It simply comes down to price. Most OLED screens support HDR, so it was a mystery as to why the Switch OLED didn’t support it.
Though, right now an OLED that also supports 120fps and VRR would have pushed the price of the Switch 2 too far up and on same level as PS5 and XBox series X.
People right now are already balking at the 400+ price tag.
Almost all problems at launch were on the PS4 and XBox One.
I had the XBox One X scorpio edition console at the time and the game ran great with very little issues.
I heard it was the same on PS4 Pro.
And of course Xbox Series X amd PS5 had little to no issues either.
The initial reception of the game would have been much better if they didn’t release it on previous gen consoles.
Right now, after Phantom Liberty together with the skill tree revamp, it has become my all time favorite game.
Just playing another playthrough…… again.
The voice acting and motion capture is on a different level and V being fully voiced as well is so incredibly immersive.
PS. No disrespect to the author, but maybe he shouldn’t review shooter games. The gun gameplay in this game is simply amazing. Especially after the skill tree revamp that came with the expansion.
I mean, if you only played one of the first missions in ACT.1 with V having barely any skills and a crappy starter weapon. He also has barely any defense against cyberware attacks.
It’s an RPG, so the game will only really open up in ACT.2, with V having unlocked more skills and perks and gained access to better weapons.
@AlleyCat It means that the game with default English language pack will be on the cartridge, so if you play in English it will not require any additional downloads.
This makes sense, because Voice over/language packs take up a huge chunk of storage.
@Pat_trick Again! Because there was no significant difference between the PS4 and PS5 with Forbidden West. This game did not have a native PS5 version. The PS5 upgrade was free, because it mostly just unlocked 60fps and offered 4K 30fps upscaling in quality mode. On PS4 Pro you could run it at max.1800p 60fps.
So on the PS5 you basically just got the quality mode option that upscales to 4K 30fps.
So, again 2: Paid PS5 version upgrades offer a native PS5 version of the game with native 4K support. Hence the upgrade price tag.
Again, that some third party publishers offered such upgrades for free, that is their own decision outside of Sony. Also, since these free upgrades are/were on multi platform games available also on XBOX and PC. Like CP2077, Witcher 3, etc.
So Sony would have shot themselves in the foot (and created another outrage), if they enforced a 10 bucks upgrade price tag for all publishers on PS5, while players on XBox and PC could get it for free.
@Pat_trick Those are 3rd party studio decisions to make an upgrade for free or not.
Just like CDProject Red offered a free major GFX update to CP2077 with RTX, etc. Same for Witcher 3 with the nextgen update.
When it comes to Nintendo, the two Zelda games will get a major GFX upgrade, with better visuals and support 4K 60 FPS among things, hence the upgrade price tag.
Just like with the PS5 versions I had to pay 10 bucks for, where the PS4 version was locked to 1080p.
The other games, like Pokemon Scarlet & Violet get a free upgrade, since they not going to do anything with those games other than unlock the 30fps framerate lock (like what was leaked some time ago) to enable a speed bump in performance on the Switch 2. They won't get any visual upgrade nor support for 4K 60FPS. Probably not even DLSS support for upscaling. Hence why it will be free.
@The-Chosen-one It's definitely amazing, as its the best looking and most amazing open world game to date.
Just can't get enough and just playing yet another play through again lol.
I am pretty sure it won't have Ray tracing support, since it's not mentioned during the Direct yesterday and would have been a major GFX feature to omit in the Switch 2 announcement.
Not surprised either, as RTX support would be impossible in such a small console without causing GFX power demand and cooling issues.
So the lack of RTX settings will greatly help with performance on the Switch 2. It will still look amazing though.
@Pat_trick Those were already released / old games on PS4 that were simply made compatible to run on PS5 LOL!
Newer games that actually released on both PS4 and PS5 simultaneously you had to pay a 10 dollar upgrade fee if you had bought the PS4 version and want to run the PS5 version.
I know, as I have both PS4 and PS5 and had to pay 10 bucks for some of the newer games I bought on the PS4, since I only got the PS5 less than 2 years ago.
This is also, because PS5 games are 10 USD/Euro more expensive.
So now we see the same thing happening with the Switch 2. Where new Switch 2 titles will have a 10 bucks price increase. Some games, with significant GFX update will have a 10 bucks upgrade price tag, while a bunch of Switch 1 titles will have a free upgrade (i.e. Nintendo basically not doing anything, as the improved hardware of Switch 2 will give better performance for free).
Nintendo is notorious for cutting costs wherever they can to increase profit margins on their consoles and keep the price down.
