Square Enix has announced the Japanese release date for its upcoming single player Bravely Default spin-off, Bravely Default Brilliant Lights, with the mobile-only RPG hitting Android and IOS devices on January 27th.
Bravely Default Brilliant Lights is set to take place across three separate continents, with Bravely Default's Luxendarc, Bravely Default 2's Excillent and a brand new area known as Vermelho all in the mix. The game, penned by series scribe Keiichi Ajiro and featuring music from Revo, will feature the franchise's signature Bravely Default system with battles, jobs and abilities all having been optimised for mobile play.
A detailed digital manual has also popped up online ahead of release day and, if you can read Japanese, it's stuffed full of character descriptions and battle guides alongside some lovely maps and screenshots of the game in action.
As far as a western release of this latest adventure in the Bravely Default series is concerned, well, so far there's been no word, but we'll be sure to keep you updated should that change. For now though, you'll have to make do with checking out the official trailer above, browsing some official press details and screenshots below, and perhaps heading over to that online manual to pore over a few more in-game images.
Embark on an adventure revolving around the Crystal with four new warriors of light.
5,000 years have passed since the death of the great alchemist who proposed the creation of Crystal, creator of all things.
The light of the Crystal has yet to shine upon the land, which has become a vast wasteland called the “Blood Sands.” And a great rift valley created by a giant’s arrow has separated the lands from north to south, dividing people’s cultures from east and west.
In this vast land ruined by many years of wars and “Blood Sands,” there was but one area blessed with water and greenery. It is here where our story begins—in “Brass, The Alchemy City.”
One night, a shining ball of light appeared at the ancient ruins on the outskirts of Brass, illuminating the night sky. The following morning, Claire, who is studying the ruins as an alchemist’s apprentice, receives a request to investigate the damages…

Honestly the best thing about the is the "No Characters Gacha" qualifier. I'll be looking into this now.
edit: Also I wouldn't get my hopes up for an English release, since this is technically the second Bravely Default mobile title. The first one never left Japan.
I'd play this but judging by the previous mobile game I doubt it's leaving Japan and even if it did, I doubt my phone would run it. I'll listen to the new music though. Speaking of which, you should watch the Bravely Default concert if you haven't yet:

Oh man, what I wouldn't give for this to get an english release. That first game of the series is still one of my favorite JRPGs of all time along with Chronotrigger and Grandia 2. I love every one of these games and would love to give this a go.
I knew that it would be mobile games when they announced more releases this year.
Hm... Premium single-player mobile game that doesn't require internet connection to play, while most of modern mobile games require it? Sounds too good to be true. Especially in Square Enix' case. I know that their Final Fantasy mobile ports requires internet connection to play games. At least, in FFVI's(Android version) case it is.
No character gacha. Thank gods or whoever.
Still does not mean there are no weapon or skill gacha, as was the case with Chromatic Souls (was quite enjoyable, by the way - while it lasted).
It's sad that to celebrate the series 10th anniversary, fans of the series gets garbage instead of something special.
I’m playing the game for the first time on 3DS. Just lit up the fire orb.
As far as I know, Bravely series has like 4 or 5 spinoffs that never left Japan. We only get the mainline
Didn’t they already made a bravely default mobile game? Sounds interesting.
Hoping for a western release. The additional character stories of past games is enough to persuade me to give this game some play time. Since there’s no gacha and no online requirement, this would be a good candidate for Apple Arcade.
@NinChocolate It's quite an amazing game, hope you're enjoying it. The job system in that game is definitely one of my favorites.
@Specter_of-the_OLED what about fans who like the aforementioned garbage?
@KingofSalvagers04 I think I like the graphics of the 3DS version compared to the higher resolution switch sequel
Wow this almost looks better than BD2--almost.
