Another long week has now been and gone, with huge Nintendo eShop sales across Europe and North America, an internet-melting Pokémon character voice reveal, and even more bad news for Mario on 31st March next year.
With the weekend now finally upon us, though, it's time to discuss our weekend gaming plans. Members of Nintendo Life have done just that, and we'd love for you to join in via our comment section below. Enjoy!

Hello all! It's getting a bit chilly outside now, so this weekend I'll be cosying up with a couple of games from my backlog. Chiefly, I'm restarting Luigi's Mansion 3 from scratch (look, I'm just not ready for it to be Christmas yet; my brain still thinks it's Halloween) and I genuinely can't wait to get back into it.
With the news of an incoming sequel to The World Ends With You, I've also decided to give the Switch version another shot. I can definitely see why it's so beloved, but it never quite sunk its hooks into me; we'll see how it goes this time!

I’m looking to chill the beans right down after giving Calamity Ganon’s evil hordes a thrashing over the past couple of weeks. In fact, I may well return to Breath of the Wild for an altogether more sedate trip to Hyrule. I fired it up recently for work and was surprised at just how great BOTW still looks in this age of 4Ks and umpteen teraflops. Beautiful game.
Otherwise, I should really get back to my Animal Crossing island and I’d love to carry on with Control. Whatever happens, my absolute priority this week is to avoid the Cyber Deals sale at all costs. I’m a sucker for a deal, but it’s not much of a deal if you never get around to playing the game, is it?

What a strange Wiiware coincidence. I was planning to take a trip back to the BIT.TRIP series but might hold off until their re-release on Switch this very Christmas. Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a Dark Lord and Jett Rocket will suffice. On the Switch front progress continues in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, Hardcore Mecha, the charming puzzler platformer QV and the extremely “zentitude” of The Alto Collection.
My game of the week – no, of all time – is (despite these old reflexes showing the damage of age) F-ZERO GX. I knew I shouldn't have put the disc in the Wii tray because now every other current-gen game looks slow and bland in comparison.
As always, thanks for reading! Make sure to leave us a comment below with your gaming choices over the next few days...

Age of calamity and sniper elite 4(beautiful).
Then, no more heroes 1&2 will complete 1(fighting the last boss lady, don't know if she's the last one though, as there is this guy that sliced that big robot at a point in the game) she's tough and dodges well, i can't grab her(don't know why? Always reverses my grapple). Happy weekend all & happy gaming.
I’m really getting into the Sega Ages game of Phantasy Star. I might go ahead and get Alex Kid since on sale. Other games on Switch will be Animal Crossing and Monster Hunter Generations. Gonna try to get back in the Turbo Grafx 16 Mini too.
I'll be grinding Age of Calamity for that final, not-so-secret cutscene 😁
Just finished the story in Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin after bingeing it for the last few days. Really great game. Undecided on what I'm going to start next, so many games to choose from between my physical copies that have arrived recently and the eShop games that I've grabbed during the sale.
1. Stardew Valley on Switch
2. Tomb Raider on PS4
3. World of Warcraft
4. Hearthstone on the toilet.
More enter/exit the Gungeon for me I have yet to buy exit but when I do I hope I like it, I just need two more past to beat.
I am starting The World Ends With You (DS version) for the 1st time. Really gorgeous and interesting game, but I am having trouble getting into it.
Also playing Theatrhythm Final Fantasy, and really enjoying it. I just wish the Dragon Quest edition would have come to the U.S.
Sakuna and HW(both of them).
Need for Speed and Crysis for me.
I wanted to finish off Mario and Luigi Paper Jam Bros on the 3DS but I’ve got back into Xenoblade 2 so let’s see.
Still working my way through Mario Maker Story mode and have returned to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe... I never really played the Battle Mode online much before so just discovering it properly now and it's a blast... The cops and robbers one and coin runner are particularly fun for me! Also gonna play Paratopic later which I'm looking forward to as it looks quite lolsy.
Finally completed Team Sonic Racing adventure mode last weekend which I'm happy about. It really became one of my favourite Switch games and I think it's very underrated! The team mechanics are quite unique I think plus I loved the banter between the characters and designing my cars. And a wonderful soundtrack from Sega as always.
