Re: Hands On: Luigi’s Mansion 3 Is Shaping Up To Be The Best In The Series

FlameRunnerFast

@Wavey84 Yup, pretty much my sentiments. Dark moon was disappointing because while the ghosts had decent jokes at times and some puzzles were fine, a lot of the game was boring. Also interesting boss fights? 2 of them were mook rushes and the ice slide one was infuriatingly slow.

I hope those more detailed ghosts are more like portrait ghosts, but they still feel generic too some degree. Most of the ghosts in the original Luigi's Mansion had a unique gimmick to reveal them; such as with Neville and Lydia, the first two ghosts in the game. That, their unique rooms that fits the inside of a mansion well, unique artstyle, and interesting bio helped make them memorable. The mansion also was creepy in it's own right without the comical ghosts. But since the director of LM1 is working on Mario Kart, I suppose we won't see him direct another LM any time soon.

Dark moon threw this out for areas which, while some fit a mansion,.....most were generic ish rooms in a blocky 3DS title that rarely stood out. Reminded me of a SMB 3D land/world stage; built for a specific purpose in gameplay and not much to expand the world of the game. At least 3 seems to be doing better in this regard. Though the different hotel levels systems seems like the mission structure with another paint of coat.

Lastly, while the twin stick style was interesting, it was also a pain to control. Moving the c stick while holding the flashlight with A wasn't the most comfortable. They could have fixed it such as with the multiple trigger buttons we have now, but the existing system isn't bad. Only the feel of barely holding on has been lost since it controls more smoothly.

Re: XSEED Games Cops Backlash Online For Not Crediting Former Employee

FlameRunnerFast

While I agree this policy is wrong...I also think posting this on Twitter for internet backlash was childish. Take this to court, don't try to backstab the company. She probably did sign a contract agreeing to this, so she can't say she was misused. The company did not force her to sign up with them. I'm pretty sure she could have her government change their policy on the grounds of plagiarism, but not specifically for her case.

Re: Soapbox: In Praise Of Save States, Rewinds And Walkthroughs

FlameRunnerFast

@carlos82 I personally think that while you should try to learn a game and not use the mechanics for a crutch, that highly depends on the game and your investment in them. Not all games give a fair difficulty curve and don't let you adapt to them properly. For example, try to beat Super Monkey Ball 1 on expert legit. I have no problem doing the more interesting levels legit, but the levels that are suuuper thin on purpose are ones I save state past immediately. One level on the master round of courses expected you to perfectly roll yourself up a hill around 0.1-0.5 meters thick, then do the same on moving platforms, and then an ok roll down a slide. Save stating through it took like 10 minutes; only masters/speedrunners will beat that level legit. They clearly were from that arcade difficulty mentality and are not fun at all. Yet the level where I have to manage around a rotating box on a later stage? Sure, I'll do it legit.

So yeah rewinds/save states are perfectly fine if you don't feel the game is fun/tolerable without them, but shouldn't prevent you from learning the game.

Re: Feature: 10 Things We'd Like To See In Animal Crossing On The Switch

FlameRunnerFast

@Manah To add to your first idea, yeah the HHA is crap. They basically want you to have specific full furniture sets to max it out. I think what would be better is to rank people based on how unique their room is compared to everyone else. This would allow you to do what you want and inspire creativity, as the same tired design would bring your score down. Along with that, maybe having complementary colored furniture next to each other and giving furniture values like cool, cute, etc that would be used for scoring.

Re: Feature: 10 Things We'd Like To See In Animal Crossing On The Switch

FlameRunnerFast

@rhyeee3216 Start with either New Leaf or the Gamecube version. New Leaf has a lot of features and things to do, but lacks the soul of the original. Due to villagers in New Leaf having very similar nice personalities, vs the ones in Gamecube that could outright insult you. It's refreshing, along with the non-round aesthetic being more pleasant, and the music having a lot of personality to it. Though...the Gamecube one is very archaic too, such as having little to no storage space.

Re: Persona Q2: New Cinema Labyrinth Will Have A Whopping 27 Pieces Of DLC At Launch

FlameRunnerFast

Eh, I would be more mad about this, but in a year or 2 this game will be more than 25% off at several intervals. Then the dlc will exist to entice people to spend more because they already got a good deal. Might not be completely true, but that seems to be the trend. I know several games that do this on purpose to have an artificial big discount, but I think Persona Q2 falls more in line with the gradual discounts group.

