The hugely popular multiplayer party game Fall Guys has finally launched on the Switch and it looks like there are so many of you trying to play at once, the servers collapsed in exhaustion!
With the game launching on Switch and Xbox platforms (all for free, no less!), it was kind of a sad inevitability that it would feel the weight of the new players joining the fold. The good news, though, is that it looks like the servers are mostly back to normal, though you should expect a few teething issues here and there over the coming days.
Here's what the official Twitter account had to say about the issue:
Very droll! At least developer Mediatonic took pretty quick action here; hopefully, the majority of players won't even notice that the servers are having a few issues, but if you tried playing on launch day, you might have found yourself waiting in the lobby for quite a while.
Be sure to check out our review of Fall Guys for the Switch, too. We mentioned that while there were some frame rate quirks and instances of lag, "the Switch version offers a solid way to play if you're looking for some barmy 60-bean battling and the barrier to entry has never been lower".

Had a couple of times last night where it wouldn't let me join a lobby but the issue only happened for a minute or two. Other than that been fine and really enjoying the game.
now i know why they named it fall guy
all i see when i tried playing it is a guy falling for more than 10mins and counting 😆😁
literally playing it right now with no issues, guess it depends
Looking fwd to playing this on the handheld still tbf.
Glad they got that sorted, I tried playing it last night and couldn't find a game at all. Wasn't sure if it was server issues or just that nobody was playing, lol.
Played it last night, was quite fun.
I tried to play it on solo first, but after 10 mins it could find any players, so went back to the main page went to the different games and selected all, then when I went to play I was straight in as a squad game.
Is it me or the game doesn't tell you after the match where you came in the race? 😐 Or am I missing something? I'm playing Solo Show
I think my strategy for f2p games is the best: 1) download on the launch day; 2) open it in a month or two.
I haven’t checked this out yet so my question may be irrelevant if it’s easy and self explanatory in the game… but how do you link your PS4 version if you have one to the switch version? I’d like to be sure I’m using my same account regardless of what system I am playing.
@AG_Awesome just make sure to log into your epic games account on switch. You may have to log into your epic games account first to link your Nintendo account to your epic games account.
That would explain why me and the family struggled to play it last night then!
Never played the game before, and didn't know if the stupidly long wait times (managed to play a couple of rounds) was normal for the game - glad to hear it was just teething issues; looking forward to trying it again later..
@Clyde_Radcliffe unless you come in first, it doesn’t tell you. After each match, it’ll show a screen of the players still left standing in the matches.
@Dogorilla server issues. Happened on launch day back in 2020 as well. The game has always had a high player count
I flat out hate the new currency, my hard earned crowns are now just useless kudos that can only be used for common items.
Also - does anyone know if the game is available to play, even without a Switch Online account?
I have an inactive account, which i'll doubtlessly re subscribe to once Splatoon 3 comes out, but would be nice to know if I can play this on my own Switch as opposed to my sons...
@Andy77mk Fortnite works like that so I guess this is the same.
@Mambitos Fantastic - cheers for the heads up! May well install it on my Switch later and give it a go..
@Andy77mk i believe free to play games don't need nso to play online.
Yeah I actually skipped the Switch version and downloaded the free PC version but struggled a ton to connect yesterday.
@WoomyNNYes Cheers! I know Fortnite didn't require a NSO subscription, so I was hoping that this would be the same..
Guess if that's the case, I can hold out on renewing my subscription for another couple of months (although not being able to play Mario Strikers or Nintendo Sports online is making me lean towards renewing sooner than then...)
Thankfully I was never shut out of games altogether, matchmaking just took longer than usual
Just gave it a try. Won on my first try which was pretty cool. Almost won the second time too.
The choppy framerate of competitors is somewhat annoying but nothing too major. It will mostly be my kids playing anyways.
Yep, got it on pc yesterday and it wouldn't let me in a match. Maybe today, maybe today...
I could only get into one game and gave up trying after half hour.
Crap service
@AG_Awesome The game let's you link to your Epic's Game Account. That should work across platforms.
As a day 1 Fall Guys player and massive fan I was beyond excited for this. It worked fine for me last night and managed to play with my GF while she was on PS4 and me in handheld on Switch. One thing to note with the matchmaking is make sure your region is not on automatic as that seems to be causing an issue for some. Just choose your local region. Other than that for day 1 isn't wasn't too bad, you always expect some issues tho, give them time.
Got to play 2 games last night before the issues kicked in. From what little I've played it seems like a fun game.
@dew12333 had problems last night, but supposedly it was just teething issues; give it a go again today and see how you get on, sounds like you should be able to join matches a lot easier.
Last few matches I played today, I couldn't earn any exp/rewards. Told me that they should be received soon.
I tried to play Fall Guys yesterday, but never found matches. I'll try it again later today.
I played for an hour or two last night in handheld and it ran great. I was pleasantly surprised.
I am looking forward to trying this. The last time I enjoyed a free game was when I played Warframe.
Yeah i had issues on both Xbox Series S and Switch yesterday. I need to get the PC version linked to bring across all my unlocks though.
I didn't have any issues playing on Switch yesterday.
Maybe today I'll have them hahahahah.
We tried yesterday and had issues. I figured that it was a result of everyone trying to play it day one.
I haven’t had any problems yet… the frame rate is a bit annoying at times, but I suppose that’s more of a problem with Switch, not the game. Other than that, I’ve gotten in a lobby every time I’ve tried.
@Andy77mk I'll go back for more, I played it at an event and had some fun, nothing life changing but worth a few hours of my time. I also have a wife and child who really enjoyed it at the event and will be playing lots.
frame rate of other players is pretty chuggy. but the nature of the game is such that that's not really a gameplay concern fortunately, and honestly i kind of like the goofy look of the stuttering animation. plus the user's character and the environments work fine.
Okay I have played about 3 or 4 shows, I made it to the second to the last round and one of them. It is pretty fun, and yes we choppiness is annoying as hell, hopefully they can optimize and fix that because honestly I think there is no reason for it to be doing that besides for lazy programming.
