Re: Hands On: Searching for Clues in Detective Pikachu: Birth of a New Duo

Joenen

That's basically the impression I got from the trailer.

there's something adorable and charming about mature pikachu. And I'm glad to hear that that feeling conveyed in the trailer wasn't a chance accident but the actual feeling of the game.

I'll pick this up. If it comes over to the US. Being short is unfortunate maybe, but if price reflects that no complaints.

Re: GameStop Survey Suggests We'll See Nintendo NX Within The Next 12 Months

Joenen

I like being informed but even I am a bit tired of these very empty-feeling NX articles. A lot of speculation that just doesn't feel substantiated.

A little more journalistic discretion would be appreciated...I mean really I know no more about when the NX is launching than before I clicked the article. In fact I knew exactly the same amount of information as before clicking the article as after. =/

Re: Did You Know Gaming Explores Mario & Religion

Joenen

huh, interesting I guess about Mariio 3 and Dante's Lucifer making it into Super Paper Mario.

Dry bones feels a bit of a stretch. Otherwise it's interesting what happens when you actually take the time to look up what names mean and where they come from / what they reference.

That last bit though has nothing to do with game content =/

Re: Random: Take a Look at These Unused Alternate Sonic Boom Logos

Joenen

Sonic team isn't even doing boom, don't know why they're being brought up here. Boom is more or less fine. I don't like how stupid knuckles is but otherwise the show and games are ok for what they are, with the 3DS game being superior as a sonic title.

Sonic 06 is still the most infamously bad sonic game ever. Rock bottom was hit long ago, but at least everything since has been "better". I can't speak for the Wii U version of boom of course having not played it, but the 3DS version wasn't really bad, just a tad boring at times.

Re: Pokkén Tournament Modes and Details Emerge

Joenen

Glad LAN mode is in. This let's tourney's happen.

Sad that the local mode suffers a bit but I'm glad taht actuallly exists given the type of game pokken is. I wonder if an NX version would be powerful enough to rendor everything perfectly? Or at least let you use gamepad as only a screen and not screen + controller.

Very excited to get this.

Re: Editorial: Let's Make 2016 a Year of Nintendo Optimism

Joenen

Xenoblade, Mario maker, and splatoon , are all among the best games in the Wii U library, and it's a shame we couldn't fill the first half of the year with more titles like these.

That being said, 2015 ends on a positive note for me. and it's not like I stopped playing smash brothers.

2016 has potential to be great and it's fun having that bit of optimism last for a while.

Re: Analysis: Assessing Why NX Needs to Take Over From Both the Wii U and 3DS

Joenen

@rjejr When the entire exchange is down, that means either very large companies, or most companies in general, are down. There are a ton of possible reasons as to why a company's stock might be up or down on any given day, but just because there's a bad day on the stock market for most companies, or just really big companies, doesn't automatically mean all companies are having a bad day at the market.

As for the article itself, financial investors are doing exactly what you'd expect them to do. I find it strange to be complaining about Nintendo's /share price/ being down of all things. If you're gonna discuss things like stock price fluctuations, I would've expected a more technical analysis.

Re: There's a New Yu-Gi-Oh! Game on the Way to 3DS this Summer

Joenen

We don't know anything about the games, nor do we know if the original cast comes back for it.

Of course chances are high, and the new movie featuring the original cast comes out in a few months in Japan, so we'll see I guess.

Hopefully the mobile game will be better than konami's precious endeavors with yugioh mobile / net yugioh games.

The latest one for PS4 is really good, here's hoping they actually release a game dedicated to having a solid, up to date experience.

Favorite one? Hmm to be honest false bound kingdom for the GameCube had me and my bros playing for a long while. Also wheelie breakers on Wii was funner than it probably should have been. Haha.

Re: Pokkén Tournament Will Feature 2-Player Local Multiplayer

Joenen

@greengecko007

Ah. Didn't see it in this article but it does appear on serebii.

thats unfortunate that they outright said that. Smash brothers lets you use any controller you want even when you use the game pad as a screen so I don't see why prgrammere for this game couldn't do the same.

Doesn't kill the game for me at all since there's not much a difference in controllers for me between classic and game pad, and I've never taken to sticks. It's just irksome that it's already been done before elsewhere yet not here. Hopefully someone pokes them about it.

serebii does flub single words somewhat frequently from what I hear, but it's hard to mess up an entire sentence like this. Though it's important to note that the site specifies HORI controllers according to Serebii. Unless they're only listing HORI as an example, technically other controller options may be available.

Re: Piranha Pit is Heading to Splatoon Very Soon

Joenen

Just came back home and can finally play Wii U again but sad that the updates are coming to an end.

It was always enjoyable seeing how the new updates would change up the game. Sad I missed s good chunk of 'em. But I feel I did some good catching up today. Was back into the ring in no time. Almost like riding a bike.

Re: Here are the Top Three Wii U and 3DS Games, According to Miiverse

Joenen

It's not just about sales. Games can sell well and still be not as enjoyable as games that sold less.

The people who frequent Miiverse enjoyed these the most. That's all there is too it, and it's very nice too see XCX getting recognition too. Tri Force Heroes is a surprise to me but that just goes to show we can't underestimate a game just because it's casual or online reviews don't take to it.

Re: Rumour: Data Miners Leak Some of the Information From Tomorrow's Nintendo Direct

Joenen

Geno is a nice touch.

As for Cloud, maybe, just maybe, the HD remake for FFVII will come to the NX.

Very doubtful but the fact that they were able to get him into Smash makes me suspect it. in fact FFVII being the cut off point would make this a dramatic return to Nintendo. Plus we know an amiibo is on the way, so it'd be nice to have a game to go with it.

