I decided this weekend to play the original Metroid trilogy on 3ds (Substituting Samus Returns for the GB version of 2, since the remake is soooo amazing).
Metroid 1 is a hard game to revisit, but still wonderful in a lot of ways. Going from Samus Returns to Super Metroid isn't that strange, actually. In some ways, it feels just right.
This list is great, and considering I could easily add another awesome 50 games on top of that without thinking very hard about it, proves to me once again why the 3ds is my favorite system of all time.
I still have a backlog about a mile long of games to play and complete, and I am definitely not ready to put this wonderful system to rest yet.
On a side note: I am really considering buying a back up system for when my new 3ds xl finally bites the dust. Anyone else thought of doing this?
I will never forget beating Ecco 1 and 2; it felt like the gaming equivalent of climbing Mt. Everest. I loved those games so much.
On a side note: the Sega CD versions of those games have the some of the most gorgeous songs on their soundtracks (game or film) I have ever heard. I still listen to them occasionally.
@SDF_Macross77 Same background here. I still have all of the Jack McKinney books! If Harlock is in this game, I don't know why they couldn't have some Veritech love as well.
Even better: I would love if they remastered the Robotech game from the Gamecube days for the Switch.
Replaying Portrait of Ruin for the umpteenth time, as well as finally playing the 2 Dragon Fantasy games on 3ds. Picked them up due to each currently being 99 cents. I have to admit, they are pretty great little games.
I have worried about their business fragmentation too in the past, but I almost think Nintendo needs multiple systems, so that one's success can carry the other. In the past, their handhelds have definitely cushioned the fall of their home console sales, at least compared to their competitors.
That said, I haven't met a Nintendo system I didn't like
I think I am in a 3 way tie between the 3DS, Super NES, and the Xbox 360.
NES comes in still at a dose 4th though (maybe tied with the PS2).
However, I still have a huge soft spot for the TG-16. So many underrated games on that system.
@denis09 Oh, I have no doubt I will absolutely love owning a Switch, and we can afford one, it's just that there are so many great games between the 3DS and the DS, that even after owning 50ish games, my backlog is still huge.
The appeal of playing beefier games on the Switch is pretty big though.
I have owned so many consoles (almost every major one from the NES on until the last console generation), that I am really trying to teach my kid to get the most out of what you have, rather than just be spoiled like I was growing up. So, maybe part of it is trying to teach a little responsibility to both of us
My daughter is 10 and we still play ours (I have a new 3ds XL and she has the old 2ds model). I can tell you that even though we want a Switch, she REALLY wants a new 2ds xl. There are so many games that she still wants to play on this platform that I really don't see us needing to even get a Switch for a while.
The 3ds line is probably still in my top 3 consoles of all time.
Playing Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon, and really enjoying the classic Castlevania vibe. Such a great game so far!
Speaking of Castlevania: since it's that time of year, I am playing through Portrait of Ruin (for the 20th time I think), as well as Castlevania 3. I have still never beaten this game...
Is it just me, or would someone else love to see a Lords Of Shadow collection on a Nintendo console? The 1st one and Mirror of Fate were really awesome, IMO.
Let's see, since it is October I picked up Dementium Remastered for the 3ds. I am really liking it! Also, FINALLY am trying out Etrian Mystery Dungeon. It is brutally difficult at times but I really enjoy it.
I am finally buckling down and focusing solely on Xenoblade Chronicles 3D. The 1st time I tried playing it, I was also trying to clear out some of my 3ds backlog, and I just didn't get into it as much. Stopped about 20 hours in.
This time, however, for some reason, I decided to start over and it seriously has it's hooks in me. About 45 hours in, and I think it is a wonderful game.
Part of me really wishes Sega would one day re-enter the world of hardware. No gimmicks, unneeded extras, etc., just an awesome console to provide some friendly competition with the Big N.
Or, at the very least, increase their creative output of games for Nintendo consoles. Sega has so many great titles they could revisit, or even create some new IP.
Wow, for me, the 3ds games are a great deal after such a huge drought in content on My Nintendo. Plus, I just happen to have enough coins for all of them!
These are 3 games I have really wanted to play, but have fallen off my radar due to working on my backlog. No complaints here.
Monster Hunter Generations on the 3ds! I tried 3U back in the day, and other than being a great looking game, I never got into it.
Now, trying the series again and this time things have finally clicked into place for me. As the systems and dynamics of the game keep revealing new things, I find it is rapidly becoming one of my favorite games.
@River3636 I am absolutely loving it. It's funny that as a kid when the NES was new, I had zero interest in JRPG's. Zelda was the closest I got to a role playing game, as I was all about Mario, Mega Man, Ninja Gaiden, etc. Now, as an adult, JRPG's are what I mostly play!
Dragon Quest 9 on my 3ds! I have really gotten into the mainline DQ games in the last couple of years, and have absolutely loved 4, 7 and 8 (the 3ds remasters).

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (February 9th)
This weekend I am playing Culdcept Revolt on the 3ds.
My wife gave it to me for an early Valentine's Day present, and it is brilliant.
Also, I'm still playing through the Radiant Historia remake for the 1st time. Dang, this game is great.
Re: Feature: What The Creator of Ecco The Dolphin Did Next
@Sabrewing
I really liked Defenders of the future, too. It wasn't the first 2, but for the time it was a decent 3d follow up.
I never knew this footage existed! Thank you!

@SDF_Macross77 completely off topic, but major kudos to your username and profile pic. Always nice to see another Macross and/or Robotech fan.

@Frendo I completely agree. I have been replaying Portrait of Ruin, and it amazes how well the NDS 'Vanias still hold up.

Haha, I agree on good games, but there are plenty

Let's see, since it is October I picked up Dementium Remastered for the 3ds.
I am really liking it!
Also, FINALLY am trying out Etrian Mystery Dungeon. It is brutally difficult at times but I really enjoy it.

@aromain150
Kid Icarus Uprising definitely is a fantastic game. Now, I may have to go and replay that...
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (October 6th)
Since it's October, it's my tradition to start playing some horror-themed games.
Just started Creeping Terror and Dementium Remastered (both on 3ds). I'm enjoying them quite a bit!
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (September 22nd)
Just hit the 50 hour mark in Xenoblade Chronicles 3D... and still feel like I am just scratching the surface!
Such an amazing game.

Playing Severed for the 1st time on the 3DS, and I have been totally sucked in. What a great little gem.

Re: Talking Point: What Games Are You Playing This Weekend? - The Triumphant(?) Return
Samus Returns (going through on hard mode now), and Xenoblade Chronicles 3D for me.
Looking at my backlog, the 3ds is far from dead for me.
