Earlier this week Sumo Digital confirmed that it had an update on the way to improve the rumble for Snake Pass on Nintendo Switch. It was described by one member of our team as resembling the over-the-top vibrations of The Wonderful 101 on the GamePad, so it was evidently pretty fierce.
In any case an update slithered out today and our video man Alex has described the rumble as having undergone "a big improvement". With Snake Pass having been ported to Switch so quickly little hiccups were expected, but performance has otherwise been impressive and credit should be given for a rapid turnaround on that fix. If you want an idea of how the game shapes up on Switch, we posted a video earlier this week.
Have any of you tried Snake Pass on Switch yet, or is it on your wishlist?

I have Snake Pass on Switch, and when I started playing it this morning, I didn't think the rumble was bad or too harsh at all. I'll try it again here shortly to see if there is a difference post update
I REALLY want this game. Unfortunately, it'll have to wait a while until it either goes on sale or I get my credit cards whittled down a bit.
I will get this when I'm not completed addicted to a certain other game.
Im buying it in April because spending 500+ bucks on video games in a single month is a little over kill.
My bank account is crying.
Played it for 3 hours straight last night! Once you get past the controls which have a slight learning curve, it's highly addictive trying to 100% a level of all the collectibles!
Getting this as soon as I can. Still recovering from the launch costs right now, so it will have to wait a bit.
Great game. 100% each is hard as nails. Rumble feels much better now too!!
These ssssssssssssnake punsssssss are getting out of hand
That was....actually incredibly fast.
Remember Valve saying they hate ecosystems like this due to long turnarounds on updates? Wah wah waaaaah.
That was a very quick update! Kudos to the devs!
Snake, rattle and roll.
I have problems with same camera angles and how the snake does its "turns" around poles. Worst is when he starts to going to turn back itself and fall down inmediatelly
Good thing.. I thought my hands were about to come of when I played snakey the first time
The game is on my impulse buy list. I gotta pay down some other expenses first though.
Bought today and...Omg this game is perfect for the Switch. Such a pick up and play anywhere game! Highly recommended.
I'm a little concerned about the length of the game. After completing the first level with only 2/5 gold tokens, I'm already 7% complete! That can't be right, surely...
Besides 1 2 Switch, what other games feature the HD Rumble?
Anyone have any idea what the other changes were in the patch? On their Twitter feed they say it fixed rumble and other issues, but there are no patch notes.
The Switch game library is quickly increasing (I know this game is on other platforms, but Switch has portability). Hope to see more indie titles make their way quickly (looking at you Rocket League).
@Sean161 HD rumble is a gimmick but a good one. The best way to notice the difference between regular rumble and HD rumble is to play Zelda first then play FAST afterwards. Zelda doesn't use HD rumble. In FAST the rumble is more intense and more location specific
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I've been waiting for years for a remake...
I wondered if that had come out today. Last night I was playing it in bed with the sound muted, and the sound of the buzzing and vibrating woke my wife. Playing after work today it seems way toned back. Doesn't seem to be anyway to check the current version on the Switch though.
@BraveSonic If you want more Nindies – and who doesn't, right? – there's a petition going on for a Switch port of Death Road to Canada. Details are on developer, RocketCat's Twitter feed (@rocketcatgames).
Wouldn't it be nice if they released a game that didn't need to be patched to be playable.
Very fun game. $20 Seems a bit much but it was well worth it for me.
Two Things I Would Fix Though:
1.) Give us camera sensitivity options. It moves so darn slow.
2.) Let us restart from the last checkpoint instead of just the whole level. I got my snake stuck about halfway through the level and had to completely reset which was a little disheartening.
@GameOtaku This game was perfectly "playable" before the patch. They just toned down the rumble. Nothing more.
@thesilverbrick
My point still stands. A new game needs to be patched. Why? Just complete the game first then release it, not just a half baked effort.
@GameOtaku Most games don't require a day one patch. It's just that bad cases tend to stick out more.
Besides, making games is hard. I've tried. There's a lot of things that might be overlooked and slip by unnoticed. Maybe the rumble wasn't so bad on their dev kits? Maybe it was fine in a build just before release, but some line of code was changed and it affected unexpected things?
The important thing is that it was fixed, and fast at that.
Got the game today and didn't notice any problems. I figured it was just the internet overreacting again, but I guess the issue was already fixed.
@Moshugan I could see if it was a physical release needing a patch. But this is digital only, so I think it's okay, especially since it enhances the experience. On top of that, they managed to get it out the same day as other platforms, which I'm sure was no easy feat.
Glad they fixed the minor issue so quickly, either way!
@Sean161 @Sean161 FAST RMX vibrates harder on whichever side of your car hits a wall. I've noticed that. Also the speed boosts have an interesting feel to their vibrations. In snipperclips, there is a button to "cut" the other player and the HD rumble makes it vibrate the same way a pair of scissors would when you cut.
