Famitsu's Japanese chart figures are now in for 22nd - 28th June, revealing that Animal Crossing: New Horizons has returned to its usual spot at the top of the chart.
With last week's number one, The Last of Us Part II, dropping down to fourth, several of Nintendo's current, popular titles were able to jump back into the podium places. Animal Crossing continues to sell the strongest and has now surpassed a lifetime total of five million physical sales in Japan.
As we reported earlier in the week, this is a record achievement for Switch software. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is the second best-selling physical Switch game, currently on a lifetime total of 3,737,769 copies, so New Horizons is comfortably in the lead and distancing itself from the pack with each passing week.
Here are the top 10 (first numbers are this week's estimated sales, followed by total sales):
1) [NSW] Animal Crossing: New Horizons (Nintendo) {2020.03.20} - 70.552 / 5.004.720
2) [NSW] Ring Fit Adventure (Nintendo) {2019.10.18} - 34.782 / 1.073.514
3) [NSW] Clubhouse Games: 51 Worldwide Classics (Nintendo) {2020.06.05} - 27.323 / 171.620
4) [PS4] The Last of Us Part II (Sony Interactive Entertainment) {2020.06.19} - 25.993 / 204.689
5) [PS4] Remnant: From the Ashes (DMM Games) {2020.06.25} - 19.244 / NEW
6) [NSW] Brigandine: The Legend of Runersia (Happinet) {2020.06.25} - 15.242 / NEW
7) [NSW] Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (Nintendo) {2017.04.28} - 9.338 / 3.005.043

10) [NSW] Mr. Driller: DrillLand (Bandai Namco Games) {2020.06.25} - 6.661 / NEW
Switch hardware sales saw a bit of a boost this week, and the original and Lite models have now reached a combined total of 14 million sales in Japan alone. Here are this week's figures, followed by lifetime sales in brackets:
Nintendo Switch: 67,093 (11,697,640)

Switch sales are still growing quite nicely. Will be interesting to see what worldwide sales are now.
Animal Crossing is just insane.
I know there are still plenty of games that have sold more in Japan but has any game got to 5 million that fast?
Also MK8 Deluxe hitting 3 million, nice.
I guess a lot of people really wanted diving to return?
-Or they restocked it, either way that's a lot of copies sold!
ACNH on Top again. 😀
Peoples are drolling for Raymond the cat. 🤭
That’s just great I think...
Now give me cool new games Ninty!
what a surprise
Had no idea Splatoon 2 has sold that many copies. Feels odd that it's been 'dropped' (in terms of Splatfests) given that it continues to sell very well, sold more than Mario Kart 8 overall!
I was always more about physical but I do NOT regret getting it digital.
@MS7000
60+ millions shipped by june 30th, very likely
@ukaskew As of the 31st of March Mario Kart Deluxe had sold 24.77 million units, Splatoon 2 had sold 10.13 million units. Which is still brilliant, just wanted to clarify. Sorry 😞
Last of us 2 seems to be having quite large week on week sales. Think in the uk it was down 85%. It had a great start but I wonder if it will sell like the original. Mario Kart passing 3m is great and Ring fit adventure is an incredible success for nintendo.
Brilliant sales currently, long may it continue...
they really don't do Xbox in Japan, do they!
@OldMcGroin in Japan? That's not what the figures say.
The thing with Animal Crossing is it has legs. New Leaf continued to chart, well, well past its release for instance. Couple that with a crazy successful first couple months, and you’ve got yourself a mega hit that will continue to bring revenue for years to come.
I wasn't far off with my prediction - I said last week that I reckon TLOU2 would fall off and be about the 25-30k mark. Animal Crossing is a beast. Ring Fit? A million in Japan? That's pretty good going.
Omg tlou2 is a disaster 😱
@sandman89
Not really. Japan was never going to be its biggest market and with 4 million sold after the first week alone (or was it three days?) I think Sony willl be happy enough.
Last of Us part 2 surprised at how much it's sold in Japan because this is a game that caters towards the West more than the East
Animal crossing is a beast, or beasts as the case may be.
@ukaskew Worldwide. Like you needed to be told.
@TheFullAndy nah that drop is insane also dropping fast here in uk.
@KBuckley27 have you seen the Japanese eBay? There all getting sold now they don’t like it
@sandman89
That drop is not insane at all and the UK drop was normal for such a front loaded Sony release, pretty much the same as Uncharted 4.
It was also the biggest launch of the year in the UK selling 40% more than Animal Crossing so no matter what way you want to paint it Last of Us Part 2 has been a massive success.
As for the game being sold second hand on ebay, so what?! Sony already got the sales so they don't care.
@TheFullAndy they should care because people won’t forget about this. The advertising was misleading the silly review embargo.Abby the man. Big review sites giving 10/10s when there’s no way it’s a 10/10 game. Time will tell but naughty dog and Sony won’t be trusted in the same way now.
@TheFullAndy nobody likes Abby. Terrible character
@sandman89
You have not even played the game, you didn't even like the first game. I told you before and will tell you again, your opinion on the game is worthless.
But keep on crying as Sony rakes in the millions and people who have actually completed the game like myself recognise it as one of the best games of the generation.
Also Abby is not a man you sexist fool.
Has there ever been a larger drop in sales than TLOU 2? 90% drop from week to week. Wow
After almost exclusively playing ac since launch, I’ve started to tentatively see other games on the side. Duke Nukem is fun in the right mood. I’ve just gone back and read NL’s Mr Driller review, think I’ll dip into it, good change of pace.
Microsoft might as well not bother with the Xbox Series X in Japan, seems like their brand alone was not welcome there from day one.
Congratulations to Animal Crossing New Horizons on breaking through 5 million sales.
TLoU2 hangs in there. Had a great opening in Japan for a game made mostly for the western audience. Awesome.
TLOU2 if falling off quick but still up there, figured it would be one of those games that would peak for launch.
Also MK8 crossed the 3 million milestone...
I'm sure we can find some way to argue that Nintendo is still doomed.
Uhh, Oh look, Pokemon isn't number 1. Clearly that means all Nintendo IP are falling because Animal Crossing beat Pokemon, Smash and Mario Kart!
Yeah, there we go, Nintendoomed!
@Heavyarms55
Eh? Not one person here has tried to spin that angle. Not one.
What are you on about?
@TheFullAndy It's just a joke. People used to chant the Nintendoomed nonsense nonstop digging deeper and deeper to try and justify the arguments. So I get a chuckle out of mimicking it in silly ways.
@Heavyarms55
Fair enough, those people have had to stay quiet for a good while now!
@johnvboy they should rename it Beast Crossing.
@WiltonRoots,
No they can't, I have already trademarked "Beast crossing". "Crossing Beast", and "The Beasts are still crossing", got that covered I think.