Re: Hit 2D Game Shovel Knight... Is Really Hit 3D Game Shovel Knight

FlameRunnerFast

@tendonerd Not exactly, which the video shows. Unlike other games where a few layers may be present at a time, this game is a literal 3D game where the layers are of a different z axis in depth. Not just some value which changes which plane is present. Every layer is present and the video showcases this. You could compare this to Sonic Colors, which locks the camera to a 2D position for the 2D parts despite being a 3D game.

Re: Talking Point: Do We Still Want Achievements On Switch?

FlameRunnerFast

I would want achievements when they do something and don't act as a way of preventing you from feeling like you are missing out on completing a game. I love Cave Story a lot and have played through it multiple times, but 3 hp mode is aggravating. Seeing that achievement on the list makes me sad because I want to show I like the game and it feels like a blunder on my part.

On the other hand Xenoblade Chronicles, aside from some grindy achievements, handles this a lot better. Hardly any achievement feels overly strict to complete and each achievement gives you a set level of exp, ap, and sp. So regardless of a completionist feeling of wanting to get them all, you are actively rewarded for pursuing them! A system like this or giving a reward for getting a majority of them like in Pokemon B2/W2 is what I would consider ideal.

Or make the act of getting the achievement exciting. Seeing the badge otter Phineas in Animal Crossing New Leaf was exciting because you never knew what you were going to get.

Re: Capcom Celebrates 15th Anniversary Of Monster Hunter With Epic Video Feature

FlameRunnerFast

Yeah...you seem delusional to think MH would stay like that, especially for a large scale AAA game compared to the more simplistic mechanics of prior MH games in terms of monster movements and interactions in the environment. I still think that MHGU is a much much better game than MHW, but MHW certainly costs a ton more than MHGU ever did. Otherwise we would have a lot more monsters than we do.

Saying World is cancer when MH would inevitable do DLC is completely stupid and ignorant of today's gaming society. Just look at how much Nintendo is using DLC for pretty much all of their games like Smash. Don't give me this white kinght crap about older MH games.

Re: Review: Aragami: Shadow Edition - What We Do In The Shadows (Is Stab Ninjas)

FlameRunnerFast

For such a short review with only one nitpick listed, the score of 7 out of 10 feels unwarranted. Feels more like an 8 out of 10. These previous two comments are exactly what I feared, that people would look at this one excuse and think the game isn't for them due to the average score. I have a friend that loves this game and he never once mentioned the warping issue to me. If you think you will like it and you like stealth games, get it.

Re: A Hat In Time Is Coming Soon To Switch, According To The Gears For Breakfast Support Page

FlameRunnerFast

To anyone with a decent PC that doesn't need this game portably, do yourself a favor and get it on PC. It's much cheaper during sales and mainly the modding support is very nice. The community has a lot of cool mods, like implementing the FLUDD for Hat Girl, Odyssey's Cappy, entire stages with some cool mechanics, etc. One made a Warioware-like minigame that works pretty well.

Also...come on. Don't bash the devs due to a poor mistake in the past. Times have changed and someone probably got annoyed after being bombarded with several comments such as "when is it coming to the switch? huh?" like a certain Altus US manager was regarding Persona 5. I've played base A Hat in Time to 100% and it's a very good game.

Not sure about how to compares to Yooka-Laylee since I haven't played it, but that game seems kind of barren from footage I've seen and reviews. I still need to play the 2 Banjo games before touching Yooka-Laylee.

Re: Video: New Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Clip Promotes More Fighters, Stages And Fun

FlameRunnerFast

@jtmnm Or you're talking them down for a valid comment. Yes ultimate has a lot if content, but it's much shallower in terms of new content compared to brawl.

@-DG Hmm, a story mode that seems to be a lot of simple player vs ai battles without much difference to a battle rush mode. Spirits seems fine, but it's more so just a challenge mode with stickers. The story and map may be nice, but still seems worse than subspace emissary right now. Where are my unique boss battles like rayquaza?

New characters are nice, but... 12 new characters compared to brawl's 18 and 4's 16 (21 w/ dlc). Also of those music tracks, how many are new remixes? Would it compare to brawl's tons of remixes? And how many new stages are there compared to brawl or 4? Not that many.

