Square Enix has plenty good artists in-house that could have designed a better cover than this (just look at all the fantastic Final Fantasy art works for example).
There must be some serious mismatch / wall between Marketing and Art departments.
@Ducklizard I was seriously shocked that a year into the Switch2 lifespan, they didn't even announce a new Mario game.
I mean, Mario Kart World last year isn't really a Mario game. So it doesn't count.
It's really weird, as to why we still haven't seen the next Odyssey game? It was such a great game and massive success on Switch1.
Or what about a new Mario Maker? Or simply a new 3D Mario game? Instead of the old re-re-release of Mario 3D World on Switch1 a long while back.
Shouldn't come as a surprise seeing the current state with releases on the Switch 2.
I haven't touched my Switch 2 in months and barely anything revealed in this Direct excited me. Most exciting announcements were very late ports of games I already played on another platform. And few new announcements that were mildly exciting aren't even coming until next year.
Honestly, when you actually playing the game and moving around. Especially when sitting meters away from your TV in docked play, you literally don't notice much difference between the S1 and S2 version.
Only here sitting behind a PC, 30cm away from a high resolution screen looking at this youtube video, pixel peeping, will you notice the difference with the character standing still. But the moment you start moving around its much harder to notice the difference.
Maybe in handheld mode, if you game with your face glued 10cm away from your switch screen you might notice a difference in resolution lol. But honestly, on such a small screen you hard pressed to notice a difference between native S1 720p and native S2 1080p if you keep your face 30+ cm away from your screen. Which is how I game most of the time.
The problem with the Switch 1 was that most games couldn't run 720p in handheld mode most of the time and ran dynamic resolution in 480-520p average. That is a very noticeable difference when you go from that to native 1080p on Switch 2.
Using AI in the Alpha phase of development is fine.
It reduces costs significantly, which is important today where game development costs have risen out of control.
It's extremely time consuming having artists spend a ton of time creating stuff in Alpha, then ending up not working as intended and being discarded.
So if they are honest and really only use the AI tools during Alpha development for testing concepts and systems. It's fine.
This won't reduce jobs and instead reduces overall development time.
In this case I am all for it.
If a company is dishonest and uses gen AI through the entire process, for the sole purpose to get rid of artists and pump out AI slop.... yeah then we will have a whole different conversation.
As this is an actual problem in many modern fantasy/Sci-Fi board games that have been put out and the companies behind it lying about using AI, when it was obvious for everyone to see.
@LostAutumn Don't get me wrong, I manage to play the game on controller and it highly depends what class you play as well and required skill rotations.. making it either doable or a nightmare with controller.
But its still an MMO and you are forced to play through dungeons and trials progressing through the story, leveling up.... so you will have to communicate with people.
So you end up having to hook up a keyboard at the least.
Unless you are part of a very active FC, with discord voice chat and able to progress through the dungeons and trials without Duty Finder. Which is very rarely the case.
@Mgalens Yeah I just logged into my Mogstation and now suddenly see a separate Switch Service account option now under the existing Service account option (which contains PC, MacOS, Steam, XBOX and PS5).
Though it doesn't seem to do anything yet, other then Select existing Service account.
Weird stuff indeed if you need a separate monthly subscription on Mogstation for Switch.
This is going to hurt them though, as the vast majority of the people play on PC and use the console version for the occasional Couch play session. As its extremely hard to play this game with controller only.
I know some people who play exclusively on Playstation in my guild (FC), but use dedicated Mouse and Keyboard and not a controller. You have to even, to be able to chat with people, etc.
So people considering to play this game solely on the Switch 2 will need to hook up a mouse and keyboard. Or you simply not going to have a very good time with this game.
You can get away with using a controller the first couple hours, just testing out the game, run around and do some stuff, when you still have only few skills... but the moment you have to do the first dungeon, be ready to have a mouse and keyboard hooked up to your console.
@KasperDG I think this might be a mistranslation or something.
You need to buy the game and its expansions on each platform you want to play on, but the actual FFXIV monthly subscription you pay through Square Enix Mogstation and applies to all platforms under your Square Enix mogstation account.
So you can play the same character on each platform you bought the game on.
It doesn't make any sense it would be any different here, unless Nintendo is suddenly blocking cross-play / cross-progression for some reason. Which I hardly doubt, as after years we finally have cross-play / cross-progression with Warframe on the Switch. So would be an ass move by Nintendo if they suddenly block this with FFXIV.
@Metazoxan The Switch 2 has just an updated NVidia SoC, that now supports DLSS.
It's why 99% of the Switch 1 games run on the Switch 2 out of the box.
