Re: Soapbox: Nintendo's Riding High On Switch's Wave, But What Does It Need To Do To Stay There?

ItsOKToBeOK

Theres ONE THING that they must do to maintain momentum-

Online play MUST remain free forever, and they should make a BIG deal about it

To the non-gaming masses, pay-to-play online multiplayer is a HUGE paywall, which is why F2P gaming has become so popular. And with the twin consoles nickel and diming their customers, all it takes is Nintendo to buck the trend for mass adoption.

However, Nintendo can put premium online features behind the pay wall- native voice chat and party systems, a streamlined friend request system, discounts and free games monthly. These things are exclusive to paying customers on other platforms, and they're not available on the Switch at the moment, so it'd feel natural for Nintendo to couple this in their upcoming service. But you'd still be able to enjoy online play without opening your wallet.

Everything Nintendo has done so far is on the money. We already know Pokemon, Metroid and Smash are inevitable. If they nail their online infrastructure, this thing will take off

Re: Capcom Sees 36.9% Operating Income Surge, Ultra Street Fighter II On Switch A "Smash Hit"

ItsOKToBeOK

@thesilverbrick That game has paid for itself 10x over through remasters over the past 2 decades. Capcom, by quickly porting that over and being ready for launch, was playing with house money. Even if this game sold 100,000 units (which even Blaster Master Zero was able to accomplish) that’s $4 million in the bank. The number was probably closer to 500,000 units sold. That’s $20 million cash for a game that probably took 15-20 people 6 months to port

Re: Soapbox: Monster Hunter World Has Claimed Its Prize, But Capcom Shouldn't Forget Nintendo

ItsOKToBeOK

Correct me if I’m wrong, but haven’t we heard this song and dance from Capcom before with Street Fighter V? How it had huge preorder demand and sold half a million copies in its first week?

Yeah, I’ll wait for quarterly’s. The appeal of Monster Hunter was the portability factor, whether it was PSP or 3DS, and having anyone hop in at any time with LAN. For PS4 and Xbox, there’s a pay wall. AND matchmaking is currently broken too. I’m not saying it will, but this game has the perfect storm for sales that just flatline.

Re: Nintendo Direct Hype Is Slowly Turning The Internet Insane

ItsOKToBeOK

All that fire. All I can guess is Smash. Nearly all of those characters are in it, or at least top candidates (Doom Guy is long overdue). Even Universal is hopping in

All I know is Nintendo wouldn’t dare stir up this amount of hype without being sure it could deliver. They’ve gotta have one helluva ace up their sleeve

Re: Splatoon 2 Is Getting a New Map Tomorrow

ItsOKToBeOK

A little off topic, but does anyone else kinda hate clam blitz?

Maybe I’m in the minority because I still use dual thumb sticks instead of motion controls, but it puts players in my camp at a HUGE disadvantage. They assigned the action that throws the ball to the A button, meaning I can’t aim while throwing. Why not assign it to one of the thumbstick buttons instead?

I mean I’m all for different control options, but giving one option a clear advantage kinda stinks. Hope they fix it in a patch

Re: The ALL Controller Aims To Work Across All Your Game Consoles and Devices

ItsOKToBeOK

It looks way too plain. Plus I've always hated the PlayStation dual analog placement. There are controllers that'll play on most platforms for a fraction of the price. You're paying an extra $100 just to have drivers preloaded on a semi smart controller. And with that screen the battery life is gonna blow. There's so much wrong with this it hurts.

What would've made this much more practical is if the face buttons had white LED's underneath to display the face buttons of the controller it was emulating

Re: Hey! Pikmin Shows Nintendo Still Has A Soft Spot For Rare

ItsOKToBeOK

The way Xbox is going, it might not be long before Microsoft spins it off along with all its gaming IP into a sole corporation. And from they're, if another hardware iteration flops, well....

This is the only feasible way Nintendo could reobtain Rareware's IP; in a bidding war with every other gaming giant for the Xbox division IF its not profitable and IF Microsoft spins it off and IF its again not profitable as a sole company. Other than that, Microsoft will take Rareware's IP to its grave

Re: Video: Let's Discuss 5 Ways Nintendo Could Improve the Switch Online App

ItsOKToBeOK

I like this idea, but this app doesn't work as well as people thought. But instead of complaining, here's a list of things that Nintendo needs to do to make it a winner.

-Allow chat in open lobbies: Currently, if you join an open lobby (a game that can be joined by anyone eg Turf War, Salmon Run, and Ranked Mode) you can't chat with anyone at anytime, teammates or otherwise. Needs fixing asap

-App doesn't work when phones asleep or multitasking: Chat cuts out if your phone falls asleep, if someone calls you, or if you exit the app to use your phone. Every other major communication app works under these conditions, they have to implement this.