Honestly, Everyone expected just a bog standard 1080p 60fps LCD panel at the launch for Switch 2, with an inevitable OLED version down the road.... because you know.... Nintendo.
So that the launch Switch 2 has a 1080p LCD screen "WITH" 120FPS, HDR and VRR is simply amazing coming from Nintendo. As DF pointed out, because of HDR support it might even be a cutting edge mini-LED LCD panel.
At least this would justify the higher price of the Switch 2 and I gladly pay it.
So yeah, its actually quite amazing and refreshing to see that Nintendo is finally trying to catch up and embrace the available/new technology.
@nocdaes I find it more baffling they release the game cube version of Zelda Wind Waker in NSO expansion pack, while they have the amazing remake of this game rusting away on the WiiU!!!!
Together with Twilight Princes HD, that is an even bigger crime in my book!
Not to mention the amazing Link wolf amiibo dusting away in a drawer. /sigh
Especially the last 2 years have frankly been quite abysmal with first party releases from Nintendo on the Switch 1, that they easily could have re-released those two Zelda games as a bridge towards the Switch 2 release.
The Switch 2 logo on the top makes sense, as a clear warning to people it's a Switch 2 game.
The info on the bottom however, It's a crazy stupid decision to be honest. This kind of information is usually on the back of the case.
Why in earth they decided to put that on the front beats me.
It's certainly distracting and unnecessary.
PS. Not that I care much about box art. I usually take the cartridge out and put it in the Switch carrier case game card slot sleeve and toss the case in some drawer, collecting dust.
@rjejr You started with that you wished the Switch didn't have a screen and then I said, well then it wouldn't be a Switch anymore.
The Switch Lite is just an answer for the 3DS handheld crowd that wanted something more compact.
Remember that the 2DS/3DS consoles is one of the most selling consoles of all time.
But like I said, I have not seen any total sales numbers for the Lite console if it really is all that successful.
It's whole lot different to go the other direction with releasing a TV only Switch console, because people then automatically expect and demand much better hardware. That never gonna happen and will be pointless for Nintendo, since the Switch will sell the most units, because of its versatility and as such game studios will optimize their games for the Switch anyway.
The Switch Lite was for people that wanted something more compact and lighter as handheld.
It had the exact same hardware ( SoC ) as the regular Switch. Just not detachable JoyCons.
(though I have never seen actual sales figures to figure out if it was really popular enough, since it had a lot of drawbacks. No docking and no detachable joycons to more easily fix joystick drift issues).
Nintendo is not going back to traditional TV only console. It is also pointless as they cannot put better hardware in it, since Developers will optimize for the weakest hardware (aka Switch handheld).
When it comes to 4K upscaling for TV, Nintendo has you already covered with the Switch 2, as it will have a brand-new co-developed NVidia SoC that will support DLSS.
@Daniel36 Yeah I know, but it was still a unique and great game though. They just messed up a little with the Darkzone PVP and never got it right, but the PVE part of the game was amazing and I had a blast. Played it on and off for years with friends.
I also enjoyed Division 2, though the Washington setting was just not as impressive as the New York setting of Division 1 (hence why they went back to NY with the expansion lol). I just missed roaming through the abandoned subway tunnels in NY in Division 1.
@rjejr Well it wouldn't be a Switch anymore if they remove the screen.
The whole point of the Switch is that you can seamlessly switch between handheld and docked mode. That is the whole strength and success of the Switch console.
@SurprisedRobinChu Yeah but Ray Tracing is supported both NVidia and AMD cards with hardware acceleration.
They should have developed their Ray Tracing mod more and make it compatible with the entire game, instead of a few pre-generated maps.
If this (yet another preview) version requires a high end PC, just like the current "official" Ray Tracing mod (which is still in preview/demo for how many years now?). Then forget it! It won't come to any console any time soon.
Either way, this one could be a bit more hopeful if its just an enhanced Shader update. So we'll see.
@rjejr I bought the Playstation Portal two weeks ago, which has an 8inch 1080p LCD screen. It's gorgeous!
So I hope the Switch 2 will boost the same screen. Then I will be a happy camper.
I mean, with up to a 7inch screen, they could get away with 720p (though you do notice the pixels). But now they increase the size to 8inch, then you definitely going to notice it if they stick to 720p. It will look very grainy.
It would be very disappointing if Nintendo would skimp on that and stick to 720p on 8inch.
They don't have to release any new version. So I don't know why people get upset or surprised about this?
People seem to forget that the Switch 2 will be backwards compatible with Switch 1.
All they will do is unlock 60FPS on the Switch 2. Which I hope they will do with other Switch 1 games, like the Zelda games ( BOTW, TOTK) and Pokemon Scarlet/Violet for example.