Yes ultimate has a lot of content already, but try to be considerate of other's views.

Re: Kirby Star Allies Update Introduces New Dream Friends And Adds Challenge Mode

FlameRunnerFast

@ShadJV At least the True Arena variant in Star Allies (forget the replacement name) is pretty tough. I used Marx's one invisibility move to cheese it...but the remixed final boss was a pain.

Spoilers! In the final boss your friends are turned against you for one attack. You can throw hearts to get them back, but mostly likely you can't afford to take much damage, and 1-2 hits will kill your allies if you don't hurry. Then the area gets flooded, so you can't revive those allies. It makes the fight a lot harder as you have to mostly face him alone, with attacks that does 50% or more of your health.

Re: Sonic Double Pack For Nintendo Switch Listed On Amazon Italy

FlameRunnerFast

@Dalarrun I'd just say try it out and DON'T get the re-releases on Steam, Xbox, or PS. That may be where you are hearing they are glitchy, along with those versions having much worse sound mixing. Get either the Dreamcast or Gamecube version. I've played SA1 and SA2 quite a bit, and I've only encountered a few glitches in all my time playing unless I tried to break the game. Like in Crazy Gadget in SA2 where I purposely skipped an intentional way to get a better time...and fell into a death plane.

You shouldn't run into many glitches at all.

Re: Sonic Double Pack For Nintendo Switch Listed On Amazon Italy

FlameRunnerFast

@Dalarrun If you haven't yet, I'd recommend playing SA1 and SA2. The side characters are fine for the most part, and the main stages are great. Or if you can't stand the other characters, you could rip the gamecube versions, get a 100% save file, and play them on Dolphin.

And yeah I wish they had a mechanic like that as well. It would certainly make the levels easier to deal with. Then just make it a toggable setting for veterans from the start with a screen prompt (not buried in a setting). Other games employ as similar setting like FE's easy mode, so why can't Sonic?

Re: Sonic Double Pack For Nintendo Switch Listed On Amazon Italy

FlameRunnerFast

@IBeAGamer Nah, I quit Sonic 2 because of that. Even in the second act of the green hills clone, going on the first diagonal spring launches you straight into the monkey robot and gives you very little time to react. I think's it's bizarre that people celebrate it for it's design. Sure, after the first time you start to memorize where the enemies and traps are located, but for a new player it's a nightmare. Same for Sonic Generations. I went from playing the stages and dying immediately, to 100%ing the game (aside from a bs online achievement that failed to be recognized). It's too fast for it's own good, along with the stationary jump killing me half the time due to how stiff and limited it is.

If the screen was a third bigger I might play Sonic 2. But not until then. At least in Sonic 3 & Knuckles it wasn't too much of an issue.

On a side note, I still want an improvement to SA1 and SA2's sonic stages. You could easily see things coming 90% of the time the first time, momentum and speed were well balanced, using the spin-dash to get up to high locations was exhilarating, and they felt like an actual 3D games.

Yes the boost formula is a cool spectacle...but let's face it. It's a 2.5 D game with a few limited 3D moments added in, along with all the much worse 2D segments they force on you. Even in the "3D" segments, you are often switching rails in a 2-Dimensional fashion, picking a few side paths from those 2-Dimensional sections, and then doing very few actual 3D sections like drifting around a corner or homing attacking in different directions.

Meanwhile in SA1 and SA2 even linear sections like SA2's grind railing had more 3D aspects to it. Having to balance your position, being able to jump off a rail to another rail 50 feet below like in Final Rush, or going off to do a homing attack on enemies or item boxes. All of this from riding a rail! The only thing bad about SA2's action stages was the lack of additional paths compared to SA1, horrible control scheme (B BUTTON), and hallway design. Why couldn't they have improved on this formula? Instead we got Sonic Heroes, a game with good idea but bad execution, and Sonic O6 which shut down the SA formula from resurfacing again.

Re: Nintendo’s Reggie Fils-Aimé Inspires Students In New York

FlameRunnerFast

Yeah...I don't agree with the people in the comments saying that where you grow up or what opportunities are presented to you can't be overturned with hard work. It can and will, but that doesn't mean hard work into nothing.

