@InTree You are forced online to keep access to the games every seven days.
But what if you weren’t interested in Winback? There are many games both popular and niche on nso I enjoy and a lot that I would never touch. But they all take up precious memory space! $50 a year for games and services I’d never use is not money well spent. At least with VC you can buy only the titles you want many times on a discounted price. NSO is a good alternative but it shouldn’t be the only option available.
@InTree I’m sure Winback has its fans and many of them would prefer to play it offline and not subscribe.
Myself personally I don’t play online, neither do I have a constant readily available internet service nor do I have any of the games that have dlc given free through the service so I can’t justify paying $20 let alone $50 a year. I would be better off just buying the individual games that I want instead.
@InTree I’m shocked beyond all imagination that popular games are well……….so popular! Of course popular games that lots of people enjoy would sell really well. But that’s not saying the other niche games haven’t done well. Most of them have been laying dormant for years not making any money at all then vc comes along giving them the ability to be enjoyed once again.
@Moonlessky I don’t think you can purchase 3ds vc on their website. @Nua I’ve heard it from many that it can do it. Maybe not as well as the New but to a competent level anyway.
Someone explain why we can’t purchase the snes vc games on a og 3ds. We should be able to purchase them and download them later if you can manage to get a new 3ds (although we should be able to play them on a og no problem) or hopefully they will implement vc on switch with Crossbuy being offered.
It’s only been since June last year that any new games were added to the nes/snes libraries. Good grief what is taking them so long? I hope VC comes back!
@Funneefox Really?! Their decision to keep the Disney Afternoon Collection off of switch is still baffling. In fact the way Capcom handles their collections is questionable.
@WhiteTrashGuy That may be true but it’s still part of a trilogy story so it probably has a unsatisfying ending and who knows when the other parts will release. It’s one of the biggest reasons I’d rather they would’ve just held off and just put out all of it.
@WhiteTrashGuy Thing is I know it’s only a third of the story and I’d rather have access to the full story rather than play it and be without the other two parts.
I’m kinda split if I’ll pick it up or not. On one hand I’ve never played a Metroid Prime game before so this is a great opportunity. On the other hand it’s part of a trilogy so I might be better off to just wait until after the Trilogy is remastered and just get all three then.
I don’t subscribe to NSO but a poll yay! Seriously we need more options to play these games rather than subscribe to an online service for these offline games. Add in the ability to transfer purchases like crossbuy/cross play and purchase individual titles like gamepass.
I’m not going to say the game didn’t lack polish. Buuuuuuuuuuuuuuut, it was definitely a game I remember well and I got enjoyment out of it. It was a game you had to understand since it was different every time (which meant I could play it multiple times and not have the same experience twice). I even remember the other games that my dad picked up in a lot with this including Chip and Dale, TMNT 1&2, Videomation and Little Mermaid off the top of my head. Saying they don’t deserve to be on the shop is a very strange thing to say given the amount of actual shovelware on it.
@ATHFjman18
I have it and I enjoy it for what it is (the nes game). At least it’s different. Of course I also enjoy Jekyll and Hyde too but I’ve played it so much I understand how the game works. Maybe if more would sit down and actually “play” these games rather than go in with the bias it’s a bad game ergo I’m going to have a bad time.
They really need to set a release schedule instead of just dropping games at random intervals every 1/2 a year. Last the NES/SNES apps were updated was last summer so around 8 months give it take. This is one of the biggest reasons, besides lack of crossbuy, the VC was put to pasture. If they don’t keep interest in the service the consumers will lose theirs. Many of you know how passionate I am regarding VC and the freedom it allowed not to mention the money it brought to Nintendo for very little effort. Why for the love of God do they keep falling into the same pitfalls?!
I’m a bit disappointed it’s just the first game and not the Trilogy. I’m considering outright skipping this in hope that a remastered Trilogy is on the way.
@JakedaArbok The best games? That is a matter of personal preference. I’d argue Mario Land 3: Wario Land is better than Golden Coins. Alone in the Dark GBC is one of the best games on the system? Really?!
What logic exactly did they follow when putting together these games for the service? Wario 3, Mario Land 2 and G&W 3? It seems they forgot these are sequels. I would’ve thought the numbers would make it obvious.
@Magician I don’t think it’s a bad game. It’s just a bad Contra game. It’s control scheme just doesn’t feel like Contra. Neo Contra is by far the best 3d Contra in my honest opinion.