Switch is back in town! Alas, even after a month of waging the issues and even replacing the reader, the service folks have concluded the problems aren't entirely eliminated - if, as they assured me, appearing more seldom now. They didn't even charge me in the end, but now I'm kinda left gambling with my luck every time I launch from or download something to the memory card. Better news? The "more seldom" part checks out so far - not to jinx it, but the last few days have been spent running and downloading various games without crashes. The only persistent issue is the slower loading times all across the board which I can't suspect the card itself of either (it's pretty budget, but its reading speed has only felt taxed by Smash in the past) - it's been scanned and cleaned for errors during the attempted repairs as well.
So on the one hand, it may be my cue to consider a replacement console someday sooner than I ever intended... but on the other hand, my Switch is going easy on me these days, and you bet I'll dedicate most of my console weekend to its library, including the bunch I've just obtained on sale (ironically, most of them weren't even the Black Friday ones, although I did walk away with some of those offerings like OlliOlli and Prison Architect). That doesn't necessarily mean neglecting the other consoles, though - for one, I've just hit Chapter 6 with Hershel and Luke, and I'm intrigued to see more of their adventures today.
Im gonna play some Smash
Sniper elite 4! Man thats how you do ports! Beautiful game.
Also bought Asassin creed rebel (blackflag) never played that game, man one of the best i have ever played. (And played origins and odysee) love it.
And yeah finished hyrule warriors, the story (canon) made me wanting breath of the wild 2 even more. So i hope they do more with that to play as the champions or same as Majoras mask kinda style (transform lol, *coughing.. fierce deity link)
This week I will be mostly playing
Age of Calamity
Pokémon White
Finally managed to finish up La-Mulana 2 yesterday almost hitting 50 hours (and that's with large portion of the game done with a walkthrough in hand). One of the longest Metroidvanias I've ever played for sure, even dwarfing the original. It wasn't quite as good as the original but it definitely was a worthy sequel still.
Currently I'm thinking of trying to start Danganronpa (spl?) Trigger Happy Havoc which my friend gifted me for my birthday, game might be a bit outside of my element but I'll see if I like it.
Earth Defense Force 5 co-op playthrough with my friend is also ongoing still, I think we're at around mission 80 at this point.
This weekend i played :

1. The Sims 4 PS4
2. Para Para Paradise PS2
I played The Sims 4 for a while to finish my beach house and moved in one Sim inside.
I played Para Para Paradise PS2 every Saturday evening before bath time.
I think i will play ACNH tonight to keep travelling and exploiting art stuffs and other color variant furnitures from Redd.
Hades, now I have finished it 7 times with a few weapons and heat levels - the shield is my favourite. Never did I think that I'll like the shield in any game. Amazing game!
Still deep into Hades. After taking umpteen runs to beat it for the first time, only using the sword, I’m now trying out the other weapons. So much easier with the ranged weapons!
Once I beat the 10th run, I really want to move on to CrossCode, which I finally picked up now it’s on sale.
I finished Spiritfarer this past week, absolutely excellent. It exceeded my expectations, and my expectations were high. I would give Spiritfarer a 10.
On sale, finally bought Shantae and Seven Sirens. I am in the first dungeon and totally loving the game. Tight controls, funny dialog, I know I will love this game.
Bought the DLC for Downhill Lonely Mountains, I looks like fun.
Happy gaming everyone!
I picked up my final Arcade 1up cabinet (X-Men vs. Street Fighter), so I'll be playing that along with my others this weekend. I'm having a stupid amount of fun with these cabinets.
Aside from that, I've been playing Everybody's Golf on PS4, since I picked it up on a black Friday sale. It's been really enjoyable, but progression really happens at a snail's pace. I also started FF7 on my Switch this week, so I'll be playing some of that. It was my first RPG ever and I haven't replayed it in 20 years or so. It still really holds up, and those speed-up and no-encounters features are a godsend.
Still on the fence about picking up Age of Calamity. Played some two player Mario Kart 8 last night which is always good fun. Other than that it’s Demon’s Souls and Persona 3 for me.
