Re: Super Mario Maker Gets Mid-Level Checkpoints and More in Upcoming Update

Garushi

Glad to finally have check points. Here's hoping people make good use of them. There have been a lot of levels I stumbled across and had fun playing, but they were so long that when I died, I just didn't want to make the effort of playing through them again from the start but definitely would have continued had there been a checkpoint.

Can't say I care too much about the other stuff. The level up power ups is something a lot of people have asked for. However, there are still so many things missing.I can't really get excited to have a harder version of an already hard easter egg mini game that has nothing to do with the main gameplay before getting slopes, desert/sky/ice/forest backgrounds, all of the awesome Super Mario World and Mario 3 enemies that are missing, tile water and lava, more level aesthetics like new semi-solid platform designs, colored warp pipes, some new bosses, level filtering/tagging, athletic theme music...

May not be everything I wanted, but I've been dying for some Smash or Mario Maker DLC news. I was beginning to lose hope, but now I have some hype again. Nintendo is listening to fan demand..let's hope they keep listening and we get the rest of the stuff I mentioned above.

Re: Super Mario Maker DLC Confirmed, Famitsu's Mascot Necky The Fox Coming Soon

Garushi

Article is confusing. Title says "Super Mario Maker DLC CONFIRMED". Then the article says no official DLC has been confirmed, just some youtuber speculating...then one sentence later says the first round of DLC will be costumes.

The game definitely needs DLC though and I hope they don't charge for it, at least at first. They left out a lot of obvious inclusions so if they release DLC packs with obvious stuff like the tanooki suit, slopes, checkpoints, desert world setting, etc, it's just going to feel like stuff that was cut from the game in order to sell back to the customers at a later date.

Re: Man Goes On Quest To Buy Every Single amiibo In Australia In 24 Hours

Garushi

That picture in the thumbnail is just mindblowing to someone like me who lives in the US. I'll never understand how other places in the world can have such bountiful amiibo stock while one of Nintendo's biggest markets gets absolutely screwed in terms of both stock and store exclusivity. I've never seen the majority of those amiibo on shelves and I probably never will. At this point it would almost be too late anyway. I've already been forced to import and/or pay double retail or more for half of my amiibo.

Re: Super Smash Bros. Is Getting A Massive Update On July 31st

Garushi

"On 3DS, new stages and Mii Fighter costumes will be made available. These are paid-for DLC, unlike the elements of the Wii U update."

Can someone explain what this means, please? Does the Wii U version not get Hyrule Castle/Peach's Castle? Or is it free for the Wii U version but you have to buy it for the 3DS version?

Re: Amazon Teases an amiibo Announcement for Monday 13th July

Garushi

I've never purchased from Amazon before. I guess I'd better start looking into it, eh? I scored D3 and Ness from Gamestop yesterday and Rosalina from Target this morning, so that was awesome. I missed Wii Fit and Pit though, but their prices seem to be coming down.

Re: Super Smash Bros. for Wii U Updated to Version 1.0.9, Its Purpose is Unknown

Garushi

"More pleasant gaming experience" eh? I wonder if it has something to do with the alleged "Smash Purgatory" where players who are reported too much are sent and they are only allowed to play against other "banned" players.

I know last night when I was playing I got booted offline after a match and when I tried to reconnect I got a message saying the servers were undergoing maintenance. I've had a lot of connection issues for the past two months even though my connection with everyone else works fine, but I don't know if it was something on Nintendo's end or if I've been in the so-called Smash Purgatory.

Re: Dark Pit amiibo Exclusive To Best Buy In North America

Garushi

SIGH.

Well, I guess this is another Amiibo I won't be getting! No Best Buy anywhere near me. I really don't understand why Nintendo continues to shaft NA on things. No big amiibo restocks, store exclusive amiibo, Woolly World not released until October, lame Club Nintendo rewards compared to everywhere else...

I really need to figure out how to do this Amazon importing thing that everyone talks about. I'd gladly pay a few extra bucks to guarantee I get an amiibo but I just don't know enough about the process.

Re: Nintendo's Official UK Store Restocks on Some Rare amiibo

Garushi

I'm tempted to just start trying to import Amiibo from Europe/Japan if I can find them for MSPR, but I fear the shipping and import costs will be too much to bother. I guess I'll just have to wait it out and hope the situation gets fixed over here in the US, but I doubt it will since a lot of the amiibo are store exclusives and that adds an extra layer of rarity and difficulty to finding them.

Re: Editorial: Nintendo's Approach to amiibo is Increasingly Frustrating

Garushi

@Area47 Thrill of the hunt becomes not-thrilling when you can't actually hunt for the amiibo. If there was actually a reasonable chance that you could walk into a Walmart/Gamestop/target/WHATEVER and find a Little Mac, Marth, Ness, Shulk, Dedede, etc on the shelf, then yeah, it would be fun. Sure, it happens to some people. Maybe 1% of the Amiibo hunters, but for the vast majority, it's just not something we can ever expect to happen unless something drastically changes.

Re: Editorial: Nintendo's Approach to amiibo is Increasingly Frustrating

Garushi

@Kaze_Memaryu

Man, it makes me so jealous to hear that! I wish one of my friends was in your situation so I could pay them to go to the store and pick up the amiibo for me. I feel like I live in the middle of nowhere. We don't even have a Toys R Us, Target or Best Buy anywhere around, but apparently there are still plenty of Amiibo hoards/scalpers/collectors here because they sell out the minute the stores open.

