutes.
@andywitmyer are u ok
@Raylax- I am, thanks for asking! 😉 I'm just vehemently anti-censorship, and not a fan of partisan politics on a page that should steer clear of all of that.
The story about the leader of a country using music from Sega was fine. It's gaming related. Maybe not a wise story, but it was fine. Why the author thought that the part at the end - one which is literally begging for a flame war in the comments - was a good idea is beyond me.
@andywitmyer glad ur having a normal one
@Delibheel
So, the author literally asks for and provokes a political fight in his comments section, but then you're suddenly going to delete any further "political" comments. That's pretty funny, don't you think?
@andywitmyer I simply removed all comments discussing politics. So don’t feel targeted or anything. I did not really memorize the names of the users.
Anyhow, it’s not my job to moderate the articles (I literally can’t), just the comments.
@Delibheel
That's fine. I get that - I actually appreciate your neutrality (even if I'm not a fan of comments being deleted). In any case, I said what I wanted to say - I have nothing further to add.
So, NL is happy to disseminate Bolsonaro’s propaganda but we mustn’t askniwledge that he has engaged in hate speech? Better to take the whole article down. I can’t support a website with this kind of editorial approach.
Isn’t it a little strange that this ”Random” article links a tweet from the Brazilian president and throws shade on Donald Trump, yet the moderators of the site threaten to delete political discussion in the comment section?
@G-Boy
Welcome to the internet
Yeah I'm not sure this is the kinda thing to be reporting, like most I come for gaming news mostly centered around Nintendo, not to watch a facist's propaganda.
It’s not like the President made this video. Maybe someone on his social media team is a fan of games. And that’s a good thing, right?
Gaming is for everyone. Fascists. Communists. Regular people. And all of us.
Pretty good music!
@MattFox Really? Your only reasoning to avoid answering to anything that I said is that I can't understand it just because I'm not from Brazil?
And what is that "everything tgat you know is promoted by corporations" stuff? Why you assume my beliefs are the ones that are manipulated?
Sonic 06 is sort of a guilty pleasure of mine.
Nintendolife staff, what did you expect from the comments when you casually made a an article about a far right politician?
In his WOOOOOORRRRLD....
Nice music choice...for a super controversial president!