Everyone knows there are dead end jobs where only a few make it to the top, and other are ignored. Aim for a position you enjoy in an industry you can succeed in, don't limit yourself! With the internet, this is more true then ever. If you are passionate and dedicated enough, you can learn everything you need to learn online. Yes it may be disjointed, but you can improve yourself. Study hard, get those scholarships due to your high grades, and blast through college. Or go immediately into the workforce and apply yourself.

Saying that you need opportunities to succeed is bs. Some others are more entitled to success than others...but at the same time anyone, even a person without 1 cent to their name, can go to a library or another public place, get on the internet, and learn. In underdeveloped countries I agree with you, but otherwise no. Stop whining and move. If you fail, you're learning. Learn from those mistakes and try again. And if someone tells you that you're a geek or whatever, ignore their immaturity. You'll be more successful than them and that mockery is only a moment in your future.

Re: Surgeon Simulator CPR - You'll Never Look At Hospitals In The Same Way Again

FlameRunnerFast

@tobibra Yeah...after a while I started avoid Dom's reviews. He can review a game how he wants...but I'm not a fan of how he reviews a game. It comes off a very opinionated and not reflective of my views at all.

So from now I just look to see if the reviewer is Dom or not, and avoid the review if it is from him. Wish I could "Ignore" his reviews/articles, but oh well.

It seems like with a few exceptions, he doesn't care that much for anime-art-styled games, or ones similar to them. Often his reviews seems too short and just denotes a basic premise and then his thoughts on the game, like with this one. It should have been at least 3 times the length if it were an overall review and not an opinion piece, which this is currently.

On a side note, I tried looking at his page as a reviewer..but Nintendolife has a glitch where you can't go to the next page of reviews. It just opens the second page of all of their work (news, rumors, etc).

Re: Soapbox: Why I Prefer Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate To World

FlameRunnerFast

Hmm, I feel this article is a bit outdated, if only slightly. My friend that played MHW for the PS4 when it released and now with me and another friend for PC said that the game did significantly increase the difficulty of the monsters. The final boss for example to him was a joke...and then started giving him problems when we fought the boss.

Also regarding: " run around at full speed with your weapon unsheathed", as a Switch Axe user, I'm basically tip-toeing if I try to walk or run unsheathed. So I don't think that's really an issue, unless it only affects Great Sword players. I will agree that the combos and scoutflies were unnecessary. Though on the other hand, World made previously unbearably weak weapons like Bow playable, but made the mistake of making Bow too strong.

And even with their changes, after having already played 300 hours of Generations 3DS, I still got 2 shot by monsters like the Nergigante and had problems with monsters like Diablos, Rathalos, and more. So the game definitely still puts up a challenge. Not as much as Generations yes, but still. I think the main issue is that there aren't that many monsters at all in the game compared to even 3U or 4U.

Re: Switch eShop Sales For Blossom Tales Are Twenty Times Higher Than Steam Sales

FlameRunnerFast

Hmm, I'm sure the game is probably better than I'm thinking, but it just looks like a straight rip off of The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. I say that because this game in this trailer used entirely puzzles or mechanics which are all in 2D Zelda games and didn't seem to have a sense of identity in presentation or artstyle other than a generic pixel look.

As someone that hasn't beat ALTTP and for others that has access to ALTTP, I don't see why you would buy this game. Maybe you want more gameplay like it?

...and I then check the Steam page and the most helpful review reaffirms my worries... pass

Re: Mario & Luigi Developer AlphaDream Recruiting Graphic Designers For Switch And Smartphone Projects

FlameRunnerFast

@Cobalt Ummm, XC2 is a case of where the DLC is worth the purchase. The game itself is complete, and has been getting some QoL updates over several months, most of which are free and improves the experience by a lot. And the DLC gives you essentially another game fully worth $30! You could have picked any other game to crap on, but you pick the one that makes absolutely no sense to crap on. The only thing that sucks for players is a way of better grinding out blade trust (optional), and 1 exclusive blade, among 40-50 blades. For Zelda BotW? Yeah, stuff like the walking tracker, which was already in the game just not unlocked, is dumb to be locked behind DLC. But for XC2 your reasonings are completely unjustified.

Also, the dev team for XC2 was a small team of less than 50. And I got over 90 hours during my first playthrough to the end and have spent 360+ hours alone without the promised DLC expansion story.