-Allow messaging in app: You can't send any form of message to a friend other than an invite. No screenshots, no audio messages, not even a simple text. Needs to be added

-Sync screenshots from Switch to Switch App: All screenshots made by the Switch should automatically be available on the app to share. No ones mentioning this functionality, and it'd actually give the app full reason to exist. This would also go a long way in making the app a hub for everything non-gaming.

And that's really it. The idea is solid. Nintendo had to solve how to make communication possible while on the go without killing battery life. Its a good idea, it just tripped out the gate. But if Nintendo implements these 4 changes, they'd have a service worth paying for

Re: Talking Point: Splatoon 2's Salmon Run Shows Off the Switch's Local Multiplayer Strengths

ItsOKToBeOK

Something I don't understand, why can't you use each Joy Con as a controller for Splatoon? With one thimbstick for movement, and the gyro controls for the aiming. Left bumper to swim, right bumper to shoot, Y to throw bomb, A to say Booyah or This Way, thimbstick click to turn quickly

Am I missing anything? Single Joy-Con play should be possible with most dual thimbstick games this way. It'd at least be a welcome option

Re: Guide: How To Invite Friends And Use Voice Chat On The Nintendo Switch Online App

ItsOKToBeOK

I actually think this isn't as clunky and convoluted as people believe it to be. In fact, I think this is gonna change how the industry does friend invites

Think about it. The worse feeling is going online and finding out your whole squad was on hour ago. You weren't online, but problem isn't that you weren't available. Its that invites are only visible on the console. And that frustration would be doubled with something like the Switch, which has a short battery life and shouldn't be turned on and off just to check for notifications. If only we had a device for quick communication that we carried everywhere you go.

Oh wait, you do. Your smartphone. Now, anywhere you are, you can be invited into a game. Literally anywhere you have service: Your phone dings, you tether your Switch, you're playing with friends. Done. Its genius.

Mixing chat and game audio seems to be a big deal and I just can't understand why. Especially with a Bluetooth set. Why not just keep one headphone in and the other out? Most chat mics are made for one ear anyway.

And when have you known Nintendo not to add features to a service? All messaging could be handled through the app. Messages, screenshots, video, simultaneously sent to your friends phone and Switch. Save data tethered to your phones app, so you can take it to whatever Switch you want

I don't know, seems people are bashing something different again. Ima be psyched for that first invite. It'll make me want to have my Switch wherever my phone is. I'm pumped for this

Re: Something Big Is About To Happen To Pokémon GO's Gyms

ItsOKToBeOK

Gyms now are impossible to take down- most now go 10 deep with the most powerful Pokémon. If you were able to tag team with a friend to take a gym down, that would change everything

And yes, I still play while jogging or walking my dog. Nothings changed, it's still a fun game to play that involves you're surroundings. Seems like it's trendy to say it's a dead game

Re: Rumour: Artwork for Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle Posted Online

ItsOKToBeOK

@ThomasBW84 Hi Thomas! So I've been following this game and this story for a while. I'm also into stocks, and there's been some really interesting chatter going around. Depending on the success of this game, I'm hearing Nintendo might be a suitor to buy a commanding share in Ubisoft. The idea is Nintendo would use Ubisoft like Rare- as a 2nd party dev with creative control over some Nintendo IP's, while also getting Ubisoft a way out of a hostile takeover by Vivendi

I don't want to stretch this comment too much, but it makes sense. Mario is just testing the waters (if they can't make Mario profitable, then its not worth the investment) I'd love if you guys did a little digging and did an opinion piece on it. This wouldn't mean Nintendo would be overseeing Assassins Creed games or stopping Ubisoft from releasing for other platforms. But Nintendo would be getting much needed assistance in developing HD games for franchises that have been long dormant (think Ubi-tendo Metroid). Plus, I'm told Nintendo stock would explode. Like, rocket past Wii mania explode

Re: Random: The King of Kong Is Being Adapted into a Stage Musical

ItsOKToBeOK

I kind of like the idea of seeing things from Billy Mitchells perspective. He's made out to be the bad guy in King of Kong, so not very often do we get to see the villains perspective in a movie. Plus, isn't it kinda fitting that one of the greatest gamers of all time is kind of a douche?

As for being a musical, that just sounds awful. I can imagine a good soundtrack if the movie got licensing to use some of the original tunes, but Disney on Broadway musical? Yikes, no thank you

Re: Pokémon Drives 3DS Sales Increase, With Another Six Million Systems Expected to Ship This Year

ItsOKToBeOK

@JaxonH Because that platform doesn't have Zelda, Mario Kart, Splatoon, or Xenoblade coming out. In fact, the more I think about it, I think Nintendo is intentionally overestimating software sales for the 3DS just so they would have reason to shut it down come next year. 3DS literally has nothing announced, and even if there is a Pokémon Stars, its gonna get sloppy seconds on 3DS owners who already own and enjoy Sun and Moon. To hit 40 million, it'd need 5-7 huge hits. A new Kirby game barely got over 1 million units sold last year!

