During the PS3 and DS generation, SquareEnix put out FFXIII 1,2,3. They put out FFIII, FFIV, DQIV, DQV, DQVI, DQIX, DQ Joker, DQ Slime Something, FFX Revenant Wings, The World Ends with You, and probably more than I can remember.
I know that during this Switch, PS4/PS5 gen they have put out just as much I suppose. But compared to three FFXIII’s it kind of appears to me that their output has slowed.
I don’t mind simpler graphics, PS3/3DS/DS type are fine, if that’s what brings more quality games like a FFVI remake.
Consider a theoretical Nintendo subscription service of $20/month, $240/year. Over the course of a year if I were to play Zelda TOTK, Splatoon 3, Mario Wonder, and Pokémon Scarlet, it would be $240/4 games = $60 per game. Sounds like normal pricing, but what if my life gets busy and I can only manage TOTK and Splatoon for the entire year, now both games cost $120 each. Or what if I want to return to Luigi’s Mansion 3? Well I would have already payed subscription to play it when it came out and pay again to play it again years later. Therefore, for gamers like me that play just a few games per year and sometimes over the course of several years (BOTW, Animal Crossing, Splatoon), the games cost would add up to be far more than $60 per game. Extrapolate this out 5-10 years, revisiting a classic you love. How comfortable would you feel sinking more cost into a game just to replay it versus just paying once and only once.
Subscription services are evil. We will charge you $1 everyday to have access to viewing the sunset, but what if I don’t look at it, we still charge you for the access rights.
I don’t like the thought of paying a subscription fee to access a growing library of games. At face value that sounds like a weird thing to say. But considering I play games slowly, for multiple hundreds of hours, a subscription would feel like I’m paying hundreds of dollars per game rather than the $30-60 that I willingly pay now. For example I play Splatoon 3 almost daily, I whittle away at Zelda BOTW every few days (will eventually get to TOTK in a year or so), every so often I pop into Sparks of Hope, NSMBU, etc. I keep a rotation going, it keeps me happy. I buy many of my games on sale including TOTK. They sit till I get to them. They are a sunken fixed cost. Sparks of Hope will only ever cost me $20, BOTW $35, TOTK $45, Splatoon 3 $47, NSMBU $35 and so on. I can play these games as slowly as I please and repeatedly play them again and again.
But with a subscription service I would feel like I am paying many times more to play my rotation of games.
I’ve had an Apple Music subscription for half a year now and I am questioning it. I already own a lot of music that I have enjoyed listening to over the last 20 years. There is not enough new music to justify the monthly subscription. As I see it, I’m repeatedly paying to listen to the same rotation of music each month (whether it be new or old favorites).
The same feeling will occur with a gaming subscription. I like to pay once and enjoy perpetually.
I love his Luigi voice the most! I’ll certainly miss hearing it and the other voices in future games. It’s strange that most media headlines act as if he only voices Mario.
I have never wanted to be on any Xbox ever. I don’t like those kinds of games nor their attitude. I like Nintendo style games and have liked some Sony platform games, but Xbox has never had anything that I want.
1/3 of games (mostly indies) on Xbox do come to Switch. IMO that makes Nintendo a competitor. I don’t see Nintendo as a companion console as both Microsoft and Sony have failed to interest me enough in their games to justify buying their consoles. Especially so because they don’t offer handheld gaming. I don’t want to own a TV.
I cannot understand what is going on with her second leg (where is it), nor can I understand her shorts/skirt. I vote NA, even though it is bad, at least it isn’t a wild mess of confusion.
They could flood the land and have us sail from island to island (mountain peak to peak), they could put a giant egg on a mountain peak, they could have us time travel to distant past to future where land formations have changed, they could make a small side game out of 1/3 of the map and really flesh out the environment, people’s stories and routines.
I don’t know if ocean water would make you stinky but at least Link in the Wind Waker is the saltiest. How about Link in Majora’s Mask or in Links Awakening, in those games we have Link swimming swamp water. Sure the hot sun will bake your cloths and hair dry but you’ll still have algae and microbes all over, probably stinking. Not to mention the sweat, dirt and enemy juices that get on you.
Splatoon 3, it’s the one Switch game that has resonated with me the most of all Switch game, in fact, of all modern gaming, aside from MGS:V/Ground Zeros. Just started BOTW a few days ago, it’s just OK, but peaceful and relaxing.
I thought tri-color was fun and very challenging, even against my own teammates.
I was on team Nessie. I’ve heard people say that team Nessie played too hard, world have rather been playing ranked, took things too seriously. I would actually say that I felt that way about team Aliens. As a result it caused me to play very hard because my Nessie matches were always loosing.
