I actually want Nintendo to use smartphones to augment the experience of Wii U games. I'd love to play some trivial grass-cutting mini-game on my phone and then take it home to link to my Wii U to earn rupees in my Zelda save game.
Basically, let me do stuff in the line at the bus stop that I don't want to waste time doing at home.
@DiSTANToblivion "I like my Wii U, no knowledge of how much they make or don't make will change that. Since when did we all become so concerned with numbers and figures? Remember the time when we all just enjoyed playing games and didn't let any of this news become relevant to us gamers? This should be more important to companies etc. Why should we even care if we're are still just having a good time playing games?"
I think these articles are just an invite for the armchair experts to come out in droves. Come get me when there's something interesting on the Internet. Meantime I'm gonna keep on playing my Wii U.
It's great on the Wii U. It would also be great on the PS4/Vita, if they plan on doing that kind of thing. The trick to it is that it only works if the controls are on the screen. Otherwise, it's cumbersome.
@ledreppe "It's not that I'm/We're anti-download, it's just that we all probably want (cheaper) physical copies of SM3DW, so there's no point in choosing the digital vote! "
Oh I totally understand that! But, that's actually why I want the vote removed. Basically people have legitimate reasons for not wanting to get the digital version of retail games; but the vote distorts the data so that we can't see at a glance the actual percentage of people buying each game. Better yet, just make the vote targeted at everyone, digital or otherwise. That way we can all just vote Mario, whichever format we buy it on!
@spinthelights "Did anyone find it a bit offputting that there is an add for another game (Toki Tori 2+) right on the front menu of a paid game? It's like trailers they stick in retail Blu-Rays."
I see your point but whatever Two Tribes needs to do to stay in the Wii U business is fine by me. I want more of their games on my console! Besides, I see it more as a "you like this game, you might also like this other game we did!"
@Gerbwmu "Maybe I'm in the minority, but the Wii U has been far better then I expected."
It's well and truly exceeded my expectations as well. If I hadn't bought my Wii U at the beginning of the year I would have bought a PS4 at launch. My Wii U is more than enough for me.
@AidenPearce "If the wii u has better third party support alongside the amazing exclusives already announced then the wii u will have a great life"
I don't think we can count on 3rd party support getting any better, unfortunately. At best, I see mediocre support for two more years before it drops off to being almost non-existent.
I wish they wouldn't put a "nothing for me" option. It's hard to get an accurate comparison of the popularity of each offering when the DATA is corrupted by the anti-digital brigade. At least make the vote say "Nothing for me but I still buy digital".
@DerpSandwich I'm all for level editors, but as @aaronsullivan said, most user-made content is garbage. There's no reason they couldn't have both a level editor and professionally designed levels as DLC.
@MadAussieBloke Don't forget Master System! When I see these woeful NES releases every week, I just long even more for Penguin Land, Wonderboy in Monsterland or Alex Kidd in Miracle World. Master System plus MiiVerse would be a dream come true for me.
Hopefully by that time I'll have gotten over my Wonderful 101 addiction... seriously, that theme song plays in my head when I'm trying to get to sleep. It's like a Siren's call...
@hcfwesker Yes, I'm not denying the misconception. Every non-gamer I talk to will say the same thing. But, I'm asking you what is it about the console that your friends consider "non grown up". Or, more specifically, what is it about the other consoles that they consider "grown up"? I personally found that I "grew out" of XBox years ago.
Either way, the uniformed audience (dads who buy consoles for their kids) that I know don't know what a Wii U is ("it's a portable?" "It's a controller for the Wii?") but these guys are just people who crack their consoles anyway and just pirate games for their children. The uninformed audience is irrelevant. Consoles need the 12 year olds to thrive - and 12 year olds want Halo nowadays.
I'm still not sure why it's suddenly become an issue whether a console is popular or not. I didn't buy my PS thinking "Boy, I sure hope this console sells well"; I bought it because there were games I wanted to play. Same with the Wii U.
If there's games you want to play then buy the console and let Nintendo worry about marketting and sales figures. If there's not, go on a Nintendo Enthusiast site and complain in the comments. Or grow up. Whichever works for you.
@Cohort Nice! We didn't get the TurboGrafx in Aus so my experience with it is limited to the Wii VC. I remember seeing the screen shots for TurboGrafx games in magazines when I was a kid marvelling at how advanced the graphics were.

@GamerJunkie "Edge came out in 2011"
Hence the word "classic".

@Ren Very good point.

Thank you, Thomas, for such a thoughtful and insightful article. I was supposed to go to bed 10 minutes ago but wanted to finish reading it.

@BossBattles I remember those days!

I couldn't agree more.

I am so addicted to Portuguese chicken! I could eat it every day.
Re: Nintendo Download: 28th November (Europe)
Again... DATA corrupted by the anti-download brigade. Get rid of the "nothing for me" vote, please! ^_^
I've never played the Wii U VC game... sounds interesting!
I wonder if Edge will come to Aus this week...
Re: Video: Nintendo UK Interview Shows Off GamePad Controls in Coaster Crazy Deluxe
@Mrclaycoat "wow this wasn't even on my radar until this video"
The video piqued my interest, but I'm still not comfortable with the price point.

Re: Nintendo Download: 21st November (Europe)
What a great week! Tough choices to make. I'll definitely get Edge while the sale is on but that's just the tip of the iceberg this week.
As @MadAussieBloke would say... Digital 4 Lyfe!
Re: Performance of Batman: Arkham Origins Wii U Version Compares Unfavourably to 360 and PS3

Re: Suda51: "Nintendo Are Always Very Important To Us"
Don't they have a No More Heroes HD pack they can port over?
Re: Nintendo of America Launches Weekly eShop Price Promotions
It's a start but I hope they take the sales even further. I'd love to see those old high score based games (like Wrecking Crew) for under a dollar.
