The funniest thing about this? It's not even been mentioned coming to Nintendo, but NL will post it anyway. Don't let a little thing like that stop a Nintendo news website posting about it.
I don't get the hype with this game. I'm a lifelong Fire Emblem fan, I own every game, every Limited/Collectors Edition, and have completed them all. But I hate warriors games. I bought the first one, played a few hours got bored. I could tell there was a similar feeling after the limited edition was found in bargain bins worldwide. Then this got announced, and yeh I've bought the LE, played it an hour or two, probably won't touch it again.
Well now that I know it's "Late July" for pre-orders, I can stop checking Nintendo Store's website every hour, every day since it was announced. That's more information than they usually give us.
NL needs to stop using that image of a switch with swapped out joy con shells that cost a few quid from Ali Express. Yes, it's obvious it's someone at NL's switch, they needed a picture, so they took one instead of getting a stock photo. Surely they could have taken an image with standard shells for professionalism?
I saw this the other day as I have followed Jim for years. Never once did I think NL would be making an article about it, but here we are. Any affiliate links to his online store?
It's quite funny that NL has to remind everyone in the article that this came out on the Switch. If this wasn't on any Nintendo console, they wouldn't be reporting on it.
@UltimateOtaku91 Because the work experience lad at NL, who is given the simple articles that require copying and pasting from a PDF, doesn't know how to copy and paste.
How many more articles from this book is NL going to put out? Yeh, some of them are good for discussions, but what's the point in buying the book if you're going to drip feed them all into articles to get ad revune?
The only reason I can see the blockers being a good idea from Nintendo's perspective is so that people don't take their Switch into a store and scan an amiibo without buying it. However, they were a thing before the Switch. But honestly, here in the UK, I don't know of any physical store that stocks them anymore, it's either Amazon, Nintendo store or the like.
I don't really like the look of this book at all. Even if it wasn't the case that it's instantly outdated as soon as a new amiibo comes out, how small is that thing? The image above showing inside, there's a lot of text on each page which will be hard ro read. If the pictures of the amiibo in the above are anything to go by, they look like the stock photos Nintendo uses. I'm surprised Nintendo are happy they're using those to be honest instead of taking their own pictures. And those overlays to make it look like they're a in box, the banner with their name is fine, but why add a plastic box when there's no card back to it? I personally use amiibo.life to track my collection, and that gives you useful information about what games you can use each amiibo in and what they do.
The whole idea of this is stupid, not just that it's a quality of life feature you shouldn't have to pay extra for, but that you have to carry around a physical toy with your portable console in order to do it.
If the game doesn't hit #1 in the weekly sales chart, stuff like this is the reason why. On the same day, a £20 amiibo, £70 joy cons and a £50 game are releasing. I can't be the only one who will prioritise the limited items and get the actual game later on.
I was going to pick this up on day one. But then I spent my money on better stuff, like pre-ordering the European physical releases of FF7 and 8 on Switch and FF8 on PS4, also forgot Trails IV was coming out so got that too.
The thing is, it's getting close to christmas. Grown ups with cash to throw at video games (such as myself) are reigning it in to be able purchase gifts for others. Others who are hoping to have a specific game for christmas arn't going to have it purchased for them on release 2 months before it's given.
After pre-ordering the JP physical version and living in the UK, the region lock in multiplayer doesn't bother me too much. My friends weren't going to buy it anyway, so I'm guessing they just need to create JP PSN accounts and download the demo from there. Even if they did want to buy it, they could just get the JP version too. What I really want to know is if the JP version has an English language option, can't find it stated anywhere, taking a real punt on that.
@antdickens Thanks for clearing that up, I didn't realise anyone was actually asking the question. Thank god NL is here to answer these questions.
Only thing it's missing now is the ever so helpful Amazon buttons that NL provides us idiots with because we don't know how to use Amazon search ourselves, not to mention they're never the cheapest.
My god NL, slow news day? Might have been news worthy if you had an interview with her about her role, even reposted from somewhere else. Instead it looks like the work experience lad has stumbled across something on IMDB on his lunch break.
There's plenty of manufacturers making Nintendo themed toys, such as Jak's Pacific. If they had made these sets, albeit in a solid no-assembly required form, I'm guessing no one would complain, you wouldn't even know about it because there'd be no hype about it. Everyone's just lost their sh*t because it's Lego and have all these pre-determined ideas about what it should be.
@Ogbert Ah crap, I posted something negative on NL didn't I. On a serious note, I never said normal mini figures don't bring enjoyment. My point was that they've had to enhance the figures to allow for the new interactive features which normal mini figures wouldn't allow, such as the LCD screen. I like these enhancements and don't see the problem. It's not like they've made these sets as Duplo, and they're just extra chunky for no reason.
I don't get why people are saying "I'd prefer normal mini figures". The whole point of this is it's interactive. Sure if they made it with mini figures, it's going to sell well with all of us middle age people ready to thow our disposable income at anything with Nintendo on it. But it would just sit on a shelf collceting dust. At least there's something unique about this.
The biggest reason with things like this selling out instantly is that most places now only charge you on dispatch. If you had to fork out the money when ordering, most people won’t have that money at short notice. Guaranteed in the week leading up release, it’ll start coming back in stock as people cancel pre-orders.
"GAME – the UK's only video game-focused high street retailer"
Yeh, but other places are selling it too. Picked my copy up from Smyths this morning. Cheapest place too being £45 and then £5 off if you do click and collect like I did.
I really don't have time for Super Rare Games. Maybe if they made EU physical copies of things like Megaman 11, Phoenix Wright trilogy, Dragon Quest Collection to save me on the import tax then I'd be interested. Plus part of the charm of these "indie" games is that they're cheap because they're digital only, and not having to price match the expensive physical copies.
I'm ok with this. Looks like it's going to be a Japan exclusive physical release so was going to have to order from Play Asia, I have another few months for my wallet to recover from Christmas.
@Impaler-D I was being sarcastic. Don't get me wrong, I love the switch. It's just I have no interest playing games that came out on other consoles at least a year prior, that if you were to pick up now are a fraction of the cost for the same game. I'll just stick with Switch exclusives thanks.
Good old NL comment section where everyone thinks their opinion out does everyone's else's
I can't help but feel that Nintendo have made the switch with only first party games in mind. The switch runs Nintendo games just fine, so it's the third party developer's problem if their game doesn't run on it. But still, investing a year into making this work on Switch when most of the target audience would have already played it.
I bought Just Dance 2018 on the Switch eShop a few months ago when it was heavily discounted for my 4 year old daughter. I wouldn't mind purchasing JD 2020 for her, and despite being very protective over my Switch, I'd rather buy it for that than the Wii only as holding a single joy con is easier for her than the Wiimote.
