I remember getting this game for free from the developer in Kickstarter when 90's Arcade Racer went to the abyss of terrible business handling of Tyrone Rodriguez.
Pelikan gave me the money back from the Kickstarter pledge and a Steam code for The Takeover. It looked really bad back then, I don't think I have had the game installed at all in years. Should maybe check up on it how is The Takeover now.
Again it seems like the reviewer has completely own expectations compared what the game was in reality.
"The main issue with this Sega Ages release, then, is that it’s a port of the original coin-op version of Puyo Puyo which Sega brought to arcades in 1992: of all the Puyo Puyo games available, this one probably has the least going for it."
The point of the M2 releases is to make an arcade perfect port of the old original arcade games. They do add some graphical option sometimes like a CRT mode etc, but they rarely start updating new modes to the game that never existed in it, with the exception of the so called easy mode that sometimes these releases do have.
I am not sure if the reviewer understands how rare the Puyo Puyo series is outside of Japan.
Only recently we have started to have Puyo Puyo Tetris and Puyo Puyo Champions, but before that Puyo Puyo was not that much existing outside of Japan because Sega didn't want to release the games elsewhere.
It is absolutely integral for game history purposes that we got a arcade perfect port of the first Puyo Puyo on Switch and technically it is done as well as it is possible to be done.
For the future of Sega Ages, I personally hope that we start getting some other arcade games like like combined pack of Virtua Fighter 1&2 would be awesome as would some arcade games of 2000's. Virtua Cop trilogy would be pretty awesome as well.
Shame about the review's quality. The game is one of the greats of the old arcades and the port is simply fantastic as is usual for M2's tech wizards.
I hope Nintendolife's editorial team starts respecting the old Sega arcade games more and puts people to review these who don't have prejudice towards the games.
Gain Ground is fantastic. So many hours of fun was spent playing this game back when I was a kid. Before I even had my own Mega Drive I played GG at a friend's house.
Superbly hard, but it really roped you in and it was extremely addictive.
I don't agree with this review that much, this is one of those older games that made you train your skills to become a better player and it's more like a 7/10 than 5/10. Especially since this is the superior arcade game and not the old 16bit home console port. And you have the magical three player option here!
Complaining about the graphics doesn't make sense, you need to realize this is from 1988.
Bethesda should release Wayne Gretzky Hockey 1-3 on Switch, have it updated with current rosters and some classic early 90's as well like in the originals.
The main creator of Gods Remastered visited The Retro Hour podcast recently and said the game includes the remaster and the original game.
What makes it interesting is that the original game ran at 18fps on Amiga and the Remaster guy said that they have managed to raise the framerate to smooth 60fps for the original version.
This remaster package sounds a lot better price and qualitywise compared to Toki for example. It really sucks that Toki doesn't include the original arcade version of the game and price was crazy.
Immediately bought Thimbleweed Park, such a fantastic game. Third platform and third time I paid for it. Ron Gilbert and David Fox are excellent adventure game designers.
They owe so much money especially to Tom Happ that would've been needed to take care of medical bills for Tom Happ's child. It's beyond imaginable what sort of soulless people are in that Spanish company.
Also a huge warning sign to any indie devs operating with BadLand that they should stay away.
Hopefully this gets sorted out soon and Badland and Luis Quintans will have to pay all the debts back to Tom Happ and also LRG
I think it's a shame that people are constantly crying about Switch versions of these games. I would really like 3DS games to still sell a ton, but it seems all the like 50 million 3DS owners are no longer buying games which feels weird.
I backed this game when the Kickstarter was still alive and the future for the game was bright and promising.
The heated discussions in the KS comments section were quite something back in the day and I was one of the early lucky ones who got the full refund, so I have no unsettled business with the Greek developer. He even paid the exact full amount back so I think he was on the losing end in a way because he did not get the full pledge from me since Kickstarter itself takes a cut of the pledge. I believe not every backer got their refund, and in Kickstarter sense he wouldn't have needed to refund anybody, because KS is not preordering, it is investing to a project that might exist someday.
I was surprised Nicalis took the publishing role at first because I knew that would mean there are troubles ahead. Nicalis has been absolutely lousy publisher who often forgot that Europe exists and only released games in North America. For example Cave Story 3D that still has a page in 3DS eShop but was never released here digitally, still says coming soon in the shop page. It only had a super limited physical release.
Well, Nicalis bought the game ip and resources in the end from Pelikan13 and this game has been shown in some form in some American game conventions, but I have still never seen anything else than still images of it, no gameplay footage from it's new name when it was with Nicalis. We have the clips from the era when Pelikan13 was still making it
I doubt it will ever come to Switch or any other platform and there will be no need for it once M2 and Sega releases Virtua Racing and Daytona on Switch.
One interesting aspect of this development history is that Pelikan13 apologized in a way for messing up this game, he gave years ago for free to the backers of 90's Arcade Racer a Steam key for The Takeover.
Pelikan may have tried to achieve too much as a one man team, but I still think the death kiss was when Tyrone Rodriguez and his Nicalis joined the project.
Thanks for the great advise, just got the physical game for 30€ price and did according to your guide and now I'm playing the game digitally. Starlink looks like a really cool game and looks fantastic.
Starfox has been really well included in the game and it doesn't feel like it's just as an extra afterthought.
I was interested in Toki originally, but gave up when I learned that the original arcade version is not included. Really strange decision because they could've done it properly with the combination of original graphics and new musics, new graphics and original musics etc.
Sega truly was the greatest in the 16-bit era. Nintendo had a fine run with SNES and it's many quality games, but Sega really was the king in that era.
It is a shame Sega is not making consoles anymore as Dreamcast was one of the best consoles ever made, but Sega is to blame because internal struggles and absolutely ridiculous decisions to make Mega CD and 32x.
Nintendo's online subscription service should have had NES, SNES and GBA games from the start and a library of at least 50 games per platform. Also since they seem to be doing 3-4 games per month, it will take forever before the full catalog is available.
It's a shame they did such a poor job with it. The emulator itself is really great and well done. You can clearly see the French Nintendo team is the creator of the NESflix catalog.
The developer confirmed already during last year that the second part is not coming to Wii U and that sucks. I guess I'll have to look for it on PC since haven't seen any Switches under my tv set yet...
But yeah, definitely the developer should thing about releasing the first part and second part together for Switch since this is a continuation of the story and it's a dumb move to have just the sequel on Switch.
Why are these Nintendo downloads news posts so poorly written these days? No mention of discounts of the week and no more voting for what is the user interested in.
Please get your act together, this has been for years the top Nintendo news site in internet. It would be a shame that after a few good guys leave the staff, everything goes downwards after that.
Well modern EA is the most useless shovelware factory, but how can you forget NHL from the list. I know Madden is big in USA but NHL is so much more bigger than Madden because both Europe and USA play NHL games.
Infitizmo is the other company that owns all the 3D games rights that Renegade Kid made, but has done nothing in the past 1.5 years while Jools is pushing out 2D games and ports of their older releases constantly.
@Tempestryke fan whining? What fan whining is about American buyers of the game getting the 1.3. and 1.4. updates a year ago while the European buyers still haven't received it for 3DS even after all the promises during this and last year? Europe still has just 1.2. and that means missing on the uncut "Steam version" of the game.
What is the AGS version that is on Switch? Could someone from Europe confirm that?I would assume they had that updated at least since they don't care about 3DS users.
And still I'm wondering are they really not going to update the European 3DS version at all? Still stuck with 1.2 version when Americans have 1.3 and 1.4. updates for over a year already.
Absolute laziness from the devs when updating games on 3DS eShop is free for developers.

