1. The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks 2. Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D (never played Metal Gear Solid 3, but enjoyed 1 and 2) 3. Golden Sun: Dark Sun
@Zeldafan79 Absolutely. I think Shovel Knight is one of the only indie games that really interested me, just because it is such a cool love letter to some of my favorite games.
@Zeldafan79 I feel the exact same way. There is so much new content every week that there is no way to keep up. Lately it has started reminding me of the end of the NES's lifespan, when there were so many games coming out (and not a lot of them good) that I would just sit there at the video store scratching my head.
Then I would pick something with ninjas in it. That seemed to be a safe bet.
Still playing SMT IV on the 3ds. About 40-45 hours in. What an amazing rpg. Probably going to still be playing this when I can for the next week or two.
I'm continuing to play Shin Megami Tensei IV. Being my first SMT game, I can't believe I have missed out for so long. Other than the very poor navigation on the Tokyo map, this game is perfect. I just can't get enough of it.
Time permitting, I am going to pick back up Final Fantasy Explorers. I remember enjoying it, but I never put in more than a couple of hours into it
Well, I had never played a Shin Megami Tensei game (or it's spinoffs) before, and I decided due to that killer eshop sale to check out SMT 4.... Man, I am so glad I did. It is absolutely amazing. I am hooked, and will be playing when I can this weekend.
@ThanosReXXX Thank you so much for this information, as well as this well thought out and friendly response. In all fairness, while I may disagree on the importance of the content cut, I do highly respect your viewpoint and I think I understand better where you are coming from. I love JRPGs, but this type of content definitely isn't my cup of tea. I apologize before for poking fun in a previous response, and I can respectfully agree to disagree on seeing value in the type of content being cut/altered, but do agree with you now in general on the impacts of censorship in our favorite pastime:)
@tobibra You are absolutely right. It is a different situation, but I feel it was a little appropriate, given the backlash I have read about that situation more recently.
Here is maybe a better example, from a creator's standpoint. As a person who creates, releases, and licenses my music out, sometimes my "original vision" isn't always the best. My Producer is one of the most important resources I have, because sometimes keeping a different viewpoint in mind helps to still get my broad strokes on the musical canvas and refine it further.
Same goes for licensing. I know that if I choose to license my music for film or tv, then a song maybe edited, cut, remixed, etc. It isn't my "original vision", but is a choice I have to make if I want my work to reach more people. When I am not willing to do that with certain music, I keep it indie.
If it is as big a deal to the creators of this game, they have that choice as well. Has anyone asked the actual team what they thought about these localization changes?
This seems like such an odd hill to make a stand on, when it comes to feeling slighted with what is really just a piece of entertainment.
It reminds me of the Great Super Mario controversy of 1988, when Nintendo had the gall to give poor Americans a totally different version of Super Mario Bros. 2, and we all screamed censorship... except that didn't happen. Almost everyone I know who played it loved it actually.. Then, when the Japanese version of 2 came out as The Lost Levels, there was this resounding and triumphant cry of "Huh..." and we all went back to playing Super Mario World.
Also, during the same console generation, Tecmo gave us a MUCH more difficult version of Ninja Gaiden 3: Ancient Ship Of Doom. Oh, how I wish they would have given us the game that was the original vision of the creators, because maybe then I would have been able to beat it . The US version was brutal... because CENSORSHIP!!!!
That was my daily allowance of sarcasm for the day.
@scully1888 Hey, I just wanted to say thank you for your honest and informative review. I know you're taking a lot of heat, but there are a bunch of us who are right there with you. As a father of a young girl who also games with me (I am introducing her to a lot of appropriate RPGs as well), I completely agree with your stance and appreciate games that I am not embarrassed or appalled by to share with her.
She is smart enough to pick up on the creepy factor when friends of hers play games that have been "uncensored" from Japan. It was a tough conversation when one day she asked my wife and I why "Creepy Old Men like to look at little girls like her in games ". She has also asked why anyone would think that would be ok or legal. She is a very smart kid.
She has sadly picked up on that creepy vibe sometimes when we go to comic book shops or gaming stores, and we tell her to always trust her gut. She also told us she didn't want to go to a friend's house anymore because her friend's Dad always played "icky rpgs with little girls" when the kids were around. Like I said, smart kid
@TheFox I have been following the issue with that Silver Falls game, and it appears that due to an issue on Nintendo's side and out of their control, the game never went live.
Then, when they contacted Nintendo about it, the appropriate people were out on vacation for the holidays, so they were stuck in limbo.
Just finished King of Cards, and so when I have time I may try and finally best Xenoblade 3d. That, and rumor has it that my wife bought me a copy of Chrono Trigger DS for Christmas. I can't wait to play that!
King of Cards all the way. I am in the second section of the map, and just loving this game. After I beat it, I may replay Shovel of Hope and the first 2 expansions. This entire package is easily one of my favorite games of all time.
This weekend I am playing The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass. I had played it back in the day but never finished it. I recently picked up a copy, and I am so glad I did.
I am continuing to go through my DS/3DS backlog, and loving it. I just beat Ever Oasis (lovely game), and am now playing Magical Starsign. It is a cute little rpg, with really great pixel art, but definitely an earlier DS game, due to the fact that all of the menus have to be accessed with the touch screen. I am enjoying it, though.
On my daughter's recommendation (she's 11), I finally started playing through Ever Oasis this week. This game has it's hooks in me for sure. What a wonderful game that is so much more than the sum of it's parts. Definitely becoming one of my favorite 3ds games.
I completely understand, but I still have such a massive backlog that I will be playing for years to come. The 3ds is my favorite console of all time, and nothing yet has come close. I just need to buy some backup hardware while I can!
Playing more Final Fantasy 4 (DS). Whew... what a game. The grind is real!
Also playing Gurumin 3d for the 1st time. I am really split on this. What a delightful game, horribly marred by one of the worst cases of pedophilia I have ever witnessed in a game. As a father of a little girl, it is bothering me quite a bit, especially since I was planning on playing it with her. Some of the innuendo is just unacceptable for that to happen, though. Especially when this creepy character literally "forces his sweaty parts" on a little girl... horrible.
Let's see, I have never played:
Any pokemon game
Any Animal Crossing game
Zelda: Majora's Mask
Chrono Trigger (I aim on getting around to it though!)
Witcher 3 (own it on PS4 but haven't gotten around to it)
Minecraft
Overwatch
Fortnight
WoW
...and many more... and I have been gaming consistently since the Atari 2600!
I loved this game so much on the 3ds. I am glad that it has come to the Switch to hopefully find an even bigger audience. I have the 3ds Limited Edition and still pop in the soundtrack occasionally. I definitely recommend this one.
1. Back to Alliance Alive (took a break to play a few other things). 2. Project X Zone (been really curious about this series and picked up both games on the 3ds cheap recently)
@brandonbwii Guardian Legend would be a great choice. In my opinion, that game should have gotten several sequels by now. Still one of the best NES games ever.
I am so excited that I was able to pick up Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia and The Alliance Alive the other day, and have been playing them quite a bit.
I don't have a ton of time this weekend, but I am finally playing through Scurge: Hive (DS), and for some RPG goodness I am going to try and finish Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology (3DS).
I loved my TG-16 sooo much as a kid. I remember some kid at my school convinced me that NEC stood for Nintendo Entertainment Corporation, and that it was some sort of offshoot company of Nintendo proper. Made no sense, but I believed him anyway....
@charlieonholiday I can completely understand that! I used to fly for work nonstop, and the 3ds really served me well. Nothing like getting through some long layovers with some great rpgs
I am looking forward to playing Xenoblade 2 as well. I am so happy with the 3ds that I'm just not ready to make the "Switch"
Any time I travel my 3ds and an RPG or 2 are always in my bag.
@charlieonholiday
Oh wow! I am trying for most of the great 3ds and DS rpgs, but probably won't do all of them.
DQ7 was incredible. 8 even more so. Oh man, I love the Mario & Luigi games. They are just like pure comfort food

