@Lizuka Wii? Amiibo's?
Really?
After less than stellar sales of the Gamecube & before that the N64 wasn't much better the Wii was a much better hit than expected.
The Gamecube lifetime sales was 22 million verses Wii's first quarter alone 101 million units
So the Wii sold 4 times more units in 3 months that what the gamecube did in 6 years.
That's not really scarce at all what so ever.
The numbers alone would tell you that the Wii was a bigger hit than expected & naturally means it would sell out easily.
So long story short the Wii was a bigger hit than expected.
As for the Amiibo's it looks more like miss management with them.
How else would you explain that the same amiibos sell out in some regions & yet still widely available in others.
Take the Splatoon triple pack for example it sold out in north america yet in certain european countries & here in Australia they were widely available for months.
I seen plenty at my local JB Hifi store with plenty of stock for at least 3 months.
As for games, it seems to be more of a push for digital despite figures stating that a lot of people still using DSL internet connection.(40-60% dependin who you believe.)
So really Artificial Scarcity is really nothing more tham mostly a myth.
@Lizuka Really? More than likely people that were unable to get said product give up on said product.
Also the SNES first run was really never that hard to get hold of I noticed plenty of stores had SNES Mini's on sales for weeks before being sold out.
Also I still find that there's plenty in stock today for both consoles.
so he SNES never really been that scarce in the first place, just really proves that there was really never was any Artificial scarcity in the first place.
@StevenG I not denying the idea to completely remove video out to be a silly idea, just that your solution to replace a piece of hardware with a simple software solution is not really feasible, especially on a system where every CPU clock cycle is counted for & every byte of ram counted for.
Displaylink would take up extra cpu clock cycles & extra ram & probably the ram is the component that takes an extra hit.
Plus I been reading up on the Displaylink technology since we started arguing about it & noticed another thing, it's also Dependent on the GPU as well, it it does not support Display link then it won't work. So also it might be hardware issue as well meaning if the Tegra chip inside the switch doesn't support Displaylink then it won't work.
Also I think if Nintendo were able to choose Displaylink instead of Displayport for the switch I imagine that there be an optional dock for the Switch lite. Something smaller to fit the console & built in rails for use with joycon charging. But as Nintendo choose a Displayport solution, then it menas the switch lite will never get video out at all.
@StevenG That may be the case but that doesn't excuse the fact that Nintendo still has to juggle a delicate balance just to ensure compatibility is not broken at all.
@StevenG I'm not defending Nintendo or anything, just saying that a simple alternate solution is not really as simple as it sounds. Displaylink is another piece of code running in the background.
The switch is not like Windows or Linux where you can ad any program in the background. The switch is carefully balanced between game performance & system feature.
Think about bluetooth headset that people been complaining sometime now. It's something that Nintendo should have supported at the beginning & to add it now it would means potential conflict with the existing audio subsystem. even games that don't need to use a bluetooth headset could have intermittent audio problems.
So pretty much it's much more difficult to add bluetooth headset support now than to have it at the beginning because Nintendo have to wrangle a delicate balance in software.
As you see I'm not really defending Nintendo just explaining that a apparent simple solution could easily add a host of compatibility problems.
@StevenG While I know realized what you meant. Even with Displaylink being a software solution, still means tinkering how the whole thing works. Its an extra background resource taking up extra memory & changing extra balance of things.
Don't forget Nintendo always been on compatibility & never risk something that could suddenly go haywire or reduce performance. Like playing DS games on a 3DS the CPU speeds underclocked to match the DS speeds & extra cores & gpu remain redundant in DS mode.
"squeeze in more RAM and a better CPU" Exempt really there's never been an official mention of it having faster CPU nor has there been any games that show of faster CPU. So really the DSi never really have a faster CPU.
In Fact I recently played Solatorobo, A game that some people quote online that it showed improved framerate on a couple of levels. Yet I tried it out on both my DS Lite & New 3DS & they both showed exact same slight hiccups in framerate.
Which shows that my 3DS underclocked itself to 66MHz/33MHz, not 111Mhz/60MHz, which means that the DSi only has 66Mhz/33MHz CPU chipset same as a DS.
@Aquamine-Amarine Um I think anime is basically Japanese for Cartoon more or less, just that we in the west adopted "Anime" to Describe these "Japanese Cartoons".
@Ooyah There are Smart fridges out there with many of them running Android OS. It's just a matter of logging into twitter via the web browser or even download the Twitter App from the google play store. Here we have here Nintendolife reviewing a previously unreleased PSP game in a more modern light & it shows within the first few sentences. Really is if fair to compare this game to other games the devoloper did even f most of them really never conceived until after this games original cancelation? No. Then why compare then like they are DMFD predisuccerrs when really they were in a since successors. Just like Duke Nukems forever been reviewed as a modern game instead of a late 90’s. Sure they both have flaws, but they are games that have late releases & should really be reviewed as such, not a modern games.
@Mogster a couple of reasons why these things are expensive. 1.) using expensive composts, usually FGPA chips to get it to work. And 2.) as it's produced by enthushist rather than a bigger corporation, meaning they only able afford smaller production run & as a result cost more per unit to produce as a result.
@IHateTombs sure a simple Web search shows that the concept exist but nothing really provides evidence that it works or don't work. Besides which most retailers I recently been to have ample supplies of NES & SNES mini's & it's been like that for months. That surely does not sound like artificial scarcity at work. That to me looks like Nintendo Learned a lesson after the nes mini kufuffle & fixed there supply issues ready for the launch of the snes mini & the nes mini rerelease.
So really it's more of a misjudgement of supply & demand rather than artificial scarcity.
@NewAdvent will explain to me how are you meant to make more money by selling less? If anything scarcity would losr interest & reduce sales as people give up finding the product in question.
Fun fact: the original gameCube version still retain code to make use of an unreleased 3D display attachment. So this 3DS port restore an unused feature.

I simply stock piled on anti law cards, & even if I didn't have the right anti-law card, I simply just wondered around the map a few steps until the annoying law disappeared & simply replaced with a law I can deal with.
So really it's really simple to deal with & it's also all written in the instruction manual.
The sequel Final Fantasy Tatics A2 I couldn't handle because there were no way to bypass the laws & many of the missions appeared to have rigged to have certain laws applied to it, which is way I gave up on it.
Anyway I loved this game & feel like playing it again.