Grabbed DK : Tropical Freeze because it was on sale and I've been longing to play it for a long time. Also Animal Crossing to enjoy the first snowfalls of the year, while catching up with Dragon Quest XI after a break.
A beat em up sesh this weekend mainly Capcom collection, bit of bare knuckle 3, if I need to chill will give to the moon a chance! Xxx
Age of Calamity and need for Speed. Some picross S5 as well.
New Super Lucky’s Tale (my brain is mush at the moment and this seems like it’ll be straightforward)
Stardew Valley (No reason except I am obsessed with Stardew)
Breath of the Wild (3rd run) plus Sniper Elite 4.
Finaly got Xenoblade Chronicles def. ed. Loved xbc2, love this game! Also planning to play some Ni No Kuni, beautiful game!
Replaying Ocarina of Time 3D, just started the adult segment.
Cuphead, A Short Hike and Bloodstained Curse of the Moon 2.
EDIT: just caved and bought Dark Souls Remastered & used the gold points from that to pick up Doom 64 as well 😅
NES, the console
@echoplex Tropical Freeze is absolute gold. One of the best platformers I've ever played.
Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity
No More Heroes (Switch re-visit)
Picross S5
NFS
Assassin's Creed valhalla and might play Animal Crosing if I chance a smoke later - I've had Covid and my chest is Still knackered and it hurts to smoke. Unfortunately i don't enjoy Animal Crosing as much when I'm not high so I havnt been playing recently.
randomised pokemon platinum mainly with a side of mars horizon
Bought Crysis in the sale. Genuinely feel that FPS games are not for me so I've stuck it on easy ready to delete and forget about when it's done.
Finished DQ11S in the week (amazing game), so hoping to return to Octopath at some point this weekend...
Ace Attorney for me, I’m on the 4th case.
Bought myself a shiny new TV yesterday and am planning to play a little of everything just to see the difference. Last night I played Civ VI and XCOM 2, and was blown away. I had real problems reading the text in Civ on our old TV. Now everything is sharp and clear.
XCOM 2 was on sale for $19.99, a price point I couldn't resist. I played the first two missions yesterday. The second mission was a freaking slaughterhouse. I'll get back to that sometime today. I find it so amazing that I now have the latest Civ and XCOM games on the Switch.
I also broke down last week and bought Pokemon Sword. It's fun so far, but I don't plan to get deep into it before I finish off a couple more games, so this weekend I'll be mainly trying to make progress in Atelier Ryza and Luigi's Mansion 3.
Age of Calamity, should have it 100% completed by time the weekend is over as I only have a few challenge battles to complete and the story Korok seeds to collect.
Age of Calamity! Definitely met my high expectations. Somehow this game has managed to make grinding rewarding. The increased emphasis on countering and exposing for crits has definitely boosted the quality of the combat over the other Nintendo Mosou games.
I may resume my Maddening Golden Deer playthroughs now that I am unstuck.
@Rpg-lover
Yep, I think those are a trap so fight your instincts to use grapple moves. She is hard. There is a *secret boss/true ending depending on whether you bought all the beam katanas.
The Last Campfire, which I am in love with. I'm not great with puzzles, but these are a pleasure to work through.
ACNH and Wandersong. If I finish Wandersong, I'll probably start Gris.
Continuing with Super Mario 3D All-Stars, Need For Speed Hot Pursuit Remastered, and The Last of Us Part II. Enjoying all very much for different reasons.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (N64) - Making my way towards the Spirit Temple.
Halo: Spartan Assault (Windows Phone) - Going back for better scores in earlier missions.
Cut the Rope: Experiments (Windows Phone) - Forgot how fun this series is.
@AJWolfTill ohh, so i have to buy all the katanas in other to enable me play the true ending. Sad thing is that i have only two katanas 😟. The boss fight with that crazy girl is really infuriating(can't count how many times I have lost).
I'm playing Uncharted 2: Among Thieves on PS4. Graphics still look good to me and it's a great game. Also some Ring Fit Adventure which I'm really enjoying and New Super Mario Bros. DS.
@Rpg-lover With No More Heroes can you choose to use motion controls? Was wondering if you can and whether they're any good.
