Re: Animal Crossing: New Horizons Update 1.2.1 Patch Notes - Fixes Some Bugs

@DarkLloyd "there's hardly any story"

I was making an analogy. Basically you're choosing to bypass the actual game to receive the prize at the end. It's like pressing the win button instead of playing. That's perfectly fine. You can do whatever you want.

I was more commenting on the proposal that the mechanics of the game are illegitimate just because it isn't the kind of thing that you personally enjoy. Ideally, there should be different games to cater for everyone's needs.

@DarkLloyd "making things take too long is not how you extend a length of the game."
There totally should be games that are supposed to be enjoyed at a leisurely pace; to be "completed" over a long period of time. There is plenty of other games to play if Animal Crossing not your thing.

Seems like everyone these days just wants to skip to the end cutscene without actually playing through the game.

Clearly their goal is to chip away at all the ways people are exploiting eg tarantula Islands, time travelling . It just seems a little too late now though. The economy is already broken meaning any future items they add will undoubtedly be priced according to the players who made millions way too quickly. Not to mention any hope of some kind of global auction house ever being added.

Ah well. Hopefully they've figured it out for New Horizons 2.

@Kalmaro You make a fair point and I appreciate the civil discussion.

I think what you're saying makes more sense when we're talking about a static product that is released in a state of completion. Games don't really work like that these days. They're ever changing experiences, constantly being tweaked and sometimes metamorphing into something completely different from their inception.

My stance is that it's the developer that gets to take you for that ride. You can hop off anytime but you don't get to chose the route. I'm not saying you can't do what you want with what's on offer. I'm saying if they decide to stop people from abusing their tools in a way that violates their intentions, then that's their perogative.

@Kalmaro People can complain all they want but what I'm protesting is the idea that someone would demand of you to change the colouring book because it doesn't have the drawings they like, thereby impacting the experience of people who bought the book for what it is.

Your analogy misses the point.

Edited to better match your example.

@roy130390 Depends on how much you subscribe to the player's right to dictate how the game should be. I personally think the developer is always entitled to force an experience that aligns most with their artistic vision. The customer's only right is to chose to spend money on the product or not, based on the experience it offers.

This sounds like it's a quick fix to a problem that I've always hoped would be eradicated with New Horizons. Hopefully tighter restrictions are to come that only effect those who are part of the problem.

@Harmonie "I really don't know how you're managing that much on average".

This reply might come a little too late to make a difference, probably. But, what I did was talk to him with my net out, with my inventory cursor already hovering on a bait stack. Then talk to him and run straight down. All the way to the Southern beach. Facing south made a difference. Then press X, A, A, throw rod. Very smooth action. You should be in line with the fish. Only the eels were ever off centre so they killed the momentum.

Rinse and repeat.

The bare minimum was 8 fish each time. Average was 9.

Sorry for the late reply.
