Re: The Epic Vs Apple Lawsuit Might Have Revealed Phil Spencer's Nintendo Secret

ItsOKToBeOK

Holy cow this article is burying the lead here. This email openly admitted to Free to Play games not needing Xbox live gold 8 months in advance.

With that sort of foreshadowing, it makes xCloud for the Switch almost inevitable. I think the next Switch will be good, but not powerful enough to keep up. With xCloud, Nintendo won’t have to worry about missing out on the AAA releases anymore. All 3 systems will be almost unified. Crazy

Re: Random: Dust Off Your Wii U, It's Time For Some Banjo-Kazooie And Blast Corps

ItsOKToBeOK

I mean is there zero chance this is true? Sounds like a very specific and intentional blunder.

Plus it always struck me odd that Microsoft and Nintendo would go through the trouble of recreating Banjo and Kazooie from the ground up just for Smash. Why not release their games on Nintendo platforms as well? Seems like a lot of work just to let the characters die again

Re: Poll: How Do You Feel About 'Limited-Time' Games From Nintendo?

ItsOKToBeOK

Well, it makes Nintendo’s prerogative more clear than ever: they don’t want you keeping their games, no matter how much you pay.

Nintendo will never do something that allows you to play all your previous purchases on the newest device, like Xbox. They’ll never have an all-you-can-play service like Game Pass. Purchases will always be tied to the platform, and never roll into the next generation.

Its backwards, sad, and eventually will bite them in the ass when their competitors offer much better services

Re: Nintendo's Big Super Mario 35 Plans May Have Been Delayed By Five Months

ItsOKToBeOK

@carlos82 MK8 Deluxe had a 22 million unit head start. The fact that Animal Crossing has closed the gap to 4 million is stunning alone. Add in it did that in 5 months AND without having sales from a single holiday season (MK8 has had 3 holiday seasons on the shelf), it really isn’t gonna be close. Animal Crossing’s sales have been monstrous

I’d expect AC to overtake Mario Kart before the year is over

Re: Nintendo's Big Super Mario 35 Plans May Have Been Delayed By Five Months

ItsOKToBeOK

I think there’s another reason it was delayed- Animal Crossing. There’s no way Nintendo could’ve anticipated AC’s level of success. When its all said and done, it’ll be the bestselling game on Switch, and second place won’t even be close

The sales, the mania, the Doom crossovers, it all was hilarious and staggering at the same time. Nintendo saw it all unfold, got behind it, and tucked Mario away for later. Covid or not, Animal Crossing became so big, Mario had to take a backseat on his own anniversary

Re: Fans Have Discovered A Private Mario 35th Anniversary Twitter Account

ItsOKToBeOK

If this account was made in March, that isn’t really proof of an imminent announcement imo. In fact, whatever announcement would’ve been made by this account probably should’ve happened already, but was postponed because of Covid-19, judging by the accounts creation in March- which is when everything really went down.

I’d wager Nintendo is not only waiting for Xbox’s press conference on the 23rd, but also waiting for Sony’s response to Xbox. I’d expect a Direct between August 1st-8th. A Mario anniversary can be overshadowed by immenent console announcements, but when Mario gets the last word, its hard to stop the hype train

Re: Japanese Charts: Nintendo Takes Nine Of Top Ten As The Last Of Us 2 Topples Animal Crossing

ItsOKToBeOK

I’ve noticed Sony hasn’t been very bullish about TLOU 2 sales. Usually by now, they’d have come out and announced some amazing sales number, like with God of War and Spiderman

But all that’s been said is that it’s been the fastest selling PS4 exclusive.... in the UK. Not the fastest selling PS4 game, and not even the fastest selling PS4 exclusive worldwide- just in the UK. And no mention of total sales after a full week.

Now looking at this weeks Japanese charts, 178k copies at launch for such a huge release is not a lot at all. Maybe this game wasn’t the blockbuster Sony though it’d be

Re: Random: Poor Old Sakurai Can't Even Reveal What Games He's Playing Anymore

ItsOKToBeOK

I mean... they could just tell us already. At this point I don't understand the secrecy around it. So many characters that seemed like long shots are already in.

Really, the secrecy is only necessary if the characters are so stupidly far fetched that it warrants its own announcement. Like Master Chief, Kratos, Goku, Spyro, Ratchet and Clank, and Crash Bandicoot or something. Outside of that and a few others, just let us know already

Re: Animal Crossing: New Horizons Sold 11.77 Million Copies In Just 12 Days

ItsOKToBeOK

@gortsi no one would’ve thought Animal Crossing had a shot at being the #1 selling game on the Switch was my point...

