@MatthewTaranto @QueerAlpaca @pippin97 hello all of you!!! It's wonderful to see you here in the comments! I'm glad you all liked the piece, and congrats on the release <3
(oh, and Matthew, I loved BITF back in the day, so an extra big thank you for making something ELSE that brought me joy)
@Temporarybroccoli72 I do play the game, and have written most of the DDV guides on here.
You're right that some of those things were already in the game, but you don't need to be rude about it — I'm happy to make edits, and admit that I was wrong about some of the things. I may have gotten over-excited as a player since I haven't seen some of those things in my own game yet, especially since the clothing options are pretty hard to come by!
Anyway, I'll make those edits now. I'm not sure I agree that it's Frosted Heights, though — I think it's a strange composite of the Forest of Valor and Frosted Heights!
@FishyS Yeah! That's it, really - I just want to keep going back. Even though it's buggy and I've had three hard crashes and two total freezes. Something can be crappy and good at the same time!
@SalvorHardin That's not how journalism works, don't worry. I've just been having fun with Pokémon Scarlet and wanted to offer my thoughts that weren't entirely negative (although I've experienced plenty of bugs myself, and I'm really sad about the game's towns being so boring!)
The world would be quite dull if we were only allowed to feel one way about a game. We contain multitudes
@Kiyata we've written pretty extensively on our thoughts, and we're all different people, so we have different takes. Some of us aren't impressed at all, some of us are having fun despite the issues, and some of us just wish that Game Freak had released something less slapdash. Our opinion isn't a unanimous, solid thing — it changes over time, and it is made of many parts. It's not an all-or-nothing thing, and we're not trying to convince you to buy it or play it, just to let you know our thoughts so you can make an informed decision.
Personally, I think the game is unforgivably janky, but I see ideas within it that I love. I've written positive and negative pieces to show that balance!
Pals, it is **literally** one of the slowest news days of the year — all of the US is off, including some of our staff! We're just having a bit of fun with stories like this. You can always not click on it
@Nanami_Ataraxi you'll be fine, the game is very lenient about letting you retry things. I would recommend looking up a Free Time guide for Danganronpa, once you've gotten used to the game
@Nanami_Ataraxi there are a couple of tricky-ish QTEs in AI: The Somnium Files, and some of the Somnium puzzles (where you go into someone's dreams) can be really... bizarre. The solutions are not always easy to figure out!
However, the game will let you reset and retry, so it's not too bad. I never got completely stuck.
@Itakiteacher Ooh, that's close to me! It's nice to see fellow Nova Scotia folks in here! There's not a lot of game stuff in NS yet, so I'm glad to see you all exist
@Nintendofan83 I'm in Halifax, somewhere in the North End! Were you at Dal or one of the others? I've not been here long (two years now) so I'm still learning a lot of things
@FroZtedFlake I loved it, and it has some neat tricks, like being able to skip areas with new items, and the map thing where you have to transfer the seal — so goooood!
@Maulbert that may have been influenced by my personal dislike of the MM dungeons, Stone Tower Temple in particular... BUT it's still one of my favourite Zelda games!
@JohnnyC we had a loooong discussion on whether Hyrule Castle counts as a dungeon. It's sort of a stealth-ish explore-ish thing without a concrete approach, since you can just catapult yourself straight to Ganon if you want, so we decided it wasn't!
The elephant was on our shortlist, but got booted out in favour of ones we liked more
1. The list is in reverse order, my bad! I was sick last week and my brain was not working properly. Bridge to the Turnabout should be #1 and Time Traveler is #10 😅 I'll fix that.
2. It turns out that a lot of lists out there are exactly what you'd expect — they're heavily biased towards the OG trilogy, and they include Rise From The Ashes in the top ten. If you want one of those lists, they exist! We wanted to mix it up a little and include some of our favourite cases, even if they're not necessarily everyone's favourites.
@Drew250 you're dang right, it's a creative paradise in a lot of ways! The comics scene here is strong, but the game dev scene is slowly building up. TUNIC was made here, too
@Jadamson929 that is incredibly kind of you to say! I'm having a rough weekend because I'm sick but your nice comment has made it a little bit better 😊
@Thomystic that's extremely kind of you! I love writing things like this — the longform, investigative kind — but it is quite exhausting, and a LOT of work, hence why it's not a weekly thing 😅 I hope people understand that writing the fluffy stuff is what keeps me sane!
@Rambler Yes! I was sad not to get to dive more into the bias inherent in AI art, but I let the interviews lead me in this piece (and it was already hella long), and what we mostly ended up talking about was the copyright issues! Maybe a future piece focusing on the bias would be really interesting, when I've recovered from this one 😅
@TotalHenshin This month I've been experimenting with the format a little bit! Instead of a poll, I asked people to drop suggestions in the comments — that gave me a lot more games to pick from. Buuuuut I can add in more general polls, like "are you playing along?" if that's what you mean!
@Anachronism It was my first choice, actually.... buuuuut writing a whole article about it means you have to listen to it a LOT. So I need a bit of a break from Fairy Fountain
@FishyS my money is on the Marvel and Star Wars guys making it to the game sooner or later — they're adding more properties on a regular basis. How weird is that??
@Dogorilla I reaaally like the writing. Way more than I thought I would. It is funny, without being saccharine or overly Disneyfied, and I actually get to be kinda mean (in a lighthearted way) to Disney characters, which I am surprised by. I would have thought Disney would veto that!!