Amazon Germany doesn't have it at all and shopto doesn't want to send this outside UK which sucks.

Awesome. I know the guy who wrote story of the game. I've bought the game on PC and on Switch so far.

When will NLife correct the spelling mistake of the company's name. It's Kairosoft, not Kariosoft. The link will forever be wrong I guess.
Kind of weird that the price is 10 euros, I would've expected something like 5 euros as max.

EA doesn't care I guess.
Re: The Switch Version Of Dragon Quest XI Has A Special Name
I hope they bring the 3DS version as part of the Switch version so there is basically two games in one and that is what the S means.
Still completely disappointed that 3DS DQ11 is not coming to Europe and Americas. Have to wait and rely on fans to make a translation rom out of it.

Re: Review: Detective Pikachu (3DS)

It will be the first Pokemon game purchase for me after all these years. Seems the most interesting of all the series.
Re: Dragon Quest XI On Switch Will Arrive "Much Later" Than Other Versions
Squeenix is the most idiotic company if they don't bring the 3DS version to west. Especially since the damn 3DS is region locked.
I would exchange the Ps4/PC version any day to the 3DS version since it looks absolutely fantastic technically compared to the PS4 version.
The DS and 3DS games sold millions of copies. And this is the support that we get from Squeenix for DQ11.
I bet what will happen in the end is that Nintendo helps to publish the 3DS version in the west. Just like the previous DQ games.