Re: Accusations of Plagiarism Directed at Popular Super Mario Maker Level Creator

Joenen

A good level is a good level. I don't particularly care if mine get copied. It's mostly just flattery.

If YouTube however gets involved, and it becomes more about subscriber views than good levels, it's irksome. can't help but wonder if we should just not have "professional youtubers" for certain things. It's all fun and games until someone's making money over someone else's work.

Re: Video: Sceptile Has Been Confirmed as a Fighter in Pokkén Tournament

Joenen

Every new fighter reveal gets me all tFor a fighting game, it could use a bit more fighting types, but not complaining.

This is really something that sould have happaned a long while ago. How this is happening only just now amazes me.

Like back in the N64 days, get a game with machamp, hitmonlee, Hitmonchan, Gengar, Pikachu, Alakazam, Mewtwo final boss. And Arcanine too.

Like, I feel part of the reason this doesn't have as much hype (as I think it should have anyways) is cause the nostalgia doesn't lie in fighting games, but traditional games / stadium / collosseum games.

Re: A 'Big' Nintendo Announcement is Coming on Monday

Joenen

@OorWullie he's the marketing head. He's not going to be sacked for doing his job and telling us when we should pay attention to, well, the marketing.

Now if he was blabbing about how marketing strategies were decided on via dartboard or how ethnocentric X part of the company was towards marketing, then he'd lose his job quicker than you could say "numnuts"

Re: Sega Slashes Full-Year Net Profit Projection By 90 Percent

Joenen

@Artwark Japan has plenty of employment issues actually. Companies are stuck paying high salaries to older people due to seniority practices in Japan.

New employees get paid really poorly for the promise of getting paid really well later.

You don't want to lose your job there anymore than you would elsewhere.

Re: Review: Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon (3DS)

Joenen

From what it sounds like, if you're a mystery dungeon fan, you'll enjoy the game. Which is what the review said.It would've been nice to hear more comparisons between gates and explorers of so that we have a better understanding of where it stands within the mystery dungeon series, but its fair to to look at the game as it stands alone by itself.

I do find all pokemon games more or less tedious, but that's expected at this point. "how" tedious in comparison to the others would've been helpful for future reference.

But yeah, cana't wait to play it. fan-based reviews have me excited. I heard gates was just that bad, so I passed on it, but I'm finishing up explorers of time (cause my local gamestop didn't have sky and didn't feel bothered enough to get it on the internet).

really nice game in the series, but here's hoping this one tops it.

Re: Feature: Our Top 10 Wii U eShop Games - Third Anniversary Edition

Joenen

My favorite game that isn't on this list is Teslagrad.

The only games on the list that I played are runbow and shovel knight. Neither of which are beaten, and I'm kinda sad I bought them. Or rather I would've rather had shovel knight in my 3DS so I could take it with me abroad. I liked the review here on Runbow but I wasn't that impressed with the game myself.

It's better with multiplayer but we just end up playing other multiplayer games instead.

Re: Video: Take a Look at the Mega Man Cartoon that Never Was

Joenen

The "little boy fighting monsters" thing is somewhat a turn off I agree. Like, as a kid, at least in the states, you look for an older figure to look up to. For example, the dub voices for the megaman Exe anime I liked a whole lot better than the Japanese version, cause the Japanese voices are child-like voices (which of course, they are), while the English dub voices are more mature, and honestly, "cooler". Plus it's mega "man" not mega "kid".

That all being said, they could've just done the same thing and released it like that. I haven't actually seen the Mega Man cartoon but this sales pitch felt really good~

Re: Nintendo Is Making Female Characters Cover Up For The Western Version Of Xenoblade Chronicles X

Joenen

@OlicityBlows

As long as sex sells, it won't happen. It's kinda fascinating how Hollywood culture can objectify women and at the same time spin it so that said women are being strong and independent.

In this case though Japan is Being Japan and appealing to the lolicon crowd which is just unacceptable for Western standards. Nintendo's just doing what everyone else does when this happens, by censoring it.

I don't mind censorship but at least make it sensible. I've never heard of a girl wearing a Bikini over other clothes. Anything's better than seeing a 13 year old in that kind of outfit but you can make it make a little more sense.

Re: A Teaser Site for Xenoblade Chronicles X Has Just Gone Live in North America

Joenen

Part of what made the predecessor enjoyable was the story and the characters, and the various interactions with the world itself. A good story makes me want to complete the game, and I think games with better told stories allow the player to gloss over any minor flaws the game might have, or perhaps some more major ones.

I honestly doubt this game will be able to captivate me like the first one was able to. The main character being "you" doesn't really jive with me. Probably cause I'm a boring person, but all the same if I'm not interested in the protagonist, I'll lose interest in the story. Unless they can really find a way to bind the player character and the actual player in an immersive, engaging way, I think the first entry in the series will remain the most loved.

Re: Sega: Recent Sonic Games Haven't Been "Acceptable", Looking To Replicate The Past In Future Outings

Joenen

I'm happy to hear that Sega isn't putting it's mascot down to rest. However I'm sad to hear that they might be giving up on the 3D Sonic Experience.

There are many things I like about 3D sonic or rather, the Sonic Adventure series, and aspects of Colors, generations, and even unleashed (the non-werehog parts at least).

Well, here's hoping they can find a way to not only go back to the roots, but to expand on those roots in a way that feels natural, as opposed to the forced 3D perspective.

It feels like Sega not having a console to sell has hurt sonic a bit. The Adventure games have a ton of nostalgia in them for players like me. i.e. those too young to have experienced him fully in his early days.