I myself would love to replay Pokemon Violet on the Switch 2 with actual decent performance / framerates.
If PocketPair had actually stolen assets (which has been debunked), they would be liable of theft! Which is far more serious than for example a Copyright infringement.
@dkxcalibur If Pocketpair had infringed on that kind of Copyright (IP, Art), then Nintendo / TPC would have immediately sued them and pulled a CoD. Like they always do.
The Pokemon Company is now trying to file new patents on very broad creature capture/taming and pet mechanics!
Not to mention trying to shoehorn them into old parent patents. Which is even more dangerous, as it would give them legal power to go after older competitor games, like Yo-kai Watch, Digimon, TemTem, etc.
This should not be allowed to file such patents! Catching creatures and using them as pets goes way back till D&D first edition with pet classes.
Many RPG games have create capture and pet class mechanics.
In essence, Nintendo, the Pokemon Company and any other Game studio out there developing/releasing RPG games is riding on the success and ideas of the original D&D. The grandfather of RPG game systems.
If Gary Gygax had patented his RPG attribute and Class systems, we would never seen the emergence of RPG games.
As why stop there? Next, a huge Game publisher like EA, Tencent, ActiVision or Ubisoft is going to patent FPS mechanics.
As why stop there? .... you starting to see the problem with this?
Again. We are not talking about Copyright here (like protecting art assets, IP, etc) , but The Pokemon Company trying to patent game mechanics!
@Folkloner You are parroting disinformation by overzealous fans!
This has been long debunked and proven that they did not steal Pokemon assets!
This is also not a Copyright lawsuit, but Pokemon Company being sleazy and scared about Palworld's success and trying to sue them on patents they filed AFTER the release of Palworld, but trying to shove it under older Parent patents in an attempt to make them valid!
If you and other commentors cannot see the danger here if The Pokemon Company ends up being successful in retro-actively enforcing new patents this way.
This would mean that any huge company with big pockets and big time lawyers can go after smaller companies as a Patent troll and so destroy any competition and in effect create a Monopoly!
It will stifle game development and would be the end of Indie developers, who will not dare developing any new game anymore out of fear being destroyed by a competitor that might see them as a threat.
@Bunkerneath No one in their right mind would buy a Steam deck today. Especially for the price it's going here in Europe.
I can buy the new Rog Ally X for less than the Steam deck OLED is going for here.
Unless you into purely retro gaming, the hardware in Steam deck is sorely outdated and Valve needs to come up with a new gen Steam deck this year to stay relevant.
None of the latest big titles run on Steam deck and if they do, good luck playing it in a blurry stuttering mess.
Seeing how good XBox Cloud is today (took a while to get there), Microsoft could just launch a PS Portal competitor focused on XBox Cloud gaming. This way they can keep the price low, like the Portal.
I am all for it, to be honest, seeing how quickly the hardware in these handhelds (that run games natively) get outdated.
It's why I didn't buy Steam deck or any of these PC handhelds. Paying up to over 1000 euro for a handheld that will be outdated again in 2-3 years.
@N00BiSH They have already been doing that with PC Gamepass and XBox GamePass Ultimate (which I have).
I really like XBox Gamepass Ultimate and XBox in general in that a lot of games I buy on XBox I can download natively on my PC via the XBox App and so choose whenever I want to play on TV or retreat back to my PC (when TV is occupied).
Then with Ultimate I also have access to XBox Cloud gaming, which works great too now.
Since I also own a PS5 and Sony finally added Cloud streaming to the Portal, I just bought the Portal. Really nice handheld device and the 8inch screen is perfect. So gives me an idea how gaming will be on the Switch 2 with a larger 8inch screen.
It's still a bit small though for certain games, where its hard to read the text still.
I can understand the need to keep pushing out articles to keep the Switch 2 hype alive for clicks.
But seriously? Had anyone truly expected the Switch 2 to not have WiFi6 and NFC?
Amiibo's are a huge success for Nintendo and they can't make enough of them at times. So why would they stop with these on the Switch 2? Just leaving the obvious out of it (backwards compatibility with Switch 1).
@IceClimbers It doesn't. Maybe in Japan? And this video is 11 months old.
Here in Europe it sucks and lets not even start with PS Remote Play, with it's horrendous low resolution!
Complaints about PS Remote play is nothing new. It's been an issue since PS4 and Sony doesn't give a darn.
They just had to come up with PS+ Premium, as answer to XBox Gamepass success.
If it was up to Sony, they rather don't have PS+ Premium and just want to sell you new games 20 bucks more expensive than on other platforms!
XBox GamePass is much better value, it has a better game catalogue and all new First Party releases are available on Day 1.