Same on XBOX Series X and PS5, that were also just updated AMD SoCs and why 99% of the XBOX One and PS4 games just run on the new systems.
So yeah, they literally do just an settings file update (if they use good dev practices) to change the resolution and FPS limit.
Then just do some basic testing to see everything runs properly.
Which shouldn't be much work, since these games were already optimized and extensively tested for the Switch 1.
It would be a whole different matter if they actually updated the S2 version of the game with high resolution textures, updated GFX and DLSS support.
Then I would be fine with paying a 12 bucks fee for the upgrade.
But reality is, from experience the past year, that most of these paid upgrades were absolute minimum effort with just a Resolution bump and often not even an FPS bump! Nothing more!
@solarwolf07 Yeah this goes beyond greed. It should be downright illegal and criminal!
These people already paid FULL price for these Cloud versions! Having to pay for it AGAIN to get them locally installed, after they shut down the Cloud is absurd!
@Danondorf All they literally do is change the resolution and FPS cap.
Paying 12 bucks for this is ridiculous. It should be a free update for existing Switch 1 version owners.
I am perfectly fine with them releasing a new dedicated Switch 2 version for those that don't own the game yet.
It would be a whole different matter if they actually updated the textures and release high resolution texture pack, including effects/shader updates making use of NVidia DLSS.
Then I it would be a proper upgrade warranting a 12 bucks upgrade price.
But charging 12 bucks what literally amounts to a two line code update in a settings file is absurd and greedy.
This is all thanks to Nintendo who started this greed trend with their paid Switch 2 game updates. So now 3rd party devs follow suit with this easy cash grab on the Switch 2.
But luckily not all 3rd party devs are like that and some have actually given us free Switch 2 updates, for those who already owned the S1 version.
There is no salvation for Mario Kart World and even Nintendo seems to think it now, since they seemingly have abandoned it too.
For me, Mario Kart World was a boring disappointment and I have never been so quickly burned out on an Nintendo game, as with this one.
What makes it so much worse for me, was that I had to pay a 100 bucks for this atrocity!
After all these years, I can still go back to Mario Kart 8 and enjoy it a heck lot more than this game.
In Mario Kart World, they removed almost everything that made the previous Mario Kart games so fun (specifically the progression with kart part unlocks, extensive kart customizations and individual kart characteristics tuning) and replaced it with an Open World that just feels like nothing but a gimmick.
All sales are plummeting. Thanks to AI buying up all RAM and Storage capacity for coming years, skyrocketing these component prices!
Just look at what Valve did earlier this week with the Steamdeck. Now that was a hefty price increase.
I don't even understand why they bothered and not just empty stock and stop sales altogether, as no one in their right mind is going to buy a Steam deck at that new price, that contains 5 year old hardware.
It was the same thing last year when Microsoft heavily increased the price of the XBOX Series X console to practically the same level as the PS5 Pro.
Who in earth is going to buy an XBOX Series X (with 5+ year old hardware), when they can buy a PS5 Pro for the same price?`
The result is, that here in Norway at least, XBOX Series X disappeared from the shops and no longer sold.
Same happens now with the Steam deck. Some stores were importing it and have instantly stopped.
Then, when you look at the custom PC market.... pretty much all companies in this market (Cooler Master, Grizzly, case manufacturers, etc, etc) saw their revenue drop to over 40% in just the last 3-6 months. As no one can afford to buy a new PC or upgrade their existing PC at the moment, with those RAM and Storage prices.
We are living in interesting times at the moment and have no idea where this is going to end up.
@PRIDE_ These people are so brainwashed by corporations for years (just see the comment right above here calling the EU the EUSSR). There is no hope trying to reason with them.
Its not just disturbing, but also hilarious.... as the whole reason you still see original Gameboy, GA, DS and 3DS consoles out in the world and having a huge retro community around it, is because the batteries are user replaceable!
@Nep-Nep-Freak Yeah the EU is so tyranical, because they banned Roaming charges from Mobile providers!
OH NO!..... So now these poor Mobile providers can no longer rip us off, by charging obscene amounts of money on phone calls, messages and Data usage the moment we cross a border within the EU.
The EU is so tyranical by forcing USB-C standard on all devices!
So now poor poor companies like Apple can no longer rip us off with overpriced propriety connectors.
Its so terrible now consumers only need one charging cable, instead of a dozen!
And now.... the EU is so tyranical to impose user replaceable batteries!
Because now poor companies like Apple, Samsung, etc, etc can no longer glue everything together for max profit and planned obsolescence, to force people to replace entire devices every 1 to 2-3 years, when the battery starts getting bad!
