Nintendo began its most recent Direct broadcast with the reveal of Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes - a Musou spin-off based on the 2019 release Fire Emblem: Three Houses.
This upcoming release - due out on 24th June 2022 - will see players take control of Edelgard, Dimitri and Claude as they battle their way across a war-torn Fódlan. If you happen to be located in Europe, there'll also be a 'limited edition' version available.
It will include a copy of the game, artbook, tapestry map of Fódlan, 5 acrylic figurines, and a character postcard set.
Please note that some external links on this page are affiliate links, which means if you click them and make a purchase we may receive a small percentage of the sale. Please read our FTC Disclosure for more information.
In this new Warriors game, players will once again be able to unleash devastating combos and stunning special moves in action-packed, real-time combat - as they cut through hordes of enemies.
"Take down dozens of foes with Edelgard’s axe or Dimitri’s lance, or blast enemies from a distance with Claude’s bow. Slash, swing and spear your way to a brighter future for Fódlan."
There's no mention of this limited edition getting a release in North America just yet, but if we hear anything, we'll let you know.

Nintendo really needs to chill with all the Warriors games. It's like they have a quota of one per year to meet. Each game takes hundreds of hours to beat, and the gameplay can get mind-numbingly repetitive, so it's easy to get really burned out on just one of them, let alone however many are on Switch now. I'm not a Fire Emblem fan, so maybe those people are really excited for this, but I just don't see the point. I think they should have at least targeted a different audience who isn't already suffering from Musou fatigue, like maybe Kirby or Xenoblade. Something fresh and different.
As a Zelda fan, I loved Hyrule Warriors, but after playing it on Wii U, 3DS, and Switch and getting nowhere close to finishing it either time, I really had no interest in Age of Calamity. Doesn't help that I thought BotW had a pretty cringe story (probably in large part because of the voice acting). It was just the worst of both worlds for me. I picked it up like a year ago when stimulus checks rolled out and have only put like 2 hours into it since then. Whenever I think about playing it, I usually just think I'd prefer chipping away at the original Hyrule Warriors a little more.
It would be cool If you were able to choose a house to lead in 3Hopes just like in 3Houses which would kinda be cool tbh. I just hope it doesn't suffer from frame rate issues like Age of Calamity did.
> Art book.
.... Well, damn.
@Not_Soos The problem is the utter disregard for long-time fans. What made Hyrule Warriors great was the celebration of the whole series. Fire Emblem Warriors already wasn’t very good and definitely fell into the trap of recency bias but this is a whole new level. It’s less a quota of Warriors games and more that Nintendo this gen have seen the slightest success and scrambled together to find scraps that they can upsell to the new fans.
@Not_Soos I can't stress enough. You need to be really careful with how much warriors you play, it is soo easy to get burned out as you said.
I don't think there are to many on the switch, are there? The only ones I know about are the Legend of zelda ones and FE.
@ShadowofTwilight22 Really? the first warriors game didn't have fates or awakening?
Definitely grabbing this. Not a huge musou fan, but a Three Houses-oriented spinoff was one of my big wants for the Switch. Game has such a fantastic cast.
@Joker1234 I mean, you can see really noticeable framerate dips in the reveal trailer, lol.
@ShadowofTwilight22 OOOOO, that I did. Kinda sucks NGL.
@nessisonett It shouldn't be a surprise that Nintendo is going to cater more to newer entries and fans of said entries when older games in the series often struggled to half a million units in sales. There just aren't that many fans of the older games in the first place, so developing a spinoff highlighting characters from them doesn't make a lot of sense, IMO.
And Three Houses is a particularly good choice for a musou, given that it has a massive cast of characters to choose from.
So, it’s just space-hogging tat this time around...
At least the limited edition for the first game included an unusually generous (but hardly exhaustive) 3 CD soundtrack.
My Birthday is June 10th. As well as Klonoa I now have this to look forward to as well.
@Snatcher As far as ones using Nintendo characters, there's just Zelda and Fire Emblem for a total of four games. But in 2020 (I think?) Nintendo promoted the HECK out of Persona 5 Strikers like it was as important as an actual Persona game. Japan has 2 Dragon Quest Heroes games on Switch, and I think there are multiple of the actual Dynasty Warriors ones. Samurai Warriors was featured in a Direct a while back, maybe last E3. Nintendo apparently thinks they're the most amazing thing ever made. They're fun--don't get me wrong--but enough is enough, lol.
@ShadowofTwilight22 I never played a FE game, but I can see why that would suck LOL.
I'm going to get this game, and the last FE warriors, because I at least heard the first one was fun, but the roster is something I hear a lot.
@Not_Soos When you put it like that, there is a lot, oh and there is all the one piece ones as well, at least if you a big fan, there is a lot of warrior content.
