I mean the graphics run a lot better, but now the crisper visuals kind of show off the flaws that much more... (easily repeating cliff textures anyone?)
I think the thing I appreciate most about this, is just seeing the Wind Waker's Hyrule Castle in a less "frozen under the sea" state. That stunning white and blue, surrounded by vibrant greens, signs of civilization, and a non-oceanic sky
I think the flaw lies in that some assume that every monarch needs to be a 'warrior baddass' or assume "strong woman" means an extreme level of 'moxie'. And yes, while I do concede its the Mario Universe, one must also understand that Peach's core character is more strong of will, compassionate, and can be inferred to be a decent ruler. She makes speeches, hosts diplomatic gatherings (see the first Paper Mario game for a good example of these), and can on occasion protect herself. She'll take on a mario kart race for sure, but I highly doubt she's going to competitively smirk while doing it. Perhaps I might be too hard on simply an iteration of Peach, which by no means overriding the characterizations I like more, but not every strong female character must be 'feisty, energetic, precocious' in the vein of ones like Penelope Von Sweetz.
Sooooo.... question. If these students, quite literally labeled troublemakers, basically set up a barricaded fortress and began harassing folks nonstop, why haven't hey been expelled yet??? I mean, if a bunch of high schoolers from my area decided to set up junk barricades in a park and (for lack of a more succinct Pokémon equivalent) skipped school to toss stink bombs and shooting water cannons at joggers, guaranteed their school would be be notified and take some action... My suspension of disbelief for a Pokémon game of all things can only go so far.
Nervous about the trailer. While some did like it, and others not so much, I always worry about any new game that is this divisive. If the marketing/developers did their job right, there should be a generally positive/optimistic reception this early on. Many games and series seem to do this alright as there generally is not much in the way of discourse within the community.
Not saying If I liked it or not, just noting its not a good thing to have your next next game divide the fanbase as much as Pokemon does (hence worrying).
Looks good so far! Hopeful so looking forward to it. The more human looking designs (and lots of dialogue) got me wishing there was actual voices though. Not a big thing but with the big change up, this was probably the time to add it to 'cutscenes'...
Still really not feeling it, I think I would have just preferred some expansive FE: Three Houses DLC... (still can't get over the dramatic Dimitri character look departure)
@Friendly 925+ as of returning to get ready for the dlc. What's your hours on ACNH? I say 'Unfinished' as barring the short run up to the kk concert, there's not much beyond that but grinding for collectables. When you do that in less than a month, for a game that's designed to be enjoyed for AT LEAST a year, yes its 'unfinished'.
Honestly? Its a kick in the pants to everyone who bought the game. It was unfinished at launch, received only small updates of MOSTLY previous features for the first few months, and then over a year later one big belch of an 'update' re-adding most of those cut features and going a bit further with some of those new features (FINALLY).
Yes yes there was some 'new' features like terraforming, crafting, and extended house customization. But beyond your initial first months, what else is there? Just grinding collectables?
While I expected Nintendo might go the way of PAID dlc, I did not expect it to be a 'one-off'. How long did Nintendo boast that this game would be supported after launch? How many players (new and old) bought this phenomenon of a game on their Switch?
Only one upgrade to nooks cranny, lackluster villager personalities (still), missing special NPCs, little-to-no 'minigames' to play with friends, and many quality of life features noticeably missing; what little Nintendo has done for this game is reprehensible. November 5th is saying "reason to come back!", but with the looming cloud extinguishing all hope of anything more.
I was a little salty that Harv's shop plaza was just trailer homes but maybe we can upgrade them? I wish there was like an additional building for our home island too...
With the new interior walls and pillars, now we just need more space/rooms for furnishings!
If we can remodel residents housing, can we add more rooms to their homes? I feel that would be nice. I thought I saw inside stairs on one of those DLC home designer islands...
Also the Pelicans no where to be seen sadly...
I was kind of excited about this game, and while I still am interested in it.... Its not going to be a pre-order title for me. Not even day 1 now. The implication for an openworld was there and I was really excited for something like that (was implied at reveal, and the widespread misconception was not cleared up immediately). My concern is if my expectation was blown this early, what else should I be nervous about. I will wait till its released and do my research to see if its something I want to spend my limited funds on (I learned my lesson from the content poor New Horizons!).