Maybe I have a misunderstanding but I thought Splatfest Pro matches were ranked. Whereas Open were a mix of all skill levels. While playing Pro I was beginning to wonder if A and S ranks had lowered their rank prior to the Splatfest. I’m B+ and I felt like the Pro Matches against team Aliens we’re as if I was playing against rank reset S and A players.
Therefore I was very surprised to hear that team Nessie won.
It’ll have a strong social online component. Players without NSO will miss out on quite a bit. Players will leaves messages for each other as seen in Dark Souls and Death Stranding. Additionally, players will also help transform the world like was seen in Death Stranding but with a Nintendo flare. Never been done before.
Quote: To improve the matchmaking efficiency in Open Anarchy Battles, teams will be disbanded and new players will be added if only a few current players select Keep Going.
IDK what to think on this. Usually those who stick around battle after battle are pretty fun to play with, some of them I’ve added as friends. This new change kind of ruins that, I think.
As a child playing Zelda Links Awakening, I got the shovel and was told by the character that I should try digging different places, you never know what you may find. I dug almost every diggable space in the games lower map until I figured that he must not have meant for me to dig everything. Lol. It was hard to shake as I still believed there was some rare treasure somewhere.
Pokemon Sword and Shield Lite, That’s the one I have. I love the classic Nintendo grey with the fun and colorful buttons. I think it’s the best looking Nintendo console ever!
Why does my rank have to reset when a new season starts? That’s what I really do not look forward to! I have finally gotten up to B+ and am half way to A-, but on March 1st I be reset to C-, what a motivation killer!
Besides that, all those who are naturally in the lower ranks, and new players, will then get flooded with higher ranked players that have been reset to lower ranks. I remember what that felt like when I was lower rank, it was brutal, I almost gave up on playing the game. It’s very demotivating!
The 30 FPS is news 18 years late! All rereleases (PS3, Steam, and now PS4 & Switch) are based off of the 18 year old PS2 port of the Game Cube original. Why are rereleases based off PS2? Because that release had extra voice acting, dual language audio, skits, side story, costumes, extra challenges. As for sub 30 frames, maybe the reviewer is confused with the automatic camera system that automatically pans the camera in towns/dungeons, following the character. This camera can get jerky when caught up in some tight areas. Happens on Game Cube as well.
I won’t defend the ai upscale texture work. For $40, all textures and polygons should be redone by hand.
I am unfortunately not hyped at all. I like an old quote from Miyamoto that went something like: “There is little value in remaking past games. New experiences are what drive the art forward.” Basically saying “new ideas or no new game”. I tend to agree. So far this new Zelda does nothing to excite me at all. It is too similar to BOTW. I’ve already been here, done that.
And what’s with adding contemporary culture, aka drone riding, into the game? That is the quickest way to age your game like rotten milk. Make the drone more abstract, to the point that it is unrecognizable, that would be a good start. I know many do not like Forspoken, but I would rather Link run around and Jump/Hover/Glide like Frey does. That is how you do an abstract hover drone that ages like fine wine.
It looks as lewd as Xenoblade 2, the story premise appears to be a generic cardboard template, not only does battle music sound like background wallpaper, you are unable to get into a musical groove because the music is constantly interrupted by battle animation engagements and it’s own flourish of music. The rings and hom-base activities appear to be busy work. I still remember when people complained about Death Stranding being busy work, a job. In the years since, it appears people have accepted this kind of “gameplay” as acceptable or even desirable. I hate it. Lastly, the anime aesthetic (art, drama, acting) is just too over the top, cringe (referencing that man jumping in the air to ask forgiveness for firing an arrow at Alear). Just cringe.
So no, I won’t be buying any game like this at all.
No, stop asking. Splatoon 3 loads Turf Wars, Samon Run matches in seconds, wait in lobby’s is seconds. Graphics are outstanding. PS4 Fortnight loading is 30 seconds, lobby’s are slow, graphics not that much better at all.
You don’t announce new hardware when your current hardware and games are selling very well and still grown with new customers. This is not the first Wii where it’s popularity fell off rather fast in is last years. There is no need for Nintendo to panic and reveal hardware now. That would kill the current system.
I like the convenience of digital but I also do not trust Nintendo, at all. Nintendo’s next console could lack a cartridge slot but still be backwards compatible with digital games only. The biggest issue is that we have no idea what Nintendo will do. My collection is 1/3 digital, 2/3 physical.
