Famitsu's Japanese chart figures are now in for the week ending 13th December, revealing that Momotaro Dentetsu: Showa, Heisei, Reiwa mo Teiban! is still at the top of the charts.
The game (detailed here), now enjoying its fourth week at the summit, managed to fend off CD Projekt's Cyberpunk 2077 to claim number one, outselling it by around 62,000 copies despite already being on sale for almost a month.

Pikmin 3 Deluxe hanging on at 6th, not bad! Woo!
Choo Choo! How you like them peaches?
Seriously though I am impressed with the series x numbers. Not bad for Japan.
Not surprising. It's only a matter of time before Momotaro Dentetsu: Showa, Heisei, Reiwa mo Teiban! takes the world by storm. Some people haven't heard of Momotaro Dentetsu: Showa, Heisei, Reiwa mo Teiban!, to which I can only say, once you've gotten just a taste of Momotaro Dentetsu: Showa, Heisei, Reiwa mo Teiban!, you'll be instantly addicted, so tread carefully and start slow.
I know it's due to hardware shortages, but there's something funny about seeing the PS4 ahead of the PS5 on this list (not factoring in the separation of the digital-only one of course).
@BlubberWhale It seems to have done much better in Japan than the West. Must be a bigger franchise there.
Wow, they seriously love that game 😂😂
Ah, well nothing to specia...wait a minute! Animal Crossing is over 6 million now!? In 9 months.
The Switch Lite alone doubled all other non Switch console sales combined
That's incredible. Sony may not be into making mobile consoles anymore, but you have to wonder if the Switch's runaway dominance is gonna make them look back and wince at how easily they gave up on the PSP line
Most of those copies of Cyberpunk will be going back for a refund.
Can't wait for the raci- I mean culturally insensitive description of Japan's gaming preferences that will result from this news.
If Momotaro Dentetsu passes 1 million units sold will Konami release it in the West? I hope so.
@BlubberWhale
Yes go Pikmin 3 Deluxe! It's Selling quite well in Japan.
@Clyde_Radcliffe Yeah maybe, but there’s a lot we don’t know. I don’t think there are any numbers available for the US, the largest Switch market, and those early sales numbers for the UK (a fairly small portion of “the West”) were only for physical, I believe.
I’m still waiting to find out, even though I suspect you’re mostly right.
Edit: Hoping it will crack 3 million, but as long as it beats previous sales records for the franchise I guess I’ll be content.
The Switch, including the Lite, is on course to sell twice as many lifetime units in Japan as the PS4, including the Pro, within the next few weeks... That’s pretty incredible - as a marker of Nintendo’s success, not a poor reflection on Sony.
Smash at 9. And the NINTH fighter is being presented today! COINCIDENCE? Yes but a useful one
Anyone that thinks xbox numbers are good isn't firing on all spark plugs. And RingFit is doing pretty good for obvious reasons.
Weekly Switch hardware sales slightly down YoY (by ~3%) but still very strong.
Ring Fit Adventure will surpass 2 million sold in Japan by the end of the week.
And some people wonder why Konami stopped making very expensive Metal Gear and Silent Hill games.
Not that I do not miss them (especially Silent Hill - MGS 5 wasn't my cup of tea, I admit), but from a business perspective it makes sense IMO.
Just wait once Monster Hunter Rise arrives Momotaro Dentetsu will be knocked out of 1st place and the Switch will bury both PS5 and PS4 alive.
@shgamer I agree, but I think the model has been for awhile, exemplified by Nintendo above all others, “Green light a couple glorious, expensive pet projects (Mario Odyssey, BOTW) to keep the fans interested, and make the real money with 20 dirt cheap to produce spin-off titles, 10 of which feature Mario.”
(Tried to compact a larger thought into one ugly sentence, please forgive...)
@Digitamamon64 Heck yeah! Can’t wait to see the full worldwide sales figures, physical AND digital, especially here in the US. Go Pikmin 3, GO!!
Gosh... it looks like Animal Crossing will make it over the seven million mark at some point, doesn't it?
Wow... Switch and Switch Lite should hit 14 and 3 million respectively next week, Ring Fit should hit two million physical, Smash Bros. is not far away from FOUR million... amazing stuff Nintendo.
@Retro_Player_77 At this point I expect Monster Hunter to be the next franchise represented in Smash. Not that it would be needed to help sales of either game in Japan. Jeebus those numbers are going to be insane. If I were Nintendo I'd ship all hardware to Japan that month, and if I were Sony and Microsoft I'd ship all hardware west.
Will cyberpunk have a negative value next week on ps4 for all the returned games?
another reminder as usual:
make a feature on momotaro.
Dat Nintendo Power.
Get used to this. It's all Switch way into January. Can't imagine how crazy Monster Hunter Rise will sell. Capcom will be very happy indeed. Thing is, it's not just Japan. The Switch is super popular worldwide!
The switch sold over 10 times all the other consoles together
The XBox Series X already outsold the XBox One X lol
I know that the XSX is a new generation whereas the XOX was only an upgrade to the XO but still
With their 5 year track record in Japan, This is an improvement (and it is a broken game)
Switch: The Witcher 3: Complete Edition (10/17/19) – 7,218
PS4: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (05/21/15) – 67,385
Hopefully Sony Japan gives out refunds. Not sure what their consumer laws are.
Either way. Do not think they were counting on Japan (or all of Asia) to keep the lights on. They are not really fans.

@westman98 is Switch still experiencing mild stock shortages in Japan?
Sigh...
I really want Konami ported their Dance Dance Revolution A20+ to consoles. 😓
I cannot stand with dominance of Just Dance games. Their songlist are always terrible for my taste.
I need new rhythm games from Japanese developers on consoles.
Who needs Castlevania, Metal Gear, and Contra? Konami can live off of Momotaro Dentetsu.
@IronMan30
No. Supply has been fairly strong for much of December in Japan.
In fact, December is the one month where Switch has been well stocked in Japan for each year it has been on the market.
@westman98 well, I guess the Pokemon effect is real. Lol
Oh boy I really hope this will make konami decide to release Momotaro Dentetsu in the west.
WOW! Those PS5 sales! I wasn’t expecting to see that! Is this a sign of Japan wanting mobile devices, over traditional home consoles? Or is it a supply issue? Either way, that looks bad leading up to the holidays!
I really do hope Konami get behind the Switch. They have some amazing game series that have only paid lip service to Nintendo gamers.
