Life has been far too quiet without our favouritest angry mole yelling at us about resetting our copy of Animal Crossing. Mr Resetti no longer lives in our town, in his underground lair or otherwise, except for the likely possibility that he's the chap running the rescue service (a theory recently proved on Reddit).
In a tweet today, Nintendo revealed some of the new items that will be added to the game with the latest update, including a bunch of stuff to celebrate the "big game" (which appears to be American Football, and not the Premier League final) as well as an adorable Resetti figurine to place on top of a table.
Alongside these free additions, there will also be various items that celebrate New Year's customs around the world, including red envelopes for Chinese New Year (which is on February 12th), and what looks like a Korean bokjumeoni, a small silk bag filled with gifts.
Are you impressed with Animal Crossing's updates, or do you still feel like something's missing? Maybe something pigeon-shaped? Let us know in the comments.

He was my most hated character of the series. I miss him.
YES I miss you Resetti! And also don't....
did you know that he is the Operator when you call Rescue Services?
Who needs the Super Bowl when you've got Blathers?
@RupeeClock To me Celeste is the Superb Owl.
@JugOfVoodoo I wish I can like twice
@Noel360 The article already referenced that
Past AC games gave out the Resetti model for Groundhog Day. That's why it's coming in February.
Fun Fact: Media outlets and non-sponsoring corporations use the phrase "The Big Game" because the NFL gets its panties in a bunch if you use its trademarked official name without permission.
How I miss that cheeky devil. And I HATE his amiibo pose (and by extension that STUPID pose in the screenshot above). What a travesty. I demand an amiibo where he is popping out of the ground IN HIS TRADEMARK RAGE POSE, DAMMIT!!!!
I have criticised New Horizons for keeping their dialogue too "safe", and this has never been more apparent by the bastardisation and subduing of Resetti's distinctive persona over the years. I understand that his purpose has run its course thanks to autosave, but perhaps he could be used to lecture time travelers, and fill in for Isabelle when announcing bug fixes to reprimand the developers for their oversights and poor workmanship. It would be a fun way to incorporate, I guess, "patch notes" into the game proper while letting the developers poke a little fun at themselves (do people self-deprecate in Japan?) It would also help break the monotony of Isabelle's frequent non-announcements.
@JugOfVoodoo what time is it? That's right! It's time for the Large Sport™!
If only they gave us the rescue center in the base game, so that you could see Resetti, like how Cityfolk let you into the Reset Center occasionally.
Tom Brady Please lose.
That bellend was the reason I stopped playing the first game.
adjusts glasses
Uh, akthually, he appears in the failed internet connection message for online play. I'd reccomend deleting this article before I tell my community of hackers to do it for you

@PBandSmelly
Unironically this dude probably taught everyone the importance of saving so you wouldn't lose your precious progress, including that of other games!
Though probably not that big of an issue these days with all the autosaving and/or asking to save after every section or so anyway, depending on the game.
Pigeon-shaped hole in the update? Try pigeon-shaped, poodle-shaped, turtle-shaped, and pelican-shaped....
@Silly_G I was thinking it would be awesome if they had different characters doing the announcements every year. Like when year 2 (from release date) starts at the end of March Phyllis and Pelly or someone took over, then in year 3 Zipper might do the announcements and so on. Tom Nook could hire them.
I find Isabelle's dialogue very boring and always have. I don't know why she's so popular.
Unfortunately I haven't booted up any Animal Crossing New Horizons with any regularity in a few months. There just hasn't been enough to entice me back yet.
@Silly_G
"but perhaps he could be used to lecture time travelers"
Hah !
I don't care to be called Time Traveler.
If Resetti start to nag at me for time travelling, i will seal his mouth with Akuryo Taisan.
@Anti-Matter In the first Animal Crossing he would DELETE YOUR FACE if you reset too many times. Don't mess with him!
@Clyde_Radcliffe
And that's why i don't play Old Animal Crossing.
Too primitive, the animals are really rude in using language compared with newer games.
@Anti-Matter It made it funnier for me. The animals had a wider range of moods and you really had to WORK to earn their friendship and see the nicer side to them, especially the cranky animals and snootys.
@Anti-Matter
I also have to agree with @Clyde_Radcliffe that having the animals more rude and blunt made it more funny for me as well. (At least, it became more funny a few years after I became a fan of the series). 🤔
EDIT:
@Clyde_Radcliffe
Man, Resetti, and the rest of the villagers were so savage at times in the older games. 🤔
EDIT 2:

You guys just opened a can of worms that might not look so nice.
Just to name a few things that are missing from New Horizons:
Characters: Rover (outside of May Day event), Blanca, Pelly, Phyllis, Pete, Joan, Porter, Booker & Copper, Kapp'n, Tortimer, Katrina, Brewster, and others I can't think of at the moment
Features: Gyroids, Brewster's Cafe, Hair Salon (Although the customizable hair options do explain this removal), Kapp'ns' Island, and I can probably go on.
In case you're wondering, yes I had to look some of this up, as I don't remember all the characters, and features they REMOVED in New Horizons.
