Re: Random: What's The Music On The Chalkboard In Animal Crossing: New Horizons?

@ISeven I've added more information in the article. This was the last thing I wrote at the very end of my work day last week, so it was a little light on information, and I apologise!

It's certainly not up to my usual standard, but as I said... it was the last thing I wrote on a Friday afternoon, so I hope you can grant me a little leeway for that 😅

Re: How To Redownload Games From The 3DS eShop - Downloading Digital Games You Already Own

KateGray

@delspencerdeltorro That's a good question.

Updates that include free DLC will be available to download for free "for the foreseeable future". Same deal for paid DLC that you already own.

Your DLC is tied to whichever Nintendo account you used to buy it from the 3DS eShop, so you can sign in again on a new 3DS and you should be able to redownload it. But if you get it fixed, that will work too!

However, I think you won't be able to buy new DLC from the eShop after March 2023.

@Troll_Decimator in terms of being able to date people, yeah, I think it makes a difference

@GerBearNy people fighting in the comments is not my fault, and it's pretty unfair to try to hold writers responsible for the way some people behave in here - we're certainly never trying to make anyone angry, because why would we want to deal with that?

I'm just doing my job, highlighting games that people should download, not stoking the fanboy fires on purpose.

@CANOEberry Tale of Two Towns and Trio of Towns are both pretty good, although the mining in both games sucks — Trio of Towns is especially interesting because it has three towns (duh), each of which is themed — a Western one, a Japanese one, and a tropical one.

I liked A New Beginning, but it is VERY slow — you have to unlock all the town buildings yourself and it takes a long time. I also vaguely remember having to rely on the online multiplayer to get a lot of rare items that took ages to get.

Friends of Mineral Town (and More Friends of Mineral Town) is great, but I really think the Switch remake is the best way to play it!

I think going from Stardew to some of the older games will be a bit of a stark difference, so I leave that decision up to you — they don't include a lot of the modcons of the later games, like dating and easy access to shops. Also apparently HM3 ends when you get married, if you choose to play as a girl, which SUCKS

Re: Soapbox: NSO Isn't Game Pass, But Nintendo Is Learning The Benefits Of Subscription Models

KateGray

@MS7000 Not everyone plays games in the same way! A lot of people, myself included, want access to a wide range of things that they can dabble in. If I only had $30 a month to spend on games, Game Pass is a better value proposition than... half a full-priced AAA game.

Besides, subscription services aren't an either/or. I still buy games all the time... it's just that I can also dip my toes into Sea of Thieves or Crusader Kings whenever I like without forking out huge amounts of money to find out that I don't like them.

Re: Talking Point: A Poképro And A Pokénoob Discuss Pokémon Legends: Arceus

@Rosona Again, I wasn't being unkind to Dragon Quest 11. The fact that the games are designed for busy, stressed workers to unwind with is not necessarily a negative thing.

I have a busy, stressful life, and even though I work in games, I don't always have the mental energy for a game that asks me to invest a lot of thought and energy into it in order to enjoy it. A game, like PLA and DQ11, can be good and accessible to people like me with frazzled nerves — specifically when exploring the open world and doing side quests. Low stakes moments in a game are good for winding down from a difficult day at work.

And I do like PLA, quite a lot actually — I'm not sure where you got the idea that I didn't. I am just cautious about recommending it to friends who aren't already Pokémon fans, as I would be with any Pokémon game.

I understand that you disagree with me, but you've read quite a lot of feelings into my answers that just weren't there, and now you're writing angry comments to me for things I didn't say. Being a fan of a game does not mean being uncritical of it. Enjoying a game for its simplicity does not mean that the game is bad, or that it is not challenging in other ways. People play games differently, and that doesn't mean they are wrong.

Re: Talking Point: A Poképro And A Pokénoob Discuss Pokémon Legends: Arceus

KateGray

@eleven you're reading a negative connotation into something I said in a positive way.

Not everyone enjoys games in the same way — I like to play through PLA in my own way, which sometimes involves gentle grinding through the Pokédex while I listen to an audiobook. I particularly enjoy doing that when I'm having a stressful time, which I am right now, because it allows me to completely turn my brain off. I am glad that a game can offer that to me.

It's like the difference between watching a thriller and a Disney musical: Both are worthwhile and made by talented artists, but one requires much more active thought, and the other is like a balm for your brain. That doesn't make it less worthy.
