Update [Thu 23rd Jun, 2022 00:55 BST]: Although Aspyr has plans for a patch update to address this game-breaking bug affecting a small number of KOTOR II players on Switch, it's now shared a temporary workaround.
Here's an official statement along with the required steps if you are stuck:
"We're aware of an issue that is preventing some STAR WARS™: Knights of the Old Republic™ II: The Sith Lords players from advancing in the game. Our data suggests that this is only affecting a small number of users but please rest assured that we're working on a patch to fix it."
Q: The game keeps crashing after the Basilisk cutscene, what can I do to resolve this?
A: If you're encountering this crash, our suggested workaround is to warp past the point where the crash occurs using the cheat menu. Triple click the left thumbstick, open the cheats menu, select warp, and warp to OND504.
Original story [Tue 21st Jun, 2022 02:45 BST]: Aspyr's latest Nintendo Switch release Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II apparently has a bug in it preventing players from completing the game.
In an exchange on social media, a player reveals how they experienced a game crash after the Basilisk Crash cutscene when landing on Onderon, and that there's no way to complete the game in the current state.
Aspyr replied back noting how it was "aware" there's no way to complete the game currently:
"Yes, we are aware and our dev team is working on delivering the patch as soon as possible. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience in the meantime!"
This issue will be addressed in the next patch, but currently, there's no "ETA" on when exactly it will be rolled out to players on Nintendo Switch.

Yeah, that’s inexcusable… without the restored content DLC released, there’s no reason to start a game yet anyway. Also no reason for Aspyr to have released this game early. A shame too because it’s a great game and this will undoubtedly put a bad taste in peoples mouths.
I’m not surprised though, Aspyr has had to patch most of their Star Wars ports and the original KOTOR II was very buggy to begin with.
Once again, they make me glad I'm waiting.
OMG, and here I am getting into the game and everything again and can't finish it like KOTOR. Sigh, Uninstall.
It sucks these ports get released with so many bugs but at least Aspyr seems good about fixing them. The port of the first game is good now.
So what you're telling me is that every review of the Switch version of this game never bothered to play halfway through it.
Nice, thanks for actually fixing this before release.
Yeah, I was already waiting for the DLC before touching this. Weird.
So they released a game, asking $15 for it and they didn't even run it one time to check if it can be completed
Glad, that i held off on getting it. i'll wait for it to be in a complete state.
Once again, it seems to me, like the game company not doing any testing and letting the internet find the bugs for them.
Not even checking if you can finish the game? That is just lazy.
This also proves all the reviews were lies
@shineget64 @dojmin
I bet they played the Game before on PC or other Systems and checked it out on the Switch for a couple of Hours, to see how it plays on it.
If a Game gets portet to multiple Systems at once, it isn't easy to play through it three Times for more than 50 Hours to release a Review.
But on a Website dedicated to a System, it is possible to ask for a full Test for it.
Edit:
Would be pretty nice if they release it in the Future as a double Pack and patched.
I would buy it.
Hmm
I think it will be cheaper for me in the Future to buy a Steam Deck and play the PC Versions instead of buying Switch Ports.
All of Aspyr's Star Wars releases came out with massive bugs at launch - No Invert Look in Jedi Knight 2, Republic Commando had big performance problems, KOTOR had that weird battle text etc.
I do credit them with addressing feedback and fixing these bugs. As unfortunate as it is to have such huge bugs in the first place, they are genuinely receptive and good at fixing problems.
But this one goes beyond those other problems. This is makes it more than a sloppy port - it's clearly just a rush-job cash-grab that went out untested. I really do wish these Star Wars ports were in better hands.
This does also bring up questions about NintendoLife's review process though. Was it played on another system? How much of the game was played? I don't think a game necessarily needs to be completed for it to be reviewed (especially a port like this where the reviewer may have played it before elsewhere) but I think some transparency would help here.
Also, given that the 7 accounted for the bugs that were noticed (and may be fixed in the future), should that be reduced to 0, now that this bug has been discovered and the game cannot be played to completion? I'd recommend a disclaimer at the least, as people may happen upon that review through google searches etc.