Here are the videos I used to do my research. (These videos are definitely outdated, but it still gives you an idea of what was missing, or what still is missing.
Sorry for making this such a long post everyone, I just am annoyed with much content is missing from New Horizons. 🤔
#BringBackResetti He deserves a place in New Horizons!
I visited my old Animal Crossing town on the Gamecube today and built a (perfect) snowman.
So many things I forgot that were already in this very early game of the series. And I have been insulted by one of the villagers right away
And met Blanca on the train to the city on my second memory card. I miss her in New Horizons...
What a great game
@KateGray I've had this official poster of Mr. Resetti hanging on my wall since March 27th. That should count as much "in game" as a faux amiibo. 😉

@SM3DASislit
The best part is when they announced Mario items about half a year in advance as If this was mammoth task no AC game has done before.
@SalvorHardin And what kills me is that.. fans are praising that, as if it's something big and new, when it's not. It's been in the base game of every animal crossing except for this one, since the developers wanted to make this a half-baked live service, without putting any thought into what a good live service needs to exist. Instead of making new content, and releasing a full game at launch, they just stripped out all the content of the game, and are trickling it down to us over the course of 3+ years. It's messed up.
This was never a theory...it was blatantly obvious from the beginning? It has him on the icon of the app
@Goat_FromBOTW
I don't buy Animal Crossing for Conversations 101, Yada yada yada, etc.
That's very lame.
I bought Animal Crossing New Leaf and New Horizons for playing like The Sims, decorating the island and keep the favorite villagers forever.
I'm really happy Resetti is not featured in ACNH as Active villager as i will seal his mouth if he start to yell or nag at me.
Just shut up and let me do whatever i want, none of his business to disturb my gameplay style.
He was already in the game. You probably just haven't used his feature yet. He's the one who piolets the helicopter if you call for the rescue service. If you need extra proof, the theme used by the rescue service is a remix of Resetti's theme. Why is he not underground popping up to berate you for reseting the game? Well, things like the autosave feature make it harder for the player to reset, and perhaps a bit of a nudge from the Japanese government twisted Nintendo's hand into downplaying on the harshness of Resetti. The government intervention is also why the Reset Center was an optional public works project in New Leaf.
@Anti-Matter I mean, you may not care about the villagers, but a lot of people do. Not to mention, in general, this game lacks in a lot of things, so if you aren't someone who's good at designing stuff, and wanted more than an experience based around designing your town, you're out of luck. Animal Crossing used to cater to every type of player, but New Horizons caters to the creative, and no one else.
@VoidofLight
Old Animal Crossing before New Leaf was really primitive for me.
The idea of got triggering by long train running conversations, got yelled by Resetti for quiting without saving, rude language, villager's moving out without my acknowledge are very lame ideas for me. Not interesting at all. And that's why i don't play Old Animal Crossing games.
I'm glad i can outsmart the game started from New Leaf and New Horizons so i can take control the time and keep my freedom to play oftenly or not, to quit without saving or not, it depend on my decision and the games shouldn't complain and punish me for not playing them occasionally.
@Anti-Matter Most people enjoyed the past games due to the charm, and due to the feeling that those games had. The little secrets included in them and such. The charm of the game series as a whole relies on the real time clock, with Time Traveling technically being an exploit rather than a feature, in which there's no real penalty for. Technically, you have the freedom to change the clock in every single game, with New Horizons making it to where you'd need to change your system clock. Not to mention, Resetti was put in the games originally to teach people not to Reset, or to teach them to not forget to save. Albeit, it gets annoying if your clear intention was to reset over something, or if your battery went out, but at the same time, most people wouldn't want to quit without saving, since it renders your playtime useless.
Part of the charm of animal crossing itself is the villagers. If you don't like them, you could just simply ignore them, but then that'd be cutting most of the gameplay out of the game itself. It's a shame too, since the villagers were well written back in the original three games. They weren't always nice to your face, and they always had interesting things to say, without repeating the same thing over and over, which kept a lot of people engaged and wanting to talk to the villagers over and over again. They even had events where you could buy furniture off the villagers, or have them come to your house. (It's kind of odd how they cut down on the villagers this time around, since it's the main focus of the games. One of the main draws.)
In New Horizons, they cut down the dialogue, and made it completely bland. They used modern day lingo, which dates the game (something you don't want to do with an animal crossing game, as they're meant to be timeless), and basically stripped away all personality of the villagers. In New Horizons, after about a month of playing I just.. stopping talking to my villagers entirely. I heard every line they had, and they were just not that interesting to talk with. They rarely give you tasks anymore, and always just bring up the same things over and over again.
As someone who plays mostly for the experience, and less for building a town (mainly since if I wanted to do that, I could play the sims or any city building game), the way they toned down the characters in this game really disappoints me. I don't normally have anything against people who time travel, unless they actually spoil the game for others, but I do think that if you don't enjoy talking to villagers, or the real time clock.. maybe this game isn't really for you? Especially since that's the main charm of this game series.
@VoidofLight
i don't see any charm from Old Animal Crossing games. It felt very primitive way to play video games.
