Project X Zone on 3DS isn't perfect, but its bonkers storyline and mashups of Capcom, Sega and Bandai Namco certainly aren't dull. A lengthy, occasionally odd game, for fans of those companies and their storied franchises it can be a slice of anarchic strategy heaven.
The good news is that a sequel appears to be on the way to the 3DS, once again headed up by Bandai Namco - Project X Zone 2: Brave New World. We've marked this as a rumour simply as a result of it seemingly being leaked - and subsequently removed - by an Italian website attending a Bandai Namco event in the country. The existing article makes no mention of the game, but a screengrab of the apparent original article on Facebook clearly lists this 3DS project. The logical reasoning is that the website inadvertently broke an embargo and deleted the evidence.
At present there is a Famitsu countdown to a reveal - paste http://www.famitsu.com/sp/150408_bne/ into a browser to see it - that may be related to this. We'll see in a couple of days.
Should this prove accurate, are you excited about a Project X Zone sequel on 3DS?

Sweet, hope it's more than just rumors. Absolutely love the first game, maybe there's a slim, frail chance of its sequel making it to North America.
I enjoyed the first one, even though I'm far from finishing it.
Man, I've barely started the first game, but I'd be more than down for the sequel if it hits Stateside.
And if that's an interesting choice for the title, because the theme song for Namco x Capcom on PS2 was actually called "Brave New World".
I didn't like Project X Zone. Fan service was good though
Very excited. An insane game, just surreal fun. I would greatly look forward to a sequel.
That was a fun game, I'll be sure to get the sequel!
Played the demo of the original and thought I would get the game later once it became discounted. Nice to see another entry in the series, this might pique my interest again. My Wii U is collecting dust these days since there's so much awesomeness on 3DS.
I liked the original a lot, even though being a more "classic" Sega fan, I found their side of the character roster a tad lacking.
Namco and Capcom had a much more recognizeable "all-star" lineup.
If they do a new one, I'd love to see other 'legacy' Sega franchises get some representation, such as Streets of Rage, Golden Axe, Shinobi, Shenmue, or heck, even Alex Kidd.
Please be legit. I really loved the first.
I played a fair bit of the first one. The game is so lengthy though that if i ever finish it i probably won't be playing another game of project x zone for at least a couple years.
I like the game a lot, but I'm still on Chapter 22.
Have to be honest i'm not a fan of project X Zone but i hope it is true for those of you who are fans.
Not really interested, but another good 3DS third party game is always welcome.
And I was hoping for other X Zone games like these:
Magazine X Zone(Kodansha's Shonen Magazine)
Sunday X Zone(Shogakukan's Shonen Sunday)
Jump X Zone(Shueisha's Shonen Jump)
Tatsunoko X Zone(Tatsunoko Production)
Not sure if I'll bite. The first one was cool, but painfully repetitive, especially since missions just outright refuse to end at times, instead throwing enemy wave after enemy wave right at you. And as you progress further, your own party gets very sizeable, too, making every single turn take even longer (plus enemy units just flood the whole map at that point, with over 40 enemies becoming increasingly common)! Think Project S.T.E.A.M., but worse.
I enjoyed the first one despite it getting stupid repetitive in the later chapters. Hope this one brings back the current cast whilst adding new ones and touching up on the original's shortcomings
NA release please! LOVED the 1st one. Insta-buy if it comes west.... please come west...
i hope they improve it the gameplay. stop throwing enemies at me when i already defeated a group.
bonkers storyline
I think "almost non existent storyline" is more accurate. Your group is literally randomly transported from area to area with no control over it. The interest in moving on was based around the characters and their interactions, since the story didn't actually have progression.
But progression was an issue in the battle system too, since the combat is essentially the same for the entire game, which was around 50 hours, because battles took a very long time. Since there was no real progression in how you played the game, the combat got very stale before the game was even 1/2 done.
I don't hate Project X Zone, it did a lot of things right, like had amazing attack animations and accurate portrayals of all the characters, but if it also had a combat system that progressed instead of staying the same and an actual story it would have been a lot better.
I got bored with Project X Zone real quick. Cool if this rumour is true, but I'm not looking forward to it.
Hope there's more classic Sega characters this time like the Sonic franchise, Jet Set Radio, Streets of Rage.
@shonenjump86 I agree.
I wish it played more like Fire Emblem personally.
@H_Hog This.
@xshinox Seriously.
Looking at the back ground of the link and of the title screen, yup, it's a sequel.
Really hope this is true; I loved the first one! It was the first title I ever downloaded from the Eshop! I still need to finish it, though...
I still haven't finished the first game. I should probably get back to it.
I still can't beat the last Level, it's too hard. >_<
OH YES! I am all about this! awesome game, love the battle system.