@shineget64 as I always suspected. Reviewers don’t complete games. In games I’m very familiar with (some of these (ok all of these) are quite niche) and often the reviewer just don’t cover basic points I’d expect and get caught up in things that really don’t matter. So I rarely trust reviewers these days. This is a perfect point. How did this game get the reviews it did? I think reviewers should try all modes and have a passing interest in the genre.
It makes the mind boggle that we weren’t told to avoid this. How did testers not complete the game?!?!?
@Splodge id say quite a few people trust nintendo life and purchased off the back of their review. Some sort of an apology would go a miss at this point
This is NOT ok. I bought the game Sunday....having watched and enjoyed the review. How can NL possibly review a game that cannot be completed. They should be ashamed. As should Nintendo, but Ill address that with a refund. 5/6 hours of free time utterly wasted.
The irony is that I remember Kotor 2 launching on PC. Unfinished and a buggy mess. And here we are, years later, where Aspyr (whom we should trust to develop a proper Kotor remake) rerelease Kotor 2, without restored content, community fixes and in a worse state than the original PC version?
I was excited about their upcoming release of the Kotor remake. Now? Not toooooooo sure.
This is why I am glad I am too busy with new releases and don't get sucked into these low effort re-releases
I'm glad I'm too busy with the original to care about downloading the sequel quite yet. Apparently the reviews were half assed. I often wondered how much of a game is played before a review is submitted or what the requirements on that are for whoever reviews a game.
I’m sorry, but that’s insane to me. How can you release a game that’s unbeatable in good conscience? Thankfully I didn’t buy this, but it definitely will make me think twice about buying any Aspyr remakes in the future
@Splodge I figured most reviewers don’t finish games before reviewing. And honestly, with how long that would take for some games and with how many games there are, that’s fair. But I am surprised at least one reviewer out there didn’t try to play through the whole thing and discover this first. Not a single one wanted to finish this thing? Lol
@Azuris at least a patch is coming on switch. I bought this game off gog a few months ago, but had to get a refund because it wouldn't go past the character creation. Looked to be a common issue too.
@marklk u must not live in the US? We can't get refunds on games, so consider yourself lucky.
@Truegamer79 at gamespot, it at least says at the bottom of the review how many hours the reviewer played in each review (& how they got the game, usually a code supplied by the developer/publisher).
@Waluigi451 this game you can do in under 30 hours. I’m shocked reviewers didn’t finish it - as it is a gripping story and you’d hope they put someone who likes
A - retro games
B - RPGs
C - Star Wars
Hopefully all three or at least two.
Perhaps they don’t have the right mix of staff. I tick all those boxes and would have completed before submitting a review
@Stocksy
Agreed. Though it looks like it's not going to be addressed at this point. It'll probably get forgotten in all of the other news coming out this month.
Very unfortunate for anyone who wasted money based on the 'review'.
Everybody talking about reviewers not finishing the game, if they got an advance copy it's entirely possible it wasn't broken when they reviewed the game, and a day one patch (1.01) inadvertently broke something since then. Patches break things all the time.
The fact that their solution until a patch is released is to literally open the cheats menu and warp around it is absurd. How did this even get through testing?
Looks like this old republic is in peril.
So funny to see these type of bugs on what...15 year old "new" games.
Just got an email that said this went on sale from $15 to $14.99
Damn. Every time there's a sense of good faith in providing games to the Switch, something goes terribly wrong, and we're talking old hardware running an even older game, so technically there shouldn't be any issues.
It literally says on the article this affect(ed) only a small portion of players. It’s not even known how many or what percentage experience this, and it’s probable reviewers never experienced it at all, play time comments aside. People need to take a chill.
@HeroOfTime32 It says that in the update - that was not in the original article when most of the comments here were posted.
Either way, I think it is fair to ask for transparency on how the game was actually reviewed - if the game was completed, if a retail copy was used etc.
But it honestly seems like damage-control from Aspyr, downplaying the situation. I've looked around online and haven't read of anyone completing the game legitimately without using the cheat menu or other weird workarounds. I hope I'm wrong on that.
@HeroOfTime32 No they absolutely don't.
This is a payed product that does not work on a platform that has next to zero consumer protection in terms of refunds.
Everyone who payed for this product is absolutely entitled to complain about the shoddy work provided.
I can confirm this gets past the Dxun glitch. I have yet to find a way to get past the Dantooine glitch though. Warping won't avoid that crash :/
