As some of you may remember, a new Pokkén Tournament fighter was due to be revealed on the 10th, with new support Pokémon due to be announced, too. The announcement was supposedly leaked a couple days ago by accident on a Japanese Pokémon show, where a display was spotted that outed the characters. While the rumours certainly appeared to be true, they were still up in the air until today.
Though it isn't a huge surprise, Sceptile is the new fighter and Electrode and Farfetch'd are the support Pokémon. The announcement came via a video posted to Bandai Namco's Youtube account, which primarily showcases Sceptile's moves and also includes a little bit of footage of Electrode and Farfetch'd. Check it out:

Sceptile is a nice addition. I'm hoping they eventually announce dragonite. Also a cuuent gen pokemon. The dog form of zygarde would be a nice surprise.
Awesome! Sceptile is my second favourite Pokemon, after Rayquaza. Though I doubt Rayquaza would actually make it due to size constraints.
Sceptile would have been nice to have in Smash. In Smash, there's already a fire and water type starter, so a grass starter would have balanced everything.
Boo! Farfetch'd would have been a great, unorthodox addition to the cast. And how cool would it have been for Electrode to be a fighter? What would he even do? Roll all over his enemies? As ridiculous as that sounds, I'd be all in favour of it. I'm sick of all of these "safe" choices.
@crimsontadpoles my friend has a completely unfounded theory that the final smash presentation will focus on cloud, reveal the ballot winner and then have an final character. The grass starter from the next generation.
I slapped his warm beverage from his hand because had clearly "had enough"
Look, I know when this game was originally announced we were all like 'it better not just fighting-type Pokemon!' but now I'm wondering where on Earth are Hitmonchan and Hitmonlee!
Sceptile is a great choice, cool looking, unconventional fight style and can turn into a dragon. Makes you wonder why they didn't add him sooner!
Looks like my kind of fighter. However, I really hope that every generation has at least one Pokémon in there. We still have no Pokémon from Gen 5 and Gen 6! And while this is what I expect to happen at the very least, Heracross would be a super-nice adddition in my book!
By the way, I expect his moves to function similarly should he ever come to Smash. Not only would there be a Grass Starter again but a Gen 3 rep, too! Then we'd need Pichu back (or any other Gen 2 Pokémon, I don't care) and a Gen 5 rep (I'd vote for Keldeo tbh) and my dream of having a rep from every Pokémon generation in Smash would be complete!
Add Meowth or Psyduck! They don't have to be all serious fighters
Very nice! This game is shaping up to be very good.
Does anyone know if this game is gonna have a story?
Cool. First Mewtwo, now this. The DLC is great!
Every new fighter reveal gets me all tFor a fighting game, it could use a bit more fighting types, but not complaining.
This is really something that sould have happaned a long while ago. How this is happening only just now amazes me.
Like back in the N64 days, get a game with machamp, hitmonlee, Hitmonchan, Gengar, Pikachu, Alakazam, Mewtwo final boss. And Arcanine too.
Like, I feel part of the reason this doesn't have as much hype (as I think it should have anyways) is cause the nostalgia doesn't lie in fighting games, but traditional games / stadium / collosseum games.
I like Sceptile, but I wish two of the three starters in the game weren't third gen pokémon. It just feels unbalanced to me.
So is all this news still just about the arcade box, or are they talking about the Wii U version yet which is supposed to be out in the spring?
Does that yellow forcefield boundary keep all players in the ring at all times? This game reminds me a bit of Soul Caliber but one of the best aspects of Soul Caliber was fighting your way towards the edge to get a "ring out". And then jumping out after your defeated opponent just for kicks.
Well at least it has more arenas than the 1 in Mario Tennis Ultra Smash, what a joke.
Q) What do you think?
A) I'm disappointed that the latest character reveal is neither a Gen 5 or Gen 6 Pokémon, but I'm also glad to see that there is a Grass type now in the game.
Q) Are you glad to see these Pokémon added in?
A) Farfetch'd is an awesome Pokémon, though one I didn't expect to be playable, so I'm glad it's been included as a support Pokémon. Electrode is fairly iconic, so a support role at least makes sense.
As for Sceptile; I think it's a decent inclusion. I'd have preferred Grovyle over the Sceptile form, but I understand the choice, and it's a decent choice in regards to both Gen 3 Pokémon and Grass types.
Q) Who would you like to see added next?
A) A Gen 5 or Gen 6 Pokémon preferably; I'm currently quite fond of the potential Galvantula would have as a fighter. My brother and I actually made a video on the subject of what Pokémon we'd like to see added in Pokkén Tournament, when I remember how to add a link to it, I'll consider putting it within my comment here if anyone is interested.
The trailer looked nice, Sceptile is a great pick too. Nice to see Farfetch'd (although playable would've been great) and Electrode (MAH BOI THO) in the game too, even if they're not playable. (Electrode would be a little weird, but we could definitely use more characters that aren't all that normal.)
Looks awesome!
Hope to see Swampert now! Chandelure, Hitmontop, Medicham and Heracross would also be top choices! Would be nice to have a few more quadrupeds in the mix too, Arcanine or maybe Avalugg?
Nice
He's a good fit.
Can they date this game already?
