@IronMan30 i’ve noticed that too. NL will usually mention all the platforms a game is being released on but the way PS reports it’s like the others don’t exist.
Xbox getting snubbed again upsets me. I feel like Square-Enix loves to annoy someone with each release.
@Would_you_kindly yea you are right; these are barebones details. But i’m sure somewhere in there it probably says “a minimum of 2 (or 3) releases in a 10 year time span”. Would be interesting if it was just legacy titles or newer campaigns or multiplayer or what…
This is hilarious and an absolute checkmate against Sony. They now essentially have to accept or risk getting left without any deal; whilst Microsoft fulfils its promise to keep COD on multiple platforms (Nintendo/Steam and all the Xbox stores… and I assume the random mobile games that come out too). Word up son.
This should never happen outside of Spartacus (since that had good reason). Liam should play a new character. I really dislike recasting; just ruins it for me.
I haven’t actually watched this show yet but it was on the list. Now…. not so much unfortunately.
If Xbox funds a Gamepass release I think Square will abide. They wouldn’t care too much about numbers if they get a big fat upfront cheque from Microsoft. Of course there may be extra income if they achieve certain engagement milestones but who knows. Maybe it was actually Xbox that decided it wasn’t worth getting the sequel on the platform. Personally I couldn’t get into Octopath but it’s a shame if true as they really should be taking the hit and pushing for more JRPGs on their platform. I think they are giving up again.
As these games always sell better on PS and Nintendo; I think Xbox should just make their own exclusive JRPG series (easier said than done) like Lost Odyssey/Blue Dragon etc.
@steventonysmith @SuperPotato316 on the other hand I have played Crisis Core and think its a really good game with an extremely strong and emotional story. And I think it’s absolutely worth the time of any Final Fantasy fan.
@a_brave_new_geek I would also recommend Dragon Quest XI S. After the first couple hours, I loved the game so much. Definitely one of the best JRPGs I have ever played; but with modern gameplay. But for some reason those first couple hours (basically the prologue) didn’t grab me until I pushed through.
Also amazing soundtrack and beautiful visuals (I played it on Series X so no idea about Switch).
@Tremblucay Yea I have bought a good few in the past and am just over them completely. Most just aren’t worth it at all. I just put those funds towards another game now.
If it is the one series you love more than any other then I feel for those who missed out. But it will most likely just sit there taking up space.
Also I hate scalpers. No one should buy from them.
@DK-Fan not really BS, just sharing an idea in the form of a comment. No idea what you’re on about in your last paragraph. I have seen people admit that they didn’t realise the Wii U was a new console and thought it was a peripheral/add-on for the Wii. So not a myth. Obviously we are the sort of people that visit gaming websites and are pretty clued up so it may not apply to us - but if your average mother who knows nothing about gaming is out shopping they could very easily get confused. Is that really so hard to believe? That is the casual crowd, which was the same crowd that boosted the sales of the Wii. Also lol to me being a Nintendo fanboy haha!
Also I know it didn’t happen with the Playstation as they sequentially number the consoles - you just agreed with me.
@wonderclassic Exactly and i’m sure that hurt Xbox to an extent. They just didn’t want to be releasing the Xbox 2 when Sony was releasing the Playstation 3. A cycle that would have carried on forever leaving Xbox one behind. Sony numbers its consoles - it’s the most boring route but at least consumers can see clearly when the next console is out.
A lot of the problem comes from the name. Wii ‘U’ and ‘3’DS caused confusion amongst consumers as to whether they were actually a new system or just a variation. It’s all in the marketing though!
But also the Wii and DS hit the casual markets like no other, with Brain Training and Wii Sports leading the charge. Hard to follow up - though they managed it with the Switch.
I used to love the silver Pal Gamecube cases. The budget lines are fine to be honest. Not that it matters to me anymore as I own pretty much all the first party releases on Switch. I have issues.
@Varkster haha yup sounds about right. My sister borrowed my 3DS and Animal Crossing all those years ago, and it’s still at the top of my time played charts because she just left it on.
I feel like i’m missing something with this. Haven’t these games been re-released a lot?
I have them all backwards compatible on Series X (inc. Sonic 3 and Sonic CD) but other than that, if we are talking Switch; aren’t most in collections anyway on all platforms? Glad people are excited though; especially if the price is right.
@majinx07 possibly Gameboy and GBC to regular and then GBA to expansion? Which would suck because I only really want GBA.
Also I love how pirating always comes up in the comments as if people aren’t already aware you can do that. Sometimes it’s nice to play a Nintendo game on a Nintendo console officially. Just saying.