Aditionally, atrocious technical issues? What? I’ve had very few glitches in all of my time playing that mostly weren’t an issue. One crash in 360+ hours, some small model clipping during battles that doesn’t affect anything, chain attack ends prematurely once or twice over the thousands of times I have done it. Yes, being locked to 720p on handheld is meh and the areas not loading up textures immediately after a quick fast travel can break your immersion, but I wouldn’t call those atrocious technical issues.
The only thing I can think of are the bugs that they have patched out completely by now, again a team of 50 or less.

Also @maruse

It would be ok for Nintendo to charge online if they had dedicated servers, but that’s the thing. Most of their online services, to my knowledge, are Peer to Peer, which is completely unacceptable in any form for an online paid service. This mean that my friend, who can play online with me fine otherwise if there is a dedicated server, won’t be able to play with me because of his internet. Playing games on Steam like Terraria or Payday 2 are fine, but P2P games like Minecraft? The game starts to mess up and cause him to move back in place every couple of steps. If I can’t play with my friend because of Nintendo charging for a bs online service, then no it’s not worth it. And there is no infrastructure with P2P. If there was middleware/ a dedicated server, the only problem would be the user connecting to that server.

Also Nintendo is still very hesitant themselves to make games fully accessible to the internet and justify a purchase of their service. Why is Kirby Star Allies not online when it could be otherwise and prove to be a good use of the service? WHY is the new Mario Party game limiting online to a handful of minigames? People have been asking for fully online Mario Party since Mario Party 8, more than 10 years ago. They’ve had the ability to do so for a long time ago, and just now they implement it in a trivial way?

Additionally, if FortNite can give players voice chat on the Switch, why didn’t Nintendo do this in the first place? Do they expect me to use Discord or Skype instead of a feature they built into their console? This is ridiculous and should at the very least be changed once their online services come up.
Lastly, don’t care about the NES games since it seems they are local multiplayer only and I have most of them.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend?

FlameRunnerFast

@Sanquine Don't worry about auto-attacking. Just do the first auto-attack, then move slightly to reset the first one. Aside from some blade weapon types, this refills up the arts gauge tremendously. Then go find the 0.4 arts recharge pouch items. This makes it so if you have 2 of them, you'll never have to focus on auto-attacking to build up your arts. Also makes doing a full blade combo with one blade, like Pyra, really easy to do by yourself.

Re: Nintendo's Next Mobile Game Is A JRPG Called Dragalia Lost

FlameRunnerFast

@RichardZ You say that, but then I look up a trailer and see it's also being made with Platinum Games.....

THEN I look up their company products page... https://www.cygames.co.jp/en/

and these games scream low-budget Mobile games. Certainly not up to what people think when they think of a quality Nintendo product. Granblue Fantasy looks impressive mostly likely because of Platinum Games, not the other way around.

This certainly isn't a bad studio, but they don't deserve the praise you are giving them.

Re: New And Improved Left Joy-Con May Be In The Works

FlameRunnerFast

My left joycon specifically won't snap all the way into place. So I have had it accidentally slide off occasionally. But it isn't that much of a bother, so I didn't contact Nintendo about it. Aside from that, I haven't noticed any problems with the joycons, mainly since I don't use them. I just use the Mayflash PS4 USB drive since it has gyroscope support.

Re: Video: Xenoblade Chronicles 2's Combat is More Straightforward Than You Might Think

FlameRunnerFast

@Kevlar44 Aside from XCX, these combat styles are very simple. XCX doesn't explain it well in game, but I love how that game lets you pick many ways to attack an enemy and keep you alive. Hate a certain attack? It might be attached to the enemy's body part, so break it off and stop it entirely.

Wanna one-shot everything? Get the materials you need and then go to town. Wanna debuff an enemy to death, go ahead. And if you want more action...why don't you use a Skell? Combat in the Skell is less varied than ground combat, but a lot quicker. So you could easily use a Phoenix ranged area attack in order to kill a lot of small enemies, or use a super-weapon like a laser to insta-kill the enemy.

So really, I don't know why you are saying XCX is not open-ended in combat.... Heck, if you can't be bothered to find a good play-style, level up Elma until she gets ghost-factory, then enjoy your invincibility frames.

You control how difficult the game is, and I find there is an appeal in getting to difficult areas while avoiding one-shot high level enemies.