Re: Pokémon Drives 3DS Sales Increase, With Another Six Million Systems Expected to Ship This Year

ItsOKToBeOK

Is it me, or do the projections seem really low for the Switch? 35 million software
units by next march- with Mario Kart, Zelda, Splatoon, and Xenoblade all in the launch window? And that doesn't even mention what's coming at E3.

Switch hardware and software is gonna overtake 3DS much quicker than Nintendo is anticipating. Really interesting how they plan to phase out the 3DS from here

Re: Nintendo Switch Demand Prompts GameStop to Offer Ludicrous Bundle for Delivery by 16th April

ItsOKToBeOK

I think a better bundle (one that'll probably be available for the holidays) would be 2 Switches and a game for $599. That's 4 controllers, 2 docks and 2 systems, and would make sense for more families

That's even a far better value than the Xbox and PS4 currently. If you get 4 controllers, a console, and a game, you'll be at about the same price, without a second console

Re: VOEZ Is The First Nintendo Switch Game You Can Only Play In Portable Mode

ItsOKToBeOK

Games like these just might recreate the Wii hay day. Free to play, requires no Joy-Con, on the go? Then you can immediately switch to Zelda, Smash, or Pikmin using the Joy-Con? (Don't give me that "not out yet" bs either. Even the WIi U got iterations of these franchises). I can easily see a parent handing this to any child of any age. Plus, nowadays it'll be the only tablet front and center on display (only alongside the iPad, which costs 2x more)

Only problem I see is if this game sells, we are going to see a tsunami of bloatware never before seen on console

Re: Nintendo Switch Battery Test Reveals Some Surprising Results

ItsOKToBeOK

@SLIGEACH_EIRE I think the better wording would be you'll get AT THE LEAST 2.5 hours of gameplay, no matter what game or setting, coming from a full charge. They did this test with max brightness, Wifi on. Although I can imagine using these settings in many places (park bench or coffee shop on a sunny day) they make it seem like this is the best you'll get playing Zelda, when it's not. A Switch scenario that'll be common for me is playing in bed, brightness low and Wifi off, which should easily stretch the battery 1.5-2 hours

Re: Turns Out That Leaked Nintendo Switch Was Stolen And Illegally Resold

ItsOKToBeOK

@Kalmaro Cool, didn't know that. Just making a point though, if there ever is a Switch that gets out in the wild legally, I really hope to see a positive attitude from Nintendo. Instead of becoming immediately defensive, how about some confidence? "How do you like it?" "Pretty light, isn't it?" "What do you think of the Joy-Cons?" Immediately striking makes it feel like they're trying to hide something

Re: Turns Out That Leaked Nintendo Switch Was Stolen And Illegally Resold

ItsOKToBeOK

I have a hypothetical question: would the situation be any different if he had walked into a Walmart and just bought it legally from an unknowing employee 2 weeks early? The answer would be no, Nintendo would be just as voracious to reclaim that stock.

Not trying to condone theft, but if the consequence for ANY early birds is the swift hammer of Nintendo, it sort of decriminalizes the worse offense (stealing). THIS is how I fault Nintendo

Re: Tatsumi Kimishima Talks About a Potential 3DS Successor

ItsOKToBeOK

Despite what Nintendo says, the Switch is a handheld with a fancy HDMI out. They probably know this too, but marketing it as such would've probably pissed off holiday 3DS buyers and baffled investors calling for a new console.

If I had to guess Nintendo's next piece of hardware for games, I'd put money on it being a set top box that compliments the Switch in 2018. Possibly one of those Supplemental Computing Devices patented by Nintendo a while back, in the form of a beefed up dock. A "3rd Party Box", that allowed play of more complex games when docked or connected to Wi-Fi. Because let's face it, the Switch, no matter what the architecture, is woefully underpowered. A booster has to be in the cards for Nintendo

Re: Eurogamer Report Suggests Nintendo Switch GPU Runs 60 Percent Slower When Undocked

ItsOKToBeOK

Something's missing here. Things just aren't adding up. This device was shown running Skyrim. Then there was that absolutely jaw dropping trailer of Seasons of Heaven. How are these specs so low?

I really hope this isn't true for Nintendo's sake. What I'm hoping is Nintendo created a dev kit with the X1 because they knew there would be leaks. After all, it seems all of these leaks are coming from third party devs, not from within Nintendo. I mean, up to this point, Nintendo has maintained the element of surprise- no one saw the Switch coming. Maybe they do it again with the reveal
