We've got an update for the European Xenoblade fans out there. According to Nintendo UK's official website, the extra contents of the Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Collector's Edition won't be released in time for the game's new launch date - 29th July.
If you do reserve a physical copy of the Collector's Edition in this region, you'll receive the game software on the launch date, and the additional contents at a "later date" - which is expected to be at some point during Autumn / Fall 2022. Notably, all items will be shipped with free delivery.
"Please note: if you reserve the Xenoblade Chronicles 3: Collector’s Edition, you will receive the packaged Xenoblade Chronicles 3 game software when it launches on July 29th. The additional contents of the Collector’s Edition (Nintendo Switch SteelBook® case, softcover concept art book and outer box packaging) will be delivered separately at a later date (expected delivery timing: autumn 2022). All items will be shipped with free delivery."
As mentioned in our pre-order guide. the Collector's Edition / Special Edition (exclusive to the My Nintendo Store) includes package artwork from Masatsugu Saito, a full-colour 250+ page hardcover art book and a steel case. We'll let you know when pre-orders go live:
So, there you go - if you do get this edition of the game and happen to be located somewhere in Europe, you might be waiting a little while for all these extra goodies. Nintendo has also reportedly confirmed a similar rollout for the Collector's Edition in Japan, and it sounds like it'll be the same deal in North America.
We'll keep you posted if we hear any updates. How do you feel about this? Leave a comment down below.

Wow, so basically this shows Nintendo rushed to bring the release date forward, but why? Would of made more sense to bring splatoon 3 out first especially as it would be the summer with kids being off school.
I mean that's fine imo. The artbook often gives away things later in the game I'd rather not see so I'm always apprehensive about flicking through it until I'm deep into the story or until after I've finished it. At least they're shipping the game on release day. Now if they would hurry up and put pre-orders up...
Eek! Have I missed the pre-order???
@UltimateOtaku91 Splatoon probably needed more development time than Xenoblade, hence why they changed the launch order of these two games.
@UltimateOtaku91
I mean, not necessarily.
Production of the goodies might just have been planned for the original release date and it is too late to push the production date by so much.
Factories don't just sit there doing nothing until they are needed after all. They are probably already booked for other products for the timeframe.
@GrailUK Not yet, been waiting for them to go live for at least a few weeks
That might bother me if I thought I had any chance of actually snagging one.
Honestly, I'll probably beat the game by the time it arrives so I can dive into the artbook without worrying about spoilers. XD
@UltimateOtaku91
It kinda sounds like all the collector edition items would still be shipped at a later date even if Xenoblade Chronicles 3 launched in September as originally intended.
So same thing as in Japan...I don't mind waiting, as long as they don't ask me to pay shipping twice, since I'll have to import this. Hopefully, I won't miss the pre-order window.
Still, a baffling decision to make this an exclusive, when it wasn't for the previous games...I still don't see why exactly they pushed forward when they clearly aren't ready for it, but hopefully, it won't affect the game itself.
Gonna be weird having the rest of the CE arrive in autumn when i've had the game for months already. Probably like this sionce the produciton line is on track for the september release, and for whatever reason cannot push that forward to the new date. I'm fine with it, as long as I get the CE i don't mind.
@ItsATM @AndyC_MK111 Thanks guys. Would be lovely to have a pre-order date so that I can avoid minor heart attacks like that one lol
Sounds like this will end up coming with BOTW2 and Switch NeXt console at this rate. So that means if you PreOrder the SE and they run out of bonus you get nothing right? They don't tell how this will fix this if purchase demands out stripped Supply what then. This has happen before and doesn't mean it will happen again with demands. They outsale what they can do and then cancel or tell buyers sorry No Can Do you get what you get. Why not just not Block Preorder for the SE until inventory is there and then they can preorder.
hope they give us a release date for the special edition to preorder been watching the nintendo site for it to become available for preorder.
@UltimateOtaku91 I'd say you've answered your own question there. I imagine Splatoon 3 suffered some unannounced internal delay, with it due to release when XB3 is now releasing (which would've been just over 5 years since 2 came out). They simply swapped the dates.
Weird. It's almost like the game was originally supposed to come out in September or something. Huh.
Nintendo doesn't release anything all at once anymore, so this isn't a surprise.
