Re: Review: Chocobo GP - A Surprising Mario Kart 8 Alternative For Final Fantasy Fans

@Einherjar Yea I understand. Sometimes games can be completed and then the DLC is worked on before it officially launches so it can seem like the game was incomplete when it wasn’t… and sometimes there is a cashgrab. I’m not arguing that this isn’t a cashgrab lol. Just funny seeing the comments; out of context they could be applied to so many different games that people still happily buy.

But yea a Battle Pass is so much different to a Season Pass; in gaming terms; so I feel like the wrong terminology has been used.

I completely agree though regarding the quality of something like Mario Kart’s initial release. And how this differs from that.

Everyone talking about having to buy a game and a season pass; forgetting that Mario Kart is actually in that position for the full content. Lots of games are.

However; yes this is more of a “battle” pass than a season pass (relative to what other games offer); which sucks. And looks like they are hiding the best characters behind it?

But otherwise nothing wrong with a game offering more paid content on top of it’s initial cost. Literally you could copy and paste a lot of these comments onto a Mario Kart article.

@mariomaster96 you say this, but when Metroid Dread was shown at E3 last year. Metroid games on the eshops shot up the charts. Not sure how many they sold exactly; but they sold because they were much cheaper than hunting down a physical copy. That could easily happen again with other franchises (e.g. if they announced another Mario & Luigi or FZero). I think it’s a shame though of course not surprised in the slightest.

Nintendo pioneered backwards compatibility back in the day. It really sucks they don’t have a way to carry forward your purchases. My disappointment with all this; is that the Wii U is a flimsy toy. It’s a great system and yea last week I downloaded Wind Waker HD and last year I got Zero Mission. But the screen on my gamepad is actually crap. Bottom left doesn’t work at all. So one day this is all going to fail.

Like Xbox; Nintendo needs to have a system that supports these games being carried forward. I really hope the Switch’s successor allows for this. Also NSO sucks compared to the Virtual Console. Not because it’s a subscription service but because its content is extremely lacking.

Meanwhile the Xbox 360 store is sitting there strong. My 2008 HD copy of Banjo Kazooie (that I got free with Nuts and Bolts) is there ready for me to download on 360, Xbox One or my Series X - all with the same save file. Or for those that don’t want to buy it it’s on Gamepass and I believe on Xcloud (it’s also included in Rare Replay; quite often for £5. Choice is good). It’s not hard - Nintendo just refuses to offer this to it’s customers.

This really sucks due to lack of Virtual Console on Switch. If it was all there; I wouldn’t care so much.

@NinChocolate Activision have ignored a lot of their old IPs and Phil Spencer said he would be keen on bringing them back. It’s not impossible, and I think other companies can see the worth in their IPs. It’s just Konami that can’t. Even just remasters at this point would go a long way (Suikoden and Metal Gear for example - Castlevania is slowly getting ported).

It really depends who they are bought out by (someone in the video game industry vs a party that isn’t).

Re: Soapbox: Dear Konami, Please Do Something Decent With Castlevania

@Medic_Alert oh I understand and appreciate that. My point was more; if Konami was purchased by one of the big 3, I feel like no one could really complain as it kind of needs to happen for these IP to ever see the light of day again (in a serious capacity). Hypothetical of course; I know it’s never that easy.

Shame NintendoLife is so against acquisitions as Konami getting acquired by… (almost) anyone could only make them better right? This company is ripe for the picking* and they have incredible IP being absolutely wasted. Microsoft or Sony (or Nintendo) would absolutely put the IP to use. Let’s just hope this happens before the outside tech giants get their hands on them.

@Anti-Matter Xbox just added Paw Patrol, Ben 10 and Race with Ryan to Gamepass this week. Just saying!

On another note - I just played through Spongebob Truth or Square on my Series X backwards compatibility and it was a very fun game that made me miss these sort of Gen 6 licensed platformers.

I think you have it in your head that Microsoft is bad and they hate casuals but they really don’t.

Back to the topic of Kinect - Rare made some great Kinect games with Kinect Sports. They actually worked really well. I still have my Kinect - it’s cool it’s just long to set up and clear space for.

At the risk of upsetting Uptownsoul, I do think this is mainly down to Sony money. Yes the team is small and hit the big-time all at once so of course this factors in. But with all that cash they can arrange for more employees to come in and handle the other platform versions. Not to mention the Epic money/manpower. They should really want to get on Xbox and Switch while the game is still hot. It was good fun on PS Plus - would love to see it come to other platforms sooner rather than later.
