Re: Review: Pokémon Legends: Z-A: Mega Dimension (Switch 2) - Repetition Takes The Shine Off

IceCatraz

I think the biggest problem I have with the DLC is that it's all end game content, and the method in which you actually engage with the DLC demands repetition. It would be a good addition to the game overall if it were spread out through longer stretches of game play. I think the loop itself is fine enough - Cook donuts, bust into hyperspace, do a few missions, catch some new pokemon, then leave - but because it's all you do in the DLC, it feels more like a chore?

My ideal situation would be:

Do main story content - > do some hyperspace hunting - > do some base side missions - do Z-A battles- > do DLC side missions - > more story content - > do some hyperspace hunting, repeat.

But because I needed to beat the game first, I'm already done with all of the story content, and I've already done all of the base side missions and AZ battles. So now I'm just left with hyperspace - > hyperspace - > hyperspace.

I like the 100+ level Pokemon mechanic, so I get why it's endgame. I just wish that there were more to do; as is, it feels kind of weak compared to Scarlet/Violet and Sword/Shield DLC.

Also, they made both Mega Raichu's pure electric and that's no fun.

Re: Pokémon Legends: Z-A's Mega Dimension DLC Scores December Release Date

IceCatraz

@Mando44646 I also thought it was February, so I went and looked it up. All I found was:

"If you purchase the Pokémon™ Legends: Z-A – Mega Dimension DLC physically or digitally by Saturday, February 28, 2026, you'll get an email with a code for a Luxurious Poké Ball Set containing 3 Fast Balls, 3 Heavy Balls, 3 Level Balls, and 3 Lure Balls."

So it looks like we might have associated the time limit with it's actual release date? It still feels off though lol

Re: 'The Hundred Line' Receives A New Update, Here's What's Included

IceCatraz

I just finished this game last week. Normally I'd go for 100 percent, but by the time I got to what most consider to be the "true route", I was spent. This update came out on PC about 3/4ths of the way through my playthrough; had it come out earlier, I might have went for 100%. But man, there's one Route that has 2 years worth of battles that just wasn't fun and took forever to get through.

After that, I was ready to call it quits lol. I think I had 74 of the endings by the time I put the controller down. This update is fantastic, and much needed imo.

Re: Video: Right, We Need To Talk About GameChat On Switch 2

IceCatraz

I use it every time I play with my brothers. It's a quick and simple, and I dig not having to use a separate device or a head set.

I do wish you could full screen the game and have the names of who's talking show up in a transparent window on the side of the screen, like in Discord, but that's a small complaint.

Re: Reminder: You Can Use Non-Nintendo USB Cameras With Switch 2

IceCatraz

@PJOReilly
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wGH_VF-Gx4Y

You can do it, it seems, but the results may vary based on if you your phone model (if it supports USB-C to HDMI / Display Port Alternative Mode.) High end android phones should have this feature built in.

But...for the cost of both the cables required, it seems to me that it would make more sense to just pick up a USB camera. I bought the Tewiky 05 from Amazon for $21 (less than the cost of both the cables required for this set up) and it works great.

Re: Best Power Banks and Chargers To Play Nintendo Switch 2 On The Go

IceCatraz

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09W2H224F

I bought this one a while back for my trip to Japan, because it's both a 30W, 10,000mAh Power Bank, as well as a 65W wall charger that can fast charge a device, or steady charge 3 devices (I only brought this one brick, rather than 4 or 5 smaller ones for all my devices.) It was $85-ish when I purchased it, though. But being able to plug the Power bank directly into the wall to charge itself was (and still is) a god send.

I just tried it out, and it can also supply power to the Switch 2 Dock so that it can be used to connect to a TV. It's actually the only other charger in my house that can do it, interestingly enough; I have other 60+ watt chargers, but none of them can charge and power the Switch 2 enough to send a signal to the TV. Which is actually good to know; my Switch 2 power adapter is firmly placed behind my TV and routed through my entertainment system lol

Re: Poll: Has Your Switch 2's Screen Got Any Nasty Scratches Yet?

IceCatraz

I got a 2 pack of the amFilm auto-alignment glass screen protectors off of Amazon for $8.99. They each come with an applicator so you can't mess up putting it on. I usually put my screen protectors on right out of the packaging, before even turning on the device, so I haven't gotten any scratches on mine. I'll probably (eventually) pick up a case/skin for the joycon2s because I don't trust that I won't scratch those, and they're way too expensive to just "pick up another set."