It's a subtle but effective gimmick that really makes gaming more fun with the Switch.
@Ryu_Niiyama Pretty sure when you put a game on a list to get later, it stops being an "impulse buy."
@ieatdragonz Me too. I've got Binding of Isaac coming, and that's going to have to be it for a month or so. I hope I can resist the temptation, because this game looks like so much fun.
Can someone tell me then how Dynamic the HD Rumble is in this game? Is it on a 1, 2, switch level? I'm just really eager to see more of what HD Rumble can do.
@Ralizah yeah but I randomly splash a ton of cash on games on impulse. I just use a list to guide me. This game isn't my cup of tea but it is interesting enough that if I go on a 500 dollar gaming binge (...which happens way more than it should) it will be in the short list to buy. I've gotten a few gems that way.
The control scheme is so terrible in this game. I want to love it but I really can't.
Noodle moves sooooo sloooooowly and having to wrap yourself around things to move in space is a real drag.
@Rexx The control scheme is different from what you are used to so that makes it tough but also interesting. So many games out there use the same basic control scheme. It makes them easier to dive into, but it's also kind of boring.
Wish list. Buying tomorrow fo sho.
OMG. Snake Pass looks so good. Not sure if it's Alex having so much fun, but it does look really good. I got to get it. I just finished Zelda 100% yesterday, so I guess I got this to play now. Going to have so much fun being a Snake.
Originally thought it was some pretty average and not totally fantastic game you typically see appearing on the eShop. I am totally wrong about that.
EDIT: Game is 4GB, that is a lot. If it was any other console, I would buy it. But for the Switch, it's too high for me to download. I wouldn't mind downloading anything that's 1.5GB or less for any game. Ill have to wait until I get micro SD card, which I don't know if I really need it.
Part of me doesn't want the update because the over the top rumble actually feels pretty good, especially when you respawn after dying.
@invictus4000 As far as I can tell it doesn't use HD rumble at all. When it rumbles, it's not directional or dynamic. I don't think they did anything beyond what the rumble is like on ps4
@Zeargo correct me if I am wrong since I haven't had this issue...but can't you just get the game and later delete it off the switch memory and redownload it onto sd card, and game save data stats with the switch memory? So no loss of game saves and you can play game today.
@pigwarts5ever
There are checkpoints...
I want to be interested in this game, but I just can't bring my myself to get it. Waiting for a sale or something. Nice to hear others like it though. As for patching games, PCS have been forever. Consoles are just PC-lites now so who cares? Atleast devs fix the issue. The only complaint we should have it we all have to pay for huge hard drives to pay for their mistakes. This is also why I wait til PS3/4 games go on sale a year after release to play them. Plenty of time to fix issues.
@Donutman I guess I could do that. Although it will be annoying to download the 4GB twice. Do you know if you can move the game onto the microSD card like you can with the Hard Drive on the Wii U?
Edit: Thanks @BenAV
@Zeargo I got a microSD a couple of weeks after launch and was surprised to find that I couldn't move my download games over from the system memory. Photos you can but not games.
I had to uninstall and redownload them all. Pretty easy process so I didn't mind but it's something to be wary of if you only have so much data.
@GameOtaku Video games have had bugs and glitches since they were invented. Difference is, in years past, patches weren't possible and buggy games lasted forever. At least now they have a chance to correct mistakes. And all things considered, the rumble issues with this game were very, very minor and not really worth complaining about.
@roboshort
I really tried to tough it out with this one though, but Noodle feels really heavy and slow, and moving his head up and down is a drag. I appreciate that it's a new approach to a control scheme but I'm not certain the experiment really worked.
I'm also not a fan of the collectables as a means to an end. Think the presentation is great though, it look nice, the characters are cute, and the music is wonderful, but it feels a bit dashed.
@BenAV Just curious as to why you wanted to move your existing games over to the SD card? Any new downloads would go there so memory on the system shouldn't be a problem. Also, games will load a bit faster from the internal storage on the Switch versus the SD card.
@uhhhhhhhh I know. I am saying that I literally got stuck in the level (I couldn't move my snake) and I wanted to restart from the last checkpoint. However, the only option was to restart the whole level.
@Amsterdamsters Mostly it'd just annoy me not having them all in one place.
@BenAV I'm super anal about, well everything. With the Switch though, you'll never really even know that they're not in the same place. The only way to know is to go into settings, data management, manage software and under the game title it shows it's size and where it's located. From the home screen, you'd never know.
@Amsterdamsters Yeah I'm aware you can't tell the difference unless you actually go into the settings and look, but just knowing that they're not in the same place would annoy me regardless.
Nice to see it was fixed so quickly.
Have not tried it yet, however it is number 2 on my games list to pick up. Originally was not even on my radar but between Twitter, this site and Gamespot very interested in it
