@JaxonH Yeah, although I suppose that is a good alternative. PC gaming is the best imo. So a portable device that gives you access to Steam's massive library as well as everything else is great.
It's a shame the Switch is not going to be the one to play the majority of AAA releases, but for what it is, it's fine.
@JaxonH Technically, we aren't there yet. That looks like a good piece of hardware, but that is literally a portable PC and not a dedicated gaming console. It's even priced like one too.
@TromaDogg Going to have to disagree about the Wii part. The whole thing with that was the motion control gimmick that got people onboard. The Switch on the other hand has definitely been about games and the simple fact of playing them anywhere.
@electrolite77 From a Switch only owner's perspective, I can understand this year seems weaker and maybe underwhelming to some. But still leagues better than the Wii U imo.
That console was like a desert as you desperately await the next time Nintendo hands you a bottle with a third of water in it.
@shani @Mountain_Man As far as I know, the Switch doesn't have any current open world game from third party devs. Only one that comes close is LA Noire which technically doesn't even count as it's a remaster.
There's no Witcher 3, Fallout 4, GTA V, nothing to really make a proper comparison.
@Findonovan95 Even if we get a Switch revision, games that don't work with the base model still won't be possible. Unless they make it exclusive to the revision and they'd be crazy to alienate a chunk of playerbase.
@Syrek24 I probably don't have any business getting in this discussion, but that's not really the way I see it, to be honest.
I doubt @Yorumi hates Nintendo. Probably just annoyed with a lot of their decisions. Which is understandable. Usually, when I voice my own problems, I get labelled as a hater too, but I don't exactly hate Nintendo.
But seriously, it was pretty appalling to me the way Nintendo fans acted towards these guys. When they said no, you should have been able to understand. The game not coming to the platform does not make them lazy. Are you serious?
They put in the extra work to make the other two console versions in addition to the PC game and launched it simultaneously.
For the people who waited patiently or played other games in the meantime, I hope you'll appreciate and have fun with the Switch version.
For the others who are salty and can't get over it, have fun missing out. You don't really deserve it anyway.
@JaxonH At this point in time, even if Nintendo really wanted to jump back into the race, they'd no doubt lose. People have already established either Xbox or PS4 as their place for 3rd party games and as sad as it is to say, their exclusives alone won't drive everyone to their box.
But, I can't tell you how glad I am that Nintendo went with something simple this time. The ability to play games anywhere, anytime. There's still a lot that needs to be improved, but that one feature right there is a big one.
I probably would not have jumped back aboard with Nintendo had they went down another path like the Wii U. And the way I see it, I don't see Sony or Microsoft getting on this portability thing for years to come. So, I hope Nintendo can do this again next generation. (And improve as they go along)
@JaxonH The thing with Nintendo consoles though is that lack of power has directly affected games coming to the platform. It's not the only reason, but it's one of many.
It's understandable for the Switch not being as powerful since it was designed with portability in mind. But, the issue is still indeed there. As it was with the last two consoles.
Sure, there's the occasional fanboy that do put graphics above anything else. But, there's also the guy who just wants to be able to play the latest games.
And, if he wanted to do that, you have to redirect him to PS and Xbox.
@electrolite77 I think people should keep their expectations realistic and not assume anything can come to it because of DOOM and Wolfenstein 2.
That's why I don't really have a problem with older ports. Power is much less of an issue with those and there's plenty of fantastic games that I'm sure a lot of the Nintendo fanbase haven't gotten to experience.
Personally, the portability aspect is such a big thing for me that I'm even willing to get certain games on it over the other versions or repurchase games I already played.
This isn't surprising. No matter how well the Switch does, it is never going to get the third party support it needs due to hardware limitations. ¯(ツ)/ ¯
@Cobalt It's completely understandable that if you play 99% docked, the Switch would be underwhelming to someone. The portable aspect is kind of a big selling point, and despite it getting a decent amount of third party support, it's still mostly a "Nintendo box". Just like the last few consoles.
I'm surprised Smash doesn't interest you though. That's a huge one. But yeah, it's good you have a PS4 with lots to hold you over. It'd be awful if it was your only console and you went long without anything to interest you. Those were dark days with the Wii U for me...
@Crono1973 @Zeraki I see. I wouldn't say I usually play games like these, but I suppose I'll give it a try eventually. Hopefully, they put out a demo that could help.
@MsJubilee I agree. There's only so much you can do. Yeah, it's impressive that they manage to get a game like DOOM running decently on the thing. But, it wasn't without many sacrifices. That is just not worth it to some developers.
@Euler It seems like most people don't really care about Ashley which is kinda saddening. I actually wanted her in. She's cute and plus her theme is in it..
@ShadJV I haven't seen Steven Universe in ages. But, I guess my only real gripe with SU is it feels like they don't really know where they want it to go sometimes.
@Heavyarms55 Well, Dark Souls was supposed to be a summer release and we really only have one month of that left and still no word on it. Honestly, might as well be holiday at this point. So, you're probably right.

@Mountain_Man Skyrim isn't a current gen open world game. It's an older game with some polish just like LA Noire.

I'm almost certain it has to due with hardware. Hence why we haven't seen many.

@Kirgo Pretty much. That was the case with A Hat in Time.

I thought we would have been past the forced motion controls gimmick by now, but I guess Nintendo wanted to remind you again.

@XenoShaun Absolute insanity. Imagine how expensive it would be if the Switch did that.

Re: DOOM Eternal On Switch Will Target 30fps
@ramu-chan The number one reason to get any game on the Switch that is also on other platforms is portability.
That's always the reason. A valid one too since that's basically the selling point of the Switch.