Something Sony refuses to do! Not only do they charge a hell lot more for PS+ Premium, but they also delay First Party releases with at least a year, before they become available. They know people are desperate, gullible and pay 90+ bucks on release day to play the new game on day one and then also double dip on PS+ Premium.
Mind you. I have both XBOX Series X and PS5. I had PS+ Premium for a year until last year Summer, due to a deal when I bought the PS5 (basically got a whole year of PS+ Premium for just 30 bucks extra, with purchase of the PS5 at the time). So I had a whole year to test it out and compare to XBOX GamePass Ultimate. But when I saw the price for renewal for PS+ Premium, I was literally shocked and just had to laugh and cancel.
Cloud Gaming performance is probably very region dependent. Also XBOX Cloud uses Microsoft Azure and especially in East US, the Azure Data Centers have been at capacity for a while and MS is struggling to resolve the issue, trying to expand existing regions with new data centers, etc to relieve the pressure on East US region Data centers.
So this could result in issues with XBox Cloud gaming in East US, with there simply not being enough capacity at peak times.
MS can't just pop up new Data Centers left and right. It's not that simple. There is a lot of regulation involved, security, power demands and planning, before the first shovel goes into the ground. It can take several years (at least) to get a new Data Center up and running.
@Clyde_Radcliffe The vast majority of people buying consoles, buy them for plug and play ease of use and couch gaming in front of their TV.
Gaming PC's are all but plug and play and ease of use.
That is the main attraction of gaming consoles. Die-hard gamers already play on PC (like me) and buy consoles for couch gaming in front of the big TV to relax.
The Nintendo Switch I buy mostly for handheld gaming. Even if Nintendo games won't be exclusive to their console anymore, I would still buy the Switch for exactly that. Handheld gaming. Easy to take with me when spending week/weeks at family house far away and plug it in a second dock there.
Also, there is a big difference with Sony and MS owning a handful studios that make first party games exclusive for their console (like Nintendo, SEGA and ATARI did and still do (in Nitnendo's case) since the 80's).
The problem is Sony's behavior of aggressively signing timed exclusive deals for major games and when they didn't get it their way, outright buying the studios and make them completely exclusive.
This behavior started the exclusives war between MS and Sony, with MS being forced to start doing the same. To a point that even Nintendo started joining the fray and buying studios to secure exclusive releases.
This is not good for us gamers, as we end up having to buy all three consoles just to get access to all games.
Before PS4/XBox One era, I could justify buying a Nintendo console as second console next to either a PS or XBOX, since Nintendo consoles were always cheap.
For me personally, I always liked/prefered the XBOX, but when the exclusives war became so extreme during the XBOX One / PS4 era, it just sucked that I was forced to also buy a PS4 and then later a PS5, next to my XBOX because so many games I like to play were locked to Playstation.
Back in the XBOX1 and XBOX360 times, there were really few exclusives, so just owning an XBOX360 was enough for me and I didn't miss out on much by not owning the PS3 at the time.
In the end though. Home consoles are going extinct. XBOX Cloud gaming is already so good and I believe this is MS strategy on the longterm.
Google was just too early and too ambitious with Stadia. The idea was good, it was just too early and the execution was poor as well.
Microsoft's strategy is much better, with XBOX Cloud gaming being included in the GamePass Ultimate subscription.
It's really amazing and I use it often. Just lying in bed in the evening, gaming on my MacBook Air.
Here Sony is woefully behind (and Nintendo isn't even trying), as even PS Remoteplay is still terrible today.
@Clyde_Radcliffe Phil has been trying to break the Console exclusive barrier for years, but Sony won't budge and insists on Console exclusivity and locking games to their console. Which is bad for us gamers.
But when MS is forced to counter with own exclusives due to Sony's behavior (and stay in business), then Sony suddenly goes into a hypocritical hissy fit against MS!
So in Sony's eyes it's perfectly fine for them to make as much exclusive and locked to Sony consoles, but the moment their big competitor MS tries to do the same, then suddenly MS is a boogeyman abusing their Market position lol.
The whole console exclusives war was started by Sony and there is only one victim in this, which is us gamers!
And people (mostly blind deluded Sony fanbois) that want XBOX to go out of business are completely out of their mind.
If XBOX goes out of business, then Sony becomes the sole Monopoly on console market and will continue to lock as many games as possible to their console and then jack up the prices even more.
So in the end, we as gamers loose and many people won't be able to afford to play games anymore.
Is that what you anti-XBOX people want? Pay 150+ bucks for major new games that can only be bought and played on PS?