The way Steam operates is the de facto, the best. Nintendo will be unable to follow their lead if Nintendo’s future consoles are unique from each other in form and function. Given that, perhaps this argument is pointless. If Nintendo were to make each new generation of hardware unique, as they have historically, then digital vs physical doesn’t matter too much as your games are likely locked to Switch and maybe one generation of successor hardware. If Nintendo where to standardize their hardware and never stray too far from 16:9 aspect ratio, standard d-pad, abxy, r1, r2, L1, L2, motion, ARM processor, then perhaps they could allow customers to carry forward games for decades as Steam does.
And like I said, that cartridge slot may not stick around for too much longer. IDK, there are retailers to consider and the chip crisis to consider as well.
I can say the same thing, but my words are scattered on the wind. Being a celebrity, quoted from Twitter, doesn’t make his desire any more certain or interesting.
The Steam Deck still has a long way to go, and PC gaming further to go, before they rival the simplistically of inserting a Switch cartridge and playing. The whole tweak your PC game until you get a good balance of graphics and frame rate is what eventually pushed me towards consoles. When on PC I was wasting a good 4-8 hours with each new game, testing settings, trying to get a good balance. It was not fun, but a chore. The Steam Deck largely appears to be the same, aside from the tweaks Valve makes for the popular games available on the Deck. But even then, most users are then tweaking to get as much battery or to reduce thermals. Again, a chore.
The lines that Peach said are the same lines said in 100 other films. You hear them said so many times you can predict the end of their sentence. Boring.
The only truth I know to be sure, this Hideki Kamiya, he is a xenophobic disgrace, calling English speakers insects. His twitter banner says it repeatedly. He is a mentally sick individual. Calling people insects is enough to put me off from buying any of his games, ever!
Nintendo should sever ties with him 100%. Knowing that this man has been tweeting xenophobic slurs for a very long time, I am extremely surprised that Nintendo has not severed ties and ceased financing him long ago.
This isn’t outrage. Nobody should tolerate xenophobic slurs or actions. Don’t matter who, what, or when. It is not acceptable. Not even as being “part of his character”. No he is a natural born pr**k who thinks he can get away with his awful attitude by pretending that it is part of a cool-guy/tough-guy persona. Nope, he is mentally ill and wanna-be cool kids prop him up as an idol.
My opinion on Tenta Missiles, Beam Ray, Shark Slider and so on, stop complaining and work out how to avoid them. That is part of the fun challenge of any game. Learn the tells, the pattern, the noise, and then overcome the threat. As for the Beam Ray, simply jump over or duck under, easy. The Shark slider has a huge tell. The Tenta Missiles have a huge visual and audio tell and are easy to swim away from.
I still think this is a joke, all dunky does are jokes. I think this is a commentary on how flooded the Indy market is with crap. Also the lack of Nintendo or equivalent seal of approval.
Maybe I’ve been playing too much Splatoon but it seems to me there is a Dev at Nintendo who is actively messing up phone numbers while another Dev is trying to regain stability. Who will win this turf war!?
This is my first Splatoon and I am surprised that you can’t play Turf-War or practice at all in this demo. The NPC’s tell me I need to. I spent a good hour messing around trying to join a match. Things like getting dressed, picking my load-out, drawing a picture, voting, and even after that I still can’t practice. Really weird. Seems others cannot either as they are drawing pictures complaining out the lack of gameplay right now. Noobs like me will spend Saturday’s match just fumbling about trying to get the hang of things. I was hoping that Thursday and Friday would allow new players to get practice in.
You can thank Linus Tech Tips for the surge in Switch emulation. They did an entire video on YouTube about a month ago. The comments under that video display so much vile hatred for Nintendo, yet his community feels entitled to steal from the one they hate.
Why would I spend $30 above the $60 when I barely understand what the extra content is. Getting a few guns early is not worth it. As ScottTheWoz says, pay more so that you can hurry up and play less of the game.
The time span between games has gotten out of hand. Let’s get back to 900 days. Also, who is Zelda? It’s been so long I’ve forgot. Who was I supposed to save?
@RudeAnimat0r Wow, I did not see that third face in there at all. NA version is the best, just The vampire hunter, his whip, the moon, and dracula’s castle; that’s all we need.
I’m excited. I like cheerful, brightly colored games, especially srpg’s that can be played in short burst. I can’t stand to play overt long, try-hard, dark (in color and content), disgusting, or very serious games much anymore.
