@WaveBoy With a bit of musing I still might pull the trigger (if I get an invite). The new Donkey Kong does pique my interest and playing the new Metroid Prime 4 would be nice on the Switch 2.
I am a bit let down by Nintendos rules to have a preorder.
I was already down with the reuqirement for an NSO subscription, as this is an easy way to circumvent bots, the other two restrictions are a bit arbitrary. I do hope they eventually send out new invite rounds. So far I am a bit sad, as I really don't want to compete against scalper bots...
I just hope in order to combat scalpers Nintendo will offer the Switch 2 on their store for people with an active Online subscription. (With stock at retailers for everyone else).
I know you are doing those articles for clicks; but articles in conjunction with headlines like this actually are driving me away from this site.
What does each machine do that this is "control...", as the subheader suggests, "... is quality"? What is the machine checking for and how does it work. How is this machine operated / used? Adding that would make this article quality.
@HeeHo ... and only if they find a buyer for that, which means after thinking this has ~$25k value, they need to find someone who things it is worth much more and / or be a mega-fan of Castlevania.
This just shows that those that do get rich on NFTs are already those who are rich themselves.
Since NEO: The World Ends with You has also had a PC release, they left out that they struck - again - an exclusive deal with EGS and yeah, if you leave out a platform like Steam, with a huge userbase and most if them not wanting to start a collection on a another storefront / client, yeah stuff like that does underperform. Don't act all suprised all of a sudden, SE.
@BloodNinja The NFT itself, if I also understand it correctly. It has to make sure that the blockchain is unique; because this will be a one of a kind item, that also needs some ways to secure it, otherwise it would be easy to copy it multiple times. Thus the computing power required so there is (and this is probably simplified and a wrong analogy) a unique lock and a unique key you can't replicate.
@BloodNinja Because to create it the servers need to calculate and that requires energy. Unfortunately the world still has decided to not go 100% renewable energy and thus, resources get eaten up, just to create NFTs.
@RadioDog Exactly this. But not just to maintain, but also create. Just lookup crypto currency which is is also done via a blockchain model and all the farms that farm bitcoins by authenticating.
You mean a game in a franchise that sold well, after a good marketing and with a good revival effort, sold like hot cakes... and Nintendo wants to keep on selling hot cakes? Color me shocked! I say shocked, sir!
Now I wish they would put oin the same effort for an F-Zero reboot...
@Cosmo_Joe I think that is the deal here, actually I am lapsing my complete NSO, as I noticed that I barely use the online portion and just checked into some SNES games out of curiosity.
Also who are you to tell people how they should behave? I could very well say, if you don't like the comments, don't read them and don't engage, but let's be real here, this and youtube is a social platform with a comment section that let you comment on things an if people are using them to announce a boycott (though let's also be real how much potency this really has) oh well...
" literally 99% of the negative comments are about the price 😂. Also the Mega Drive is my favourite console so I'm Hyped and definitely have wanted Sega games on switch like we had on Wii. Plus the AC DLC being included is perfect for me as I was going to buy it anyway!"
And there are ton of people that pay for the access of the AC DLC to access the N64 or Genesis part, without having AC. i.e. me. I am not remotely interested and a big flabberghaster. I assume Nintendo just wanted to sweeten the pot, but it feels offputting to get it in the bag and probably thus bumping up the service costs.
"And 9 N64 games NINE ! back in the day N64 games went for like £70 so that's £630 worth of content straight away, let alone the amount they will be adding later. All I can think is all these complainers must be people who weren't alive / werent playing these consoles in the 90s."
Poor comparison as price for some titles degradeded, especially if you can get some on Wii / Wii U for a fraction of the price you told. Heck, I even can get now a N64 for the fraction of the price. Same for Genesis, some of the games are offered for a fracton of the price when they have been released. Furthermore this is just a rental service as long as the subscription is being paid for (annually) and as long as the subscription exists.