@SpaceboyScreams I have both PS5 and XBOX Series X and almost all multiplatform titles I buy on XBOX. Simply because Sony has gone completely mad with their price gauging of games.
Then you have Game Pass Ultimate, which is almost half price of what Sony currently charges for their PS+ Premium plan!
Console games on latest generation had already gone up by 10 bucks compared to PC version pricing, but Sony has now added another 10+ bucks premium on top of their PS5 game prices.
The average standard edition game release on XBOX is currently around 70-80 USD/Euro, while on PS5 it sits currently at 90 USD/Euro.
While on PC it average price still sits around 60-65 USD/Euro.
Digital releases used to be around 10% cheaper (since you don't have the costs of physical media), but now it has become the opposite where physical PS5 games are often 10% cheaper in stores than digital on PS Store! Absolutely nuts!
Sony is actually finally being sued for this price gauging. Abusing their current market lead position and hurting sales for independent studios.
@danzoEX We don't know if it's right around the corner.
The official reveal will be in April and at best we look at October release, maybe even November. In the past Nintendo (and MS, Sony) announce a console at least 6 months in advance of the actual release.
The Switch 1 was officially revealed in September and didn't release until March the following year.
It's highly unlikely Nintendo will put the new Switch 2 on the shelves right before the Summer. It would make more sense to capitalize on Holiday sales later in the year. We already know that the new Pokemon game will be a launch title and we haven't seen any official launch date for that game either. Nor for Metroid Prime for that matter.
So right now, we realistically look at a Q4 2025 release window for the Switch 2, along with Pokemon and Metroid Prime (if this latter one doesn't get delayed again).
@Murasaki_Nichirin @Cathalm I know Nintendo goes even after their own fans and strike them down with CoD's and Copyright strikes.
We all know Nintendo is fierce in this and they don't wait two years!
If there was any copyright infringement done by Creature pal, Nintendo would have immediately striken them down right after the release of Palworld! The game released in 2023! The playstation release was just couple months back, but it has been available on PC and XBOX for almost 2 years now.
As that is how you do it. You immediately want to take IP theft down as quick as possible!
This is how IP laws work. The longer you wait, the weaker your case gets. Hence, why Nintendo always strikes first, ask questions later.
So yes my point still stands and is still valid! It's too much of a coincidence that right after the Palworld coming to Playstation announcement, Nintendo suddenly dropped the lawsuit.
As at this point, this long after Palworld's initial release.... it's just a petty lawsuit, due to the ongoing Rivalry between Sony and Nintendo in Japan.
PS. The "Pokemon with Guns" meme was created by the game press and is just that. A meme!
If you had actually played Palworld, you would know it's far from a Pokemon game and more like Ark:Survival with creature catching mechanics like Pokemon/Digimon/etc.
Like I said earlier. TemTem is in fact far closer to an actual Pokemon clone, as it literally and actually plays like Pokemon game, with three starter pokemon's, trainer rival, gym battles, pokemon centers, etc, etc.
If Nintendo was really upset with the creature designs in Palworld, they would have immediately filed a lawsuit for plagiarism and not wait two years, which is debatable. Since plagiarism would be if they would have stolen assets from Pokemon games and then importing them into their own game (like some overzealous fans claimed at first and then was publicly debunked).
There are similarities sure, just like TemTem has creatures with similarities, but it's not enough to sue them for plagiarism!
No. Nintendo was waiting for these new patents to come through, but when Palworld was going to release on Playstation... that was the ultimate trigger to suddenly Sue them.
Even though the patents are still pending and I sincerely hope they get rejected!
As those two patents in question are way too broad and would put almost every single current and future RPG at risk!
It would be the end for creature capture/collecting games and player ridable mounts in games.
Nintendo is in much need for internal self-reflection! Especially after the disgrace that was Pokemon Scarlet/Violet!
They should look as to what made Palworld such a success, learn from it and then make a better Pokemon game! More importantly, give Gamefreak the time they need, to finish their games at a quality we used to expect from Nintendo!
Or have we all forgotten the apology from Nintendo and their promise to fix the performance problems with Scarlet/Violet after the public outcry? What an empty apology and promise that was! All they cared about was pushing the two paid DLC's through our throat, collect more money from their gullible Pokemon fans and move on to the next game!
@Cathalm They are not going after the designs or they would have immediately sued them two years ago!
They specifically filed these new "game mechanics" patents right after Palworld's release.
Two years ago some crazy Pokemon fans were putting out fake articles with fake photo's claiming that Pocket Pair had exported the 3D models from Pokemon games and use them in Palworld. With that "fake" information they tried to pressure Nintendo / Pokemon Company to sue Pocket Pair.
