Famitsu's Japanese chart figures are now in for the period 23rd - 29th of November, and not much has changed at the top, with the railroad-themed Momotaro Dentetsu: Showa, Heisei, Reiwa mo Teiban! remaining in first place while Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity is still in second.
However, both titles saw their weekly sales drop by quite some margin; Momotaro Dentetsu dropped from 345,697 to 126,729 while Age of Calamity's figures plunged from 173,215 last week to 40,667.
Elsewhere, it was normal service for Nintendo, with 9 of the 10 spots occupied by Switch games. Only the PS4 version of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War managed to make it in, selling 14,688 copies to secure the seventh position in the chart (last week, it was at number six).

I love how Japan has a completely different interest in videogame genre. You always see top selling games that would probably be widely ignored in the west if they were ever localised.
Daaaang Xbox, you are totally rocking in those 5 digits.
Surprised the PS5 isn't higher but I heard Sony did them dirty with supply which may be why. Home consoles not really being a thing there doesn't help matters either. Does make Xbox numbers look sexier though.
@Rhaoulos
and that is good.
people would not like to buy those games that looks different but feel the same playing with.
Switch lite sold nearly as many systems as the PS5 (impressive Nintendo)
Wow, the Xbox Series X has already outsold the One X?!
@Rhaoulos its pretty awesome isn't it mind you though there's probably a whole bunch of fellas on a Japanese site right now saying the same thing about Western made games and wanting them localised for Japan.
Xbox sales are pretty damn impressive, the Series X already beat the One X's lifetime sales, if I'm reading that right. We poke fun about XBox's sales numbers over there but in reality they're actually developing a cult following. Also, the Japanese market prefers having a disc drive on their systems judging from the PS5 disc vs. digital sales. This is really a turning point for XBox in Japan.
If Forza Horizon sets a game in Japan would it sell Xboxes?
Pikmin 3 still hanging in there...I love seeing games like that at number one as well as it's just so Japanese. I am curious to see how well the PS5 does after it sorts out its stock issues over there, I think a lot will depend on whether something comes out that they like - western "AAA" titles just don't cut it, they tend to vanish off the charts within weeks.
Go Pikmin! Hope it can stay on the chart a while longer.
@XenoShaun to be fair MS are selling all stock available. Numbers are low but they are shifting the stock which is available
The next gen consoles cannot be judged until there is a consistent supply chain.
Switch though has been utterly, utterly dominant all year and likely will be for the next while.
Are these PS5 numbers low because stock is low or interest is lower for it relative to the Switch?
I think the PS5 has reached its peak. Nothing more to gain in Japan for Sony anymore.
Konami still want to continue the Momotaro Dentetsu franchise on console but why don't continue Dance Dance Revolution on console ??
We need newest DDR on console ASAP.
Port DDR A20+ from Arcade to consoles and the sales will Boom !
@Anti-Matter How about no?
Interesting that most of what trends in the Japanese charts is usually more my speed compared to Western markets.
Imagine Dance Dance Revolution A20+ being played on Switch / PS4 / PS5.
I believe there are some DDR veterans including me who still want to play DDR on consoles again especially during pandemic.
@Tyranexx
Konami nowadays is not the same like during 90's.
They don't care to make a lot of games for consoles like used to be, especially DDR.
I miss Konami during 2000's era.
Such was a golden peak on that era.
It messed up after year 2010.
Sony really are taking the p*** out of their fans, if they didn't have enough to release it then they should have waited.
@Anti-Matter
Well i have some good news, but it's not much help.
USB dance pads do work with the switch, so Cadence of Hyrule and Crypt of the Necrodancer and other grid based games could be played and give you a workout with a dance mat
I hope the New 3DS LL sells 42 copies next week.
Buried the lead: Microsoft is finally outselling the PS4!*
Ring Fit Adventure is doing some great numbers now. Not bad for a gimmick! Helps that it’s actually a very good product too.
(*But not if you include the PS4 Pro)
@Anti-Matter Yeah, big no. DDR went down the tubes after 8th mix. The steps are so hard now it’s impossible without holding the bar. Makes everyone look like they are holding a walker. IIDX is supposed to be the hard game, DDR should have been kept relatively toned down.
@Anti-Matter Not worth it unless they make a high quality, durable metal pad. I miss my Cobalt Flux!
The ps5 and series X numbers would be way higher of they actually had stock to sell....
But in terms of Japanese gamers the ps5 and series S/X don't currently have any games that would interest them, just wait til persona 6/monster hunter world 2/final fantasy 16 come out and the ps5 has a steady amount of stock, then the numbers will be way up.
But still won't be able to beat the mighty switch, just hope the switch has some games next year
My Switch library would be so much bigger if I could read japanese. Their stuff is so much more up my alley than most things we get.
@TG16_IS_BAE
Have you ever know Paranoia Revolution, Over The Period, EGOISM 440, Endymion ?
They are level 19 DDR songs.
Don't even ask the stepchart patterns.
Btw, playing DDR with holding bar is a must for me.
Safety comes first.
Also, did you noticed what item i hold on my avatar ? 😏
@Anti-Matter I’ve seen those step charts, they are stupid. I played for 15 years without the bar, being able to clear anything, including fascination Maxx’s hardest step chart. Was the only guy at the arcade that could clear 10’s on doubles, again, no bar. I stopped playing when they started making those ridiculous 20 footers that require the bar. No, I have no idea what you’re holding.