@Snatcher Sorry to butt in but I played Hyrule Warriors (1st one) for over 2000 hours, completed everything and you're right by the time I finished the game I was extremely burnt out which is why I took a long hiatus from the genre.
I'm ready for this game now.
@RubyCarbuncle I only know this from playing one game to LOL, I almost burnt myself out, its so fun, but it would suck if I burnt myself out on the series, thats why i'm careful with or much AOC I play.
And your not butting in, its fine.
@ShadowofTwilight22 Thanks!
And yeah, I get it, you look at legend of zelda over here, and at least they cover a bunch of other series, but if you a big FE fan, you you play the game thinking the same thing, its probably enough to make anyone a little bitter about it.
Good no OST, no reason for me to want this version then. Standard it is!
@ShadowofTwilight22 No ROY? Man I like toy tho.

Sales were pretty dire for most of these entries for a first-party Nintendo IP.
Also worth keeping in mind that the series has had a spotty release history outside of Japan.
I agree the most iconic older characters should probably have been included in the last game, even if only as DLC, but it shouldn't be a surprise that Nintendo isn't scrambling to celebrate games in this series pre-Awakening in general.
EDIT: And I have to say, I'm amazed, looking at those sales figures for Tokyo Mirage Sessions, that an upgraded port was ever approved. People rejected that game pretty thoroughly, lol.
@Not_Soos
That's a bit of an overstatement take considering of the numerous Musou games out there, only four (technically five if you count MUA3) of them are actually collaborations with Nintendo, and they only ever found realistic success with Age of Calamity. All of the other Musou games on the Switch were at the decision of Koei Tecmo to release and Nintendo obviously has no involvement in those.
I'd been hoping for a Three Houses Warriors game for awhile anyway honestly, so probably the best announcement of the Direct for me.
@ModdedInkling Like I said to Snatcher, Nintendo promoted Persona 5 Strikers like it was an actual Persona game on the Switch, and a while back, Samurai Warriors was featured in a Direct. It's like Nintendo thinks the fans will just be devastated if they don't have new Warriors content featured in every presentation, lol. They do the same thing with some of Square Enix's games for some reason. Like it's pretty much impossible to be a Nintendo fan without knowing Octopath Traveler and Triangle Strategy exists.
@Snatcher I didn't even know there were One Piece Warriors games, lol. There's a lot of appeal to a Warriors game because it can be cathartic to mow down hordes of hundreds of enemies in no time flat. It's simple, but it's fun. But the shallowness of that gameplay loop makes it very difficult to invest in another one, as it more or less just feels like the same thing with a new coat of paint. I doubt there's a single person alive who has 100% completed every Warriors game released just on the Switch, and if they have, they probably haven't bathed in weeks, lol.
@ShadowofTwilight22 Tokyo Mirage Sessions is not "crap" in any sense of the word. But, clearly, the subject matter and theme also didn't resonate with people. That this was the result of a collab between two hardcore franchises probably didn't help either.
@Not_Soos Pretty much this.
As a longtime series fan i am not really sure why people are so upset about this. I mean, sure i wouldve prefered a mainline FE game, but warriors wasnt bad for what it was and i actually prefer the focused nature of this game being set in the Fodlan universe. Also, i never liked the fates cast, so this game being set in fodlan, with (for me) one of the best roster of characters is awesome!
Oh and, people saying they got burned out after playing the same game several times (on multiple consoles nonetheless) or several hundred hours....yeah of course youre burn yourself out at some point if you play this much...
I'll just stick with the standard version, but yeah, this game is a must buy.
@Not_Soos What was last year's Warriors, Nintendo franchise, game for filling up the "one per year" quota?
@ShadowofTwilight22 Crap?
Did you say Spirit Tracks was Crap?
What the heck is wrong with you?
Well. Thracia 776 and Genealogy of the Holy War are awful games. Why would you want anything from them?
Also. Ike? Oh, gosh. Marth, Chrom and Lucina are exactly the same as him. What would he add to the games?
@Ralizah I did my part and bought #FE 3 times!
@Ryu_Niiyama Wow, three times! Physically and digitally on one of the systems then, I take it?
I snagged it near launch on Wii U and grabbed the Switch version when it went on sale (which didn't take long, given how dreadful sales were). Not my favorite Atlus title ever, but also wildly underrated. I never finished the Wii U version, though, so I'm looking forward to fully experiencing the Switch port at some point.
Where does one pre order this edition? Can't find it anywhere.
Also a bit of a lightbulb moment for me, with the release of this game will Nintendo also release a female Byleth amiibo?
I'd prefer a proper FE game, thanks.
Im kinda finished with all the warriors titles.
There is only one i am interested in yhat is their mainline.