Yeaaaahhhh no. I've moved on already, not really interested, won't help me re-arrange my town. Brewster cant even get his own building, still makes me wonder how a dinky little island with 10 residents can warrant a museum with in-house coffee house. Separate business yes, but its really just a museum expansion....
So please run by me again how a name change will help with "regional exclusives"? You can change a name all you want but that doesn't mean you'll have the same merchandise in all regions. Compare Home depot US with Home Depot Canada and the lack of variety in the later is astonishing. Even NETFLIX between countries is very different.
Also a little worried Canadians wont take well to this change (even though its the same company, it might be seen as a case of "USA encroaching on Canadian commerce"). Which is a bit of an issue/bone-of-contention in some parts
Oh wow, didn't see that coming! Like everyone did. By a country mile.
Look, its one thing to be disappointed that Nintendo's promised 'content' has less bite than a toothless chihuahua, but its another thing entirely to say "maybe there will be more features next game!". Just please don't. How many million copies sold for this skimpy product and folks are still expecting something 'better on the horizon'? Way to tell Nintendo that no matter how subpar the entry folks will still defend it.
I half expected there to be reddit, twitter, and facebook riots by this point made up of ticked-off and disillusioned fans of the series! Memes running rampant comparing Nintnedo to Crazy Redd by way of shady ACNH practices! A massacre of the review score of the game a-la review-bombing! Its been almost a year since substantial content on a game that was already bare bones; I've gotten so bored of having nothing to work towards (that's not pack-rat style collecting) I've since stopped playing months ago...
Few months too late Nintendo... Haven't visited my island in months, and new (seasonal) 'content' is not going to win me back. Half of all these teasers they keep giving out about 'future content' (see that bit from NoA's president a few hours after the E3 no-show, and now this message), makes it seem like they are sheepish about not adding anything new, but don't really want to commit resources to doing so (despite how many folks about the game). Either say 'long-awaited', 'substantial', 'adds hours and hours', or even 'big', or maybe stop kidding the players......
Little late for me... Saying they have more content planned is like asking us to wait for dinner to be made, but only serve a cold poptart. Either advertise specifically a main course or admit that only unfilling snacks are on the menu.
A lot of that 33ish million has moved on, and it'll take a minor miracle to bring back more than a fraction of that. Missed the main ACNH boat Nintendo, no amount of paddling in a dingy will allow you to catch up again.
As far as concepts go, this 'trailer' pretty much meets what folks were hoping for in a new/remade Pokemon game. Great concept, decent visuals, open-ish world. 10/10 would buy and pre-order. Nintendo and Game Freak? Arceus is coming, but the ball was clearly dropped with what could've been experimented with for a Remake.
I find it ironic that ACNH actively 'encourages' the player to turn their deserted island into a 'resort-style' location through main gameplay, and the 5-star rating system (see Isabelle complaining about too many trees and seeming too rural), but doesn't possess follow up these demands with infrastructure content befitting this.
A resort town on a island would have more than a single dinky corner store, local seamstress, and the odd peddler or two. For goodness sakes, there's a museum that would put any real world city museum to shame! A 'built-up' town should have more than random furniture thrown about with booths, lounges, and patios.
Even if you don't directly compare the features of the missing games and shout "ITS AN ISLAND, NOT A TOWN", keep in mind simply the volume of content milestones and development goals of any sort is not comparable to other entries in say New Leaf by a longshot (upgrades, community buildings, development of quality villager friendships).
Animal crossing, unlike other games, is not about the hours put in or 'replay value', its about the goals you work toward for however long it takes (enjoying other activities and holidays there too of course!).
To all folks last year who defended this content-poor game last year, I do hope you see that there is NO defending it this year. Your parroting of "they said they will add lots in updates for years!!", with the exception of short and rather insignificant items/events, was based on the premise that NINTENDO (these days) would not take any opportunity to cut corners assuming we will buy whatever they sell regardless of quality.
As it stands, not being able to find (after over a year of playing) a stupid seasonal cherry blossom recipe after grinding/farming balloons for DAYS (like all day, everyday), and then not getting a significant expansion by now has finally gotten me to shutter my ACNH game. A game I played actually every day without fail since launch! I'm done! With no new goals to work towards or spend my millions upon millions of bells (just from casually playing with nothing to buy anymore) on, its been a very boring routine and seasonal recipe panic for too long.
