this is a soft launch, imo. i'm going to try avoiding an inappropriate analogy, but i think the message is that even while it's still a soft launch, they're showing that they're already going big. that way when it's launching in earnest, they want to sow anticipation of it going even bigger.

they can jsut make a 3ds module for the switch. a lower half clamshell that holds the joycons, square touchscreen, stylus, cartridge slot, etc.

@BAN yep, they're legit. there are places where you can get the questionable stuff, but there are also places for legit stuff. i'd think that the only difference between the mini famicom and nes hardware is the embedded rom, and of course the case. that's why i question this shortage of parts.

aside from debug, those all look like options that a user should have access to.

in this particular asian region, mini famicoms are in every gaming shop in multiples. this might be another example of artifically inflating demand, even if they clearly don't need to. could be wrong.

@JHDK even with new games like the new dragon quest heroes ii, there is a chance that devs will base the switch version on the vita version of the game instead of the ps4. i guess this will be the case until the middleware catches up.

@manu0 whenever i upgraded my 3ds memory card, i just did a transfer of all content from one card to another. it was a completely different card, just with all the same stuff and it worked as i pop it in. i just assumed they made it easier for users to hot swap. i had no idea it HAD to be the exact same stuff all this time. yikes. hoo boy. nintendo, you better clarify this for the switch.

march 03 looks more and more like a soft launch. i guess christmas season is launch in anger when they can say 'go pay for online, we have loyal nintendo fans for you to play with', and there's a fuller library.

@PanurgeJr i think they mentioned that it's jsut five at the start, so yes there will be more. but we barely know who these starting five are to begin with. no reason given to care, either. if they're just placeholders for our joycon fists, then that's alright. but they gave them distinctive designs, they ought to make use of them.

@MitchVogel certain circles would likely be more into that milking game for all their own reasons. arms needs more characters with more depth, i think. personalities, backstories, etc, would go a long way into distinguishing them from just teh schoolgirl, the robot girl, the office guy, etc. also, dhalsim, jack, the guy from one piece, mister fantastic, plasticman, all sorts of guest stars would be fun, or at least their costumes.

from names we can't read and pronounce, we can now listen to chat we can't understand. i'd prefer voice activated chat instead. several preset lines that get uttered in the language of the receiver's console, activated by a voice command. say 'thanks' and the receiving switch hears 'domo arigato mr roboto'. say 'good game' and the receiver hears 'you were the reason we lost'. things like that.

@manu0 it would make no sense if you could only use one memory card per account. that means it probably makes perfect sense to someone at nintendo that you can only use one sd card per account.

@Damo it looks accessible enough to allow hot swapping. are the memory cards hot swappable?

i've seen more than one outlet say nier automata is to this generation what bayonetta was to the previous one, and devil may cry to the one before that, bring it on! i put off playing the demo until today when i finally got myself a ps4 pro.

@ThomasBW84 too bad. i thought external usb storage could be like a 'bank' for games that you could transfer in and out of the docked switches memory card. ah well.

looking at the picture up top, i see all of the sports could be played with joycons, and only football presents a problem.

@DiscoDriver44 it got remastered on current gen. now that i think about it, since the next mvc game is likely a main game for evo, maybe umvc3 would be a bit much.

@Solid_Stannis or they can use that milking table simulator in 1-2 switch so you can call yourself the milking master.

@CircuitWrangler3 agree. they would be voting for a game that hasn't come out yet on a system that hasn't come out yet. nobody's played it. arms needs a year to fester and develop first. it's the smash games i'm more curious about. will they be played on switches? it's a great platform to showcase the system, even if most of the people watching likely have it pre-ordered already.

if you took that charging grip; widened it so that when it has the joycons attached, it's as wide as the switch screen; then put a gigantic battery and external storage in it, you could have the bottom half of a clamshell for the switch.

i'm pre-ordering from a couple of real world stores here, and i won't be cancelling the other when the first arrives. it's for my annual christmas tournament among nephews and neices.

@jswhitfield8 the studio purchase might be to make rocksmith more of a game than a learning game.

@SanderEvers i do like the possibility that they were testing if they could influence apple's policies like this. if they did, it worked!

i suspect that the approval process for ios was still unresolved at the time of the direct, then someone at apple saw or heard about it and fast-tracked approval. or maybe the approval just took a day longer than anticipated.

@PlywoodStick not surprising, if you think about it. breath of the wild was originally a wii u game. the switch version is basically a remake, and remakes are hit or miss nowadays.

@Giygas_95 if you have a modern tv with frame interpolation, you can simulate 60fps. it's what they call the soap opera effect, i believe? won't work on handheld tho'.

btw it looks like the heroes ii version for the switch is based on the vita version.

the first heroes is one of those games that i really felt belonged on a nintendo platform. forget the stills. the important thing for this game is the frame rate. still images do not convey that.

i guess we're due a direct to fully explain all this.

@JaxonH i used to buy games only on discount from psn, but then i picked up an xbox one s and that controller is jsut so much better in the hands. since then, i've had no problem buying a 130 dollar game from xbox live, but refuse to buy anything with less than a 35% discount for playstation; superior graphics, exclusivity, and vr be damned. for switch, since the dlc situation with nintendo is much less warped, i might just be fine with regular price since i know there probably won't be a 50-100% dlc tax that goes with it. the dlc value with nintendo first parties is pretty high.

@clvr i think a great first step and possible testing the waters is a switch remake of the old grasshopper and platinum games, especially the ones not on the wii, like vanquish, shadows of the damned, lollipop chainsaw, revengeance, etc. mad world and the bayonettas are also a must. onechanbara if they can manage the rights to them.