@Yalloo Because batteries in phones and tablets don't get recylced, because everything is so heavily glued in place, its too expensive and labor intensive to recycle.
Apple is trying to recycle some of its phones, to try recoup some rare earth minerals, like gold from the PCBs.
But this is just a small pet project for the sake of saying they doing it. The vast majority still ends up in a landfill.
By forcing companies to make batteries in mobile devices easily replaceable, then it will become much easier to collect used batteries and recycle them.
That will be the next step in the process. But you have to take this step first, so you can actually collect them.
Like i said, especially LiOn batteries have recycle/reuse potential.
Used car batteries for example, are being refurbished and repurposed for Energy storage at homes and utility companies.
Because it doesn't matter if it has only 60-70% capacity left for this purpose. That is still a lot of kWh per pack that can be stored.
@Yalloo Your comment is so misinformed and ignorant. I don't even know where to begin.
Just because the battery is the most polluted part, its then ok to throw away millions of phones, tablets, laptops, etc away in a landfill each year? Just because the battery died and is too difficult and expensive to replace?
And then buy a completely new device with yep....a new battery (which is most polluted part as you say!)
Have you any idea how stupid this sounds by saying that?
That new device contains another battery, plus plenty of other electronics, components, rare earth minerals, etc that are just as poluting! (especially LCD/OLED screen for example)
How in earth is that any better, than keep using the device you already have and only replace the battery!
OH MY GOD....... I am seriously disturbed by the average intelligence level of people these days. Its scary.
Either way...If you want to continue adding to the piling e-Waste, nothing is stopping you throwing your phone, tablet, laptop, console away after the battery dies.
While the rest of us, would like to replace the battery and continue to use an otherwise perfectly functioning device!
And by the way... many batteries.. especially rechargeable Li-Ion batteries are recycled/reused/repurposed, as they contain precious rare earth minerals, aluminum, etc.
The price rise is because of AI and them claiming all the RAM and m.2 nVMe storage, causing a huge shortage of these components and skyrocketing the prices of said components.
@Stormcloudlive It doesn't have to be complicated.
The JoyCons just need to have a few simple screws, or just a click hatch on the side where you can easily access the battery and replace it with a simple connector.
Same with the main Switch console. The back panel is plastic. Nothing is stopping Nintendo from either having 4 simple screws on the back to easily remove the backpanel and replace the battery, or make a slide hatch for easy access.
Again. Remember, stuff like this used to be normal.
Early Nokia phones, early Samsung Galaxy S smartphones, etc all had plastic back panels that easy popped open, for you to easily swap out simcards, SD cards and battery packs.
People have just forgotten that this used to be normal.
It's just pure greed by these tech companies, by gluing everything in place and make replacements purposely difficult and expensive. Its called planned obsolescence, to force people to throw away and replace equipment more frequently, to increase sales and profit!
@Yalloo That is only because those modular phones are too expensive for what you get. No name brand. Etc.
It would be a completely different matter if major brands like Apple and Samsung would offer phones with easy battery replacement.
And luckily for the new EU rule, this will happen next year.
I have an iPad Pro 12 inch, where the battery is terrible now. It's working perfectly fine, but no official Apple repair shop can replace the battery, as they are not allowed nor able to get replacement batteries from Apple.
Same now with my son's iPad, which is only 5 years old and still working fine, but battery is terrible now and not charging correctly anymore.
Same deal with other major brands like Samsung, etc.
Going to a 3rd party shop in a back ally is an expensive and risky affair. It costs a lot of money with a high chance of them putting a cheap and dangerous no-brand Temu battery in it.
People have already forgotten that easy battery replacement used to be normal.
Early mobile phones and laptops had separate battery hatches for easy replacement.
When it comes to handheld consoles. It was super easy to replace the battery on the 3DS.
I still have my 3DS and some replacement batteries lying on the shelf for it.
What happened in recent years is just corporate greed, which is causing an environmental disaster with ever piling up of e-waste. They made something simple as a battery replacement purposely difficult and very expensive, to push people to throw it away and buy new instead.
@Danny_ It's why the Steam machine (or cube) is put on hold. Most likely indefinitely for the time being.
Hence, why Valve has been completely silent.
It's no point releasing it now and having to price it so high, that only few can afford it.
More importantly, it will definitely not be good value for money.
@spiderman0616 This. I just like the convience of digital, as I don't have to constantly switch out cartridges or Bluray discs from a console.
I mean.... pretty much every single game these days have huge day 1 updates/downloads to be playable.
