First off, I'm so happy that Box Art Brawl is back. It was always a great thing to read on Sunday while drinking my coffee.
I love the NA box art because the colors scream classic Nintendo to me. Bright bold blues, greens, reds, etc. My friends and I used to call the sky in level 1-1 of Super Mario Bros. Nintendo Blue!
I am so proud of this young man! This should be applauded, but also should be a little reminder that a lot of us deal with 1st world problems (like getting all upset when games are delayed, etc etc.)
This guy lives in a poorer country and saved for 9 months to get what he wanted, and for a lot of us, we get upset that we can't have it now by driving down to the local store.
My grandma would remind me of this a lot when I was growing up and I would get all upset about something trivial not going my way. Before she escaped to North America as a little girl, she never had real milk (only whey) and most fruit was foreign to her. It either wasn't available or too expensive. So, when I would be all whiny about not finding the exact NES game I wanted at Toys R' US, she would kindly say something like, "yes, I remember being that outraged and upset that I couldn't have food for 3 days". Puts things in perspective!
Anyways, kudos to this kid for really working for and appreciating what he has!!!
I really hope someday Nintendo revisits the dual screen idea. RPGs turned into something else altogether with a separate screen for HUD items and maps, etc.
I very rarely ever pre-order anything, but there are a few games I'm glad I did for the cool goodies.
The one pre-order I'm still the happiest with? Castlevania: Portrait Of Ruin for the DS. That package was jam packed with awesome stuff, and I love that game to this day.
On the Switch, been playing A LOT of Diablo 3 for some reason, and The Sinking City.
The big gaming excitement for me is the new addition to my Nintendo handheld collection: a GBA SP (AGS-101 model). It is in fantastic condition, as it was a friend's who gave it to me, and it has essentially sat in a box for several years. I have always wanted one, and so I can give my DS lite a break when wanting to play some GBA games.
The most important thing, though? Taking the kids to Grandma's house and going out of town with my wife for a night to celebrate our 10th anniversary being together (been married for 8). Yay!!
Oh man, I remember this game. It was really pretty good. I will definitely have to check this out, even though I am horrible at stealth games/ stealth sections in games. It's actually pretty embarrassing.
I'm so concerned that they would make a Zelda movie or show darker and grittier than it needs to be, like the recent Wheel of Time adaptation..
I could see it now: Link and Tingle are living quietly together when their village is attacked and Tingle is chopped in half by Ganon, who is looking for the Triforce of courage.
Zelda has a multiple personality disorder, and Sheik is one of her personalities.
There is gore and swearing everywhere, and everyone is dirty.
Oh man, I remember playing this a little bit back in the day. A friend of mine had a total love / hate relationship with this game. He really enjoyed playing, but would rage at the difficulty.
If my memory serves correctly, this might really find new life being advertised as a Souls-like.
@eaglebob345 Haha, me too. I've got the popcorn ready for the show! I come to the site for the news and awesome reviews, and definitely stay for the comments.
This looks cool, but I really want a comprehensive Macross game here in the west. Or, even better (for me): a complete Robotech game, spanning all eras.
Well, had a major death in the family a few days ago, so in-between dealing with it (my wife is a saint), I have been playing a lot of Diablo 2 Resurrected on the Switch. Mindless clicking fun, and reminds me of a better time.
@hadrian I can't wait to try it out. I just bought the first one (took a long time because of my massive backlog) and I think it is phenomenal. If the 2nd one is that much better, it sounds like I'm in for a real treat.
It's funny, I just got Blasphemous for Christmas, and it really is an amazing game. It somehow flew under my radar before, but I am really glad to have found it. Great pick.
This is an interesting list, and parts of it I really agree with. What is interesting is the sheer amount of games here that you can play on the 3ds and some on the Switch.
I actually just bought a few games for the 3ds recently, including the stellar Etrian Odyssey 2 Untold. I would buy a lot of games physically instead, but the price for a lot of physical games (especially Atlus titles) has gone insane.
@Mountain_Man Thank you Thank you Thank you for your perspective. As someone who has worked for various software companies for 20 years and for 5 of those managed a small QA team, it was always aggravating hearing applicants demanding more pay than I was making, when their only prior experience was taking a CS class in college and flipping burgers.
I'm not knocking burger flipping at all, since I worked my butt off in restaurants for years as a teen, but is not nearly the same thing as other jobs, and the pay should not be comparable. I knew it wasn't a career and so I worked a lot, and got marketable skills on the side until I could get my foot in the door and I could prove I deserved to be there.
Etrian Odyssey 2 Untold: I have played 1 Untold, but never beat it, so I am giving this a try, since I really enjoy Atlus RPGs (especially the SMT series). I am really liking the Story Mode on this quite a bit more than on the previous one, but can't wait to start Classic Mode. I think overall this is a series I could get into.
Nothing could compete with the PS2 at the time (I loved mine), but there was something pretty special about my GameCube. There were some awesome gaming experiences on that little box. Lots of Nintendo magic...
@JaiGuru I appreciate your opinion on Dread, but I greatly disagree. The first Metroid is what convinced me to save up my money and beg my parents to help me get an NES, and I have been in love with the franchise since, and man, I love this game. Actually it might be in my top 10 games of all time. I loved Samus Returns, since it made me excited about Metroid again, and this just surpasses all of my expectations.
I will say I am disappointed in the music for sure.
I would love to hear why it didn't click with you as well.
Also, I would like to point out I am not just a Nintendo fan boy. Plenty of other games on other systems I love, like Horizon Zero Dawn, Mass Effect, etc
@Tsuchinoko Why does he need to explain? Is he supposed to only be a certain way because of his job? Who are any of us that he needs to explain anything?
Besides, do you know him personally to know what his views are? What does that have to do with being Mario? Maybe.. .Chris Pratt isn't Italian enough to be Mario, and so it would be considered cultural appropriation? 😀
What if it is the same technology as Headmasters Transformers? Which would make Transformers Canon in the Metroid universe! Maybe the Quintessons stole the tech from the Chozo.
Ooo.... imagine Samus as a Headmaster or Powermaster.

Re: Kit And Krysta Reveal Their Least Favourite Mario And Zelda Games
After all of these years playing games, it still amazes me that even Mario and Zelda games at their worst are better fhan many, many others.
Even my least favorite Mario and Zelda games are ones I still greatly enjoy.
That really says something pretty awesome about Nintendo!
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (March 12th)
@Kintypoo121 I understand. I gave away 3 different DS's I had years ago, and now wish I had kept them.

Speaking of Contra 4, I wish Konami would tap WayForward to make a true Contra 5 on Switch. I'm sure it would be amazing.

The Sinking City Deluxe Edition, mostly. I really feel like this is a pretty underrated game.

Re: Nintendo Is Investing In Office Space In Japan To House More Game Development
This (to me) shows a level of confidence in their long term plans that I don't think we've seen from Nintendo HQ in a long time.
It looks a lot more promising than all of the downsizing and consolidation we have become accustomed to in the gaming world the last few years.
Re: Fantasy Life Online Comes Out In English On iOS And Android Today
Fantasy Life on tue 3ds was such a surprising hit for me! I didn't think I would enjoy it as much as I did, but I had a blast. (80+ hours!)
I'm hoping that if this proves successful that there may be hope for a proper console sequel.

Metroid Dread, and continuing my playthrough of Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin. Playing Richter mode now.