So the Special Edition is still now out yet, fyi, I've been watching NoA for the tweets and also the website - it still says TBD.
But I don't mind the Special Edition content coming late, just need to make sure I get it!
So.. we get the game on day 1 if we pre-order but not the bonuses? Hm... I'm fine with it cause at least we can play the game day 1 if we do get the collectors edition!
I’m good with this as well because I still want to play the game day 1. Well if I actually get a CE edition. 😒
It looks nice, but the standard edition will be fine for me. I still have to finish Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition and start Xenoblade Chronicles 2. So I won't get to XC 3 for a while, but I'll still pick up a copy day 1!
I'm okay with waiting for the bonuses on this one If it's reasonably priced and I can reserve one on time, this is still the version of the game I'm going with.
It's nice to see transparency like this. I'd rather get the game earlier (assuming it's polished) and extra content later. I'd imagine they finished the game as a priority and worried about packaging after, or hell, maybe the response to the announcement was so positive they decided after the fact to make a collector's edition.
sort of reminds me of DQ11 which had a collector's edition which didn't include the game
Fine by me...as long as there are a reasonable number of SEs available.
This information was listed for some time now...
Laughs in sealed XBC3 Special Edition with no game included going for $299 in six months’ time
What a clusterf*ck, Nintendo. You’re almost as anti-consumer as Square-Enix at this point lol
To recap, Advance Wars and BOTW2 were delayed, Splatoon 3 has been drip feeding info to a concerning degree (shouldn’t we know the new idol characters by now?), and even the Mario movie got pushed back. Customers are still hostile to the $50 NSO Expansion Pack, and N64 games have been added pretty slowly for those who signed up.
Yeah, I can see why Xenoblade 3 traded places with Splatoon 3.
This makes me kinda worried that the game is going to be buggy and kinda crap at release. This sounds like a heavy "wait for reviews" situation for me.
Unfortunate, but at least we're getting the game 2 months ahead of time.
That sounds like a terrible idea that's going to kill CE sales, sadly
What a mess. How can you release the contents of a collectors edition after the release of the software. It’s like opening a Christmas present with half the gift missing.
What’s even more of a shambles is they haven’t even actually offered the collectors edition up for pre order yet in the uk.
What an absolute mess. What happened to releasing stuff complete?
@YessMasster Well, it can stop scalpers from buying all CE stock. So maybe, in the end, this would allow some fans to actually buy the CE version.
And sure this was clearly caused by releasing the game early. But I don't see delaying the game again because of the collector's edition really as an option.
@UltimateOtaku91 it’s been rumored the game has been complete for a while now.
It probably was. Collector rewards don’t signify any “rushing out.”
I feel bad for monolith having their game treated like a stop gap between Nintendo's first party games. Nintendo so desperate to get it out the door they are willing to launch the collectors edition after release of the software.
so offensive to the devs and everyone who put in the effort to make a complete package
@moodycat Xenoblade special editions are actually some of the best SE you can get, the artbooks are always gorgeous and they often come with soundtracks in some form. Definitive Edition's came with an actual vinyl record copy as well as a digital download!
Wonder if the same will happen in NA.
Doesn't matter either way, as awesome as it would be to play at the end of July, I don't mind waiting if there is a delay (or if they just ship out the goodies separate from the game).
I will continue to stalk the website until it becomes available to order my copy.
On the one hand, this is not even slightly a surprise, since the tiered delivery system was communicated up front regarding the Japanese collector's edition.
That being said, it's really frustrating how far behind the Japanese promotion English language promotion is lagging for XC2... feels almost like an afterthought
It's the same deal in Japan. Also, it went up for pre-order in Japan a few weeks ago, and for whatever reason Nintendo's website absolutely refused to work with my credit card (even though I've used it plenty of times before), but fortunately they didn't sell out immediately like everything else does on that site so eventually I was able to snag a copy. Also also, this being Japan I bet I paid like 800% more than you people in other countries did/will.
I'm worried given preorders are limited the My Nintendo Online Store also in North America that Nintendo has made even less of these special editions then they normally do and the site won't be able to handle the traffic making securing a preorder impossible. Nintendo doesn't have a great track record.
I can really see this helping to stop scalpers.
I would just like to buy the artbook separately and not call it "a special edition". Special edition is goodies like figurine or pins, or stickers at least ;D