Some people probably have played the titles and search for a legit way to play on a current console. Some are flabberghasted that they might have already paid for games (Sega Genesis Collection) and now it is included and bumping up the price.
"Also there seems to be a whole generation of "I want this, i demand this, you must do as i say, my opinion is fact" pretty scary that these are going to be the people running the show when my generation is in retirement 😐"
I think blaming this on a generation is disingenuous, nobody probably expect this for free, but companies tout always "the way you want" model, and other services that compete with Nintendo provide better options so far, so yeah, expecting a better pricing is not unwarranted.
I've said it in another article, I say it again. This pricing made me reevaluate how frequent I use the NSO offer as is, and thus let my NSO subscription lapse once it runs out by the end of the year.
I will gladly renew if they bring titles I would love to play online like a new F-Zero (and no, X online does not cut it)...
This new Expansion Pack does nothing for me, especially since I have no interest in Animal Crossing. For a reasonable price I would have loved to tinker (again) with some N64 games, but alas...
Don't have Animal Crossing, so the DLC service is moot.
The horrid expansion pack pricing let me reevaluate even my base subscription and since I hardly play online, and the thrill of revisiting some SNES and NES game subsided (especially since some titles I'd like to revisit are just being sold (by other companies)) I think I even let my base subscription lapse. I can always renew when I need it at a later point in time. I.e. if they ever release NEW F-Zero with online capabilities (X does nothing for me)
@OnlyItsMeReid Why would Switch owners care, if they haven't been introduced to a new F-Zero since the GameCube anyway. At this point Nintendo basically can introduce it as a new(ish) franchise.
Also while I have no high hopes to begin with, this was I reply that the Direct satisfied everyone, which it did not do for me.
I wouldn't count out a revival, heck Advance Wars had a good run in the DS, withthe latest release before being on the Famicon, if I have my facts straight, so I wouldn't exactly count it out.
They just need to get off the inconsistent horse of requiring something new for some franchise, but not doing it with other franchises.
@sanderev The same, I sometimes see an announcement of something in stock, but it is already sold out by the time I read and want to make up my mind if I actually want to buy one... and yeah, I hope the scalpers will in the end loose a lot of money, when the PS5 comes widely available.
I rather ask the question, are PS5 and Xbox Series X [not Series S] actually contender for this holiday season?
A lot of PS5 (exclusive) titles seem to be coming 2022 (and I doubt it's january, or else that would have been already set in stone) and both of the consoles are actually MIA (yes you can camp out at onlinestore pages, but the big bucks are being made with comodity sales, the reason I skipped so far on the PS5, is that I can't easily pick one up).
Even the PS4 or Xbox One don't seem to be readily available (albeit I did a quick search).
I would wager the price drop in the face of rising prices for other electronics will probably seal the deal for a lot of holdouts and the library with the added Metroid Dread in autumn will probably also seal the deal and I anticipate a lot of "Christmas Bunbles".
I really loathe this season pass model in fighting games. Sure, partially made to refresh the game, but I always have the feeling that the starting roster suffers greatly from it.
@__jamiie I even have my copy signed by James Euringer, singer of MSI (and the first boss is sculpted after him). He was genuinely excited that someone knew, played the game and brought it to an MSI concert
> They mean it to be an option. And thats what PC is all about- options. USB-C docks were around long before Switch. In fact, where do you think Switch got the idea 😉
Okay, I never said the switch was an original idea, heck I don't think the Wii is it for the matter. Why you are banging me on that, I really don't know. What the Switch did though is making this format of a handheld device that can be docked popular, otherwise we probably would not see the docking option(even though it is not in the base package with the steam deck). Hence my moniker Switch-a-likes. The same way the Wii made motion controls popular, which was my initial point to begin with. That is why I also said "pleases the masses". This has nothing to do with a fanboy ego, just evidence that Nintendo made this format popular and other companies are (yet) seeing if thunder strikes twice. And I also don't think lesser of Valve, heck, if something shows there is a clear market for it and I can deliver on that device, heck, count me in.
