Re: Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Update Now Live (Version 1.2.0), Here Are The Full Patch Notes

J-Manix98

To add my two cents; this game is the first Zelda I have played that finally gave me a reason to grind for components, lol.

That was one of the first things I noticed, and applauded the game design for. typically in Zelda games, you're swimming in resources. bombs, arrows, rupees... my inventory is always at max. in this game, i am constantly bout of bomb flowers, arrows rupees, zonai charges, you name it! and it gives me a reason to go find some, which I think is rad personally. on top of the fact that it's not always preferable to sell your gemstones, as they are super valuable for fusions, I'm all about the tighter economy in this game.

But I do understand wanting to be able to exploit for zonai parts, for those of you who are building-fanatics! I have personally been more than okay with just having around 20-30 of each part at a time, and replenishing whenever I need to, but I'm not building actual functioning combustion engines so.... y'know.

Re: Nintendo Reveals Official Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Switch OLED

J-Manix98

I am still not sold on the switch OLED. idk, it's nice but not nearly enough of an upgrade to justify turning in my perfectly fine OG switch and shelling out $360. that said, if any edition of the OLED was going to sell me, it'd be this one. by gosh its good looking.

I will definitely be trying to snag a Pro controller though. that looks so sweet!!

Re: Mario Movie Directors Explain Their Take On Princess Peach

J-Manix98

@Bratwurst35

that's actually not true. In Princess and the Frog, Tiana had all the money to achieve her dream due to all of her hard work, then the prince came in and turned her into a frog by accident. Also, the prince was broke as a joke and was being cut off from his parents, so the only thing they achieved in the end was settling their differences and falling in love. it was a really cute story about mutual character growth.

Re: Mario Movie Directors Explain Their Take On Princess Peach

J-Manix98

@-wc- I totally agree. I just feel like this peach is an overcorrection from what she has been in the games, and mostly due to the writers not understanding who peach is as a character.
again, it would be more Believable to me if Peach ruled her kingdom with cake and tea parties and committees, than with fire and halberds

Re: Mario Movie Directors Explain Their Take On Princess Peach

I think they could've done a better job. Cannonically, Peach is very capable, (Smash bros, Mario kart, Pro at almost every sport etc) but she did all of that without betraying her character.
I don't think peach is characterized as a "damsel in distress", she hasn't been for YEARS, pretty much just in the New Super Mario Bros line of games. That said, she has always been ultra feminine, and her character is often portrayed as a bit of a silly airhead in the games: "...oh, did I win?" (smash bros Melee) 😂 which would make for a really funny character to see played in a movie.

I think the role she has in this movie is fine, but I think they should've tried to stay closer to her in-game voice and personality. Peach is not a girl-boss badass, and being a girl-boss badass is both not unique anymore, and not necessary for her to be a good strong character.
they should have made her a bit of an airhead, who rules her kingdom with love and cake, and the toadstools love her for it and would do anything for her.
Also, they should've gotten Amy Adams to do her voice.. she would've been perfect at portraying Peach, (think of Giselle from Enchanted!).

People, stop believing that your characters either have to be ultra badass girl-bosses, or damsels in distress. there is about a million different options, and plenty of room for nuance. the false dichotomy is making all of our modern media suffer horrendously.

Re: Gorgeous Chrono Trigger-Inspired RPG 'Sea Of Stars' Get August Release Date, Demo Out Now

J-Manix98

the demo totally slaps. I've been staying updated with the goings-on of this game for a long time now and eagerly awaiting more news on it, so I jumped when I saw a demo available! the game looks amazing, feels amazing, and has an overall wonderful aesthetic. Aside from that though, the gameplay is lovely. combat is immersive and challenging, very reminiscent of Chrono Trigger and games like that, but with an active element to it. the characters are awesome and super fun to use too!

This game will be a day one purchase for me hands down.

@nessisonett

To be fair, they are still producing really awesome lore based skins and cosmetics. This is the very first time they've done a crossover like this.
my bigger beef is the cost of the cosmetics on the store. i still feel like lootboxes were a better system then what they have currently (although they have lowered prices on things significantly after fans shouted at them)

Re: Talking Point: Do You Name Your Pokémon?

J-Manix98

It'd be weird if I got a dog in real life and simply named it "dog" or its breed name like "Golden retriever" or "Pomeranian". Of course most people nickname their pets, Therefore I nickname all the Pokemon I on my team in game. Exclusions apply to legendaries, or pokemon that are one of a kind... but if i put them on my team and get attached all bets are off.

Re: Fantasy-Action Battle Royale Spellbreak Shuts Down Early Next Year

J-Manix98

sincerely sad about this. I really enjoyed this game, and felt like it scratched an itch that a lot of other BR's were not scratching for me. the fantasy aesthetic, and the mechanics were really tight. I hate that Fortnite has washed yet another great game out of the market... I'm probably never going to play a BR again.

Re: Feature: 6 Things We Pokémon Vets Want To See In Pokémon Scarlet And Violet

J-Manix98

I hate to admit it, but I'm officially no longer interested in new Pokemon games... I've reached an age where the older ones have regained so much replay value, and the nostalgia attached to them puts me in a happy place that inspires me. the new games just can't do that for me. even Arceus was a letdown imo... they made so many good moves, but in my opinion failed to follow through on most of them.

Re: Memory Pak: My Very First Shiny Pokémon

J-Manix98

my first ever shiny: I was making my way up the Sky Pillar to fight and capture Rayquaza in Emerald version. I ran into a shiny Sableye on the way up, didn't know what it was but I intended to catch it regardless. I showed my older brother and he just about pooped himself in excitement, which made me jump a bit and I ended up accidentaly hitting the run button instead of the items button. Still hurts...

Later on, I ended up finding a shiny Magnemite in the Power Plant in Leaf Green version. Then, I actually ended up finding a shiny Mewtwo in the same game! So that kinda made up for the missed sableye.

Oh, I found one shiny Flabebe in Y version too.

That's all the full-odds shiniest I've ever gotten. I have few more that I've bred through Masuda Method, or gotten in trades, or chained for, but those weren't as exciting to me personally.

Re: Video: First 4 Figures Unboxes Its Stunning Varia Suit Samus Statue

I bought their figurine of the King of Red Lions a while back. Similar price range (I think mine was $450, plus shipping). The way they have it laid out with payment plans it makes it super easy to buy if you're willing to budget, and they hold their value incredibly well. My statue is already worth close to $700 by itself. I have a statue of Toothless from Sideshow Collectibles that I bought for $250, and it's already worth close to $2,000. So they can be a really fun way to invest too!