The ability to purchase individual games on the nso game apps for those that don’t want to subscribe. Criminal Girls 3 announced for switch along with 1&2 remastered. Star Tropics 3. Dynowarz: Return to Spondylus. Disney Afternoon Collection Plus featuring the game boy ports and Goof Troop exclusively on switch. Capcom Crossover collection.
@johnvboy That’s just what I don’t understand. They are in the business of making money so why aren’t they trying to nickel and dime consumers in this way?
@johnvboy
But you are going to end up having a lot of memory space taken up by games you have no interest in while before you could buy only what you wanted and if need be could temporarily delete it and retrieve it later.
I don’t see the value in the service. Anyone who doesn’t care about online play is pretty much in the same boat as I am. To me it is a scam since I stand to lose out on most of the benefits. Thanks to the check in requirement I lose access to the only feature I’m interested in vs how I could just buy individual vc titles on my 3ds and play indefinitely. I’ve said it earlier in here but the last games added to the base subscription were back in the summer of last year. That’s around half a year with no new content added. Why are they ignoring it? It’s the same thing over and over again. Can’t they ever learn from their mistakes and actually make good decisions regarding this?! As far as I see it they’d get money whether you subbed or bought a game out right as on VC. So why limit it to just subs? $50 may be cheap compared to other services but if you aren’t getting the most out of the service then it’s a waste. You say I could go in with a family plan and get it cheaper?! Why?! I’d still be in the same boat and would still not have complete access to what I payed for when I want it.
@nocdaes The classic games are tied to the online service. What if you don’t play online and only want access to the games? You still have to pay. You also have no control over what games are available to you.
@Wexter I agree on the last bit for sure. I’d also say the account system should be like Sony was back in the vita and psp days where you could download your past purchases for free.
@Wexter No I’m quite serious. Instead of companies complaining about rom sites and how they are hurting their bottom line but do nothing to fix the problem. You can see how they are handling the classic game apps now and there is no improvement over vc and they are still being drip feed! Heck the last games added to the base tier was in may or June of last year! There’s honestly no excuse why they can’t release them faster and offer them for sale too.
@Wexter No I was just showing you the fallacy of your argument. It wouldn’t be an impossible feat to have all, if not most of, the games available. Goldeneye is here and it was a tricky situation. The first TMNT game was on Wii v and now all of them are available on switch (most of the TMNT Konami games anyway not counting the 2000 era series). You would think after all this time they would stop drip feeding and restarting services and just put out the games.
@Wexter All the examples I mentioned fit into their own logic. The odd one out is Dracula X on the advance collection. It was neither on the advance nor did it match the gameplay style.
@Wexter
Capcom and Konamis collections are missing several games! Where’s Castlevania Legends and GB Kid Dracula on the Castlevania ones or Contra Force and Alien Wars GB?! The Capcom Megaman collections also have notable exemptions such as Battle and Chase, Wily Wars, The Xtreme series and classic Megaman GB, Network Transmission and Battle Chip Challenge and that’s just off the top of my head!
A complete collection like that wouldn’t be easy but it’s absolutely doable. I still enjoy many of the LJN games and if you actually played them instead of watching a single angry nerd crap on it you might enjoy them too. (Except Milons Castle it’s just bad but that’s just me.)
@johnvboy I’m sure it was very profitable for them when they actually added games to the service. Kinda hard to get sales when you add nothing new in years (and they are still doing today, last nes and snes games were added back in may or June).
Unlike Netflix whose collection is constantly changing the game collections (officially licensed) are finite in what they can offer. According to Wikipedia there are 716 nes games, 721 snes, 878 Sega Genesis and 296 N64. That’s all of the officially licensed games so that’s it compared to new series and films being released on a minute to minute basis. Sell most games for between $5-$10 and then the money would just print itself! Oh yeah and if you subbed you could get access to everything as long as you subbed and could check out as many games as you wanted in your tier group!
@Wexter They didn’t have an account system then but they do now. I’m still holding out for a unified VC probably after the 3ds/wiiu storefronts shutter then you could access a lot more. The subscription service is passable I guess but there really needs to be an option for those that prefer to play offline.
@johnvboy But they do have an account system now! Not to mention most tied their 3ds and wiiu to the account so we can still add funds to buy on their eshops so it wouldn’t be out of the question that VC games could be transferred.