Re: Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Makes Top 20 Debut in the UK Charts

FlameRunnerFast

@JaxonH I wouldn't think too much of what he says. I looked at his comments, and he said on the XC2 Digital Foundry page:

" Just like big massive games on PS4. Playing it on a big TV with an audio system (as long as it is family room friendly) is the way to go for XC2.
It looks and sounds amazing!... a few slow downs? sure - but it takes nothing away. Game mechanics have problems but the world is stunning.
Mor Ardain is where you start to see tons of jaggies - and gets a bit ugly and distracting."

and yet here he said previously to that comment

"It is a bit rushed. The map should be in a book of what not to do in a semi open world game."

so it seems he has changed his mind in less than a day to thinking the overworld is good again…

Yeah, I wish people liked XCX more despite it's rushed story. I absolutely love the battle system, where you have a lot of flexibility in the battle options you have, and you decide if you want to go into a fight with being over-powerd or weak.

Hopefully what this guy says is false, which I imagine would be the case. I mean, if he thinks it's that easy, then why doesn't he fight the unique monsters in the field that are at the high 70s? I loved how in XC1, if you were good enough, by lv 50ish you have all the skills you needed to kill an enemy 20 levels above you; in a game where unique enemies only 2 levels above you earlier on would wipe your party.

Re: Review: Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon (3DS)

FlameRunnerFast

Aside from story, what else does this game offer beyond Sun and Moon? Are encounter rates fixed so I can find more than just the starting area pokemon? It's like Zubats in Mt.Moon but times 100!

Also I see The Battle Factory is added, but what other facilities? Does the Post-Game just end like Sun and Moon's did? At least give us something worthwhile to do, like B2&W2's medals or a proper battle facility.

Having most of the legendaries is nice I guess, but I already have a mostly complete pokedex, so what is the point for me? Speaking of which, does the game finally give you a national pokedex?

For all that Sun and Moon did, there were a ton of problems despite it's successes. Unless mainly encounters were fixed, I wouldn't dream of giving US&UM a perfect score...

Re: Feature: Adapting to Day-To-Day Life in Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp

FlameRunnerFast

I played this for a while...and the game is pretty boring. The character interactions I got between the villagers felt lifeless after a while and the introduction of furniture is slow and limited. I'm not sure why you would pay for this rather than just get ACNL. Or heck, if you just want to make housing arrangement, Happy House Designer exists too.

At least in ACNL, you get actual interactions between characters that aren't just giving items to characters, getting items from characters, and one liners that half the time are just tutorials.

Also what happened to the interaction between the players? In this game, you can check out their campsite and vehicle, but other than small favors there is far less than you can do in ACNL.

This game just feels like a slow grinding game with little personality. I've played all 4 main entries (aside from the N64 and e+ varients) and this felt like a step backwards in every regard.

Unless you can't afford it, get New Leaf and skip this mess.

@GrailUK Yeah, overcharge for a freeware game, after a long string of ports, leave games in buggy states (1001 Spikes for Wii U), and made BS reasons as to why Binding of Isaac Rebirth couldn't come to Wii U. Re: Feature: Exploring The "Switch Tax" And Why Nintendo Was Right to Use Game Cards

"Thankfully, Moore’s Law does mean with each coming month the price of microSD cards and related flash media comes tumbling down."

Yeah, despite Moore's Law rapidly declining over time....

Intel choose to keep the name 14 nm die size for their Skylake and Kaby Lake processors for a reason. So no, you can't expect microSD card and other forms of memory to be rapidly decreasing in price.

Especially not after the memory crisis that the PC gaming market is going under.... All Ram is around $20-40 higher than their prices a year ago. So yes the prices will fall, but definitely not as fast as you would expect.

Re: Editorial: The Switch eShop Library is Starting to Look Like the Real Deal

FlameRunnerFast

@Crono1973 And still is. If you want to, download it for free at cavestory.org.

Or, if you are a bit technically inclined, you can get the game running on a bunch of systems other than Windows! Like Mac, Linux, Amiga, Psp, Gp2x, Gp2X Wiz, Xbox, Game Boy Advance, Nintendo DS, Megadrive, RetroArch, TI-nspire, Gamecube, Dreamcast, MotoMAGX, MotoEZX, Dingoo A320, Raspberry Pi, Ritsmix, and AROS. Granted, some of these do have some liberties that were taken to get the games running.

Those Nicalis ports have nothing over the fan-base's dedication to Cave Story over the years!

