Never played Metroid Prime, but the Japan one looks awesome, with the action-focused, futuristic design.
At 287 votes, I'm surprised how close the results are so far.
Tbh the reveal itself and the absolutely perfect timing of animal crossing will be the two main things people will look back on the switch for. Once again, Nintendo has struck gold with the switch. Let's hope they've learned their lesson from their last success and don't make a "Switch U"
I'm having lots of fun playing Pokémon Snap so far. Now I've finished my exams I'll have a lot more time on my hands, so I guess I'll play whatever else comes to me.
Not only is the international version more iconic, but it clearly shows newcomers to the series what it's about. The Japanese one focuses more on the fact that various characters from Nintendo are in the same game, rather than the (excuse the pun) melee that it is.
Not surprised NL haven't bothered to review this. Simple advice: if you're looking to buy this, don't! With a lack of team customisation and gacha-style microtransactions (even though you already pay for the game) it's not worth your time, unless you're interested in multiplayer puzzle and dragons.
@Arkay If you don't want to use Nintendo's "official" way of using voice chat, or not interested in the game-specific services, it's not worth your phone's storage space.
Mario Kart Wii was the first game I ever played and I had an absolute blast with it. Just the idea of being able to drive with a steering wheel like my dad did in his car was mind-blowing to 4-year-old me.
In contrast to what I said about Mario Golf, I think simple and bold does the job here. This is the 3rd game. By this point, you should already know what to expect from a Zelda game, I think the NA boxart shows this clearly.
This is likely just nostalgia speaking, but I grew up with the Wii/DS generation and I'm glad I did. Not only is this the first generation that put Nintendo in the spotlight since the NES, but what other console can most people say that they could play with their grandparents? Even to this day, my nan and grandad still play Wii sports on their Wii.
And with the DS came the advent of worldwide multiplayer on Nintendo games. This is the one generation that everyone can relate to. Pretty much everyone had or played on a DS or Wii. It just proved that you don't need high-end technology to have a good time.
Sure, the switch is pretty much just as popular, but the Wii and DS still kept the fun, experimental side of things that past generations had.
Again, some of my point is just nostalgia speaking, but this generation was the peak point of "Nintendoness".
The first time I played Pokémon was Pokémon Yellow on 3DS VC. I thought "Oh, it's the first game, has the only Pokémon I know on the cover and it's my favourite colour!" Don't get me wrong, it's a good game, but the difficulty and lack of quality-of-life features made it an uncomfortable experience.
While the NA boxart does it's job of showing you what kind of game you're in for, you can't help but appreciate the added flair that the Japanese one gives.
Gonna try and beat Cynthia in Shining Pearl so I can finally catch Shaymin and Darkrai. Apart from that, I don't really have any plans. I'll just play whatever comes to me.
I mean, this is the first I've heard of this theory, but I have to admit there is definitely reason to think so. I'd personally love for it to be that Picolebre design, but thinking of the other fire starters, they've never strayed too far from their genetic family. Who knows, maybe this'll be different?
I don't really have much of a "method" for picking. Other than Litten, I usually go for a water or grass type, depending on which I like the look of most.
Well guys, guess they've given us a year to panic buy everything we want.
Seriously, it's a shame to see so many games be no longer available to other people when the eShop closes. I thought they'd give more time than this before closing it down.
It's not just the games. With the music, reviews and UI in general, the 3DS/Wii U eShops are clearly superior to the switch. Hopefully Nintendo renovates the Switch eShop into something like that.
Erm... Let's just say I was a clumsy 6 year old. I was walking down the stairs with my DS, then it kinda slipped out of my hands... Yeah, you can guess that it wasn't in playable condition anymore.
To me, it felt like so much and so little happened this year simultaneously. However, many memories were made this year (shoutouts to March's "Mario is dead" situation).
Here's to the excitement which next year may bring. Happy new year, all!
My times are: 1. RPG Maker MV - 261 hours (Apparently I'm the "top active player". Oops.) 2. Pokémon Shield - 198 hours (But my brother has played this on my profile alot!) 3. Minecraft - 170 hours (Ditto as number 2.)
When I got an email about this, I saw it as a nice surprise. Hope they do this next year too. (And maybe I should cut back on my RPG Maker time...)
I feel like Pokémon have been trying to "get in with the kids" by following certain trends. I mean, didn't they make a tiktok account earlier this year?
Not saying this is a bad thing, just pointing out how unorthodox it is.
If there's one thing Nintendo is good at, it's being able to rely on them to build a fun machine designed for gaming.
Granted, the Steam Deck makes most aspects of the switch obsolete, but it can't win on one thing: being designed as a designated games console.
These days, most of Nintendo's competitors try to fit as much of everything as they can into their machine, but by holding back, the switch is able to focus on playing pure, family-friendly games, which no other company will beat.
If anything I think Nintendo should continue ignoring the competition in the future and continue being Nintendo. It's what makes them great!

Re: Video: What Was Your First Video Game Ever?
Thinking about it, would've either been Wii sports or Mario kart Wii.
Re: Talking Point: Would You Mind If Nintendo Retired The 'Big' Nintendo Direct Format?
Am I the only one who usually ignores the directs and just waits for sites like NL to report each game?
Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl: Duel #104 - Mario Kart: Double Dash!!
Really hope someday they remake double dash or include a double dash mode in a Mario kart game.
As for my vote, I chose the US/EU version. Clearly shows just how chaotic this game can get.

@HotGoomba Ahh, a fellow connoisseur in the stability of the switch.

Both are similar, but the blue checkered background in the NA version kinda ruins it for me, so I'm going for the Japanese one.

Re: Poll: Budget Line Box Art - Is It 'Fine', Or A Sin Against All That Is Good And Pure?
I honestly couldn't care less, I just want to play the game. So what if the box is silver instead of black, or if it has a small crown on the spine?