@TG16_IS_BAE
You didn't know what thing i was holding in my avatar ?? 😅
It was Para Para Paradise PS2 controller for PS2. 😃
Now i can play Para Para Paradise at home by using my PS2 Slim Japan. 😄
@UltimateOtaku91 We have no idea what Nintendo is planning next year beside mario 3d world but 2021 is already looking pretty solid on third party alone. Bravely default, no more heroes, not one but TWO monster hunter games, Smt5, world ends with you 2, rune factory and disgaea are all coming out next year by summer at the latest. Its even better in the west since we will be getting a handful of 2020 japanese releases like smt3 HD and P5S.
@Anti-Matter Good for you.
@Chowdaire Sadly, none of those games appeal to me, so next year looks weak!
@TG16_IS_BAE Wow, thats too bad. I'm buying all of them; 2021 is gonna be another 2017/2019 for me.
@Chowdaire I’m just waiting patiently for the rumored Dark Souls 2 port. Switch hasn’t been my main thing for almost the entire year. I barely play it, to be honest due to lack of interesting games for me.
@Chowdaire being a big rpg player that list actually looks very appealing to me, with that list alone next year is already bettw rthan this year.
Just hope we get a yo kai watch 4 release and maybe a new pokemon for the fall
@UltimateOtaku91 Yeah, 2020 died so that 2021 could live.
That train game must be really good hehehe. No PS5 games in sight.
Yeah! Get it Pikmin!!
@Digitamamon64 Heck yeah!
@Bizaster Momotaro Dentetsu ("Momotaro Electric Railroad") is a boardgame-style game. It is not to be confused with Momotaro Densetsu ("Momotaro Legend"), an RPG series. It's hardly surprising that a western Nintendo is familiar with "densetsu" but not "dentetsu"; that was me until I looked this up last week, wondering if there was a typo in the game's name.
@pdapanda
Sales of the original Xbox One model (before Xbox One S) are not mentioned here.
Xbox Series has not outsold Xbox One. If it ever does, it will take years for that to happen.
@Anti-Matter Some companies definitely change over time. Sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse. Though im the case of DDR, I wonder how profitable the series was on consoles to begin with. Honestly, up until a few years ago I thought it was only available in arcades. Though I also never owned the machines it could be found on.
This is like having someone always eat the same thing at the same restaurant - every time.
Thankfully we have enough money in the West to keep the rest of the gaming Industry from going bankrupt
made an account just to say that:
when will you guys at nintendolife review momotaro? come on, this is a sign eh?
So do we have to wait until the end of March to know how well Pikmin 3 Deluxe sold in America/rest of the world?? I want stats! Lol
@Agramonte
The Japanese gaming industry is nowhere near bankrupt.
@westman98 These articles wouldn't be the same without his anti-Japanese rhetoric...
@WiltonRoots
He's just offended that PlayStation isn't absolutely crushing it in Japan, which means it must be the fault of Japanese people and not the fault of Sony/PlayStation.
Are Japanese Xbox owners the weebs of Japan? 🤔
@Agramonte
Not counting the Nintendo collaborations published by another company with the Pokémon Company and Koei Tecmo, there's 5 publishers represented on this list.
While in the US in October (the latest month that has sales data from the NPD) has 6 publishers represented. Not some huge difference.
This proves that more power means nothing to the Japanese. If you don't deliver fun games on the go you're not making bucks there. Sony better launch that PSP 5G that they been hinting at soon otherwise it'll be very difficult for them to retake Japan.
The PSP 5G

https://retrododo.com/psp-5g/
@Retro_Player_77 We all know the PSP 5 g is going to be a laughable flop.
Those who buy it will no doubt love it and it will probably be a good product. But they will need to make something pretty special to break back into the handheld market.
Then again I could be wrong, but i dont forsee it making a dent.
@Retro_Player_77 Sony said several times they are not interested in returning to the handheld market. That leak was over two years ago and by now they do have 5G phones ready. Perhaps 5G will be compatible with Remote Play one day, but don't expect them make a new PSP.
@NGNYS
You are obsessed son. Is it like when at school when you pretended to hate someone you really like? lf so you have the hots for Sony!
@westman98
I see that me putting Agramonte on ignore continues to be a wise decision.
@Vsaxo27 The stock is incredibly low in Japan. It’s sold out and being scalped for like $1000. I’m guessing Sony figured Xbox doesn’t have a chance in Japan so decided to mainly target the West for now.
That's really unfortunate for those who really want a PS5 but need to go through scalpers. Crummy that scalpers do that.
@Rob3008 Their naming conventions are a complete turnoff.
@Agramonte So do you try to produce these absurd but probably technically not racist generalizations about Japan, or does it just come naturally?
@JimmySpades I commented the chart is predictably constant. And in no way selling 1,000 XSX makes any hardware business viable for Microsoft (as usual). They still had the best launch in Xbox history so obviously it was not thanks to Japan. That is not generalization, they are sales charts.
@westman98 I did write "...the rest of the gaming Industry"
@JimmySpades He hates the Japanese, it's impossible to gloss over. Maybe a Japanese dude stole a girl he was obsessing over, who knows. Plus he can't get his head around how the Japanese people see beyond the whole graphics = wow veneer. They just like fun games regardless of the power behind them. To add to that calling the Japanese charts predictable when I could tell you the top ten in the states without even seeing them.
I got my my preorder copy of Momotaro Dentetsu first day and it came with a download code for the super famicom version for my Switch AND a Momotaro coaster!
@Tsuchinoko Result! I love it when you get those lil bonuses with games...
@Agramonte Could you tell the people here what you want the Japanese charts to look like please? I see multiple genres here, what's wrong?
Criticizing the Japanese market for buying the same games but praising the West in the same breath. You can't make this stuff up.
As for the "PSP 5G" rumors....Yeah, no way Sony is making games for two platforms again. They would have a lot to prove after they completely dropped the ball with the Vita. Sony's best bet to sell as many PS5s as possible is to secure exclusives/timed exclusives like they already are with FF16.