New Leaf took 7 YEARS to get those numbers, with multiple discounts, AND is still on shelves today. NH took 12 days to top it, full price, and is gunning for Breath of the Wild and Mario Odyssey for the crown. That’s insane

Re: Animal Crossing: New Horizons Sold 11.77 Million Copies In Just 12 Days

ItsOKToBeOK

Nintendo themselves probably didn’t see this coming.

Let’s face it- Animal Crossing was a C-tier franchise to Nintendo, right next to Pikmin. Solid gameplay for a niche crowd and it’d probably sell decent.

No one in their right mind would’ve guessed it’d outsell heavyweights like Splatoon 2 and Luigi’s Mansion, and be in the same league as almighty Mario and Zelda. Animal Crossing isn’t even featured in Mario Kart! This is just madness.

EDIT: I need to start choosing more racers in Mario Kart...

Re: GameStop To Stay Open During COVID-19 Outbreak Because It Is 'Essential Retail'

ItsOKToBeOK

@Wootus I never questioned the integrity of grocery store staff. Not once. You’re proving my point though- its hell in there. Nonstop lines with frustrated people in highly populated, risky conditions.

It really puts sitting behind a counter in an empty Gamestop into perspective. They’re probably earning just about the same being in FAR less risky conditions, and still making money, unlike millions of people. I just don’t understand their negative perspective.

Re: GameStop To Stay Open During COVID-19 Outbreak Because It Is 'Essential Retail'

ItsOKToBeOK

@SwitchForce I was about to say the same thing. Yeah, you can be ticked off at GameStop for staying open, but the employees really should check the silver lining

I live in Washington state in America, everyone calls it ground zero because it’s so bad. Nearly everything is shut down. People are out of work making no money, and the people who do have to go to work are busting their behind in grocery stores and hospitals. Meanwhile GameStop employees get to sit in a gaming boutique with even less traffic than usual and collect a check.

Them staying open is a bad idea by management. But the employees at least have a choice- knuckle up and be able to pay rent, or be like the rest of us in quarantine

Re: Shigeru Miyamoto Approves Of People Uploading Gameplay Videos

ItsOKToBeOK

I’ll expand on Miyamoto’s line of thinking

Before the last generation, most video games were FAR more linear. Everyone who played a game was more or less going to experience the same thing. However, you could very well experience close to the same thing by just watching someone else play, and save the money. All the while, the player gets paid for just popping in a game while Nintendo, who invested hundreds of millions to make the experience possible, gets nothing AND loses a sale. I disagreed with their old policy, but I understood.

However, games have evolved in the past 3 years. Worlds are vast and open now. Any one mission can be played or completed a thousand different ways. When the experiences are infinite instead of linear and limited, its hard not to encourage someone to share it. Miyamoto probably saw this with Breath of the Wild. That game will be played for the next 30 years, and new things will be found all along the way. If we couldn’t share it, would the game ever really be completed? That’s the magic I think Miyamoto has opened up to

Re: Feature: NES Creator Masayuki Uemura On Building The Console That Made Nintendo A Household Name

ItsOKToBeOK

@Crono1973 I think it’d confuse the consumer. Being mini was a fine excuse for it not taking original cartridges. It was a novelty, not a serious effort. Plus its located literally in the same aisle as the new consoles. There would’ve been no way around the optics- it would seem Nintendo had rereleased an entire console in the wake of the Wii U failure. It literally could’ve been the broom that swept Nintendo away into irrelevance in the console space.

Re: Pokémon Home On Mobile Estimated To Have Banked $1.8 Million In Its First Week

ItsOKToBeOK

That ain’t a lot of cash at all. How many people didn’t drop $60 on the newest Pokémon game because of this pay wall?

To put in perspective- they could’ve made that money by selling 30,000 more copies, which is less than what was sold in Japan... last week. And I’d say more than 30,000 people worldwide passed on this game because of the ongoing nickle and dime business practices.

Kinda feel like Nintendo played themselves here

Re: Nintendo Doesn't Think PS5 Or Xbox Series X Will Have A Significant Impact On Its Business

ItsOKToBeOK

He's right, they aren't. Xbox and Playstation are sub-brands of larger behemoths, and they dabble in pretty close to niche gaming territory- stationary, under the TV consoles. They've known for a long time competing with them would be like fighting bodybuilders for grains of rice at a buffet

Nintendo's true competitors are Apple and Google. Both are raking in cash, taking 30% of all in-app purchases, and doing absolutely nothing to get it. As their mobile prowess stacks up and their IP spreads beyond games, I think one of two things will happen in the next decade- Nintendo releases and licenses they're own mobile OS to manufacturers to take on iOS and Android, or they grow too big for comfort and face a hostile takeover by Apple, Google, or Microsoft
