Here's the story you've all been waiting for, folks: Nintendo's official customer support has today shared a message regarding the dangers of pets urinating on your favourite consoles.
We can't quite believe it either, but in a world where products have to come with all sorts of ridiculous warnings just in case someone was silly enough to eat a lightbulb or something, it does kind of make sense. The warning comes from @nintendo_cs, Nintendo's official Japanese customer support service, and talks about keeping an eye on your pet in general.
Nintendo Soup has provided a translation:
“As pets have poor eyesight, your Nintendo Switch could turn into their toy! And by the time you know it, it’s too late… as your Nintendo Switch would have been soaked by your pet’s saliva or urine. Liquids like this could cause damage to the Nintendo Switch.
In addition, there’s also a chance your pet could bite cables (for the Nintendo Switch dock), causing disconnection. In any case, if you are taking care of a pet, please make sure your Nintendo Switch is in a safe place!
So there you have it. Just in case you weren't aware, having your beloved dog or cat relieve itself all over your Joy-Con probably isn't the best idea. Keep those Switches safe!

Wouldn't they rather have their stupider customers remain stupid so they can spend another $300 for a new console?
It's a win-win for the naughty dog too, because they can use the soiled Switch as a squeak toy, or maybe they secretly want to hate-play Pokémon Sword/Shield as well.
But... but.... my hamster was peeing on my Switch. 🤣
So in other words... I can't play pet simulators on my switch in case if they start peeing? Dangit!
By the way, does the pee warning count humans as well? I'm asking for a friend
They made the cartridges taste awful so pets wouldn't chew on them. Will the next Switch update enter an electric fence option to keep pets from peeing on it?
My childhood dog peed on my shoes and then ate them. I loved that dog.
Don't let your pets pee on Nintendo systems, people...
There's enough people crapping on Nintendo as it is
amirite, fellow NL readers? canned laughter
I waved my NX at my cats.
They seemed indifferent about it.
Wow interesting,I'll have to remove my Switch from the cats litter tray then.
@Wazeddie22 : Don't forget to refill it with fresh shovelware.
Pets peeing on the LABO is a bigger problem.
What is really amazing is that they never released this warning for the wii or wii u.
@patbacknitro18 That still won’t stop Ren.
From the comments, there’s lots of very young people on here. Of course, that’s absolutely expected and understandable, but I wish there was a filter to block under 18’s. This is absolutely not meant as a slight to anyone here & I love the comment section - but it would be great to somehow know I’m not talking to children..
@HobbitGamer I was waiting for someone to mention that, and you did not disapoint
I guess Nintendo Soup has poor eyesight, by that translation.
目を離していたら is 'when you take your eyes off [object]' / 'when you look away'.
'You take your eyes off your Nintendo Switch, and your pet starts playing with it! By the time you notice, it's already soaked with drool...
Pet saliva and urine can lead to faults from water damage. They can break cables by biting on them, too.
If you have a pet, make sure to watch where you leave your Switch.'
@andykara2003 Members could just lie about their age then. A filter wouldn't solve your issue, it would only make it more complicated.
@patbacknitro18 True - unfortunately I can’t see a way to implement it.
@Silly_G
Only the best shovelware for my cats.
@NoTinderLife
Another reason why it should be plastic.
That's some expensive kitty litter otherwise.
But don't worry folks, the Switch is pooh resistant as long as um, it's not liquid pooh.
Just in case someone hasn't said it already:
You know this Tweet happened because they got customer complaints about Switches breaking after animals peed on them...
Dogs and cats actually both have reasonably good eyesight (cats' vision is more acute and more colorful than dogs).
@TeslaChippie I am a cat and can testify to this.
My cat peed on my dualshock 1 back in the day. OMG, the smell was terrible even months later.
@bluesun Its very relevant - I have to hide all my electronics from my 6 month old retriever - he’s already chewed one of my switch controllers!
I just got a wee puppy on Tuesday night! So I will heed this advice, we have two Switch in our house!
@SquareOneMJ Nice! I have a drawer unit under the TV which has one drawer and one open space. I have most of my games and controllers in the drawer & the Switch & Wii U pushed right to the back of the open part. The PS4 is there too, but he doesn’t seem interested in that. Watch out for wires too - especially if they’re carrying mains! They’ll chew everything they can get hold of 😂
I'm expecting someone to make one of those potty pad things designed like a Switch now.
My cat likes to snack on cables. :3
So that’s what actually causes joycon drift.
"In addition, there’s also a chance your pet could bite cables (for the Nintendo Switch dock), causing disconnection. In any case, if you are taking care of a pet, please make sure your Nintendo Switch is in a safe place!"
Mr. Whiskers used BITE. It's super effective!
Nintendo Power has printed pet warnings a few times back in the day.
Including a full-page ad of a dog chewing someone's SMB3 cart.
"Maybe you should play with your dog more, too."
The thing is, a NES or GB (even GBA) cart has thick enough plastic it could at least survive dog bites. Sadly I've seen that if a dog bites a 3DS card, it's dead.
@martynstuff Brilliant comment. 😆
How many people actually have their consoles low enough for pets to piss on 'em?
@Tempestryke i aim to please!
@ThePrince003
Psst...
I was joking about my Switch. 🤣
Did you see i put 🤣 emoji ?
My Switch is fine.
I don't have hamster 😛
But my sibling's dog tends to peeing on random place inside my house.
@andykara2003 thank you for the advice!
@martynstuff not canned laughter, actual laughter! Very good 👍
I guess your pets are like HEY FOCUS ON ME! I think im right.
@Silly_G Except when they stat chewing through the lithium Ion batteries & have them burst into flames right in the mouth.
@Kawaiipikachu : No, that's okay. That'll cause them to evolve into Houndoom.
I’m assuming the service team has complained about some of the systems they had to repair.
yeah do they know the joy cons have been drifting for over 2 years?
This is just lovely!