Or of they will announce a smash based warriors title lol
For all the people disappointed that we didn't get a true FE title, look at it this way: 3H Warriors is meant to hold fans over until the next major game which means "FE17" is going to be more polished and have better launch content than Three Houses did.
I love Three Houses--in fact, it's my favorite RPG of all time--but even I can't ignore its glaring issues. The low-res textures, the occasional framerate issues, missing areas of the monastery (at launch), and general lack of map variety all slightly blemish what is otherwise a fantastic game.
But with this Warriors spin-off to hold everyone over, it's clear that Intelligent Systems is taking much more time with the next true Fire Emblem title to ensure that it'll be better at launch. I for one, would rather they take their time instead of rushing out new FE title just to meet demand only for it to have more problems than 3H did.
Even if you have no interest in this Warriors game, please do your best to have a more positive perspective and rest easy knowing that the next true FE game is gonna come later down the line and be better than Three Houses. I was hoping for another Echoes game so I was disappointed as well, but I'm not gonna let this taint how I feel about the series. I'm just gonna be patient and I might try Three Hopes out in the meantime.
Kind of miss the 3ds days when games came out at a faster rate, 5 years of the switch and only one fire emblem game whilst the 3ds had three games (technically 5)
@UltimateOtaku91
Well with the Switch being an infinitely stronger console and having larger games that take more time to develop for...that's just how things are I'm afraid. The 3DS was rather easy to develop for because it was a low-spec system and assets between games were easily reusable. On Switch, that's simply not the case.
@Not_Soos Haven't they been coming out every 2 years? Hyrule Warriors came out in 2014, the 3DS port in 2016, FE Warriors in 2017, HWDE in 2018, AoC in 2020 and now FE Three Hopes in 2022.
I wonder if they split the workload because FETH must've been in development at the same time as AoC. But yeah, there's too many cooks in the kitchen right now that for sure.
Man. I’m really surprised seeing all the hate Three Hopes is getting. I see a handful of people that are mildly excited for the game, but am I the only one who thought this was the best announcement in the Direct?? Man, I’m out of touch I guess because I was hyped. Hmmm…
I loved the original Fire Emblem Warriors. A lot of people forget the Switch had a pretty barren start in 2017 if you don’t count BotW and Mario Odyssey. Warriors was one of the few bright spots that year for me. I dumped over 100 hours into it, and while I haven’t “100%” it fully, I have done most of it, even most of the dlc (So much for thousands of hours). So I’ve been ready for a sequel.
While I had been hoping the sequel would be a better celebration of the series that included glaring omissions of characters from games outside FE Shadow Dragon, Awakening, and Fates (there was wayyyy too much Fates representation), having a Warriors game set in the Three Houses world is the second best thing.
And besides, as a few people already mentioned, this isn’t really going to eat into development into the next FE game since Koei Tecmo , so just chill. Supposedly it might be announced later this year, so again, it will happen sooner rather than later.
EDIT: I also want to add, before anyone pointed out my username, Yes—Xenoblade 3 was my second favorite announcement! And EarthBound (and Beginnings) being on NSO was my third favorite announcement. Man, I loved this Direct 😁
@JR150 I get the 3ds was easier to develop for but look at games like assassins creed, call of duty, fifa, pokemon and even the atelier series, they get games every year and fire emblem have simple battle environments even on switch so shouldn't be too hard for them to release maybe one every two years on switch. Though I don't know how popular fire emblem is so maybe the demand just isn't there for it to be worth multiple releases per console
3 Hopes is my most wanted game from that direct. Have only played the original Hyrule Warriors on Wii U before.
Saw someone mentioned TMS #FE and also want to say that game rocks.
When Nintendo feel like making a Fire Emblem Warriors set in Tellius depicting the fight of the zunama descendants before the flood, and remaking/remastering Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn I will bite
@UltimateOtaku91 FE: 3H sold over 3 million copies and is the best selling FE game ahead of Fates that just barely sold 3 million. That's how popular Fire Emblem is.
That OC with purple hair is one the worst character designs I have seen in a while...
@Silly_G how is it space hogging? There wouldn’t have been something else to replace it with.
Removed - offensive remarks
@Not_Soos
I suppose I would be burnt out too had I bought the same game three times in as many years.
@Not_Soos
Again, a bit of an overstatement. It's only the more recent Musou games that they believe to hold a high amount of importance, most notably the ones that link directly to their own games. Persona 5 Strikers was heavily promoted because there was no exclusivity deal behind the game, and Samurai Warriors wasn't even that big of an announcement, if I recall correctly (it didn't get the surprise reveal for the beginning or end of the Direct).
@AnnoyingFrenzy
If you've played Age of Calamity, you will probably have a good indication of what Three Hopes might be like.
I would suspect that because Three Houses was developed on the Musou engine, there's bound to be a lot more similaries in gameplay between Three Houses and Three Hopes, with the difference being that the combat in Three Hopes is more hack 'n slash; Persona 5 Strikers did this and it turned out to be a very fun game.