The Super Mario RPG 2 joke just made me very sad.... Like, slight excitement, then just deep depression over wanting a sequel that version of the mushroom Kingdom
Anyone else think that Minish Cap could use the 'prequel treatment'? Seems like every Zelda game has got some long ago legend that's just prime story fodder for a game...
Yeah... Thanks but no thanks. Ran out of substantial content months ago and was hoping for a big blast of new achievements and unlockable to improve my island with. A cake and a few extra design slots (which isn't my cup of tea to begin with) was not on my wishlist. Larger house? Use for the pier? More stores? Literally any island improvement that wasn't some crossover gimmick would have been very well received.
Remember how when the game out, half the fanbase aggressively stood by the 'sure fact' that these updates would give us the missing content that the other games (like new leaf) have? One year out and only a fraction of that back (and not a single quality of life update or new non-traveling shop/upgrade)...
You'd think a game this wildly popular would warrant a lot more 'post-release' content....
I honestly could use some more DLC for this game, doubt its happening but its a nice thought. Maybe (or at least the option of) a unified '5th' route combining the original 4 routes and the ashen wolves DLC into 1 'grand route'?
That's pretty cool of them! A massive opportunity for the company, and helps revitalize a staple of the neighborhood. A bit like creating your own mini theme park for a fraction of the total cost?
I wouldn't mind seeing a prequel to Wind Waker... Though in terms of content it probably would be pretty similar to Age of Calamity (both essentially are massive wars in their distant past leading to what is an apocalyptical event).
Personally I'd love an old school Paper Mario type game as "Paper Zelda"
Quality of life fizes are nice (more storage yay!) but Ive been pretty bored on my island for a while now. Its just a seasonal recipe grind now... What we really need is more storefronts, buildings, and house expansions to waste that massive stockpile of bells we all have got now on the ABD! Y'know cause there's nothing to spend it on after a while...
Just the lack of Gamecube controller support for the game that's driving me nuts, no biggie. Can use it but not the original game controls (or even ground pound for that matter...)
I was fine with most of the controversy surrounding the release (even the graphics), but did anyone else notice they switched the controls for Super Mario Sunshine? Even the ones when you use the game cube controller....
Honestly I have a bit of a soft spot for PM1 on the N64 as it was one of the first games (if not the first) to really make Toad Town seem like a livable place. You got your railway, working postal service, different districts, farming enterprises (lil' oinkers), roads to different towns and settlements, whats basically a low key religion complete with the mario equivalent of sacred sites and guardian deities, hints at an actual government structure, and more. Even regional variants on the classic Toads based on their lifestyle/ environment is a wonderful touch. I do like Thousand Year Door a lot, but it does have some societal gaps that PM1 at least hinted at, if not filled. Both still my favorite games for the Mario franchise.
Playing everyday still, but kinda ran out of content (no time travel)? My island is terraformed, my fossil collection complete/up to date on all bugs and fish, and all out of house/buildings upgrades. Its gotten to the point my bank account is like 5 million bells with nothing to spend it on. To that extent, I have lost my drive when there was nothing to work for until a "later update". By that time I will probably have put down the game permanently.
Conflicted. Not enough to know if its a return to form for the battle system. Are the NPCs going to be like -idk- ACTUAL characters as opposed to copy-paste toads and "assorted npc baddies"? Couldn't tell for sure even after watching it a few times. Cautiously optimistic but hope they do not retcon the great mushroom kingdom world building of the original (like 3d mario seems to do every game) in favor of linear "map stages"....
I kinda want Redd to have his own island (the counterpart to Tom Nooks) which would be more of a seedy and money grubbing version of your island. Complete with rigged casino/lottery overpriced stall stores (of crap stuff) and his usual "fine" art/sculpture store. This island could of course be accessible via Dodo airlines.
Seeing as some folks who play a lot have already reached the end of the current infrastructure content, and those who play casually will sooner rather than later reach that point, I would hope they add more stores and facilities/ facilities upgrades to the island (they probably are, but just stating for the record that an Able Sisters upgrade to match each nooklings one would be a nice touch). Ditto on the crafting in your house pulls from your storage with batch crafting.