This was quickly debunked shortly after. Just some zealous Pokemon fans that were upset that Palworld was a bigger success than the latest Pokemon games.
So no... Nintendo didn't take any action. It was after Pocket Pair announced a deal with Sony to release Palworld on Playstation.
Then directly after Nintendo filed the lawsuit!
That is just pettiness! Nothing more. Nothing less.
Palworld is not a Pokemon carbon copy. The game incorporates a lot of different genres into one. It's first and foremost a Survival game, like Ark:Survival with added Pokemon mechanics.
If you want to look at a more direct copy of a Pokemon Game, then look at TemTem. The only difference is that they use digital square discs instead of round balls to catch creatures.
So why didn't Nintendo file these ridiculous patents back then and went after TemTem developers?
No they didn't. They were about to let the Palworld devs off the hook, until they made the mistake to launch it on the Playstation. Then the execs at Nintendo got into an angry fit and sued them. All because of this stupid rivalry between Sony and Nintendo in Japan.
@Cathalm How so? There shouldn't be any patents in game design.
All it does is stifles game development and especially hurt Indie developers who don't have the funds to hire top lawyers to fight it.
This sets a very bad precedent and eventually Game Developers will be targeted by patent trolls as well.
This is just very bad overall!
Fore example. Can you imagine what would happen if someone had managed to successfully patent core game mechanics like RPG stat, skill and leveling systems?
Nintendo is literally turning into a Patent troll company and it just makes me sad!
Seriously! Patenting creature catching mechanics. Patenting switching out creatures to ride on? Any idea how many (RPG) games use such mechanics? It's not just Palworld.
Just the creature catching mechanic patent would target a whole host of games, like Digimon, Yo-kai Watch, TemTem, etc.
Monster taming in general is a catching mechanic and exist in a whole host of RPG games, like World of Warcraft, EverQuest 2, Lord of the Rings Online, Ark:Survival, etc, etc.
The fact that Nintendo tries to shoe-horn these new patents into an existing Parent patent, just shows how scummy they are!
They also filed the lawsuit, after Palworld announced to release on Playstation. So this lawsuit is just driven by ongoing hate&rivalry between Sony and Nintendo.
It's honestly disgusting and I am starting to hate Nintendo more and more lately. The late Satoru Iwata must be turning in his grave to see what is happening to his beloved company.
What is there to patent? It's automatic screen rotation, like any Smart Phone or tablet has for the last 15 years or so.
It's a neat feature for the Switch 2 to have, if the Joy-Con's can be connected bi-directional, so you can decide if you want the USB and headphone jack on top or bottom during your handheld sessions.
That was different. Both naming and marketing around the WiiU was a confusing mess! Like the whole marketing department at Nintendo was run by interns at the time.
The Switch 2 is a logical name. The Switch has developed in a huge and very succesful brandname.
People know what it is and what to expect.
Calling it Switch 2 is just logical. People know and recognize immediately what it is. It's a new generation Switch console. Just like how Playstation has been branding their new generation consoles for the past 20+ years.
It's really sad they dropped the ball so terribly with New Horizon's.
It's almost unbecoming of Nintendo.... when we had New Leaf on the 3DS.
Nintendo literally and utterly ignored the Animal Crossing fanbase.
The paid DLC was just the standalone Home Designer game slapped onto New Horizon's, without actually adding any of the highly requested missing features from previous games.
This paid Home Designer DLC was just sleezy cash grab by Nintendo to try justify the new Expansion Tier in Nintendo Online subscription.
@Waveboy I have actually high hopes for the new NVidia SoC that is supposed to be in the Switch 2.
Since it was specifically developed for the Switch 2.
You have to remember that the Tegra X1 SoC was never meant for handheld devices. It was originally developed for the NVidia shield, which was a so called Mini-computer connected to Power at all times and with a Chassis large enough for proper cooling.
The Tegra X1 SoC can run at 2GHz on the old NVidia Shield, but on the Nintendo Switch it had to be dialed back to around 1,2 GHz when docked and dialed back even further down to 600-700MHz in handheld mode. All due to cooling challenges and having enough battery life in handheld mode.
So the Tegra X1 is severely held back in the current Switch and it's frankly a miracle that the current games manage to run on the Switch as they do. Mostly thanks to the 4GB onboard RAM.
At that time of the Switch launch the Tegra X1 SoC was already 4 years old.

It simply comes down to price. Most OLED screens support HDR, so it was a mystery as to why the Switch OLED didn’t support it.