I really don't see why you get worked up like this. I have my reservations on the steam deck and that is all, why you trying to prove a point for someone that is clearly not in the market for a Steam Deck is baffling. I like my PC and that I can change parts and have the option to play games on a resolution and further tinker with graphical and I don't need those games around while I am on the go. I like my Switch for specific titles and titles I selected I want to have on the go and run good with it. If you want have other titles and the Switch does not deliver, that is a justified point on your side.
tl;dr If you like it, that is cool with me; and more power to you. I just made a statement that switch popularized someone is understandably trying to take the idea to a different market.
1] The official page mentions there is a dock that is coming [though as you pointed out not included]: https://store.steampowered.com/steamdeck and media reported on this, too. Which means Valve intends for it to be used in conjungtion with the dock to some extent.
While yes, the controllers are not detachable, you can still use controllers.
2] As someone that built a PC from scratch I still would disagree with you. While it might be able to run current titles of the steam library things in the future might be different. What irks me is that this is on the user to find out what works and not. Steam could circumvent with a little label on the page or a tag with Steamdeck". Maybe even some companies will work with Valve and introduce a Steam Deck profile. I put uo with that on PC, because I a] can specc my hardware b] this is also a workstation for me, if I would just need a gaming device, I would actually buy a console.
3] 90 minutes seems like a short session tbh and at that point the question is how viable is it really for gaming on the go. However if that is what you are enjoying, who am i to disagree. I never doubted that the Steam Deck will find it's audience, but I don't think it will please the masses as the NSW does. I am happy to be proven wrong though.
This just reminds me of the time the Wii struck gold and Microsoft and Sony followed suit. With Sony abandoning any handheld plans and Microsoft never have been in the game, we now see rise to Switch-a-likes with the first contender being Steam Deck. Though I think this is like the Wii, a fool's errand to emulate, just because of the install base the Switch is enjoying.
Even the Steam Deck... irks me, as there is an ease of just buying the software and knowing it runs on the hardware. Something that might not be the case for this things like Steam Deck or in this case GDP.
This is the first time I did not tune in to the direct (due to scheduling), but also did not feel the need to tune it after seeing the occasional articles.
My main gripe is that they set some kind of standard with giving IP access with Cadence of Hyrule and now there is nothing new on Nintendo x Indie Studio front and yet there are so many wonderful dormant IPs that could benefit from such a partnership to bring them back to life.
Especially with how popular the Switch is and how well seemingly METROID DREAD had been received, it seems the Switch might be the best way to revitalize a lot of series...
People that are disappointed by this might fail to realize that the Switch is still selling like sliced bread and there is no incentive for Nintendo to catch up on the power, resolution and what not.
This is a nice upgrade for people that still did not get a NSW, or looking for some on the go upgrades, or better connectivity (Lan) and better internal storage, making sure, they can have all those titles that require further downloads, without quickly resorting to an SD card.
I am also one of the few rocking a HD ready TV, because I inherited it from my late father and don't see the need to upgrade and produce more ewaste. I'd wager that there are some households equally not rocking a better tv either for the lack if funds or necessity, but ai contend that this is mere speculation.
Also people seem to forget that the console is still more or less a tablet and will never display 4k, or close to it. 1440p will probably also be out of reach with an updated console, too.
At the end of the day, I just want to plug in a cartridge and play a game, which the Switch does.
I had a fair chance on the Metroid Dread special edition, but ended up just getting the normal one, as I pondered that I really don't need it. Though when I made the decision, more customers best me to it.
Luckily I got the amiibo, so far I only have the Twillight Princess one, but this one intrigued me.
SMT V I at least ordered the physical copy as I fear a limited run.
This reminds me, that I might rebut Tokyo Mirage Session #FE Encore as I liked the normal version already...
@NeonPizza Okay, but I don't know why you specifically replied to me with that, as I never marveled at the graphical prowess, but okay I guess.
