yeah I'm stuck wondering if I'll get my moneys worth out of it. I dont care for online with random people and I'm worried ill probably end up bouncing around some tracks on single player, doing some city trials and then get bored. I could see it being great fun with some friends but I think this is way too hectic for my partner to play with me.
No disrespect to anyone but the pool of American English voice acting seems very small and stale. If you play any amount of Asian import games you start hearing the same voices over and over.
I can switch to a new game and immedeatly clock the same voices from the last game I played often delivering a similar if not exact same performance because I guess a lot of these VA's get type cast.
One of the best desicions Xenoblade Chronicles did was use a different British cast for their voice over and it was such a breath of fresh air that made it stand out to me. Final Fantasy Tactics also has an outstanding english VA.
I expect I'll be hearing many of these yet again when Fire Emblem comes out next year.
I want to say yes but it would likely mean for the English dub we'd get the same 10 American voice actors who appear to star in every Asian import video game.
It's not even that they are bad but if you play a lot of games from the Far East you hear them all the time. Ah yes here's the 'Smooth confident woman' voice actor and then the guy who always voices middle aged men.
Xenoblade Chronicles using British voice actors was such a breath of fresh air and gave the game some of its own identity. New blood is desperately needed in English VA.
@Jeronan Plenty of competitive games exist that don't offer any unique rewards, people play them because they find them fun. I don't think it's nessecary to lock content behind them if anything it's an admission that some people won't be interested in it so they need to dangle some carrots.
I think locking the Kalos starters behind a limited ranked battle event was too much. Mega evolution is a core part of this game and this pratically torpedoes any chance of using the Mega's of Greninja, Delphox and Chesnaught in a normal playthrough.
If you get grinding now you might be able to get Mega Greninja and use him in single player but if you wanted to use Mega Chesnaught then shelve the game for a few months and wait I guess.
They could have put cosmetics behind the ranked play like a special outfit or a shiny pokemon and that would have probably gone under most people's radar but might have been nice for the people who actually want to play the PvP.
I'm holding off Crossworlds as much as I love the series there doesn't seem to be much meat on the singleplayer side from what I can see, I'm not interested in PvP or Nicktoon crossovers.
Now if a certain character comes out I may reconsider... (although with no voice actor that would be rubbish.)
@Supadav03 You could have Game Freak make Pokemon for supercomputers and it would not create nice looking games, the frame rate might at least be decent though.
Its a combination of tight deadlines and a core development team that was used to making relatively simple sprite based games now trying to make open 3d worlds without getting the relevant expertise in for that change.
Probably should have had another studio make the big 3d games and Game freak could focus on more traditional pokemon adventures, kind of like how we had top down Zelda coexist with the third person games.
@kmtrain83 You probably already know but there is no combat and a bigger focus on farming and building a succesful business.
Also don't expect the same kind of narrative. There's no big save the world type plot with places to explore. Its much more slice of life and village drama (which has its charm, I do love a petty inter-village rivalry)
The art style of Story of Seasons isn't quite doing it for me though. The characters have to look nice to me which is why Stardew Valley has never had my interest despite being a maniac of this genre.
The anime and a lot of the dub material is very USA focused, other English speaking parts of the world pronounce things differently anyway so I never took much stock in how the anime said it, to-may-to to-mah-to
Why did they not go for a hand drawn style like that Disney Illusion Island or Rayman Legends? Ill admit I've never been a fan of that 3D classic Sonic model since it's debut in Generations
A city environment could be great, there is plenty of variety and some games have done incredible things with an urban setting like Yakuza/Like a Dragon.
What's more worrying is so far Luminose City looks very samey. It's based off Paris I'm sure there is more variety in Paris than the same typical Parisian street in different colours.
I'm interested in Lego Party, we love Jamboree but the mini game selection is way too small, it says it has a lot of mini games but a good portion are siloed off into the 'Bowser Kaboom Sqaud' and the other thing we don't bother with.