Perhaps they should look more to the direction of Valkyria Chronicles for a battle system? As in, units have classes with advantages and disadvantages, and you choose which ones to deploy and when.
I really liked the first one but they could do with making it a bit more varied in terms of the battle mechanics. It starts to get a bit samey and that's not so great for such a long game...
Maybe this is what Project Treasure is.
OH YES. YES. YES. YES.YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is my favorite game on the 3DS and thank you for giving us hope for a sequel.
Insta-buy if it comes to NA.
I played the demo of the first one over & over, and while I love the idea, I just couldn't quite grasp the battle mechanics.
Cool game, now if the third sequel could improve upon the first two games that would be appreciated. Project X Zone and Namco X Capcom were good but the storyline was all for fan service.
I really liked the Gameplay but it needs a lot of improvements I think. I wasn't a fan of not being able to mix and match. Or chose who to play with during each scene. And the story was to much I think, it felt like I spent more time reading than I was playing. Other than that it was a solid game and hope bring it over here.
.hack//Infection
.hack//Mutation
.hack//Outbreak
.hack//Quarantine
They all NEED to come out on the 3DS!
Like alot of other folks I'm still playing the first game which is fab. Definitely interested in a sequel as long as they do things a bit different than the first game to keep it fresh.
First 3DS announcement I'm excited for in a long time
@Bass_X0 YES.
please be real please be real please be real!
I'd get it. The gameplay of the first game may have been repetitive but I still enjoyed the hell out of it.
Indeed. I really dug the first one.
I just hope Bayonetta is in this one and is work with Dante that will be like the best team ever
@megamanrulz14 Jump characters would be freaking amazing. Imagine teaming up Usopp with Morrigan. Lol
@Wulphire Hmmm... I like the way you think
I hope Bravoman, Wonder Momo, and Sonic are in it this time.
Awesome! I loved the first one so a sequel would be awesome!
Well if this becomes true i guess i have to play the original one then.
I thought this game failed to sell...guess I was wrong.
I would definitely get it. I loved the first one.
I will only get it if Phoenix Wright and Maya Fey are in it.
I hope sonic is in this, He needs to be in a better RPG then sonic chronicles.
Hey fellow NL compatriots!
It's my very first post despite being a fond reader of the site for quite a while. I've really enjoyed the reviews and reading the comments, so I thought I'd initiate my contributions since I recently finally finished Project X Zone. I did enjoy the overall experience, but I certainly agree with others that the game was way too long (i.e. 82 hrs) for the limited strategic and gameplay elements. Compared to series like Fire Emblem and Advance Wars, PXZ is kinda limited in its depth, and the story is too convaluted for its own good. Plus, there's WAY too much dialogue. I really hope that they address these issues as the game could really be awesome.
Thanks for reading,
Alden
Big fan of the first game, and also the Super Robot Wars games (on which Project X Zone was largely based). If there is a sequel, and if the character base is good, then it's an insta-buy for me!
Cool. I was always interested in the first game but never got around to picking it up. Since there doesn't seem to be much of a story, maybe I'll just go for the sequel.
Project X Zone is a not very good game that I'm glad exists. I'm also glad a sexual may be happening. Hopefully it's better then the first.
And also involve Atlus characters!
The first game was kind of overrated but still enjoyable for the fan service alone. I welcome any sequel which can top that.
I have the original game and am over half way thru at ch.24 ..... its a fun game but when a level takes an hour to complete ...... and you fail the level ..... its VERY frustrating come the third run through...... reward of completing the level are satisfying .... but ....sigh.....
However, I only knew a few of the character franchises so I am glad to have learned about others...... like the (./hackers).......
I have the first one and have yet to even pop it in. Maybe if I ever get to the first one I would give part 2 a try. I played the demo and liked it enough to buy the game but it got shoved to the rear of my backlog. I also still have the Etrian Odysseys to play and shin Megami Tensei soulhackers to play.
Really?! The first one bombed immensely!!
@Henmii that's not what I heard, I heard it did better then expected in North America.
Nice, I enjoyed the first one, even if it was far too repetitive
I am not excited. I didn't like the first one. I like all the characters. It's just not for me.
And it's confirmed for a Fall 2015 release not just in Japan, but in the west as well! Thanks Namco for confirming it for the west.
Square must be still waiting for that check from Nintendo for Bravely Second to announce it for the west.
I actually thought the first game was really fun so I am excited for this game. Hopefully it is real
@Pichupr0ject It's real.
@H_Hog Man, looking back at this post years later, 4 out of 5 called out, that's not bad. =o
I mean okay, Alex Kidd was only part of Ulalas attack, but aside from that, they got all of those in except Golden Axe.