I don't mind if the villagers have limited dialogues in ACNH as long i can keep them forever without losing them if i don't play the game very long time. I don't really expect dialogues change from every villagers as i play ACNH not for expecting new dialogues every day, i don't even mind if they keep repeating same dialogues like The Sims. The main reason i played New Leaf and New Horizons are for building aspect, aesthetic aspect and keep the favorite villagers forever, not for reading conversations 101 and long train running dialogues. I'm glad in ACNH there is no more unnecessary questions just for changing my hair color or hair styles / determining my initial looks. Enough with the chit chat, just straight to the point.
About warning for not saving, there is a reason i did it intentionally because i really want to prevent wrong choice from villagers who want to move out. If i reset the mistake, i have another chance to keep the villagers or kick out villagers based on my answer just like my plans. I don't mind if i lost my little progress as long i can take control directly with their fate. I decided their fates, not i accept their decision without my permit.
@Anti-Matter But that's part of the charm. The fact that villagers did eventually move out of your town, causing you to feel sad when they did. It was because of those connections that caused people to feel sad, and those connections are formed from the dialogue. New Leaf had the perfect system, where in which villagers still moved out, but were never truly gone. They still had interesting dialogue to get you attached to them as well. The villagers who did move out would randomly come to Mainstreet, to visit the town and shop around. There, you could still talk with them and see them, even if they did end up moving out. It also gave you a reason to keep playing the game daily as well, as you'd want to try hard to keep the characters in your town. The villagers leaving was also used as a big consequence in past games. Wanted to keep someone in your town? You have to make sure you're playing often and talking to them often. But.. in New Horizons, another reason why I wasn't engaged with talking to my villagers, was because I knew they couldn't leave unless I told them to do so. Making it to where I could just quit playing the game, and come back years later if I wanted to, not having to actually face any consequences for that.
@VoidofLight
One thing i have studied from ACNL, i can keep the villagers stay forever and will not moving out by themself even i don't play ACNL for very long time.
Here is the trick.
After you find out the villager who want to move out, say No and immediately Save the game after you finished with the game. Once you saved the game, you can leave ACNL and going hiatus without losing any villagers. I have tested that trick and it worked. 😀
I don't like the idea to force the player keep playing Animal Crossing daily or the villagers will moving out because sometimes i'm not in the mood to play Animal Crossing or i want to play other games so i don't want to get punished by losing my villagers if i don't play Animal Crossing. I should take control the game, not the game take control my daily life with punishment for not playing the game.
Maybe i played animal Crossing with a different objective. I don't consider my villagers as someone who have to talk daily. I consider them as a pet, they should listen to my words and stay forever if i like them.
@JugOfVoodoo Yah I think it is for groundhog day I wish they still had standees for those small holidays and standees just on their own again for your own custom design.
@SM3DASislit Yes ! There are loads missing like ordinances and changing the design of town hall and train station ect. Characters like Katie and shrunk, and the food that you could actually eat like the lucky roll, cakes, ice cream different flavours and scoop amount.
The perfect fruits, and tropical fruits from kappns island where you could meet players internationally from your own region just you and your friends with exclusive items with their own currency (medals) doing minigames.
Villager interactions like getting signatures for them scheduling play dates to go to their house and to go to yours with a chance of getting some of their furniture or if you looked through their wardrobes ect you could find an item. The games from the gc ac with actual games in them kinda reintroduced in nl with the 3ds and wii mini games and in the gc those little events like morning aerobics and sports fairs and that shopping card and so much more I could keep going on, I hope they can add or improve those features and add the special characters in some way specially Brewster and working for him maybe make coffee from coffee beans from when he gives you those after working for him.
This was really long sorry.
@SalvorHardin
I think the reason they took that approach for the Mario items was that they wanted to share what they were doing for Mario's 35th anniversary, otherwise it probably would just have been the usual New Horizons update trailer. 🤔
@VoidofLight
The fact that they stripped (what seems like) half the content, and then trickle it and advertise it as "new content" really bugs me. When I realized that they were doing the live-service approach, I expected it to be like Splatoon, where we got actual new content, and not stripped out content put back in, in a year (or 3). I honestly think that when they delayed the game, they took some of the content out, rather than polishing what they had.
@Goat_FromBOTW
Yeah, I was hoping that they were going to continue bringing back features, as well as the holidays, but that hasn't happened since the July updates. I also don't really want to decorate my island either. I was also really excited for New Horizons as well, since I am a big Animal Crossing fan. I think the reason why they focused more on the customization is that they seemed to want to bring new players (which I totally get), but I feel like they focused on that so much that it kind of alienated the veteran base of Animal Crossing. I feel like that previous Animal Crossing games have tried to bring more of the veterans back in, but New Horizons seemed to be trying to do the opposite. (If that makes any sense at all). 🤔
Your HHD to New Leaf percent ratio would explain why I haven't been nearly in New Horizons as I have been in previous games.
@StarrieMoonlight
There definitely is a lot missing from New Horizons. I feel that the part of the spirit of the previous Animal Crossing games is nowhere near as present as the other games, because so much content is missing. 🤔😔
