Re: Nintendo Download: 13th April (North America)

ECMIM

@JHDK I'm sitting on:

*Zelda
*Fast RMX
*ACA Alpha Mission 2
*ACA Metal Slug
*ACA Metal Slug 3
*ACA Nam 1975
*ACA Neo Turf Masters
*ACA Shock Troopers
*Graceful Explosion Machine
*Has-Been Heroes<--fav game on HW, Zelda notwithstanding.
*Snake Pass
*New Frontier Days
*Blaster Master Zero

I'll pick up Mr.Shifty and maybe SSIV today--good times!

(My PS4Pro, 3DS, etc. are dying of neglect.)

Re: Review: Snake Pass (Switch eShop)

ECMIM

@Pahvi it's not in yet, but Sumo has said they are adding it.

@uhhhhhhhh how strange: I find it unbearable to look at docked--the upscaling from whatever res it's running at is brutal on a 4k display. It's very fuzzy and low-res-looking, a problem that isn't an issue with other 720p-ish Switch games. I find it vastly better un-docked, but perhaps that's just because it look so bloody fuzzy on my set.

Re: Here's Why Speedrunners Prefer The Wii U Version Of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

ECMIM

@NEStalgia "It doesn't really add anything, and I don't think Americans that have played Zelda for 30 years (and lets face it, nobody in Britain seemed to have cared about Nintendo most of those years in numbers that count) ever imagined the princess sounding British even once."

Yeah, I would agree that I was a little surprised she speaks in a (very vaguely) British accent, considering the precedent set by Captain N and the Zelda animated series.

(Granted, 95% of the people here probably weren't alive when these shows aired.)

Re: Metal Slug Is Coming To The Nintendo Switch eShop his Week

ECMIM

@neufel it's probably the second-best* game in the series, behind 3--In a nutshell, it's a simpler, cleaner, more pure affair, but still worth every penny.

*That said, a minority of NeoGeo fans would tell you it's better than 3 (and a few would say X is the best). I am not one of those people, but it is still worth every penny if you're a fan of run 'n' guns.

Re: Developer Survey Reveals Worrying Lack Of Interest In Nintendo Switch

ECMIM

It's almost like everyone forgets it took the PS4 well over 12-months to even begin to get anywhere with games--until then, it was lots of remasters and Bloodborne, basically (hell, the only retail game I owned for the first 18-months of its release was BB).

And it's the same reason why the Switch will take time to get rolling: third parties are going to take a wait and see to make sure it actually firmly takes off--if it does, the games will come in a torrent (just like PS4), which makes the remainder of this year critical for its success.

That said, it's probably a given that we'll see lots of Japanese games, a la 3DS on it, which, for someone like me, is really all I care about...though I understand this isn't good enough for most others.

Re: Here's Why Nintendo Switch Games Cost More Than Those For Other Consoles

ECMIM

@gatorboi352 yes, supply and demand (read: econ 101) is now a tinfoil hat conspiracy...ye gods...you better loosen yours before it cuts off what little blood flow is still getting to your brain.

(Note: I'm not saying it's this, but suggesting someone charging what the market will bear rates as tinfoil hattery versus cost of goods is laughably deranged.)

Re: Don't Buy Another Switch Dock Just Yet

ECMIM

@PlywoodStick nah, I've done this a thousand times on a variety of projects* with no issues--low intensity and just take it slow and steady.

(Soldering, well, of course, that's much, much too hot to apply to plastic.)

*Including removing the 'lens' cover on a 3DS w/ no ill effects.

Re: Don't Buy Another Switch Dock Just Yet

ECMIM

Mine isn't actually that tight, but there is, I would imagine, a fairly easy fix: grab a heat gun and simply put some pressure on the plastic.

Barring that, it might even be possible to simply shove a shim in there and, given a day or so, the force might be sufficient to bend it just enough so that it isn't nearly as snug.

(Yes, I know, this is something that shouldn't have happened, but it's a painfully easy DIY fix.)

Re: Review: Super Bomberman R (Switch)

ECMIM

@MadAdam81 good to know. I'm something of a bomber god (have spent over 1000-hours, in my life, playing various Bomberman games, primarily Super Bomberman 2 which was something of a college sport in my day) but between this and the frame rate, this game screams unfinished.

Re: Rayman Creator Discusses Legends: Definitive Edition for Switch

ECMIM

@mateq I will concur that I also had the single worst customer service experience of my life w/ Ninendo, bar none. It was really disheartening and eye-opening at the same time--their goal seemed to be not so much to remedy the situation, but to put sufficient roadblocks in my path to make me give up.

Once i got the Better Business Bureau involved, however, they finally cried "uncle", albeit months later.

Re: Hackers Apparently Add Additional Games to NES Mini

ECMIM

@FrankJaeger I empathize, but the problem is that there is a very fine line between "tinkering" and "theft", and it almost inevitably leads to the latter, as the vast majority are not interested in the tinkering end (like you and me) but are very much interested in the theft end--understanding that POV isn't really that mystifying, is it?

(You do, however, make a good point that if NL is going to cover these things, playing coy about using ROMs is a little sketchy.)

Re: Super Mario Run Is Now Live On The iOS App Store

ECMIM

@iGen this bull**** about Americans grows wearisome beyond measure, and it's a pretty common thing to see around NL, sadly, and is never slapped down by the folks running the site.

So, in lieu of that, take your simple-minded, parochial, bigotry and shove it up your ****.

(Because we know Americans have a monopoly on a sense of entitlement, etc., right?)

Re: NES Classic Mini Demand "Greater Than We Anticipated," Admits Reggie Fils-Aime

ECMIM

@holygeez03 it is not, nor has it ever been, a failure to anticipate demand. Nintendo is a hyper-conservative co.* and will almost always attempt to just meet demand--sometimes they miss, and sometimes they don't, just like any other co.--it's just that most of the people on this site pay no attention to any industry other than gaming, so they don't see this playing out in countless different sectors where 'very smart' corps badly underestimate (or overestimate, as the case may be) demand.

*It's one of the key reasons they've been in business for well over a century.