Age of calamity and some xbox
animal crossing, xenoblade 2 and arms.
Condemned: Criminal Origins and probably some multiplayer stuff with my dudes tonight - probably Sea of Thieves or Rocket League
I actually indulged in black Friday for myself for once. So some NFS: MW Remastered, Yoshis Crafted World, and finally some Fire Emblem Three Houses. Once I stop playing Ultra SF 2 that is. Replaced my long missing copy due to it finally being on sale. Loves me some SF. Elsewhere, picked up Doom Eternal, so eventually ill rip and tear into that. Spelunky 2 runs are still a daily habit. As are Spartan Ops in Halo 4.
Just Age of Calamity this weekend
I'll be enjoying some more Pokemon Shield! I have been having a blast collecting all the Pokemon. I am also considering getting the DLC soon if I am not burnt out by the end of the main game.
@wazlon absolutely, you can choose and also it performs well. 60fps as well if you will like to know.
I’ll be playing Age of Calamity and trying to get the rest of the November bugs in New Horizons.
The lack of a poll still saddens me.
Switch: Secret of Mana - still grinding my way through. I believe I'm getting close to the end.
3DS: Pushmo - playing a few puzzles every now and again when I'm up for it. I think I'm halfway through the story mode.
Mobile: A little Pokemon Go here and there as usual.
Have a great weekend! Happy gaming!
Dragons dogma, assassins creed rogue and coffee crisis
I'm in the middle of several games that I keep bouncing around..
Hyrule Warriors: Ago of Calamity
Sniper Elite 4
Transformers: Battlegrounds
Cobra Kai
Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered
Super Mario Bros 35
Pikmin 3 Deluxe
Paper Mario: The Origami King
Torchlight 3
Borderslands Triple Pack
as well as some other games I've already beaten before, like
Hades, Clubhouse Games, Resident Evil 4, and some others. So, my plate is full. Tho, I'm also adding Immortals: Fenyx Rising soon too. So, lots of stuff to keep me busy for a while. And I still have tons of other games too, these are just the most recent ones. Currently, I have about 280 games, both physically and digitally. So, lots of options.
Gonna download some eshop bargains, definitely Fantasy Zone and maybe Capcom Beat em up collection, too many great deals around!
Overwatch:
Same as every day.
NFS Hot Pursuit:
I really like it. What a good port.
Mario Bros. 35:
I have to admit that it get's a bit old by now. Maybe the march deadline wasn't the worst call overall.
Street Fighter 30th Anniversary:
After over one year owning the game, I just recently discovered the huge amount of content that the museum timeline offers. Really enjoying going trough the old advertisements and making-of documents. I also never knew about the hidden characters in Alpha 3.
I bought and started playing Ghost Recon Wildlands on Steam yesterday, and, altough I'm dissapointed the Switch pro controller doesn't work at all with the game (damn bugisoft) I'm enjoying it a lot! Tomorrow, I'll go to search a physical copy of Age of Calamity.
Decided to dive back in Alliance Alive HD, last game I was playing on my commute before home working started for me. Rather enjoying it. You can see the 3DS heritage in its graphical models and lack of voice acting but enjoying it. Gives a bit of a Bravely Default vibe, although still getting my head around the nuances of the battle system.
I just finished breath of the wild one. First time beating calamity ganon... ending was a little underwhelming. Breath of the wild 2 needs to be heavily story invested.. it just has to be
SHOVEL KNIGHT TREASURE TROVE 'N' SPLOON 4 LIFE!!!
Where’s the poll? There’s been no poll for a few a few weeks at least now ☹️
I’m the kind of person who can play BotW and SSBU forever and be a very happy man. So, that’s what I’ll be doing again this weekend. I might also take advantage of some of those cyber deals, though. Most of my weekend will be spent putting up the holiday decorations. So ready after such an odd year!
More Animal Crossing of course. I'm also currently playing Ocarina of Time (3DS). I got Persona 4 Golden from Steam not too long ago so I'll be playing that too! I'm liking P4G so far.
