Last week, Blizzard confirmed Diablo III Eternal Collection would, in fact, be arriving on the Nintendo Switch later this year. Alongside this news was the reveal Nintendo players would receive exclusive in-game gear sourced directly from The Legend of Zelda series. In case you did miss it, each copy of the Switch version will ship with a Ganondorf armour set, Tri-Force portrait frame, a Cucco pet and Echoes of the Mask cosmetic wings.
Now, new footage uploaded by Engadget has revealed Link's gear was originally in the Switch release. Unfortunately, it's since been pulled from the game, with our very own Steve Bowling shedding some light on the situation:
Link's outfit might have made it into Skyrim, but based on the image above, it seems like Ganondorf is a much better fit for this particular outing.
Now that you know Link's famous sword, shield and tunic won't be making a cameo in Diablo III, how do you feel? Do you think Nintendo should exercise more restraint when it comes to lending out its IP, or do you think this is important exposure for the company? Tell us below.

Tease...
I don't really care too much, but, why not? Why make the assets and not use them?
Maybe Nintendo didn't want Link's gear appearing in a game like this...
@CanisWolfred
Cucco tease.
Likely won't get my hands on this game, but it is still kinda of a treat to get Nintendo Easter eggs in third party outings.
I haven't even bothered to look for Link's gear in Skyrim, so I think I can deal with this crushing disappointment.
So why have it in the first place...?
@TossedLlama Me: hey 20 bucks for free? Cool!
Should have put The Happy Mask Salesman in. That man is pure nightmare fuel.
Preorder canceled
Hopefully it will appear in the PS4 and Xbox One version. 😜
I personally don’t think they need to put Link’s outfit in every single game on a Nintendo system. Kinda diminishes the value imo.
@TossedLlama Still not gonna whine about free money. It'd be different if I were owed it. But as a freebie? Naw. If ya wanna give me a penny, I'll take it. Though I may question why you are bothering to do it at that point.
I’ve been in love with Diablo ever since D2 back in 1998. Always thought it would be great on handheld so I’ll gladly hand over $60 for portable D3. That said, Crusader Link woulda been epic!
@Heavyarms55 it appeared in Bayonetta and Skyrim. Can't imagine this being less appropriate.
@JasmineDragon its difficult to find the gear.
@Heavyarms55 Link is too busy fighting demons in Doom Eternal, so Ganondorf had to take this ones.
It doesn't really matter to me. It's third party support and I can't believe people are whining about something stupid as a costume.
@Ashunera84 It might be the loose connection with Christian references and hell.... I was about to say until I remember all those same references in Bayonetta. Yeah never mind. Maybe just the darker nature of Diablo? Bayonetta and Skyrim both have quite a bit of humor in them. I don't know as much about Diablo, aside from remember Christian parent groups on AOL complaining about the game.
When you opened treasure chest there should be a sound effect like old Zelda games.
Well now they have to add it if they want me to buy it, and hopefully not as paid DLC. But in truth I already have Diablo on PC and PS4 so I'm not too anxious to start over from the beginning on Switch at full price. I'll grab it on a sale down the road I'm sure, I just really wish you could sign into the same Blizzard account on Switch and even if there wasn't cross platform play to have an option to import your characters from PC. Still I'm very glad to see Blizzard supporting the Switch and would love to see more content from them in the future.
I think they should have left the sword and shield in. But otherwise it looks too goofy.
@RyanSilberman They were working with Nintendo, so they were just trying different things and felt this just didn't fit in the theme of the game, so they removed it.
@JasmineDragon It's in a chest way on top of Throat of the World and it's pretty rad.
Doesnt both me, we are getting diablo thats enough
That outfit doesn't really work for me. Ganondorf is much better. I'm excited to play this.
Why not? it looked freaken cool tho, hmm. They could have put it in. Oh well..
Well it's a game on a Nintendo console so by law it has to have some sort of Zelda character/costume in it. At least the fact that it's not Link for the billionth time shows some sort of originality I suppose.
The art assets are obviously already completed and can be used in-game, so why NOT include them? This makes no sense.
I think that armor looks kind of cool. But I wouldn't have used it anyway. I don't like green.
It looks awful in that image anyway, LoZ doesn't really fit to Diablo. So I'm glad they didn't include it.
We don't need Link everywhere. Gets boring.
Quite a failure! So it wasn't meant to be shown?!