While Nintendo Life and Twitter would like to focus on the word “Laziness”, it would be better if the NL author didn’t jump on the Twitter hurt pile and simply said it as it is, the game industry, like most employment situations, treat their employees like slaves. The fat cat Master is who makes the decision to release games half cooked. Those twitter users linked in this article whom are defending their employer’s decision to work them in crunch time are like slaves who thank their Master for mistreatment. It would be best if there were serious talks about work reform.

Learn the tells, the pattern, the noise, and then overcome the threat. As for the Beam Ray, simply jump over or duck under, easy. The Shark slider has a huge tell. The Tenta Missiles have a huge visual and audio tell and are easy to swim away from.
Re: Video Game YouTuber Dunkey Launches His Own Indie Publishing Company
I still think this is a joke, all dunky does are jokes. I think this is a commentary on how flooded the Indy market is with crap. Also the lack of Nintendo or equivalent seal of approval.
Re: Poll: So, How Are You Pronouncing Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom?
I will call it Zelda Tears, not Zelda TOTK, that looks dumb. And Tears is like that thing Zelda does when she cries.
Re: 3DS System Update 11.16.0-49 Is Now Live, Here Are The Full Patch Notes
Maybe I’ve been playing too much Splatoon but it seems to me there is a Dev at Nintendo who is actively messing up phone numbers while another Dev is trying to regain stability. Who will win this turf war!?
Re: Splatoon 3 Connection Issues? Looks Like An Update Is On Its Way
All the modes.
Re: Random: Bored Splatoon 3 Players Are Recreating Pong And Screensavers In The Lobby
Last night I was playing Turf War and between battles about all 8 of us were having a squid party, jumping up and down together in squid form.
I’d rather it be here in the lobby than on the battlefield like was seen in Splatoon 2.
The most I’ve ever waited was 120 seconds. Usually if it goes that long a communication error comes shortly.
Re: Talking Point: What Do You Want To See At Tomorrow's Nintendo Direct Showcase?
BOTW2, Odyssey 2, and a new 2D ZELDA.
Re: Video: Mario + Rabbids Sparks Of Hope Showcases Wiggler Boss Battle Gameplay
Maybe Nintendo should finance more games with Ubisoft or invest in their stock or buy this team.
Re: Rumour: The Mario Movie's True Title Probably Won't Shock Anyone
@RiasGremory I would definitely enjoy a Mario and Rabbids movie!
Re: Rumour: The Mario Movie's True Title Probably Won't Shock Anyone
Mario the Musical. Because it’s script leaked months ago to be a musical.
Re: Poll: Do You Actually Want Switch Ports Of Wind Waker And Twilight Princess?
I would rather have a NEW 2D Zelda developed by Capcom.
Re: PSA: Splatoon 3's Splatfest World Premiere Demo Is Now Live
This is my first Splatoon and I am surprised that you can’t play Turf-War or practice at all in this demo. The NPC’s tell me I need to. I spent a good hour messing around trying to join a match. Things like getting dressed, picking my load-out, drawing a picture, voting, and even after that I still can’t practice. Really weird. Seems others cannot either as they are drawing pictures complaining out the lack of gameplay right now. Noobs like me will spend Saturday’s match just fumbling about trying to get the hang of things. I was hoping that Thursday and Friday would allow new players to get practice in.
Re: New Denuvo 'Switch Emulator Protection' Tech Launches, And Players Are Worried
You can thank Linus Tech Tips for the surge in Switch emulation. They did an entire video on YouTube about a month ago. The comments under that video display so much vile hatred for Nintendo, yet his community feels entitled to steal from the one they hate.
Re: Mario + Rabbids Sparks Of Hope Announces Season Pass And Gold Edition
Why would I spend $30 above the $60 when I barely understand what the extra content is. Getting a few guns early is not worth it. As ScottTheWoz says, pay more so that you can hurry up and play less of the game.
Re: Random: We've Been Waiting Over Half A Decade For A "New" Mainline Zelda Game
The time span between games has gotten out of hand. Let’s get back to 900 days. Also, who is Zelda? It’s been so long I’ve forgot. Who was I supposed to save?
Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl: Duel - Castlevania: Circle Of The Moon
@RudeAnimat0r Wow, I did not see that third face in there at all. NA version is the best, just The vampire hunter, his whip, the moon, and dracula’s castle; that’s all we need.
Re: Adventure Academia: The Fractured Continent Locks In A Western Release
I’m excited. I like cheerful, brightly colored games, especially srpg’s that can be played in short burst. I can’t stand to play overt long, try-hard, dark (in color and content), disgusting, or very serious games much anymore.
Re: Random: GQ Calls Video Game Patches "Laziness", And People Are Not Impressed
