Re: Review: Stella Glow (3DS)

@Carlos1996 I thought the demo looked great in 3D myself. Good sense of depth, without going crazy. Text overlays on the correct plane, etc. I'm on a New 3DS thou.

I ended up playing the demo of this last night by chance, and it's rocketed up my 'must buy' list based on presentation alone. It's so... Crisp.

Honestly my only hang up is its really creepy female designs, of both over the top endowments and lolli varieties. So skeevy.

@jessejamez7166 Devil Survivor is a turn based strategy spin-off of the main SMT line. While it has a lot of which makes SMT great, its not really a great example of what SMT is really about. I'd get SMT IV myself for the better intro to SMT as a whole.

Re: Midora Developer Admits He Knew Kickstarter Funds Wouldn't Be Enough To Complete The Game

Jim_Purcell

The mistake these Kickstarter guys make is getting too ambitious with their minimal funding goals. $60,000 is a good chunk of change to build a decent sized proof-of-concept game. Build an overworld an a solid dungeon and call it. Act 1' and then follow it up with another Kickstarter or find a publisher to back you. Don't try to make a 10 or 20 hour game on a shoe string. You're doomed to failure.

Re: Video: Mother 4 Fan Game Gets a Crazy New Trailer Ahead of Summer Release

@TobiasAmaranth Mother 3 had rhythm based action commands in the combat. It looks like may have been a bit more refined for this game.

This game looks really interesting. I fear it might be channeling Earthbound/Mother 2 a little too much. Mother 3 was such a fresh experience as a follow up. Going backwards seems like a really fan thing to do.

Re: Feature: Five Nintendo 64 Games We'd Love to Play on 3DS

Jim_Purcell

Its funny, I came down here to post a whole list of games I'd like to see. But then I realized... a lot of these are third party, or RARE. And people say the N64 didn't have 3rd Party Support...

Frankly all 5 choices here aren't too great. Maybe because I'm not that into racing games. And it would make more sense to make Pokemon Snap 2, instead of a port...

But I would kill for a Pilotwings game that was as expansive as Pilotwings 64. Resort was such a let down.

But if I could get one 3rd-party 3D remake... SPACE STATION SILICON VALLEY!

Get on it Rockstar!

Re: Guide: Getting The Most Out of Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate

Jim_Purcell

I've been enjoying the demo for MH4U a lot, previously I tried the demos for MH3, but something never quite clicked. With the new 3DS's C-Stick the camera isn't as much of a fight any more.

That said I seriously wish this game had a proper lock-on system. Like Dark Souls (or Zelda, I suppose...). Its frustrating mashing L and trying to orient yourself constantly (and still have a lot of attacks whiff). And no real way to lock on to the little monsters that might harass you during a fight.

Re: Weirdness: Fan Turns Pokémon Blue into a SNES Game

Jim_Purcell

But... does it work? I literally don't know how it would. The Super Game Boy is literally the guts of an actually Game Boy shoved into a cart. An SNES circuit board doesn't have the means of playing a Game Boy ROM.

EDIT: Oh, he's soldering a GB circuit board to a Super Game Boy circuit board then cramming both circuit boards into an SNES cart. I guess that would work. But it seems like of... pointless.

Also, I just realized something... has Nintendo never releases a mainline Pokemon game on Virtual Console?

Re: Expect To See More Spin-Off Titles Like Hyrule Warriors In 2015, Says Miyamoto

I'm trying to think of another interesting combo they could go for... maybe something Super Robot Wars-esque from Bamco?

They really need to light a fire under Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem. Bringing Majin Tensei back from the dead is some shape or form.

They've already got Pokefighters lined up for a... probably 3D fighter? Could probably use a 2D fighter too. Nintendo vs Capcom anyone?

Re: Nintendo 64x64: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

Jim_Purcell

And yeah, if any game is going to last up. Its gonna be this one.

What a great feature this 64x64 thing has been. N64 was probably the second most important console I ever owned behind my NES. It was the first console I got on release month (Christmas 96) and I followed its releases pretty rigorously throughout its lifetime. I still have all my original games, plus a whole pile of new ones I had missed. I still play it pretty often. Its library is often underrated compared to what the PS1 was putting out at the same time. But at the same time... it was so much more exciting then Sony's offerings. Maybe if its was a disc based system it could have edged out in the long run, but game carts have their own strengths (no load times here!).

A great console, from a great generation of gaming.