The star wars games got full retail releases afterwards. And there was one game that LRG got exclusive rights to the english language version too - to stop imports (e.g. from Play-Asia). Their products are cool sometimes but they are happy to con people.
I for one will be extremely excited for this nearer the release. I love the whole franchise since I played the first one on my 12th birthday on PS2. Incredible series (3 is still good too despite lack of story).
That gameplay looks absolutely wild!
@Fizza I get your point and it definitely looks out of place; but there is every chance this is just one world of many.
I made a post on reddit recently with my recent 3DS game pickups and realised that my Link Between Worlds classics was a thinner case. Wasn’t sure the reason but now I get it.
I also wondered how these online retailers were getting so much stock of things like Majoras Mask, Dragon Quest and Metroid replenished. Snatched them all up! Hardest to get was probably Bowser’s Inside Story but eventually that went back in stock too.
I went on a physical binge and picked up:
Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam Bros/Bowsers Inside Story/Superstar Saga
Zelda: Majoras Mask & Link Between Worlds (classic edition)
Dragon Quest VII and VIII
Metroid Samus Returns
Fire Emblem Shadows of Valencia
Pokemon Ultra Moon
Warioware Gold
All recently in stock brand new in the UK. Only Link Between Worlds was the thin case. All were red strip sealed; except Majoras Mask which is sealed but no strip?
For those in the UK that are interested: best two places are Base.com and 365Games. 365Games was better because it gives reward points but in the last couple weeks it’s gone weird, upped its prices and is swamped with NTSC games; and since the 3DS isn’t region free that doesn’t help.
Also 365games send each game separately. So if you order 5 games you have to explain 5 packages to the wife. It makes no sense and it maketh me shooketh.
It’s a shame - I actually looked forward to it each year and enjoyed the showcases I watched. Felt like an event and even if it wasn’t always mindblowing; it was still cool and I always knew at least something would interest me.
Cool for those in the industry too to spend time together and meet eachother etc. At least Microsoft should be big enough to host something with all it’s teams, Zenimax and ActiBlizz.
I would love a “Gamecube for Switch” retail line - in the same Switch boxes but Indigo instead of Red branding. And they can mostly be just modest remasters (almost ports) on the cartridge. I would be happy with that;
@NintendoWife was just looking at the Wikipedia release timeline myself and had the same thoughts. 6 years between the BOTW games but with Link’s Awakening in the middle which felt new even though it wasn’t.
Crazy how between 1998-2002 we had Ocarina, Majora AND Wind Waker (as well as the Oracle games but obviously different developer).
Retail:
1) Breath of the Wild
2) Wind Waker HD
3) Twilight Princess HD
4) Hyrule Warriors
Virtual Console:
5) The Legend of Zelda
6) Zelda II
7) Link to the Past
8) Ocarina of Time
9) Majoras Mask
10) Minish Cap
11) Phantom Hourglass
12) Spirit Tracks
@BadBoyBule I will definitely check this out - thanks! Though admittedly I have no attachment to that game. I secretly enjoyed Sonic R. But will check these out regardless.
@Ryu_Niiyama Halo Infinite; Forza Horizon 5; Psychonauts 2; Flight Sim Series X and Deathloop (and Age of Empires 4 as you mentioned). Extremely strong lineup.
@RubyCarbuncle yea the music is beautiful and it’s still a good looking game to this day. FFXIII-2 actually looks worse. I will try Lightning Returns at some point. And yea hate the time travel mechanic!
@RubyCarbuncle I loved 13. Currently playing through XIII-2 on series X (my same save file from 2012 or whenever it was released) and finding it such a slog. Exploration is good when it’s done well but it’s not always done well. I feel like there is a place for both types.

Re: Mini Metro Copycat Game Has Been Removed From Switch eShop
@abdias no because as the article says, this wasn’t just an inspiration or a game in the same genre. This was pretty much a straight copy and paste.

@Specter_of-the_OLED to be fair the Wii U had:
Retail:
1) Breath of the Wild
2) Wind Waker HD
3) Twilight Princess HD
4) Hyrule Warriors
Virtual Console:
5) The Legend of Zelda
6) Zelda II
7) Link to the Past
8) Ocarina of Time
9) Majoras Mask
10) Minish Cap
11) Phantom Hourglass
12) Spirit Tracks
In addition to…
Backwards Compatibility:
13) Skyward Sword, Twilight Princess (again), Link’s Crossbow Training
So hasn’t stopped them before!