Let's see, when I get a chance this weekend:
1. The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks
2. Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D (never played Metal Gear Solid 3, but enjoyed 1 and 2)
3. Golden Sun: Dark Sun

I beat Sands of Destruction (DS) the other day, so now I am playing:
Golden Sun: Dark Dawn (DS)
Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks (DS)
... and I picked up an old fav of mine the other day, that my daughter and I have been playing a lot of.... Diddy Kong Racing (DS)!!!
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (February 8th)
Continuing on with SMT 4 (3DS). I think I am getting close to the Endgame, but I keep getting sucked in by the sidequests.
After I finish that, back to wrapping up Sands of Destruction (DS), and starting up Zelda: Spirit Tracks (DS) for the 1st time!
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (February 1st)
Still playing SMT IV on the 3ds. About 40-45 hours in. What an amazing rpg. Probably going to still be playing this when I can for the next week or two.
Re: The Poor Old Nintendo 3DS Has Sold Just 620,000 Units In The Past Nine Months
The 3ds line is still my favorite console in history. So many good games. In fact, I bought 2 more this week!
If you include the expansive DS library (which I do), I still have several years' worth of quality content to enjoy.

I have been playing the DS version of Chrono Trigger on my 3ds. All of these years later and it is still an amazing game.

Taking a break from Final Fantasy 4 (DS). Got to the part where you fight the 4 elemental bosses back to back, and just got destroyed.
So, I started Nostalgia, also on the DS. Seems like a really cool RPG so far. Love the alternate 19th century setting.

3. GTA: Chinatown Wars

Continuing my playthrough of Alliance Alive for the 3ds (such a great little rpg; plus Robbins might be the coolest Penguin ever in a game).
Also, decided to play through Metroid: Samus Returns for the 3rd time (1st time on hard mode). That game is just near perfect for me.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (July 27th)

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (July 6th)
Playing through DQ 6 right now before getting back into 8 yet again... I will probably play through 8 on my 3ds every year until my system finally gives up the ghost.
Also playing through the Mega Man Zero collection. My gamer abilities are not nearly what they once were, and this collection proves it!
Re: After Five Years, Shovel Knight Has Now Sold More Than 2.5 Million Copies

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (May 18th)
Mostly the same as last weekend.
Monster Hunter Stories (such a great game), Picross 3d Round 2, and Donkey Kong Country 2.
I only played the first DKC as a kid, so it is a blast getting to finally play 2 and 3.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (May 11th)
More Monster Hunter Stories, the original 3 Donkey Kong Country games, and Picross 3d Round 2.
Yup, serious 3ds lovin' this weekend.
Re: 3DS Sales Might Be Lower, But The Demand Is Still Stable
It continually amazes me after all these years with my 3ds that I am still finding new games to enjoy.
Finally got around to Monster Hunter Stories... so good.
Also finished my Dragon Quest DS collection, and am playing through 6, also great.
My daughter andI have such a huge list of games to play, that we will be buying new 3ds hardware before either of us think of another new console.
We have a PS4, and other than Horizon, it is just a pretty paperweight..
Re: Nintendo Has “Nothing New” To Announce For 3DS In Terms Of First-Party Game Releases

My backlog is still a mile high, and I have plenty to play on this awesome system for years to come.