Re: Review: Nintendo Switch 2 Camera - An Elegant But Nonessential GameChat Companion

IceCatraz

My brother and I each bought the same cheap 1080p webcam for $20 off of amazon (the only one I could find that was type C), and it works great. Comes with a tiny tripod, but it also has that typical webcam soft clamp system, so you can put it on top of your TV if you have little ones. It does everything that the official one does from what I can tell, and it has a built in privacy flip. The Switch 2 seems to handle the background noise isolation, and it seems to do a really good job at it.

Also, can confirm it works via the Switch 2's USB-A dock via an adapter, for what it's worth.

I like the way this one looks on paper, but it would stand out a little too much in my living room, and I'm not paying $55 for a 1080p standing camera.

Re: Switch 2 Accessory Maker Unveils Pro Controller Case With Built-In Charging

IceCatraz

My 8Bitdo Ultimate Controller...2 (I think? The Switch compatible one - their nomenclature always confuses me) came with a charging case, and it works just fine. The controllers don't build up that much heat that it would be of concern, and the charger shuts off once the controller is fully charged. I obviously can't speak towards a product that isn't out, but I can't imagine it would be much of an issue.

I don't think I'll be getting their pro controller either way. I can't personally justify the cost - not when I can get a controller that does 90% of what the official one does for 50% of the price (with Hall Effect/TMR sticks to boot.) If I really want to scan an amiibo, use motion controls, or open gamechat, I'll just grab a joycon.

Re: Talking Point: Are You Excited At All For Switch 2 GameChat?

IceCatraz

100 percent will be using this. Being able to just turn on the console, press a button and be able to talk with my parents or my brothers is great. I'm not planning on using the game streaming specifically, unless I'm playing with one of my nephews, but just having everything localized in one ecosystem is great.

Re: Poll: What's The Best Xenoblade Game? Rate Your Favourite For Our Upcoming Ranking

IceCatraz

Playing through Future Redeemed right now, but so far, it's probably my favorite Xenoblade experience. Everything is so neat and tidy and succinct; I'm really enjoying it. But I haven't finished it yet, so my current order would be:

3, 2, Torna, 1, X

I couldn't get into X when I first played it. I'll give the Switch port a go eventually, but eh. I like 3 the most overall, but I like 2's characters more. Blade pulling was BUTT CHEEKS though.

Re: Pokémon Champions Limited To "Select Pokémon" At Launch

IceCatraz

Yeah this seems fine. I keep thinking of Pokemon Stadium/Coliseum/Revolution and their Battle Pass system, where there were preset Pokemon teams that you could choose from, or bring your own via the main games. If that's the case, then the pool of Pokemon you'd be able to choose from would be much smaller than the entire roster of Pokemon, which would be fine as long as they planned to expand the pool.

With that being said, I do hope that they include rule sets and brackets/tiers if they do the Pass system. I'd love to see Little Cup battles, but only if they're separate from Legendary Pokemon battles (out side of an anything goes mode.)

Gatcha might be ok, so long as we can bring pokemon over from Go/the main titles, maybe on some kind of timer or something. It would be a little annoying, but as free to play, I'd be cool with it.

This game has a lot of potential. But it''ll also be monumentally easy to bork it, so I hope they do their due diligence and look into more than just "here's 30 Pokemon, no items, doubles battles only, also you MUST use Charizard" mindsets.

(Also, just realizing that they used the term "Battle Pass" before it was the sinful thing it is today, so I'm hoping they come up with another term lol. )

edit
Also please let us do special battles. Rotation battles would be cool, but bring back INVERSE BATTLES PLZ

Re: Talking Point: What Do We Actually Want From 'Mario Kart 9'?

IceCatraz

CUSTOM MAPS BASED ON GOOGLE MAPS. Let us select streets, "mario-tize" them, and play them.

Backport all of the current levels as retro cups - OR - let us make our own levels, and all of the current levels are "templates" that we can take apart and rearrange how we like. As old as MK8D is, I really liked all of the levels (save most of the Tour ones), and I'd hate for them to be left behind.

Let us use our own music in a track editor (maybe let us connect our Nintendo music accounts and use them as a sort of "MK Radio?), and maybe release a companion app that would let us create/download tracks, view other people racing live, see ghost times, etc. Don't go full eSports mode, but use some of those tools to create a solid online community.

But honestly, the biggest feature I want is "more Mario Kart." Use Deluxe as a baseline for roster, levels, etc - and just add more. I'm not a fan of the transforming vehicles or open world in racing games, but I wouldn't be opposed to it if it just meant more Mario Kart to play around with.