In other notes, a "critterpedia" section for other museum collectibles like fossils would be nice
To be fair, while Awakening (and later games) are a departure from the exact old formula, one can't deny the success they've had with these changes (as opposed to the decline pre-Awakening was about to bottom out on). I think it comes down to: would you rather the series be alive to fight another day (with a massively renewed fanbase), or, a series that might just be dead and forgotten in the discount pile of a used game store? Apparently the new Fire Emblem business model works wonders in terms of company capital.
I'm hoping we can do bridges over ravines! Or ones that do not require a river to be directly under them by like half a foot. Altering beaches would be nice as well
Yeah.... keeping my Scorbunny just that. K'now rather than letting him evolve into some insufferable stereotype shonen protagonist.... Grookey's final form looks pretty good though
Gonna be playing Shield later today! Cautiously optimistic, but when posting a review everyone has different expectations for a game. It they're happy with it, then it will be higher and vice versa. If you think its a 9/10, go for it. But if you think its a 2/10, please don't post it as a 5/10 just to prevent people from dismissing any concerns you have about the product....
@Jayofmaya of course not, but it would be nice just for the opportunity to get something from a pokemon center (even if just online without the experience of in-person).

I do like Thousand Year Door a lot, but it does have some societal gaps that PM1 at least hinted at, if not filled. Both still my favorite games for the Mario franchise.
Re: Talking Point: Are You Suffering From Animal Crossing: New Horizons Fatigue?
Playing everyday still, but kinda ran out of content (no time travel)? My island is terraformed, my fossil collection complete/up to date on all bugs and fish, and all out of house/buildings upgrades. Its gotten to the point my bank account is like 5 million bells with nothing to spend it on. To that extent, I have lost my drive when there was nothing to work for until a "later update". By that time I will probably have put down the game permanently.
Re: Gallery: Paper Mario: The Origami King - 20 Gorgeous Screenshots And Box Art Revealed
Re: Feature: Why We Think Crazy Redd Will Bring His Artwork To Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Re: Poll: Animal Crossing: New Horizons - What Would You Like To See Added In An Update?
Seeing as some folks who play a lot have already reached the end of the current infrastructure content, and those who play casually will sooner rather than later reach that point, I would hope they add more stores and facilities/ facilities upgrades to the island (they probably are, but just stating for the record that an Able Sisters upgrade to match each nooklings one would be a nice touch).
Ditto on the crafting in your house pulls from your storage with batch crafting.
In other notes, a "critterpedia" section for other museum collectibles like fossils would be nice
Re: Fire Emblem's Success Has Helped Intelligent Systems Grow In More Ways Than One
Re: Go Hands-On With Animal Crossing: New Horizons For The First Time At PAX East
when the tagline said a "full-scale immersive experience", I almost thought that was related to Nintendo Labo VR or something then then haha
Re: Remodel The Landscape In Animal Crossing: New Horizons To Make Your Own Waterfalls
I'm hoping we can do bridges over ravines! Or ones that do not require a river to be directly under them by like half a foot.
Altering beaches would be nice as well
Re: Reminder: The Fourth Wave Of DLC For Fire Emblem: Three Houses Is Now Available
Playing though it now. Its not bad, but feels kinda like a predictable Fire Emblem 3H fanfic.
Re: Guide: Which Starter Pokémon Should I Choose In Pokémon Sword And Shield? - The Best Gen 8 Starter Pokémon And Evolutions
Yeah.... keeping my Scorbunny just that. K'now rather than letting him evolve into some insufferable stereotype shonen protagonist....
Grookey's final form looks pretty good though
Re: Of Course Pokémon Sword And Shield Is Getting Review-Bombed
Gonna be playing Shield later today! Cautiously optimistic, but when posting a review everyone has different expectations for a game. It they're happy with it, then it will be higher and vice versa. If you think its a 9/10, go for it. But if you think its a 2/10, please don't post it as a 5/10 just to prevent people from dismissing any concerns you have about the product....
Re: Video: Let's Take A Tour Of London's Pop Up Pokémon Center, Shall We?
@Jayofmaya of course not, but it would be nice just for the opportunity to get something from a pokemon center (even if just online without the experience of in-person).