Re: Nintendo Switch 2 Edition Game Upgrade Pack Prices Seemingly Revealed (Japan)
Re: Switch 2 Support To Be Made Available Soon In Unity Game Engine
@The-Chosen-one It's definitely amazing, as its the best looking and most amazing open world game to date.
Just can't get enough and just playing yet another play through again lol.
I am pretty sure it won't have Ray tracing support, since it's not mentioned during the Direct yesterday and would have been a major GFX feature to omit in the Switch 2 announcement.
Not surprised either, as RTX support would be impossible in such a small console without causing GFX power demand and cooling issues.
So the lack of RTX settings will greatly help with performance on the Switch 2. It will still look amazing though.
Re: Nintendo Switch 2 Edition Game Upgrade Pack Prices Seemingly Revealed (Japan)
Re: Nintendo Switch 2 Includes Support For Variable Refresh Rate Technology
@skywake I think you missed his point!
Re: Nintendo Switch 2 Edition Game Upgrade Pack Prices Seemingly Revealed (Japan)
Re: Yep, Metroid Prime 4's Box Art For Switch 2 Is Ruined
The Switch 2 logo on the top makes sense, as a clear warning to people it's a Switch 2 game.
The info on the bottom however, It's a crazy stupid decision to be honest. This kind of information is usually on the back of the case.
Why in earth they decided to put that on the front beats me.
It's certainly distracting and unnecessary.
PS. Not that I care much about box art. I usually take the cartridge out and put it in the Switch carrier case game card slot sleeve and toss the case in some drawer, collecting dust.
Re: Switch 2 Games Cost A Bit More Than You're Probably Expecting
Switch 2 games will now be on par with Xbox and PS5 game prices.
Inflation sucks.

Re: A Hidden 60fps Mode In Xenoblade Chronicles X Gives Us Hope For A Switch 2 Upgrade
Re: A Hidden 60fps Mode In Xenoblade Chronicles X Gives Us Hope For A Switch 2 Upgrade
@rjejr You completely miss the point.
Re: Switch 2's Pre-Order Date Might Have Been Accidentally Leaked By Best Buy
@dazzleshell Exactly. Typical clickbait nothing burger.
Of course Pre-orders will go live right after the Switch 2 direct.
What people are more interested in, is the actual date you can pick up the Switch 2, which can be as far as Nov/Dec 2025.
Re: Ubisoft Opens New Subsidiary Backed By Tencent For Assassin's Creed And Other IP
Re: Ubisoft Opens New Subsidiary Backed By Tencent For Assassin's Creed And Other IP
@8bit-Man Well, TenCent is the most greedy Game publisher on the planet. So them slowly buying up Ubisoft is the perfect marriage.
Like I said in my previous post. They deserve each other.
( It's sad really what has become of Ubisoft, as they used to make some great games. I had such a blast playing The Division back in the day ).
Re: Ubisoft Opens New Subsidiary Backed By Tencent For Assassin's Creed And Other IP
@Mariotag Well TenCent is ten times worse (no pun intended).
So they deserve each other.
Re: A Hidden 60fps Mode In Xenoblade Chronicles X Gives Us Hope For A Switch 2 Upgrade
@rjejr Well it wouldn't be a Switch anymore if they remove the screen.
The whole point of the Switch is that you can seamlessly switch between handheld and docked mode.
That is the whole strength and success of the Switch console.
Re: Minecraft Is Getting A Graphics Upgrade
@SurprisedRobinChu Yeah but Ray Tracing is supported both NVidia and AMD cards with hardware acceleration.
They should have developed their Ray Tracing mod more and make it compatible with the entire game, instead of a few pre-generated maps.
If this (yet another preview) version requires a high end PC, just like the current "official" Ray Tracing mod (which is still in preview/demo for how many years now?). Then forget it! It won't come to any console any time soon.
Either way, this one could be a bit more hopeful if its just an enhanced Shader update. So we'll see.
Re: A Hidden 60fps Mode In Xenoblade Chronicles X Gives Us Hope For A Switch 2 Upgrade
Re: A Hidden 60fps Mode In Xenoblade Chronicles X Gives Us Hope For A Switch 2 Upgrade
Re: Pocketpair Recalls "Depressing Day" Nintendo Announced Its Palworld Lawsuit
@Mesozoic_Masquerade Stop spreading misinformation!
If PocketPair had actually stolen assets (which has been debunked), they would be liable of theft! Which is far more serious than for example a Copyright infringement.
Re: Pocketpair Recalls "Depressing Day" Nintendo Announced Its Palworld Lawsuit
@dkxcalibur If Pocketpair had infringed on that kind of Copyright (IP, Art), then Nintendo / TPC would have immediately sued them and pulled a CoD. Like they always do.