So if the servers go down, you stuck with a useless cartridge/bluray disc anyway.
And here in Northern Europe, there is no store left that does 2nd hand game trades anymore.
So that's another reason that died a while ago, when Gamestop closed down operations in Europe.
When it comes to online private trade.... its 99% retro stuff only from 80's, 90's and early 2000's.
This game is clearly targeted at small toddlers as the main audience for this game. To incite curiosity and exploration in kids.
Nothing wrong with this. Doesn't mean we adults can't enjoy a game like this too. But at least understand the targeted audience here.
God forbid Nintendo going of script time to time and try something new, instead of EA, Activision, Ubisoft, TT, 2K, etc who keep pushing out the same rehashed package every single year.
@AG_Awesome They didn't even do it for Lego City Undercover.
It still looks like a low resolution blurry mess on the Switch 2, but at least we get a free bonus of fast loading times by just running the game on the Switch 2, thanks to the super fast nVMe storage.
@Bobb This has happened during game development through the ages.
Someone makes a new game, becomes a smash hit and suddenly tons of game studios follow suit and make similar games in hope to replicate it's success.
Nintendo and TPC could have looked at Palworld's success and see it as an opportunity, instead of turning into a pathetic tantrum toddler that can't handle competition and instead try to shut them down.
@Pillowpants Everyone could have gone behind that, if that's what Nintendo would have tried instead.
It would, at most, forced PocketPair to change some of the animal designs.
But these game mechanic patents are pathetic... if Nintendo was so concerned, they would have sued other Pocket monster clones long ago, like TemTem, etc.
It was only because Palworld blew up and became a huge hit, that Nintendo / TPC felt threatened by competition for the first time, they turned into a Patent troll.
Just pathetic and disappointing to see what Nintendo is turning into.
@8bit-Man The Switch 2 is a massive upgrade compared to the Switch 1.
The last 2-3 generations of Playstation and XBOX consoles have basically also been iterations.
Just because the exterior design is completely different, doesn't take away the fact it has been iterative upgrades from generation to the next.
It's why they PS5 has backwards compatibility to PS4. XBOX Series X/S having backwards compatibility to One.
For us gamers, this is actually a huge positive. As we can keep on using our past game catalog on our new consoles, instead of throwing them out the window along our old console and start all over again.
Especially with Nintendo, which sole business model for the past 20+ years was to make you rebuy the same old games over and over and over again.
So in that essence... I am very happy with my Switch 2 console, where I can "FINALLY" continue on using/playing all my Switch 1 games.
@Haruki_NLI Here in Northern Europe the XBOX Series X got a brutal price hike to over 1000 euro.
The result? Retailers stopped selling it and the console can no longer be found on the shelves. As who in their right mind would buy a 5+ year old console for 1000 euro, when they can buy the PS5 Pro for almost the same price (1100 euro).
@GoatFace04 Yes but the Switch 2 has a huge ace up its sleeve running an NVidia SoC that supports DLSS.
Just look at what CDProjectRed managed to pull off with CP2077.
Its visually almost identical to the PS5 version. They only had to compromise on NPC density.
Though, to be honest, for immersion I would have rather seen some graphical compromises to have higher NPC density instead... since Night City looks kind of barren on the Switch 2 with so few NPCs roaming around.
Either way, its an impressive port that showcases the capabilities of the Switch 2.
I really love FFVII remake integrade and did already two full playthroughs.
FFVII rebirth on the other hand, got the Ubisoft open world treatment and is a repetitive borefest. /sigh
So I have been struggling on and off to get through the game and just keep parking it after some time and giving up.
Why on earth SE decided on this drastic change with Rebirth... we'll never know, but it was a colossal mistake.

Re: Nintendo Confirms Switch 2 Revision For Europe
Re: Nintendo Confirms Switch 2 Revision For Europe
Re: Nintendo Confirms Switch 2 Revision For Europe
Re: Nintendo Confirms Switch 2 Revision For Europe
@YANDMAN
The price rise is because of AI and them claiming all the RAM and m.2 nVMe storage, causing a huge shortage of these components and skyrocketing the prices of said components.
Re: Nintendo Confirms Switch 2 Revision For Europe
Re: Nintendo Confirms Switch 2 Revision For Europe
Re: Nintendo Confirms Switch 2 Revision For Europe
@ShadLink Bullocks.
Re: Valve Follows Switch 2, PS5 & Xbox With Major Steam Deck Price Hike
@whiteshadows86 It's hilarious, as it's not even a good controller. Especially for that price. So the scalpers can keep it lol.