At least there is some acknowledgement though, unlike F-Zero, where there is not even an outsourced stop gap game... why I am howling at you about that? Not sure, but again, neither i am why you thought to tag me.
@Caryslan I feel you about Nintendo. The big slap in the face though was that they said it needed a grand new idea to be back and they just remake Advance Wars as is...
@GrailUK At this point 17 years without an entry (and the last was JP exclusive), I take anything. Even a small download title that would reimagine the SNES F-Zero with just a couple of tracks.
But with AWars getting a remake, i would love to revisit GX, or even X (though I liked GX much, much more).
Heck, do a Mario Party Allstars and just throw in all the tracks...
@Ghostchip Don't get me wrong, I am not as livid as to say fans don't deserver a remake re-entry for their IP. I'm happy for them, but it is still a bit salt in the wound.
@Ghostchip That was the most insulting thing about the Advance Wars Remake. With F-Zero they always said "Well, we need to do something new!" and then they go ahead and present just a Remake / Remaster of Advance Wars with just online capabilities. They could do the same to GX any day.
Heck, I would even take a SNES 3D reimagining of F-Zero as a small download title at this point.

Re: Scalpers Set Their Sights On The Shin Megami Tensei V Premium Edition
I had a fair chance on the Metroid Dread special edition, but ended up just getting the normal one, as I pondered that I really don't need it. Though when I made the decision, more customers best me to it.
Luckily I got the amiibo, so far I only have the Twillight Princess one, but this one intrigued me.
SMT V I at least ordered the physical copy as I fear a limited run.
This reminds me, that I might rebut Tokyo Mirage Session #FE Encore as I liked the normal version already...
Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Delivered An Excellent E3 Direct For Fans Old And New
@NeonPizza Okay, but I don't know why you specifically replied to me with that, as I never marveled at the graphical prowess, but okay I guess.
At least there is some acknowledgement though, unlike F-Zero, where there is not even an outsourced stop gap game... why I am howling at you about that? Not sure, but again, neither i am why you thought to tag me.
Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Delivered An Excellent E3 Direct For Fans Old And New
@Caryslan I feel you about Nintendo. The big slap in the face though was that they said it needed a grand new idea to be back and they just remake Advance Wars as is...
Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Delivered An Excellent E3 Direct For Fans Old And New
@GrailUK At this point 17 years without an entry (and the last was JP exclusive), I take anything. Even a small download title that would reimagine the SNES F-Zero with just a couple of tracks.
But with AWars getting a remake, i would love to revisit GX, or even X (though I liked GX much, much more).
Heck, do a Mario Party Allstars and just throw in all the tracks...
Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Delivered An Excellent E3 Direct For Fans Old And New
@GrailUK I agree that that it was nice that some franchise did return, I just hoped it was a franchise I would have preferred
AT LEAST Nintendo has multiple directs over the year, so an announcement could happen for F-Zero... I just hope it does...
Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Delivered An Excellent E3 Direct For Fans Old And New
@GrailUK No, neither if you think it would be okay. It would be just your opinion on what you prefer!
Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Delivered An Excellent E3 Direct For Fans Old And New
@Ghostchip Don't get me wrong, I am not as livid as to say fans don't deserver a remake re-entry for their IP. I'm happy for them, but it is still a bit salt in the wound.
Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Delivered An Excellent E3 Direct For Fans Old And New
@Vortexeo In my case the last entry in the franchise I love was 2004; 17 years without anything
The latest entry of F-Zero was with Climax and that was even a JP only release
Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Delivered An Excellent E3 Direct For Fans Old And New
@Ghostchip That was the most insulting thing about the Advance Wars Remake.
Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Delivered An Excellent E3 Direct For Fans Old And New
I disagree, as an older fan a new F-Zero was much more overdue than the other revitalized IPs and remasters.
I also agree with @Warbeard I would have loved that the Mario Party Allstars content would have been DLC for Super Mario Party.
Metroid Dread was the only pleasant suprise, but that IP hardly needs more love now with even a Prime 4 coming .__.;