@Xenobound94 i think there is a lot of people excited for this but theres a few drama queens who love to bust out the same tired arguments about the series every time a new entry gets revealed. I think this will just sell and play just as good as Age of Calamity did.
@ShadowofTwilight22 Well, look, it's all subjective at the end of the day, of course, but, at bare minimum, it's a competent RPG with solid dungeon design, a satisfying level of difficulty, and unique, surprisingly deep combat mechanics. Those, on their own, are enough to keep the game from being "crap," even if you didn't like it.
And I bet NoA won't give it to us
I will be getting it 🤪
So where do we look to preorder this version?
@Not_Soos I’ve only played Fire Emblem Warriors but it just took about 20 hours for me to beat and I’m not very fast. Not 100s of hours at all. But if you want to play it more there’s more content.., I imagine AOC is the same.
@Xenobound94 these dudes wanted a proper fire emblem game that’s why. And they also believed those silly rumors of a new/proper fire emblem coming out this year.
To be honest, I am kinda excited for this. In fact I am thinking for for going Kirby And The Forgotten Land and instead get Fire Emblem Three Houses to learn about the characters and stuff. Also I have been meaning to try out Fire Emblem for some time.
Regarding the performance of the game, I fully expect there to be some dips in performance since it’s a musou game but I hope it doesn’t drop to single digits like Age of Calamity. I just want the performance to be more stable and also playable.Graphically wise, it looks alright, about how 3 Houses kinda looked
I do hope they add that performance and quality mode that was in the first Fire Emblem Warriors game and out that in 3 Hopes
@bluemage1989
“Play as good as Age of Calamity”
So like crap then?
@ShadowofTwilight22 I could see that. It was very much a bait-and-switch. And you do have to kind of be able to stomach the whole modern pop icon setting.
It's a solid game, but absolutely not what anyone would have wanted or expected from a crossover between SMT and Fire Emblem. In that one regard, it definitely failed.
Ironically, Three Houses is actually a better crossover in that regard, considering how fully it lifts elements of the social simulation gameplay from the Persona series.
Given how I felt about both Three Houses and FE Warriors, I'm definitely skipping this one. Wake me when Xenoblade Warriors gets announced.
This is an L of a comment section for the most part, but besides I’m hoping this will come to NA. Haven’t played a Warriors game since Hyrule Warriors and given that I enjoyed that game and love Three Houses this will be a great game to enjoy once it launches.
@JR150
Excellent point you make here. People should appreciate that they can get this game while they wait for the next one to be properly developed.
@Hero-of-WiiU
Even if someone isn't interested in this game, they should still see it as Intelligent Systems taking their time with the next game which is an objectively good thing.
Three Houses also had really lacking map variety. I'd rather they take their time so we can get more interesting maps in the next major game too. They shouldn't feel pressured to rush their games.
@nukatha I mean, yeah, lol. Not my smartest financial decision. In my defense, I had no way of knowing Nintendo was gonna keep porting it to better hardware.
Seems like anyone in NA specially USA gets screwed over for anything LE for FireEmblem series.
Anyone with the Amazon Japan link for this game?
@Ralizah Nope all physical. JPN LE WiiU, NA WiiU, NA Switch.
@Xenobound94 I am right there with you. I adored Three Houses and Xenoblade games. I was so distracted by them that I kinda blacked out on the middle of the direct and had to go back to see what I missed lol
@ShadowofTwilight22 Don't have a mother. His father/older sister dies in the first third of the game, and should take care of their people by themselves after that. Takes care of a younger sister that uses wands. Goes on a quest for stopping a Mad King from raging countries into war.
Yeah. Not so similar. You're right. Played Path of Radiance at 13 years old. Replayed it around 10 times since it was my only GameCube game for some time.
Currently replaying Radiant Dawn.
@ShadowofTwilight22 Somewhat ironically, the use of almost entirely sibling characters from the Fates roster was almost forced. The Siblings, Oboro, Azura, Corrin, and maybe one more, were the only characters with their full portraits drawn. Everyone else only had portraits for the top third or half of their body appear during dialogue. The main artist who drew everyone for Awakening, and I believe Echoes Shadows of Valentia did not have the time to finish drawing the entire cast as of 2018. That's one reason we never had an Art of Fire Emblem Fates book released, like we did for Awakening.
It wouldn't surprise me if Intelligent Systems insisted on only the families being playable, but not having full art for HD models to reference and only having 3DS models to use didn't help with any arguments with expanding the roster.
NA asleep at the wheel since 2019.
Had to import Astral Chain CE, Daemon X Machina CE, Triangle Strategy CE, and now will have to import Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes CE.
Europe is straight feasting on a silver platter.