Re: Nintendo Records Best Q1 Sales Since 2011 in Profitable Start to the Year

FlameRunnerFast

@Agent721 Please do not try to make assumptions on the influence of the DRAM's shortage impact on Nintendo. Industry reporters have reported that Apple’s latest iPhone will increase this shortage for consumers, as they will be taking up a significant amount of the available inventory.
So if Apple can have priority over the amount of DRAM being produced or otherwise already available, why can’t Nintendo have some of that priority as well?
If the demands are as great as they are for the Switch, if we believe Nintendo’s statement, they would not be limited by this factor, as Apple does not appear to be affected, other than possible price differences.

Additionally, SLIGEACH_EIRE always comments like this, so why is now any different? There have been cases of Nintendo's limited production theory that has been recognized by others before, the popular YouTube channel Game Theory comes to mind as a champion of this idea when the Amiibo shortages were in full swing a few years ago. So to say his prediction is not logical, when your statement has a clear logical reach unless otherwise stated by Nintendo, is hypocritical. This isn't to say what SLIGEACH_EIRE said should be trusted, as it has no real source other than a popular unverified theory, but it is still at least a stance that seems logical.

Also, could you and others stop attacking people like SLIGEACH_EIRE as a person? Hating a person’s ideas presented is fine and, in some cases, justified. Yet, hating a person because you believe they are always like this and using this as an excuse to insult their character is inexcusable. Not to mention this hatred is irrelevant to the context of the article and should be stated elsewhere.

Re: UNIOM Wireless Adapter Aims to Make Nintendo Switch Voice Chat Easier

FlameRunnerFast

Instead of the hori solution...you could just do something for free that some people can do immediately, without a dumb application. If you are like me and you have your computer and monitor right next to your switch (though I don't have one, tested with Wii U), you can plug in your switch into any monitor/TV that has an audio output. Then take a common 3.5mm male to male audio cord and plug it into your computer's in-line input near the back motherboard. Your audio is now available through your computer, though you might need to enable it in Control Panel>Sound>Recording for Windows 10 users. Finally, use Skype or Discord and mix your audio as you wish.

Then you only have 1 extra cable. Another solution is to get an HDMI splitter and then an HDMI input to RCA output converter (or one with an audio out), then convert the rest to 3.5 mm and plug it in.

OR, if you want to be cheap, you can make your own HORI solution by connecting a 10k resistor to each audio output (switch audio and voice chat audio), combine them together, and then plug your headset into the end of that connection. However, this would look messy, require you to have the correct audio connectors, and would still use the dumb app.

Re: Review: Splatoon 2 (Switch)

@Highlar " 2 new game modes (I consider the new League games a new mode)" A slight, but valid change.
"upgraded graphics (easily able to see when putting it up against the original game)," barely any significant change

"new weapons, new specials, new maps" yes, so did the original splatoon with the bucket and machinegun-esk weapons

"map rotations are now only every 2 hours instead of 4" Simple UI change

"voice chat and out of game communications (however awkward a system it is)" Yes it is awkward. Also, you can use other means of communicating if you play with friends. So to a lot of people, this is worthless.

" a longer, tighter Hero mode" Which could have easily been added to the original.

"promises of more maps/weapons/etc. DLC to come for a whole YEAR...which like the first game will also be completely free" Yes, like the Original, almost exactly the same.

"Splatfests for at least TWO years" Like the last one.

All of these things could have been added to the original Wii U splatoon if the Wii U was a success and the Switch wasn't out. Nothing here screams significant.

Splatoon 2 isn't a bad game, but saying it should be a 9 or 10 because it does the same things slightly better, is not a cause for praise.

Also, corrolation does not means causation. Comparing this game to CoD is a logical fallocy, as those here on NintendoLife, or fans of Nintendo, as not necessarily fans of CoD. This is not a good excuse to write off other's impressions of the game.

@the8thark Objective reviews do not exist, unless you are listing off statistics without an agenda or specific message meant behind it. "A scientific paper might be written in an objective style, but that doesn’t mean it will have no voice" is what my "Writing: Ten Core Concepts" textbook says, along with every evaluative piece having a bias that needs to be evaluated.