I hope the Lego boards are all based off the big themes. They've got a Ninjago board but I hope there is a Castle, Pirates, Space, City in there too!
The thing I'm most interested about this is that hopefully all the competitive PVP stuff can just all go to this game and the main series can just focus on being single player/co-op adventures without also having to worry about multiplayer metas and balance.
Far from a gurantee that Game Freak can make a good game but still maybe they can experiment more with Gen 10 if they arn't worried about PvP.
I played Galaxy on the Switch and throughly enjoyed it. For people who played Galaxy 2 are there any possible reasons the sequel would be difficult to port like it needed more precise motion controls or something?
I enjoyed the first one despite some issues with the writing having a really jarring clash of tone but the narrative or gameplay still doesn't match up to the first two Zero Escapes.
I gave the second one a chance and it was actually worse, felt like they doubled down on everything I din't enjoy about the first one. Lots of weirdly placed slapstick humour and bad action scenes.
This one looks to be more of the same, lots of reused assets (my partner thought the trailer was a re-release of Nirvana for Switch 2 lol) and a focus on one of my least liked characters from the first one (Iris)
I gave this series a chance due to the Zero Escape pedigree and I would still say the 1st game is good but I'm done. I'd love to see someone try to pick up the Zero Escape crown as they are some of my favourite games of all time.
I'd rather have Pokemon set in a tighter, smaller world with more detail than a large world but bland and barren. Game Freak clearly doesn't have the resources or time for massive 3d open worlds and I don't think they will budge on either of those limitors.
Power Stone being its arcade version makes this a pass, as much as I love the games I'm not playing an inferior version. I loved unlocking all the weapons.
Ill just keep waiting for Power Stone 3 then... along with Toy Commander 2... and Skies of Arcadia... sigh
@YunoboCo Nintendo has some issue with Toadsworth, he was going to appear in the Mario Movie but Nintendo requested he not be included so he was replaced with the generic 'Toad General' we see.
No idea what he did wrong but they still don't seem to like unique Toad's for some reason...
@cmlobue For a mega series like Pokemon it would take ahwhile for the poor quality to affect sales I think. It can coast off brand strength for a bit. It would take a few bad games before it sinks in to average customers.
Remakes peaked with Heartgold And Soulsilver, that was the last one to not only include everything from the originals (including Crystal) but add its own features to make it the definitive way to play Johto.
Gen 3 remakes were good but fall down in some areas.
And then Brilliant Diamond, Shining Pearl... 'Faithful remakes' as they said whenever asked why nothing from Platinum was included (still got that forced EXP share though!)
@FRBA94 I won't argue she's pretty bland at the moment but old Amy was bland but also obnoxious. Bowser is obsessed with Peach but he's the bad guy. Amy was supposed to be one of the good guys and apparently one of Sonic's friends yet she acted like a creep.
Amy really din't have much going beyond the obsession. Recently they have brought in tarot cards and the fortune telling side which she's always had but they never used.
I would like to see her get a redesign though, her apperance hasn't changed since Sonic Adventure and its one of the weaker designs imo.
@Porky So you want creepy obsessed girl who's only notable trait is 'Wants to marry Sonic'?
What is the point of that character exactly? Comic relief? I never found her antics in Sonic Adventure 1,2 and Heroes funny personally just an 'annoying fan' character
Shes been slowly moving away from being Sonic obsessed for ahwhile now. In Sonic 06 she was still interested in Sonic but was being more supportive rather than just chasing Sonic around.
I've never really liked Amy as a character who just chases Sonic around trying to get him to marry her so I'm quite happy to see her shift to being less crazy. Still not really a fan of her design and overall character. I've seen some great fan redesigns that bring back some of her classic elements from her Sonic CD design and make her look more hedgehog'y
The more I have played this the more I find the lack of minigames holding back my enjoyment. Mario Party Superstars has 53 Free for all minigames where Jamboree has 29! That is a huge difference and you really notice it. And no the 1v3 and 2v2 minigames don't make up for it either Superstars squarely beats Jamboree on those fronts aswell.