Re: Reggie Fils-Aime Acknowledges the Need to Improve amiibo Stock Availability

Garushi

@JaxonH Are all of these Amiibo you're buying up North American versions or are they European/Japanese? The prices sound good, but I'm not sure if I should buy amiibo that are region locked on the off chance that I want to actually use them for something down the road...just wondering if I should keep waiting and hoping they become common in the US...

Re: Street Fighter Legend Ryu And Fire Emblem's Roy Found In Super Smash Bros. Patch Code

Garushi

I don't know if I can contain my hype! I was already so hyped about Lucas returning tomorrow and now potential confirmation that my favorite character from Melee is indeed returning? And I'm always up for new characters! Especially ones I actually know. Can't wait to play as Ryu! Looks like he gets his stage in the game as well? Smash U definitely needs some more stages. I can't wait to see what that's all about.

Re: Official Nintendo UK Store Flogs Rare amiibo in Bundles

Garushi

@RupeeClock

Wait...are Zelda and Toon Link suddenly rare or something? I see Zelda everywhere around here and one of the Wal-Marts and Sam Goody are both full of Toon Link Amiibo. Gamestop has a couple as well. Should I get one sooner than later?

Also, what do you consider to be a good price for Amiibo like Pit and Little Mac on Amazon? I looked on there the other day because I heard people mention great deals on Amazon, but every Amiibo on there that's "rare" was like $30-$50, even the imports. I found a Japanese Dedede import for $11....with $30 shipping... >_>

Re: Rumour: GameStop No Longer Taking amiibo Preorders, Limiting Sales To One Figure Per Person

Garushi

I don't really see how this will help much. Gamestops still only get a couple of any rare amiibo in stock at a time. Scalpers will just grab a buddy or two to help them get around the 1 per customer rule.

When the Ness amiibo came out, my local Gamestop actually hid it behind the counter. They didn't even put it out on the rack. They hid it and made it "request only", as in you could only get it if you knew they had it in stock and specifically asked for it. I missed it because I didn't know this and it really makes me angry. Store exclusive Amiibo should never have been a thing.

Re: Video: GameChap Shows Us Five Ways to Get Banned From Super Smash Bros. for Wii U

Garushi

Mmm...there's a lot of misinformation in this video. I've been many, many taunt parties and I've been kicked numerous times for things that were probably legit and things that were absolutely ridiculous.

First off: You're not actually getting BANNED. All that happens is you get booted from the current game and have to go to a new lobby. It's possible that Nintendo may actually issue a time ban if you get booted too many times in a certain time frame, but it hasn't happened to me yet. I think I've been kicked 2-3 times in less than an hour and received no ban. As far as I know, these all only apply to 4 player For Fun, Team For Fun and maybe 4 player For Glory.

Idling: You don't get booted for idling by "spamming attacks" (if you did every For Fun Charizard player would be banned AMIRITE), "not attacking", "making noise" or "running away". You WILL get booted for idling if you go 30 seconds without JUMPING. It's good to move from the same spot as well, but if you want to avoid being kicked for idling, just jump once in a while. If you stand on the ground without jumping for an extended period of time, even if you're crawling, walking, running or attacking, you'll be flagged as being idle.

Dogpiling/Double Teaming/Excessive targeting: I've actually been booted for this one quite a few times. As far as I can tell, you do not actually get booted for teaming up on someone. I've been in countless taunt parties where a new player comes in and attacks everyone and the other two players in the group gang up on and repeatedly KO the new player. I've seen the same player get ganged up on for like 10 games in a row and nothing happened to the players doing it.

What SEEMS to be the case is if you do a certain amount of damage OR KO 1 player a certain amount of times in a short timeframe without damaging another player, then you get flagged as "Excessively Targeting" that player. I'll give two examples of when I got booted for this:

Example 1: I was in a For Fun match that turned into a taunt party. I was using Villager and so was another player. We decided to play hot potato using Villager's tree and Pocket move (basically tossing the tree back and forth to each other until one fails to catch it with the Pocket). The player I was doing this with failed to catch the tree and got insta-KOd by it. We started again and after a few seconds he missed the tree and got KOd a second time. As soon as he did I was kicked for
'excessively targeting' him. I've had this same scenario happen three times.

Example 2: I was in 4 Player For Fun match. I must have really angered this guy who was playing as Mewtwo because from the very start of the match he went right after me and wouldn't leave me alone. I engaged him a bit then ran away to fight other people but he kept chasing me and trying to hit me with Shadow Ball. I got sick of it and reflected a Shadow Ball, instantly KOing him. He didn't learn his lesson and as soon as he respawned he started the exact same thing again. I reflected his Shadow Ball a second time, KOing him AGAIN and then I got booted for targeting him. HE stalks ME for half the match, I KO him two times via reflected Shadow Ball and I get punished. Apparently you're not allowed to defend yourself!

So yeah, there you go. This video is a bit sensationalist and they don't really seem to understand WHY it is that they are getting kicked out of the current match (not banned). You WILL get a 10 minute ban (sometimes longer) if you quit mid-match in online play with strangers, but I think everyone knows that.
