I love Zelda mainly due to the world and atmosphere but something about Skyward Sword (and Twilight Princess) just immediately makes me not want to play it. I can’t figure out what it is. I played the original Wii versions of both of those titles for about an hour each. That is my own fault but I was just put off - maybe it was just the wrong time in my life. I’m hoping this time around I will get properly into Skyward Sword. The Amiibo thing is 100% BS though. I hope they correct that down the line.
3DS and Wii U still representing to be honest. Finished Metroid Zero Mission on Wii U and Zelda: Minish Cap on 3DS within the last couple of weeks.
NSO is terrible in my opinion. And it’s not a case of subscription vs individual purchases. It’s just a case of NES and SNES being overdone by this point and a massive step back from what the previous consoles offered.
@NEStalgia that is a shame as I only really had time to play all the way through VIII because I was playing it handheld. Also love having the cartridge for these. Thanks for the heads up though. I have spent so much lately but I still want this before it’s hard to find lol.
Ys VIII was incredible in a lot of ways. Beautiful setting and music. The ending wasn’t my favourite but otherwise a great experience. It wasn’t the smoothest thing on the Switch but it was serviceable. If IX is similar to VIII then that is fine by me.
@Friendly I have played Metroid, Super, Fusion, Prime and Echoes and realised I had never finished a single one.
So decided to start from the beginning. After Samus Returns i’ll try and go through Super and the I have Fusion as a 3DS ambassador. And then all set for Dread really! I love Metroidvanias but realised I kinda of erred on the side of Vania rather than Metroid.
I have to say; I do wish the storytelling was a little bit better. It seems like a lot of the story was in the manual for Zero Mission; and I played it on Wii U so yea.
Yup I just bought and played through Zero Mission for the first time and loved it. Just bought Samus Returns (which was a nightmare to find in the UK) for 3DS too!
For those dismissing Forza Horizon I highly suggest you try playing them. I don’t play racing games (except Mario Kart) but the Forza Horizon series is the exception. They are incredible free-roam experiences. A lot of fun and great gameplay. Not just going in circles around a track.
Xbox definitely was the best but Nintendo of course was 2nd. I was satisfied with Xbox; Nintendo I thought was missing… something. Maybe a WW/TP pack or something.
Thats actually a genuine shame. Was hoping to reunite with some friends over this game. I’m always suspicious when I see 4 player local co-op in the description these days. There is usually a catch.
Got this coming from LRG as I heard it’s perhaps the best VN ever and I don’t really play VNs. So this might be a fun place to start.
Edit: thinking about it... I suppose those memory sequences in Lost Odyssey were like small visual novels. And wow were they effective. Feel like revisiting them actually.
@Prizm yup this has always been my concern with any game that relies on anything but standard controls. Surely someone at Nintendo could have forseen this? They should always have included a standard option in my opinion. Even if it wasn't the “best” way to play at the time.
Despite most people here I actually have faith in this. Illumination isn’t that bad even if they’re no Pixar. Their style fits the Mushroom Kingdom I would say. And with Nintendo’s IPs it’s a wonder it has taken them this long to go down the big budget film route. I can see maybe follow ups with Donkey Kong and Splatoon over TLOZ.
I really like that shadowbox. Especially as they are doing one for Doom as well. But I just can’t bring myself to spend that much. Shame as those 2 are the only LRG collector’s editions I have really wanted and they’re just way too much. If they were at the $80 mark each I probably would have gone for it.
I want to play these. I dont mind starting with TOCS but I want to start with the first. Preferably on Xbox, but since that isn’t happening yet then Switch; but if course the first 2 aren’t there yet. I want to get 3 and 4 before they become hard to find but like... they’re just going to be sitting there until I play through 1 and 2.
But I am intrigued by this series. I was saying recently how I love Kingdom Hearts and Yakuza due to their ongoing, serialised storytelling. This sounds like my kind of thing. But wasteful cutscenes and annoying teen characters might ruin it.
The only thing with this is that Xbox said one of their reasons for buying Zenimax was to provide exclusives. Would be weird to then spread the love to Nintendo with things like Rare Replay etc any further than they already have (e.g. with Ori).
But then they made the statement of games coming to wherever Gamepass is. So yea.
I played through this on Xbox but haven’t quite finished it yet. There are some annoying difficulty spikes but as a game it is a good homage to the first 2 Paper Marios. Not sure I can justify this purchase but for those that can, i’m sure you will enjoy it
As an Xbox fan i’m happy with their recent acquisitions but the one company I don’t want anyone to touch is Square Enix. Xbox definitely needs some more SE love, but I don’t want their games to stop coming to Nintendo consoles. I’m hoping Gamepass will change the attitude of Japanese developers towards Xbox for the better.
Sony just annoys me since they pay for timed exclusivity on almost all of SE’s games; but they do have a legacy with them as well so the games should be shared with everyone
At least if it’s Microsoft there is a good chance the games will still be on Nintendo. If it’s Sony then rip.
@Beatrice There are a couple of things I want from Play Asia but i’m worried about import fees to. I’m in the UK. Do you remember how much yours were %-wise?
@FX102A recently discovered that awesome site. Will be getting Legend of Mana from either there or 365 games if they stock it.
Now I don’t know whether to get the LRG releases or not! Great. Much rather a double pack like this; but in english. All these stupid limited print companies and regional variations... it gets so confusing (and expensive).