I really wish they had not diverted so much of their resources into these online only modes I think it has really affected the main party mode. I haven't even unlocked all the boards yet and I'm getting so much minigame repitition that I just did not get in Superstars.
Its such a shame, great boards, great character choice and then they dropped the ball with the small minigame selection.
Please just port games from Super Mario Party over to this one! There were some great minigames in there. Or a Minigame DLC but they never do post launch support for these games for some reason.
@Not_Soos Been playing this over the weekend and I think you're absolutely right I already feel like I've played the same free for all minigames so much and I still need to unlock two more boards.
I was a bit confused as I thought 'Isn't there over 100 minigames?' so I looked at the freeplay mode and realised so many games are for the Kooplathon/Kaboom sqaud mode that we cant even play on the sofa becuase they are single player or online only?!
To be clear Mario Party Superstars has 53 Free for all minigames where Jamboree has 29! That is a huge difference and you really notice it. And no the 1v3 and 2v2 minigames don't make up for it either Superstars squarely beats Jamboree on that front.
I think its a pretty major drawback, I love the variety of boards and big character roster but they dropped the ball on the minigames.
I wish so much if some games from Super Mario Party could be ported over, the boards were not great but I loved the minigames! We could have the best of both games. But they don't do post launch support for these games even though they would be perfect for it. I'd buy a minigame DLC pack in a heartbeat.
Something I like about Pokemon Generations 1-5 is they based themselves off quite small real world areas as different parts of Japan in 1-4 and the Manhatten area for Gen 5.
Gen 6, 8 and 9 tried to represent the entire countries of France, Britain and Spain in single games which I think they suffered for. You could have easily made a Pokemon region based off London and the Home counties in a similar vein to how Kanto is based off the Tokyo area.
Wait does this game have gacha/gambling mechanics? I've steered clear of it like a bad smell but I thought it was just overpriced skins and grindy unlocks to make you spend real money.
If there is a random chance element that is even worse.
are the 8 player/20 player modes playable offline with local friend and CPU? Online only is a downer as I don't like paying for content I'm never going to use. I don't play online multiplayer at all and certainly not for a party game!
@BlueBCA Yeah I'd say thats a fair observation, PBB only looks fun when the player is skilled whereas the best platformers feel fun just running and jumping with basic moves. It was impressive seeing what other players could do with the moveset.
I think you're right on the play testing, as an indie company they won't be able to play test on the scale of a bigger company but it's still important to get a broad range of players. I imagine the developers are all deft hands when it comes to platformers but that skill level won't be common among average players.
I really liked the look of it at first but the more I saw the more it felt like a platformer for people who speedrun Mario 64 and get every inch of utility from the characters moveset and not really for casual play. My partner loves a colourful platformer too but after seeing gameplay addmitted it looks a bit too technical for her.
That's cool and I respect them making the game they want to make but I always think thats a difficult niche to thrive in as the players you are going for are already highly invested in 'their' games so you need to really be exceptional to have those players get into your game rather than go back to the one's they always play.
A gameplay loop similar to something like Slime Rancher where you go into the wilds to collect materials, animals, chaos drives and then go back to develop your Chao Garden could so easily work...
If they don't want to make it fine but don't claim it somehow would not function, of course Adventure 1 & 2's Chao garden was tied to the main game but you could change that.
Reuse the character creator from Sonic Forces (we know how much you love reusing assets!) and your character moves to 'Chao Island' filled with mysteries and wilderness where you can go about exploring the island and building a garden with Chao! You could include some light platforming and combat elements, maybe chao can help out, maybe Eggman has some Mecha Chao to defeat or something.
Sooo no new single player/adventure stages? I know theres a good amount already but I don't think Ill be racing back to the game next year for a new character and one new multiplayer stage.
@Switch_Pro You can't take away too much from that when 'unique and attractive characters' is a very broad catagory. There are many forms of attractiveness and 'unique' is going to mean a lot of different things.