Re: Pocketpair Recalls "Depressing Day" Nintendo Announced Its Palworld Lawsuit
@Daniel36 They are not going after Copyright!
Re: Pocketpair Recalls "Depressing Day" Nintendo Announced Its Palworld Lawsuit
Re: Rumour: Xbox Expected To Join Switch 2 With A New Handheld This Year
@Bunkerneath No one in their right mind would buy a Steam deck today.
Re: Rumour: Xbox Expected To Join Switch 2 With A New Handheld This Year
@N00BiSH They have already been doing that with PC Gamepass and XBox GamePass Ultimate (which I have).
Re: Switch 2 Will Support NFC, According To New FCC Filings
I can understand the need to keep pushing out articles to keep the Switch 2 hype alive for clicks.
But seriously? Had anyone truly expected the Switch 2 to not have WiFi6 and NFC?
Amiibo's are a huge success for Nintendo and they can't make enough of them at times. So why would they stop with these on the Switch 2? Just leaving the obvious out of it (backwards compatibility with Switch 1).
Re: Pokémon Legends: Z-A Trailer Confirms Starters And Mega Evolutions, Coming Late 2025
@PikminMarioKirby Gen 10 is most likely coming in 2026.
With so many spin-offs getting focus, it seems we are looking at a 3 year interval between Mainline games from now on.
It wouldn't be a bad thing, if they kept on supporting the current mainline games with more expansion/DLC releases.
Re: Pokémon Legends: Z-A Trailer Confirms Starters And Mega Evolutions, Coming Late 2025
@iLikeUrAttitude Especially if this was recorded on Switch 2 Devkit. Outch.
Re: Xbox Head "Excited" About Switch 2 And Multiplatform Releases
Re: Xbox Head "Excited" About Switch 2 And Multiplatform Releases
Re: Xbox Head "Excited" About Switch 2 And Multiplatform Releases
Be careful what you wish for!
Re: Xbox Head "Excited" About Switch 2 And Multiplatform Releases
Re: Switch OLED Mario Wonder Bundle Revealed Ahead Of Mario Day (US)
@danzoEX We don't know if it's right around the corner.
Re: UK Charts: Civilization VII Starts Strong, Switch Version Outsells PC And Xbox
@TimGibson No it's not. XBOX gamers are just smarter and read the bad reviews first and thus didn't waste their money on a terrible game.
Re: Nintendo's Palworld Lawsuit Might Go International As New Patents Land U.S. Approval
Re: Nintendo's Palworld Lawsuit Might Go International As New Patents Land U.S. Approval
@Murasaki_Nichirin Have you seen TemTem?
Re: Nintendo's Palworld Lawsuit Might Go International As New Patents Land U.S. Approval
Re: Nintendo's Palworld Lawsuit Might Go International As New Patents Land U.S. Approval
@Murasaki_Nichirin What plagiarism lol?
Re: Nintendo's Palworld Lawsuit Might Go International As New Patents Land U.S. Approval
Re: Switch 2 Patent Suggests You Can Flip The Console Upside Down
What is there to patent? It's automatic screen rotation, like any Smart Phone or tablet has for the last 15 years or so.
It's a neat feature for the Switch 2 to have, if the Joy-Con's can be connected bi-directional, so you can decide if you want the USB and headphone jack on top or bottom during your handheld sessions.
Re: Ex-PlayStation Boss On Switch 2's Name: Nintendo Created So Much "Brand Value"
People need to let the WiiU go.
Re: Animal Crossing: New Horizons Gets Limited In-Game Event In Japan
It's really sad they dropped the ball so terribly with New Horizon's.
It's almost unbecoming of Nintendo.... when we had New Leaf on the 3DS.
Nintendo literally and utterly ignored the Animal Crossing fanbase.
The paid DLC was just the standalone Home Designer game slapped onto New Horizon's, without actually adding any of the highly requested missing features from previous games.
This paid Home Designer DLC was just sleezy cash grab by Nintendo to try justify the new Expansion Tier in Nintendo Online subscription.
Re: Random: This Retro Gaming Handheld Sure Looks Familiar
Is this actually legit. Their website looks sketchy as hell.
Re: Nintendo Switch 2 Reveal Trailer Gives First Official Look At The New Console
Re: Nintendo Switch 2 Reveal Trailer Gives First Official Look At The New Console
Well that is an anti-climatic non-announcement.
So now we know "confirmed" how it looks, which we already knew from the recent accessory maker leak.
So why put out this trailer now? when you basically not revealing anything then what was already known.
No specs, no nothing.... so we are non the wiser lol.
But as we already knew and expected. The "actual" announcement isn't until April 2nd.
