Re: Nintendo Tells Mobile Partners To Limit Microtransactions So That Players Don't Spend Too Much

Jimez

On a plus, Nintendo at least sell us a complete game with extremely minor bugs (at best). Then sell additional DLC created AFTER the game was finished for a reasonable price.

Unlike other companies, who sell 3/4 of a game and sell the other 1/4 at a later date. And also shove micro-transactions (which to be fair, should only be for "free to play" titles like Fortnite and Candy Crush Saga) into £40-£50 games.

Re: Nintendo Planning Ways To "Boost The Appeal" Of Switch Online Service On A Yearly Basis

Jimez

The Switch online service needed to be something different when it launched, with a few NES titles each month (Japan gets 3, the West gets 2) so far, it doesn't seem anything different.

What it needed from the get go was

A library of between 10-20 SNES, NES and Gameboy/Color titles from the get go, with more being added each month. N64 games coming in the spring, GameCube and GBA titles in the Summer and Autumn respectively. And giving us the option to purchase said games

The ability to message friends, and invite them to play games. It's standard with Xbox and PlayStation, why not Nintendo.

Special offers as promised, and an updated reward scheme to reflect the Switch.

Re: Talking Point: Come In Nintendo 3DS, Your Time Is Up

Jimez

The 3DS was the machine that certainly kept Nintendo floating. The system itself has some excellent games, and has one of the best libraries for software available right now.

And that was after it was relaunched because of poor sales and launch titles.

But, it's now over 7 years old. The Switch is out, people are moving over to the new hybrid device as the sales figures are showing. I'm actually surprised games like Luigi's Mansion and Kirby's Epic Yarn are coming to the 3DS alone, should have had Switch versions lined up at the same time. This should be the final year of the 3DS. The Streetpass across public WiFi has ceased, Miiverse ceased and Nintendo themselves have given up on the 3D tech they envisioned. Developers need to move with the times and onto the Switch.

Re: Disappointing 3DS Software Sales Show The Console's Slow Death In Japan

Jimez

It's been nearly 9 years, people are moving onto the Switch (most of the gaming group i'm in moved onto the Switch on launch, but still occasionally play 3DS)

It's surprising me (and others) that games re-releasing on the 3DS form Nintendo's past (Luigi's Mansion and Epic Yarn) are not also coming to the Switch, Captain Toad is one such title to double re-release.

Personally, they should just put the 3DS out to retire now. It's had an epic run, it's got a fantastic library of games available for just about everyone.

Re: Random: New York Times Crossword Puzzle Forgets That The Wii U Was A Thing

Jimez

Hardly surprising the NYT Crossword overlooked the WiiU, millions of other people overlooked it also. The WiiU suffered because many believed it to be an expensive add-on to the Wii. It also didn't help with the many, many different controls available to play games. Not only did you have that Fisher price-esq tablet, but you had a Pro controller and the Wiimote along with it's accessories. And WiiU games worked with most controls that were compatible with the WiiU.

Re: Locked Character Roster In Smash Bros. Ultimate Raises Concerns About Tournament Play

Jimez

Unlocking characters in Smash is pretty simple, and Nintendo know that. 10 minute Smash matches, and you have the opportunity to unlock a character. No need to play WoL if time is against you (you can get characters unlocked this way too).

10 minutes is perfect for those with little time for gaming, and if you don't succeed in unlocking the character at first, it re-appears later for another shot.

To me, it seems Nintendo got it right.