@Old-Red i’m hovering over the buy button for 3 on switch, worried that it will soon be sold out everywhere. But yea sucks I can’t enjoy it until 1 and 2 are out. Though I heard they are getting a Japanese port so there is hope!
Also as soon as I buy them; Microsoft will announce all 4 are hitting Gamepass. So yea.
@Mince wierdly I love my JRPGs. Microsoft definitely doesn’t have anywhere near the amount that PS and Nintendo have, but they have almost all the big ones; and they are making the shift to getting more and more (e.g. Kingdom Hearts, Yakuza, Octopath). I actually think they are breaking barriers with Japan at the moment and hopefully they will be able to get some more on the system.
No idea what is happening with Square Enix though in that regard. In one corner they are wacking everything on Gamepass. And then at the same time signing exclusivity deals with Sony.
With Western RPGs Microsoft is all good on that front and should be the strongest console for them going forward.
@Mince it’s not just words though. Xbox has been upgrading older games for years; e.g allowing RDR and FFXIII a upscaled resolution boost on the Xbox One X. They have actually put their money where their mouth is.
So many people here trashing Microsoft. If you actually tried their ecosystem you might be pleasantly surprised.
And no taking games off gamepass doesn’t delete them out of existence. If anything, Gamepass is allowing indie devs a headstart with cashflow to keep them in the game longer.
The only thing Microsoft doesn’t do very well is physical games; but with patches etc unfortunately physical is worth less and less. And i’m saying that as someone who loves cartridges and buys physical on switch.
Also any game I downloaded when I first got my 360 in Jan 2006, I can still play today; most of them (but not all) on my Series X.
I don’t mind Limited Run that much - it’s cool to see what they are offering now and then. However the issue is the delivery and potential import fees for those outside the US. If they had a UK subsidiary; I would be all over that.
I don’t mind lack of folders as I have my games listed by order of time played; which I really like. But if they had the activity log I wouldn’t need to do that. Activity Log please!
I tried Tri and I tried World and I just can’t get into these games. Good for those that can though. I feel like this might be the biggest name franchise that I just don’t... get.
I Am Setsuna (english cover) Lost Sphear, Bravely Default 2, Dragon Quest 1-3 (english cover), and Octopath Traveler. Was looking into getting the two Mana games on cart too.
Shame Star Ocean doesn’t have a physical but I think I might just have to get it for the backlog anyway. Funny as I much prefer digital on every other system; but have a thing for cartridges.
@Gamer83 Yakuza Like A Dragon was far and away my favourite game of 2020 (My launch game for Series X). If you can get through the first couple of chapters then it becomes possibly the best in the series (neck and neck with 0 in my opinion). I went for the full 1000gs Enjoy!
As for me it’s Dragon Quest XI on Series X; so close to the end now. Plus I bought a whole bunch of Physical Switch games to add to my backlog.
@Imerion you would still have access to any games you buy beyond the most extreme exceptions. I can still play the XBLA arcade games I bought for 400 microsoft points back in 2006. Gamepass doesn’t take away from that at all.
@BloodNinja well every single game on Gamepass, you can purchase without needing Gamepass. It would be wierd if Bethesda games were an exception to that? I mean look we never know what is going to happen in the future. Nintendo could go all streaming (unlikely). But let’s just hope there is a purchase option too. I’m not going to go round asking people what they really mean with their comments - I just wanted to clarify to anyone reading so that they are not misinformed.
@GrailUK he said they had’t decided yet and it will be a case by case basis - the reason he said that was that everyone was harassing him for a comment on exclusivity. They probably hadn’t decided yet.
@thelightspirit @BloodNinja it’s coming out on a platform that HAS a games as a service in addition to being able to buy the games as you would now. I see this so often; people say they don’t want to rent their games, whatever - but being on Gamepass doesn’t mean you can’t still just buy the game instead. Just won’t be on Switch or PS.
Sometimes I don’t know if these comments are just jokes but yea.
I feel like it will be 2 full price releases;
Wind Waker Trilogy with WW, PH and ST
Second Trilogy with OoT, MM and TP
Thats if it happens at all. I’m not the biggest fan of Breath of the Wild so would like them to release an original style Zelda for the Switch at some point. Re: Review: Ys IX: Monstrum Nox - A Fine Action-RPG With Performance Issues On Switch
Ys VIII was incredible in a lot of ways. Beautiful setting and music. The ending wasn’t my favourite but otherwise a great experience. It wasn’t the smoothest thing on the Switch but it was serviceable. If IX is similar to VIII then that is fine by me.

Played the demo for this last E3 on Xbox and it was terrible. However it was possibly Alpha. Hopefully it has improved a lot since the idea is cool.

Re: Baldo: The Guardian Owls Gets Gorgeous New Footage, Still Slated For Switch 'Soon'

Also looks good but wish the character would move a bit quicker.

Re: Rodea The Sky Soldier Is Being Removed From The Wii U And 3DS eShops In Japan

On Xbox, if something is delisted and you don’t have it downloaded... you can still redownload it. It is in your library. I have done this quite a few times with random games (recently the Forza Horizon Presents Fast and Furious game). In fact Microsoft announced it was delisting Forza Horizon 3, so everyone rushed to buy it to add it to their library; because then they have access to it despite the delisting.
Having said that - I have lost access to one thing on Xbox (out of 600 digital games) and that was the fifth episode of Telltale’s Guardians of the Galaxy game. I think I just never activated it in anyway even though I did have the season pass, so that was wierd. What happened with Telltale was wierd but it was the exception.
Also sure Nintendo doesn’t have a great account system so maybe with Nintendo if you don’t have it downloaded you lose access to it. But on Xbox you still do.