I started this morning off, playing some Panel de Pon via the SNES online app, I like it, I really do. Having said that, I find the Yoshi setting/background of Tetris Attack to be more visually pleasing.
I'm also planning on continuing to chug along with Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, it'll probably once again consume the majority of my weekend, if I'm being honest.
I might squeeze in another game or two, if I can find the time to do so.
Because I'm an obnoxious hipster iconoclast, I'm playing Fire Emblem Warriors because Age of Calamity didn't interest me. Getting it new, on sale, for 20 bucks kinda helped with that decision.
Nothing new, at all. Just some Minecraft and some Tetris 99 until I get shiny new games for Christmas.
@Rpg-lover
They vary in strength quite a bit so if you've been using one from early game I'm not surprised you are struggling. Might not hurt to hit the virtual gym to increase your health as well depending on your cash situation?
Delighted this series has a new lease of life and is finding new fans. How dated does it feel playing for the first time in 2020?
Hades, Ori 2, Need for Speed High Pursuit, also picked up Ultimate Alliance 3, Katana Zero and Mortal Kombat 11 from the eShop sales.
The funny thing after playing the Mario 3D collection, which I do enjoy, I've realized how much more I like Odyssey over these older games.
Overwatch on PC. I'm trying to make the jump from console to PC for shooters. It's like learning all over again. I can barely walk around...
Ys Viii. A little animal crossing, and horizons racing for breaking up the rpg.
yes, Breath of the Wild still looks awesome. I play it at least a couple times a week and still love and still keep discovering fresh stuff. I'm also playing Rocket League, Abzu, Burnout Paradise, Pikmin 3, Mario Maker 2, Aer, Kakurasu World, and Sakuna of rice and ruin.
Age of calamity for me. Trying to 100% on very hard without overleveling for challenges... some of these are very stressful, but very satisfying when you clear them.
I decided to take a little break from Ni No Kuni, sometimes the game gets really freaking good but other times I find it kinda drags. Earlier this week I finished No More Heroes and Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze! (Both were fantastic)
Now I'm starting the way remasted, and continuing with my fourth playthrough of Fire Emblem: Three Houses! After finishing either of these I'll probably try No More Heroes 2!
I've - finally - played SNES Donkey Kong Country till the end, on Switch.
And now I don't know if I´ll continue my Fire Emblem Fates game or The Last Door: Season 2.
Smash Ultimate- Grind the dark realm
@Rpg-lover That's great news, thanks for your help.
Working on my backlog of PS4 games on my PS5. I finished Days Gone playing in 60fps with gyro aiming was such a treat. Started God of War yesterday since I never finished it. Also have Demon's Souls and Sackboy: A big adventure waiting to be played. I'll probably play Sniper Elite 4 for Switch when I need a break from PS5.
Xenoblade torna, also bought Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales in sale for EUR 10. Liked Gwent a lot in The Switcher 3 and enjoyed the story as well, hopefully I will experience the same here.
Been playing Hades. Very addicting game. The spear is my favorite weapon so far haha.
Also finally grabbed Age of Calamity so I'll start that this weekend while waiting on my Oculus Quest 2 to arrive!
Making my way through Age of Calamity this weekend, trying to catch up with a friend who also got the game on release day. He's already on Chapter 7 while I'm just crossing into 3!
In between sessions, I'm chipping away at assorted nonogram games, Picross and otherwise.
Age of calamity and I received a free stadia so I'm playing Jedi fallen order and Avengers on it and Ord on my phone.
@AJWolfTill i must confess, it looks like high budget indie games, however, it's not bad and i have lots of fun playing the game. The graphics aren't bad.
I do love the comical story telling and the boss fights are quite interesting to say the least "i say that's the sweet spot for this game" the boss fights.
Will try taking your advice and do some works to make money & upgrade my stats to the maximum. Believe it will help out.
@wazlon you're welcome.
I'll be playing tennis with a friend of mine at our local tennis club. Thanks for asking.
Oh, you meant video games? Age of Calamity - a great game.
I'm playing Gunvolt Chronicles Luminous Avenger iX. Gonna try to run it through this week.