This long quote says a lot about this bias:

"It is important to understand that all sources are biased in
some way. We tend to think of some kinds of source material,
such as encyclopedias and other kinds of reference works, as
objective or neutral. But even a venerable reference such as
the Encyclopedia Britannica can be said to have certain biases.
For example, the kind of information that is considered
appropriate for inclusion in Encyclopedia Britannica reflects a
set of beliefs about what kinds of knowledge or information are
relevant and important for its purposes. Although such a
reference work tries to be compre- hensive, it inevitably
excludes some kinds of information and privileges others. For
instance, extremely technical information about the rhythms of
Hip Hop music might be excluded from an encyclopedia, even
though more general information about that musical form
might be included. The decisions the editors make about what
to include and what to exclude in the encyclopedia represent a
bias, no matter how open-minded the editors might be. Bias,
then, is not necessarily a negative quality in a source, but it is
essential to recognize bias in any source you consult so that
you can evaluate the usefulness of information from that
source. Some kinds of sources are transparent about their
biases."

So therefore, as Alex has his own voice and bias, you can't say he or any other reviewers has an objective review. He will lean towards one way of thinking that others will disagree with.

@dorkeybubblehead Like his reaction to Sonic Forces? The same video which has an overwhelming amount of dislikes as he vented about the game by pointlessly comparing it to 06 and saying Colors and Generations was better, when Forces is more of the same? Experience does not denote a good review, that's a logical fallocy.

I think this game should get an 8 at most, as other reviewers seems to agree. Nothing in the game screams that it couldn't have been an overhaul to the old Splatoon. "If it an broken, don't fix it" doesn't mean you can slightly improve a good game and not be criticized for not doing more. Fans of the older games will like this, newcomers will really like this, but those like me to played Splatoon in the past and got sick of their matchmaking and rotation mechanic won't be incentivized to buy this game. Same applies to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, aside from constant disconnect problems that others have been complaining about.

I don't know if I can trust Alex's opinions, especially when he said he would have given Star Fox Zero a 9 instead of an 8 because of "objective" reasons. Writing can have some objectivity in relation to statistics, but his "objectiveness" doesn't exist. Unless he's telling me my College English Composition textbook is lying to me. Every piece of work has a voice.

Rant aside, this seems like a fine game, but I'm not going to rush out to buy this one. Only if my friends gets it, as playing with randoms is never fun.

Re: Nihon Falcom President Would "Definitely" Like to Release Games on Nintendo Switch

@Equinox Actually, Ys 1 and 2 was on the DS. It was called "Legacy of Ys: Books I & II ", and Ys IV was on the SNES. So yes, they have supported Nintendo in the past. They could change their mind about supporting the Switch, but as these games aren't really appealing to NIntendo fans (at least in the past), I can see why they would be hesitant.

@Shiryu Errr! Try again. Books was released in 2009

Re: It's "A Bit Sad" That Switch Isn't More Powerful, Says THQ Nordic

As I see some are comparing the Switch to a gaming laptop, yes the Switch's parts could have been done with mobile gpus and cpus with a much higher price, not to mention the sound and noise it would produce. Remember this: All that space used in a PS4, XBOX One, etc is mostly just the shell, cooling, Blu-ray reader, and HDD (which could easily be replaced with an NVM-e M.2 SSD that is the size of a stick of gum). If they could somehow cool the device off without a large cooling set-up, they could easily make a higher end switch.

However.....what would justify the price? A gaming laptop isn't just a gaming device...but a switch is. I doubt users would pay at least $600 for a higher grade switch unless some dev decides they would only release it to that system...which would then be pointless.

But, as we see with GPU iterations over time, 4k 60fps is already here for the Nvidia 1080 ti. So assuming the trend continues, that currently $700 gpu will in 2-3 years be $400ish, and then 2-3 years even later, $200-250. By that time Nintendo could have their portable system and still have plenty of power for their games, unless devs finds some way to rapidly increase graphical prowess. Only think I think right now is holding them back is complex shadow calculations you see with the Metro games and Watch Dogs 2 (cuts fps by 2/3rds).

So right now, I think it's pointless to compare the switch to other consoles. The price/worth ratio just isn't worth it.

Re: Kirby’s Blowout Blast Releases in North America on 6th July

@Aerona These are side mini-games that can be completely ignored in the main game. In both Triple Deluxe and Planet Robobot, I ignored the mini-games until after I already beat the game. So no, both games should not be evaluated solely on ignorable mini-games. If you like the main game, then buy it. If you only like the mini-games, buy those instead.