Re: Valve Follows Switch 2, PS5 & Xbox With Major Steam Deck Price Hike
@Danny_ It's why the Steam machine (or cube) is put on hold. Most likely indefinitely for the time being.
Hence, why Valve has been completely silent.
It's no point releasing it now and having to price it so high, that only few can afford it.
More importantly, it will definitely not be good value for money.
Re: Valve Follows Switch 2, PS5 & Xbox With Major Steam Deck Price Hike
The problem is volume.
Valve produces at far lower volume than Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony.
So the big three can demand better component prices than Valve.
Valve most certainly has to pay the spot price for components, which is ridiculous right now.
Re: The Witcher 3 Is Getting A New Expansion, But Not On Switch
@elpardo1984 This, they most likely wait until the DLC is released and then announce a "complete" edition for the Switch 2.
Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Yoshi And The Mysterious Book?
Re: Rocket League Announces "New Era" Alongside Unreal Engine 6 Reveal
@thenikdavies Normally its years between UE releases. Often coinciding with Console generation releases.
But with the sudden AI boom.... UE 6 release seems to be accelerated to jump on the AI bandwagon. /puke
Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Yoshi And The Mysterious Book?
@MyUsernameWasTaken This.
Re: Don't Expect A Pokémon GO Sequel Any Time Soon
The only reason why they would release Pokemon GO 2, is when people stop spending money and the game is no longer profitable.
It's the classic way to reset the game and all micro transactions to make people buy everything again in a new, slightly flashier game.
Re: Round Up: The Reviews For Lego Batman: Legacy Of The Dark Knight Are In
@AG_Awesome They didn't even do it for Lego City Undercover.
It still looks like a low resolution blurry mess on the Switch 2, but at least we get a free bonus of fast loading times by just running the game on the Switch 2, thanks to the super fast nVMe storage.
Re: Round Up: The Reviews For Lego Batman: Legacy Of The Dark Knight Are In
It's TT games. So expect a minimal effort Switch port with blurry/inferior graphics and sketchy performance.
But hey.... at least the good ol' Lego City Undercover is finally playable on the Switch 2, with finally on-par load times as other platforms.
Re: Pocketpair Continues To Defy Nintendo With New Palworld Trademark
@Bobb This has happened during game development through the ages.
Someone makes a new game, becomes a smash hit and suddenly tons of game studios follow suit and make similar games in hope to replicate it's success.
Nintendo and TPC could have looked at Palworld's success and see it as an opportunity, instead of turning into a pathetic tantrum toddler that can't handle competition and instead try to shut them down.
Re: Pocketpair Continues To Defy Nintendo With New Palworld Trademark
@Pillowpants Everyone could have gone behind that, if that's what Nintendo would have tried instead.
It would, at most, forced PocketPair to change some of the animal designs.
But these game mechanic patents are pathetic... if Nintendo was so concerned, they would have sued other Pocket monster clones long ago, like TemTem, etc.
It was only because Palworld blew up and became a huge hit, that Nintendo / TPC felt threatened by competition for the first time, they turned into a Patent troll.
Just pathetic and disappointing to see what Nintendo is turning into.
Re: Nintendo's President Apparently Wants Switch 2 To Match The Long Lifespan Of The Original System
Re: Nintendo Announces Sweeping Price Hikes For Switch 2
@Haruki_NLI Here in Northern Europe the XBOX Series X got a brutal price hike to over 1000 euro.
The result? Retailers stopped selling it and the console can no longer be found on the shelves. As who in their right mind would buy a 5+ year old console for 1000 euro, when they can buy the PS5 Pro for almost the same price (1100 euro).
Re: Round Up: The Previews Are In For Final Fantasy VII Rebirth's Switch 2 Port
Re: Hands On: Is Final Fantasy VII Rebirth's Switch 2 Port The Most Ambitious Yet?
@DennisReynolds Not the old original no.
Re: Hands On: Is Final Fantasy VII Rebirth's Switch 2 Port The Most Ambitious Yet?
I really love FFVII remake integrade and did already two full playthroughs.
FFVII rebirth on the other hand, got the Ubisoft open world treatment and is a repetitive borefest. /sigh
So I have been struggling on and off to get through the game and just keep parking it after some time and giving up.
Why on earth SE decided on this drastic change with Rebirth... we'll never know, but it was a colossal mistake.
Re: Bandai Namco Reveals Digimon Story Time Stranger Switch Performance And Resolution
@KociolekDoSyta Which means the game will be terribly optimized and not able to even hit 30 fps during a lot of the more frentic (battle) scenes.
"up to" is the new tech buzz word for deceptive marketing or outright lying.