Re: The Switch eShop Is A Nightmare, So We've Made Our Own "Better eShop"

IceCatraz

idk if it's my monitor or just the weight of the letters, but that orange with white text is very difficult for me to read. Dark mode looks good, though. Either way, a really cool resource.

Tbh, I miss the "Nintendoness" that the eShop has; it's streamlined (and sluggish at the same time fml), but it just feels like another bland digital store front. Bring back the goofy Pikmin and clunky Wii cursor, I say.

Re: Talking Point: Is It Time For HD-2D To Take A Break?

IceCatraz

Nah, it's fine. We get hundreds of games a year, in a slew of styles, methods of presentation, etc. We're always going to get regular/non 2D-HD 8/16/32bit coming from the indie scene (as well as from re-releases from Nintendo and the like); having more 2D-HD games among the plethora of normal games is fine.

I'd love a pokemon game in this style.

Re: Talking Point: What Are Your Top 5 Nintendo DS Games?

IceCatraz

1. 999: 9 Hours 9 Persons 9 Doors
2. Pokemon Diamond / Pearl / Platinum
3. SMT: Devil Survivor
4. Metroid Prime Hunters
5. Mario Kart DS

The DS is probably my favorite console (or I guess the 3DS because it plays DS games.) There are so many good games for it, and a lot of them offer a whole lot of bang for your buck.

Re: Shiny Rayquaza Is Coming To Pokémon Scarlet & Violet

IceCatraz

@batmanbud2

Rayquaza - specifically shiny Rayquaza, is pretty big in Japan. Regular Rayquaza is the mascot for Pokemon Center Skytree, and both normal and Black Rayquaza (which seems to be what they call him) have big displays there. I was just there a few weeks ago and they had some really cool merch that featured him. I don't know why he's popular, and he's certainly not Charizard popular, but he's up there. Lots of Gatchapon, toys, figures, etc.

Side note - the entire floor that the Pokemon Center is on in Skytree Town is Pokemon-centric. There's a few other stores, but there are just random pokemon decorations and statues everywhere. Super cool place to take pictures.

Re: Review: Star Wars: Hunters (Switch) - A F2P Hero Shooter That's Fast, Fun, And Force-ful

IceCatraz

Interesting. I had heard of this game, but I had no idea it was a hero shooter. I've zero knowledge of Star Wars outside of "light saber goes swissszhhhh" and Darth Vader's infamous, asthmatic " im ur daddy Luke" line, but this looks like it could be some fun. Third Person is also a plus for me - maybe I can get my "what's a chewbaka" brother's to play this with me. Thanks for the review.

Re: Poll: Are You Bothered By The Frame Rate For Paper Mario: TTYD On Switch?

IceCatraz

I originally purchased and played through SMTV on the Switch in it's entirety; all 3 routes, all side quests done, over 100 hours. And outside of a few frustrations, I really enjoyed my time with it. It's a very pretty game, but it clearly dipped below 30 frequently, and it was more than just "noticeable" - it felt slow.

Then I saw a mod for Ryujinx that made the game run at 60FPS, and it just looked right. And then I tried it out; as it turns out, the game just feels better at 60FPS. It really makes the Switch version feel straight up bad.

All of that to say, I'm sure it'll be just fine at 30 FPS. But I'm also sure that it'd feel and look better at 60 FPS. And once the game is out and modders have a 60FPS patch, I'm sure that'll be even more evident.

With that being said, enjoy the game however! It's a fantastic experience either way. I recently replayed the GC version using an HD texture pack, so I'll probably pass on this version. Love it for all of those that are playing for the first time, though! You're definitely in for a treat.

Re: Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance Confirmed For Switch, Adds New Chapter & Storyline

IceCatraz

Atlus did a livestream that discussed what's being added/changed, and it does seem like a "SMT V: Royal" treatment.

For those interested
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P4pcUK6_-dg

tl;dw,
At the beginning of the game, you'll get to chose between the "Canon of Creation" (the original story) and the "Canon of Vengeance", which "follows the scenario of the original, but with significant changes in the middle and later stages of the story." Maybe a new area of Da'at; not sure if it's a new region or something smaller - the verbiage was kind of odd. Also includes QOL improvements, new fusion attacks, new DLC that features Dagda from SMT IV:A, old DLC, etc.

If you're playing on the Switch, you can bring over 3 demons. 3.

Gamefreak is sitting in the corner taking notes right now lol