Grinding in demons souls
Super Mario Bros. 35 and Super Mario Galaxy, in between working most of Saturday, getting the Christmas decorations up, removing one old bed and putting together a new one and taking a trip to the dump 😅
I’m just grinding MHGU. It’ll hold my attention until Rise comes out.
Hades should be at the top of every list. I'm at 100 hours and have only killed hades with 4 of the weapons, and only select aspects.
This game only gets better and better. The more I play, the more I lesrn to use seemingly useless aspects with awesome boon combinations. The music is great. The story keeps going, and I have so much to unlock still.
Hades isn't just goty status, it's legit goat status. I have a backlog of games I can't wait to play, if I could pull myself from this game. Don't skip this one!
Just bought the new Hyrule Warriors and Wonderful 101 today, but with 30+ Switch games mostly Nintendo, a few never even started, only a handful finished and only a couple 100% Who knows. Just Keep buying new amazing looking ones when they come out but almost never actually really get into playing through them. I remember back in the Playstation 1/2/N64 days, I used to 100% almost every game I got and then replay my favs countless times. Still remember speed running RE1&2/goldeneye over and over again.
Posting this rather late since I've been away from my normal routine due to Thanksgiving. I finally finished Mario and Luigi Paper Jam for my Mario Marathon. Easily my least favorite game in the lineup so far. It just bored me so badly, and I'm sure playing it directly after Dream Team didn't help. I actually looked back at these logs I've been making weekly, and I started Dream Team on October 24th and finished Paper Jam on November 24th. Took me a month on just those two games...Thankfully I'm on to Color Splash now which I've been playing with my brother over the Thanksgiving break and enjoying a lot.
It's funny how Color Splash and Origami King are really the games that are responsible for me deciding to do this marathon. I wanted to try Origami King, but I had originally skipped Color Splash. I hated to skip an entry in the series, so I got it. Then I played a bit of it but decided I wanted to replay all the Paper Mario games. Replayed Paper Mario but then wished I had just done a complete Mario RPG marathon. From there I thought "Why not just marathon the entire series of platformers and RPGs?" So I started in my own presumed chronological order with Yoshi's Island and worked my way back through. Been working on this since about the tail end of July or the very first day of August. It's insane how far I've come.
After this it's just Super Mario Run, Mario + Rabbids, Captain Toad, Mario Odyssey, Luigi's Mansion 3, and then Origami King.

YAAAAAAAY I finally finished Thumper!!! With S-ranks on EVERY DAMN level/section, no less! That was a stressful 50+ hours. It's a great game, but going for S-ranks kind of takes all of the fun out of it. But the good news is that I can go back go playing games that allow me to blink!
Mainly Age of Calamity but have also bought some motorbike racing games in the black Friday sale so will be trying them out. I want to also try get through summer of stardew valley!
@kurtasbestos I just got that in the sale, might start it today. I got Wandersong as well, nice balance there hahaha.
But I'm mostly in a huff about my local pub not reopening next week. Harrumph!
9th Dawn III. It's great. Game has blown all my expectations away.
Bit late now, but i continued with Secret of Mana. Still loving it, even if my kids and wife don't appreciate the classic music and beautiful graphics!
No Man’s Sky, all weekend. Maybe some Bloodborne and Dragon’s Dogma (Switch).
DON'T STARVE on dad's Xbox (Loving it soooo much)
Just shapes and beats on steam
Splatoon 2 and Shovel knight !!!on ma switch.
@WiltonRoots Tropical Freeze is okay so far (halfway through world 3, Savannah land or something) : P I think I prefer Returns though. And it's still as punishing as ever!
@echoplex I've never played Returns so I can't really make a comparison, but I thoroughly enjoyed Tropical Freeze - I love the way the music ties so much into the rhythm of the game and yep, it's one of those games where you have to inch forward bit by bit, taking a beating along the way...
@WiltonRoots Speaking about music, if you have the chance you have to try Returns. It's full of melodies directly taken from the original DKC game and remixed. There's a factory stage where all the elements are synced to the music and it's amazing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y16pYyRwuRQ
@echoplex Nice. I never owned a Wii which is why I missed out on it, but yep that does look great. Who knows, they might even remaster it down the line.