An 'Attractive' character could be litteraly any character design someone finds appealing in one way or another its not just limited to sexual attractiveness.
For me its all about variety I get bored of seeing the same thing. There is nothing wrong with a female character who is tall, slim with a large bust but when every female character looks like that it gets dull and tiresome.
To be fair to Capcom they have done quite well in that regard Street Fighter 6's cast is pretty varied in apperances.
@Cronodoug The option was called 'Unique and attractive characters' not just attractive. And the word attractive does not just relate to characters people find romantically attractive. Where I'm from at least attractive is used in all kinds of ways like 'That flower display is attractive'
When you view it like that yes people like good character design especially in the kind of games Capcom makes where characters are the central element like fighting games. It does not just relate to 'sexy' characters.
I've wondered if it could work if they split off the Chao garden into its own spin off game. Something like Viva Pinata or Slime Rancher but with Chao.
Reuse the Sonic Forces character creator and then go live on 'Chao Island' explore the island and raise different Chao to unlock new areas find new fruit. Sonic & friends show up with their own Chao you can compete against in the races and sumo.
I think people might go for something like that I certainly would.
@Anachronism I've clearly played way too much Genshin because after reading your comment I thought "Nah can't be Genshin the female character outfit doesn't have weirdly exposed armpits and the male character isn't wearing shorts"

Sooo no new single player/adventure stages? I know theres a good amount already but I don't think Ill be racing back to the game next year for a new character and one new multiplayer stage.
I'd be much more interested in course packs.
Re: Random: The New Denpa Men Is Getting Roasted For Its Translation Issues
Honestly I'd love a 'Book of Mario' version thats intentionally badly translated just to have more lines like this.
Re: 'Super Mario Party Jamboree' Rolls Onto Switch This October
Looks great but I hope that 'Koopathon' mode is not online only I want to play it locally with friends and AI.
Re: Capcom's 'Super Elections' Reveals Fan Favourite Characters, Games And More
@Switch_Pro You can't take away too much from that when 'unique and attractive characters' is a very broad catagory.
Re: Capcom's 'Super Elections' Reveals Fan Favourite Characters, Games And More
@Cronodoug The option was called 'Unique and attractive characters' not just attractive.
Re: Sonic Team Open To More Characters From Comic Series Appearing In Games
Yes... if it makes sense to include them. If they ever have the courage to attempt an RPG again that would be a wonderful opportunity.
Re: Sonic Team On Remasters: "If There's A Title People Like, We'll Think About It"
@Kaiserthrkittyslave
I had a similar experience I never managed to make a super chao but I loved all the ways they could transform!
Re: Sonic Team On Remasters: "If There's A Title People Like, We'll Think About It"
@Kaiserthrkittyslave
Re: Sonic Team On Remasters: "If There's A Title People Like, We'll Think About It"
We'll see how Generations go and then get back to you. Segas recent history with remasters is not great.
Re: Skies Of Arcadia-Inspired JRPG 'Sky Oceans: Wings For Hire' Lands New Gameplay Trailer
Love Skies of Arcadia and I wish this game all the best but that art style for the characters and ships is just not for me sorry.
Re: Tomb Raider: The Legend Of Lara Croft Netflix Animated Series Locks In October Release
@Jireland92
Since the reboot trilogy I think. The first one came out during the peak of The Hunger Games so bow wielding heroines was in-fashion is my guess.
I agree the dual pistols should come back.
Re: Rune Factory's New Spin-Off 'Project Dragon' Introduces The Protagonists
@Anachronism I've clearly played way too much Genshin because after reading your comment I thought "Nah can't be Genshin the female character outfit doesn't have weirdly exposed armpits and the male character isn't wearing shorts"
Re: Talking Point: What Other LEGO Zelda Sets Would You Like To See After The Deku Tree?
Just a lil Ganondorf please. Could use those longer legs they used for the Dr Eggman Lego figure
